Love both of those Griffinsong. I am going to use the Deck Intro Spread for the Bohemian Cat Deck this weekend.

I like the sounds of the Personal Compass spread. I'm more like GRIFFINSONG and read mostly for myself. To keep it short and sweet, especially since I do a daily draw, I normally use a 3 card spread and my 3 cards fluctuate although I've been with one for a quite a while --- Card #1: what do I need to work on now; Card #2: what tools to I have; Card #3: results. For me it helps to know what I need to work on today and what my tools that I have to work with.

The Personal Compass spread looks very interesting, IYA. I think that I will try this for myself as I am currently feeling rather rudderless.

Every day, in every way, I'm just getting better and better!

I most often use tarot for myself. As such, I find that a simple one card draw, or a three or four card draw are my favorites. People will typically choose three cards for body, mind, and spirit. I lay them out in a row, and often draw a fourth card to lay beneath them for heart. So it looks like this ....

body mind spirit

heart

Your own personal compass

Everyone needs a compass

Something that gives their lives direction…or if it doesn’t do that then at least lets them know in which direction they’re heading, and where to go next.
A pretty common quest I think, but I struggled to find a spread that answered it just right.

There are no positions we’ve not come across before in other spreads, and it starts off rather similar to the Celtic Cross… but I found it uniquely helpful in answering this issue.

7 and 8

6 (three cards here)

4 1 and 2 (two crosses one) 5

3
*******
Tarot personal compass spread:

1. You at this moment

2. ‘Crossing card’: something which you are carrying at this time

3. ‘Basis’: what has brought you here

4. Something which is leaving your life

5. Something which is coming into your life

6 Resources you can call upon in moving forward (x 3 cards)

7. A word of advice…

8. A purpose or direction in which to head
*****
It’s based on the importance of examining the present in order to find possible ‘direction’; the querent (or you) right now and the energies surrounding them (or you).

I’m in the habit at the moment of beginning most readings with the small cross, and that felt appropriate here, along with the ever-useful ‘basis’ card, and cards for energies moving into and out of the querent’s (or your life).

After card 4 or 5 there’s space to pause and ‘sum up’ the reading so far with a picture of where the querent is at.

Then there’s the resources part, cards 6, 7 and 8, which I really like. I’d firstly tried labelling these for mental, emotional, physical resources, but decided in the end to simply let them be what they were without those added constraints. Again, after drawing these cards, I took a moment to sum up the picture there – a really positive little package for the querent (or you).

Finally, there’s that handy little ‘word of advice’ card, and finally a ‘direction’, answering the original question, but bringing in everything we’ve learned along the way.
These last two cards provide a course of action for the querent (or you) which can be linked directly to the resources.

A Most Excellent and Sensible Spread--Complete With Moving Parts

Because card 1 represents you, your energy will be present in all three lines. It influences and is influenced by the other cards. By moving it down the column, you can see the relationships more clearly, tarot, is after all, a visual art.

1

2 3

4 5

6 7

Positions:

1--You

2--Something from the past that influences the current situation.

3--Other important information needed to understand the situation.

4--A description of the present situation.

5--The main obstacle, problem, or challenge.

6--The immediate future.

7--The probable outcome.

The Difference Engine Spread

This spread creates a magical space for exploring ways in which you can change the outcome forecast in a previous reading using another spread. Keep the card from the outcome position in your previous reading separate from the deck and place it in position *. Positions 1, 2, 3, and 4 represent four different ways to alter the original outcome.

1

4 * 2

3

The Process to using the spread properly is:

1. Place the outcome card from you previous reading in the center of your reading space (*represents outcome card from previous reading).

2. Look at the number on the card. If it is a double digit number, reduce it by adding the digits together until you get a number between 1 and 9 (example XII The Hanged Man or 12 add 1+2+ 3) If you have the Fool pull another card and use its number; return the card to the deck. For Court Cards:

Pages use 11 = 2
Knights use 12 = 3
Queens use 13 = 4
Kings use 14 = 5

3. Using the number arrived at in Step 2, deal that numbers of cards FACE-DOWN in positions 1 through 4. Deal as if you were dealing for a card game. Example: If you number is 3, positions 1-4 will each have a pile of 3 cards.

4. After the correct number of cards has been dealt, then lay one additional card FACE-UP on top of the stack in each position.

5. Look at the face-up cards, These are the possible way the original outcome can be influenced or changed. Consider each card carefully. Read it in conjunction with the original outcome. How will the cards affect each other? How will their energies interplay? If you blend them together, what would you get? That is what you are deciding right now...what new element are you adding to the alchemical mix of the future?

6. Select one and only one pile. The the other piles and put all the cards back in the deck without looking at what cards were underneath.

7. Using the original outcome card and cards from the pile selected, lay them out like this

* ^ (* = original outcome card; ^ = face up card from selected pile)

1 2 3 4

Put the cards from the pile in a row underneath cards * ^.

Cards * and ^ are read as you new outcome.

The cards underneath are the steps you can take in order to create this new outcome. These cards represent energy and actions. Change the order of the or move them into different configurations until you have revealed the plan that you will follow.

GOODBYEXL- plan on adding the deck to my collection very shortly!!!

I don't use a certain spread for each reading. From talking with the Cosmic Seeker prior to the reading, I usually design a spread/layout just for that reading.

When reading online I use adaptable spreads: Most Excellent and Sensible Spread followed by the The Difference Engine Spread, which uses the final outcome card of the Most Excellent and Sensible Spread, which can alter the original outcome. These Spreads work the best with the Steampunk Tarot Deck.
