Spark Spotlight: Carolyn (CESUMMERFORD)

By , SparkPeople Blogger
At SparkPeople, we love helping people accomplish big goals—but we believe it's equally important to celebrate the small successes along the way. Each week in the Spark Spotlight, we'll check in with a featured member about his or her proudest moments, biggest challenges and advice for others on living, thinking and feeling healthier. We hope these quick snapshots will help motivate you to keep moving steadily toward your own goals, week by week.

This Week's Spotlight: Carolyn (CESUMMERFORD)
Age: 63
Location: Glennville, Georgia

Small Success of the Week

Carolyn recently shared in the Community Goal Feed that she can now fit into a size XL shirt (down from a 3XL), and she's wearing a size 20 pant (down from a size 28)!

What's your overall goal?

My overall goal is to be healthy and able to participate with my grandkids' activities.

How is SparkPeople helping you get there?

SparkPeople has been a guiding force in my weight loss once my mind was made up. It has helped me by guiding my food intake, motivating me not to give up and to finally exercise. SparkPeople has also helped with reminding me why I am on this journey.

What's your biggest challenge right now?

My biggest challenge right now is to not be jealous of the foods that aren't the healthiest choices, [and] remember it's about moderation, not about deprivation.

What advice do you have for someone who just joined SparkPeople today?

My advice to someone who has just joined SparkPeople is to be committed to using the site and to get involved. It can be overwhelming at first—especially if you are not computer proficient—but explore the entire website and listen to the coaching.

Donate those clothes that are too large now, so someone else can make use of them. You are NOT going to be wearing them again. Report

I first wore a size 2xx, lost weight over a two year span, down to sizes L (pants) and M(shirts). Unfortunately, I gained that weight all back up to 210 pounds from 179 lbs., and I was just miserable. So I've gone back on Sparkpeople, and for me, it's cardio dance workouts that get my weight down the easiest, and these are fun workouts. I don't stick too long to a repetitive, lengthy workout. Short dance workouts of about 20 minutes three times a week get my weight down, and fast. Report
