"I measure myself by the life I lead, not by the size I wear"
This year I will NOT make a New Year's Resolution to lose weight. I am spending my energy on living my life. I am not wasting my money on weight-loss gimmicks or looking for the latest fad diet. I know now that DIETS DO NOT WORK. At one time I lost over 70 lbs and then regained it and more. I spent so much of my time obsessing over what I was eating and my exercise routine. I know now that DIETS DO NOT WORK. At one time I lost over 70 lbs and then regained it and more. I spent so much of my time obsessing over what I was eating and my exercise routine. Did I find happiness at the end of my weight loss success? No. I struggled to even maintain and I felt guilt and shame over not being able to. Our bodies are designed to survive. When we restrict our food our body thinks we are going into starvation mode and wants to put the weight back on. This is why we become so pre-occupied with food when dieting.
I have spent the last couple of years resetting myself. I no longer restrict or binge eat. No food is forbidden. I do not feel deprived or even obsessed with food in anyway. I learned to become an intuitive eater. I listen to my body and now I eat when I am hungry and I stop eating when I am full (most of the time). I am not sure in the past I even knew what it felt like to be full. I have learned to read my body's cues.
I believe that health is not about size. This year I am working on improving my health behaviors. I want to add in more healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. I also want to become more fit by incorporating joyful movement.
