I was natural before and for some odd reason felt that I like my hair relaxed. I went back to relaxers for 2 years trying to convince myself I liked it. Well, what I love is my crazy curls and on a wash day I felt them growing back and was like, I'm done. I let my hubby buzz my head later that day after it was dry. I realized it was doing nothing for my hair, no matter how well cared for it was. My relaxed hair was never going to compare to my natural hair.

I was always natural. It's when did I decide to stop killing my hair and allowing the chemicals to seep into my body via my skin? Somewhere around 1975.

Being natural is the best way to go in my book. I wish I was natural a lot sooner as well. I am here now and I am very happy with my hair journey thus far.

Thanks for sharing Divas

Chemicals are no good for your health. I have worn a short afro for years, until the Jerry Curl, LOL. emoticon Then went back to the afro, now I have locks. My hair is healthier

Honestly, I wear a crown, a NATURAL CROWN

I decided to go natural because I wanted healthy, thick, and long hair. I was sick a lot, taking lots of medications, had a perm, and underwent major surgery.

My hair was thinning and lifeless with the perm with much breakage. Making the decision to go natural was a no brainer after that.

Now my hair is thick and full and healthy. It is growing and I have minimal breakage. I love my natural hair.

I would encourage others to take the time to learn as much as possible about being natural, be patient, eat healthy, exercise, drink lots of water and maintain clean hair while using natural products.

Around my junior year of high school, I started seeing more pictures of locs on the internet and thought they were sooooo beautiful. I wanted them so badly, but my mother said no. So, I stopped taking proper care of my hair (which was relaxed at the time), until my mom had enough and said I needed to something with it and she didn't care what it was. The next day, I made an appointment, chopped off my hair & started my baby locs.

Going natural can be a difficult and a challenging transition. I swear there is a confused ugly stage you go through while the relaxer eases its way out and the natural texture comes in. The difficulty is when you are trying to balance a natural hair style new to you and others in while trying your best to look good socially and not mention professionally.

However when you chop it all off....great bone structure and a cute face...well then you get to skip the ugly stage all together. That means you can go from cute to fabulous natural hair in no time

I let my relaxer just fade out and double twisted and never looked back. I wanted a style that was my own and predictable. It's easy and I have my mom do it for me every two weeks.

I realized that perming my hair was never a conscientious decision for me. My mother had been perming my hair since i was 4yrs old. By 16 it was just habit. A couple years ago I began to wonder why I bothered. It seemed more and more like a stupid decision for myself. I tried transitioning for 8 months but the two textures was difficult and i permed my hair. Felt upset a couple weeks later so I plunged into the natural pool and cut my hair down to a half inch.

If I decide that I want straight hair, then I will simply use a flat iron.

I simply prefer the way my hair looks when I'm rockin a two strand twist out than how it looked when it was relaxed.

Yeah, this is my second time "going natural"...I got frustrated the first time and got a relaxer as well...LOL...I still don't plan to do a big chop so I am wearing protective styles...right now, I have Seneglease Twists...just got them and plan to wear them until Dec...will think of another style then...

I went natural because I was tired of paying alot of money to get my hair done plus sitting in a salon for hours. I usually wear wash and go hairstyles now. Much cheaper and quicker! I'm very happy with the results. The first time I tried going natural, I tried growing the relaxer out. After a few months, I became frustrated and ended up relaxing my hair again. The second time trying to go natural, it was better because I just went ahead and did the big chop. Been natural 3+ years!

I was going to have surgery (2007) and knew I wasn't going to be in the mood to do my hair everyday. I decided to get braids and loved it. I then went to two strand twists and haven't looked back since. emoticon

I'm currently transitioning...last perm was in June 2012...I am currently wearing protective styles and learning things...I have no desire to do a big chop...I am happy that I have been patient enough to go get a relaxer...just trying to enjoy the process...the only advice that I would give is to be patient and know that your hair doesn't/won't/can't react or respond the way that another naturals would...it's about finding what works best for you!

What was the main reason you decided natural was the way to go?
Are you happy with your results?
Any advice for someone thinking of going natural?
