I am in control of my destiny.
I am 56 and am still hanging in there trying to stay healthy. Most days are completely pain free now. After years of struggling with hip and back pain I finally learned what causes it and what keeps it away. Hope to remain feeling good for years to come.

My History Here:
I first joined Sparkpeople in the Summer of 2010. I still have the Class of Team on my profile to remind me. These days I'm taking a different approach to SP. It seems to be working as I have no intention of giving up and quitting.
Instead I have the intention of changing the way I've been living my life for the better. I can either do that or continue to struggle to walk and be in constant pain for the rest of my life.
I love my dog and my cats who get my attention first thing every morning. Then its meditation time. Getting my head on straight so I can face the day.
I enjoy cooking and try to make food as healthy as possible that will still have a taste. lol
I walk my big dog most mornings and exercise with my husband most evenings. We walk or play tennis or light weights. We have a little "gym" room I converted to get all the exercise equipment spread throughout the house into one location.
I do my yoga and hip therapy in here along with other stuff like boxing. We have a speed bag but I have been wanting a heavy bag. I like to shoot hoops for fun (when the truck isn't in the way) and I can still make baskets. . . when Bella isn't on defense that is.

My Goals:
My long term goal is to shed the 50 unwanted pounds I have accumulated. My ultimate goal is to take an after picture. I have umpteen before pictures I've taken over the years, never to have an after.
My Program:
My plan now consists of really watching what I put in my mouth and no making any excuses when it comes to exercising. I know that moving is what keeps me moving without pain. I started doing yoga and Qigong as well as hip therapy exercise and weights, and walking/running for my Astros team challenge. I also still try too stay strong enough to walk my dog Bella. She's a big girl and very strong for her age, now almost 10! She and I have some of the same ailments with hip problems. She has been doing miraculously good lately. I haven't had to give her pain meds or even CBD oil for awhile.
Personal Information:
I've struggled and tried to get back in shape for many years. I had real success about 7-8 years ago with the Bill Phillip's program which is why I keep coming back to it. I've added the Right Light back into my nutrition plan. After a period of trying to find the right eating plan, I am going to get back to what I know wrks for me. My struggles come from just giving up one day for no clear reason. I think with meditation I have been able to stick with a mostly healthy lifestyle even if the scale doesn't budge. I no longr let that number on that scale define who I am. I know who I am and what my purpose in this life is now. It has made an enormous impact on how I view the outside world as well as my own life.
Other Information:
Before I wanted to get in shape to look good and well, now I'm older and sure I want to look better and have my clothes fit better an wear smaller sizes but these days my priority is managing my pain. I suffered for years with hip pain, back pain and sciatica. There used to never be a day when I didn't have some pain somewhere. Now I learned the effects of some foods on my body. Some stuff causes inflammation and that causes pain.
If I mess up and eat the wrong stuff I will definitely feel it. I also learned how to fix my bad hips myself without surgery. I only need to follow some therapy protocols. I will get lazy and stop doing these at times thinking "I'm cured" but it will come back and I have to keep it up. For me the decisions I make mean whether or not I will be suffering so I try to choose wisely. My back pain is still being managed mostly with the cobra back stretch and I learned a good lessonn about not laying around and resting because of the pain. That will make my back
