Hi! I'm Alyson from Houston, TX. I'm 32 and have been married to a wonderful man for last 11 years. We do not have kids yet bc i need to get healthy first. I have been putting off losing weight for a long time. I don't think i've ever really even seriously tried losing weight, ever. Sad, I know. I've been overweight all my life. We want to start trying for a kid in the Spring 2010 so figured i better hurry up and lose the weight now so i can have the energy to play with my baby when i have one. I don't want my kid being the "fat kid" like i was all through school. I need to learn how to eat healthy now so i can pass good eating habits on to my child. I am sick of feeling guilty about what i eat all the time. When i started having a few health issues i looked up what could be done to fix them and losing weight was one cure for everything. So here I am. My family has a history of heart disease and diabetes. I really don't want diabetes because i like cake too much. A couple of other reasons to lose weight is i would really like to ride a roller coaster again one day, go to a water park and not feel so self concious, and fit comfortably into an airplane and baseball park seat. So, as you can see I have a lot of good reasons to do this now and a lot to lose. Wish me Luck!

2008 Update: I joined SP in Jan of last year. And no, it was not a New Year resolution of mine to lose weight. I just had gotten to the point where i had zero energy and did not want to get out of bed. So, i knew it was time to do something. I had heard about SP in an article in People magazine about 3 women who lost 300 lbs together but lived all across the US. I knew i needed that kind of support. I sure found it here. I ended up losing a total of 35 lbs last year until i started having some weird issues with my feet and legs. I'm still working on trying to get those figured out but the Dr. said it was ok to keep working out. (When i went to the Dr. my Bp was the best it has ever been and my blood sugar is excellant! That was one of my goals from last year, lower those numbers and boy did i do it!) So I think i may have just plain worn out my walking shoes and they started to affect my back and feet. It's all very strange. Good news is, i have way more energy this Jan. than i did last Jan. and am still working toward reaching my goals. My husband and i are planning on starting to try and have a kid after our 10 year anniversary April 24th. So before then i would really like to lose another 30 lbs and get down to around 245. If i lose 2 lbs a week i can do it. I've found that setting a very small goal is way better than trying to just say "Well, I need to lose 30 lbs." I also went back to keeping my food and exercise log. That really helped me last year. I know i can do this bc now i really want to. Thanks everyone for all the support i have received so far. Could not have gotten this far without y'all!

2009 update
I ended up injuring my back last year pretty bad. I have a bulged disc with a tiny tear in it that is pressing on a nerve. The Dr. said it could take up to two years to heal completely. This Sept. will be one year. I had a cortisone shot in July that has really helped get me back to almost normal. I still have some pain in my back now and then and a little tingling but not as bad as before. I think the cause of the injury was jogging/running and being so heavy. My weight put too much pressure on my disc causing it to compress and bulge out. I 'm pretty sure this is the cause bc thinking back i started feeling weird vibrating feelings in my right leg long before my lower left leg went numb. It would feel like i had my cell phone on vibrate in my pocket. I remember taking it out to look and see if someone was calling me. It was very weird and i didn't have a clue what the deal was. So now that i am more informed and feeling better, i have gone back to either no or low impact workouts. I know i have to get this weight off so my back can heal up. I gained back 20 lbs of the 35 i lost last year. It's been hard to get back on track and stay there but i can do this!

2010 update:
I started working out again in Dec. 09 and ended up injuring myself again. I can't win. Right now my left arm and hand is numb. I've had my left arm go numb but not my hand. It went away on it's own before so i'm really hoping it will this time as well. I think it was caused from too many dumbbell reps. I seriously need to learn how to limit myself and not overdo things. I am still working out on the elliptical a little bit 3 times a week just to stay in shape. I did not gain anymore weight Thank goodness. I'm working on trying to lose weight by just watching what i eat. If my husband can do it, so can i dang it! We stay away from fast food and processed foods. My weakness is sweets so i'm thinking if i just cut those out i should be able to drop some more pounds this year. And hopefully get the feeling back in my arm and hand. Can't really afford another cortisone shot right now. I don't want one either. Not much fun. I don't understand why those pro athletes take steriods on purpose. They really suck! And make you feel crappy. Oh well, i'm just going to keep praying for good healt and trying to lose this weight. I'm in a Biggest Loser challenge with some Facebook buddies so that should help keep me motivated. And i am going to try and stay active on here. That seems to help a lot too! My Goals:
I would like to get back down to the size i was when i got married 9 years ago or what i was in high school. Funny thing is i don't remember exactly what size that was! So i just want to look like i did then i guess. :) My ultimate goal is to lose up to 155 lbs. My ideal weight would be around 150. I would probably be fine with anything between 150-170 though. I'm 5'5.

My Program:
1. Keep a food and exercise log
2. Do some form of exercise at least 15min 3 days a week
3. Drink lots of water
4. No soda
5. Eat my fruits and veggies everyday
6. Strength train 2 days a week.

Personal Information:
We have lived here in Houston, TX about 9 years now. Don't have any kids yet, but we do have two beautiful boxers we treat like kids. Our family lives in Palestine, TX where they have a winery we help out with when we go visit.

Other Information:
I love reading, scrapbooking, quilting, music, traveling, and most of all, photography! We have a boat we love to take out as often as possible.

    Hey girly. How are you doing? It's been a while since I've heard from you. How's the diet going? I've been pretty exhausted and just really tired of trying. I think I just need a break for a little while. The diet I'm doing is just too hard. There's too much cooking and measuring and watching the clock for my next meal. I don't have the time nor the patience for it. But that doesn't mean that I'm going crazy. I'm just going to be less restrictive and enjoy my food a little more. I'm still exercising in the mornings or I will walk around the mall during my lunch hour. I've also decided to give the scale a break too. If I weigh everyday (which I usually do) I get very discouraged when I don't lose. So I'm just going to stick to a healthy lifestyle and cut back on my food portions and keep exercing and drinking my water. I'm giving up on the idea that it can a fast and furious weight loss. I gotta do this for me and my family.

    Did you get any bad weather last week? We were actually closed on Friday be/c apparently East Texas doesn't know what to do when it snows for a couple of seconds. :) But I'm not really complaining since I got a 3 day weekend.

    Anyway, I hope your week is going good.

    Hey Aly! I'm so glad to see that you are back on track. I saw your fb post about the dogs walking you! LOL. Last week was not so good for me. I was so busy with trying to catch up at work and then being out of town for 2 days with Nick's surgery. I didn't even really try to be honest. But now I'm kicking myself for's just another week wasted. I want to lose 20 lbs by February 20th but that goal seems to be slipping far away. But I'm back on track this morning at least. I've already drank 36 oz of water and had my applesauce oatmeal and scrambled eggs for my breakfast and I had a grapefruit for my morning snack. I just gotta keep myself focused.

    How was your weekend? Did you do anything exciting? Y'all are always doing something fun. I wish we lived closer so we could come down more often. Nick has to go back for a check up in a couple of weeks so maybe we can get together for dinner or something. But I know you work during the week and it's hard. We will still plan something soon! Good luck and stay focused!
