June 2019 update.

I don't know why I ever step away from SP, but I'm back again and couldn't be happier.

When I'm not working, I'm fishing or golfing with my best friend - my husband. I have some health challenges that losing weight would improve, plus I want to get in better shape to enjoy my sports more and, hopefully, improve at them. My other passion is rescuing animals.

Down 108 lbs from top weight. All my photos are at least 40+ pounds ago. Definitely need to post some new photos on my SparkPage that show my trimmer self. :)

Fitness Minutes: 11,926

My Goals:
My top weight was 314 lbs. It's been a long journey, but I haven't always focused on my goals. I primarily want to improve my fitness - strength, flexibility, stamina and get to a weight my doctor recommends as healthy for me. To get off BP meds and hurt less. I was diagnosed late in life with scoliosis. Have several other "iosis" of the back, as well. I'm reading a fantastic book called "Younger Next Year for Women" by Chris Crowley and Henry S. Lodge, M.D. It has radicalized my thinking about my sunset years and put more pep in my step and urgency in the journey.

My Program:
My diet is intuitive eating. Eating only when I am hungry and then eating what I am hungry for and stopping as soon as I am full. This has been the mainstay of my program and works best for me. I don't label food good or bad. It's forward or backward. Will this food help me go forward in my health goals, or will it make me go backward? Puts less pressure and guilt on myself than giving attributes to food, such as good or bad. When I apply the forward and backward philosophy, more often than not, I choose forward. A strange phenomena has occurred, too. I now truly crave more of the "forward" food. I'm a kidney cancer survivor and diabetic (controlled), so KETO and other high-protein diets are out of the question for me.

Personal Information:
My SP handle is Angling4More, but you can call me Donna G. I am originally from Texas, but have been in Arkansas since 1987. My husband is my best friend. We golf and fish together on weekends. Otherwise we huddle at home with a large brood of rescued felines. I rescue stray cats in the neighborhood and try to improve their lives. DH and I are both still working. Wish we could retire. I'm eligible for Medicare next year (he's 5 years younger). Unfortunately, DH was laid off several years ago and never found another job in his career field, so he's had to take a low-paying gig. We haven't been the best stewards of our finances either. We're working at reducing debt and increasing savings, however, we've started late and have a big hill to climb. Doing our best and that's better than nothing.

Other Information:
I read "Diabesity - The Obesity-Diabetes Epidemic that Threatens America - and What We Must Do to Stop It" by past president of the American Diabetes Association, Francine R. Kaufman, M.D. Powerful stuff. Wish it had been around before I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes.
