Not spending as much this year , baking for the neighbors and they really like that.
The kids are all getting $, everyone is so hard to buy for , because they really have everything they need , and so do we.
We are going Christmas Caroling and getting back to some traditional things.

I want to be an outrageous old woman who never gets called and old LADY.

Definitely will be spending less this year and what we do for gifts will be very practical. Both DDs are in grad school and both said they need money to help pay their heat bills and buy books. Easy shopping for them!! DH and I will only exchange small gifts because we have to do some bathroom remodeling in our house later. Old houses with old plumbing get expensive!! My friends and I all decided that we have way too much "stuff" in our houses and will not exchange gifts any more for Christmas. We will all donate to our food pantry and family center instead. Wierd that we were all thinking the same thing and finally started talking about it last week on the spur of the moment during one of our coffee gabfests. Still have to buy the family name exchange gifts and gifts for my MIL. Everyone has agreed to make those gifts inexpensive too because one BIL is losing his job at the end of the year and one nephew already lost his...and he has a 3-year old and new baby on the way. We're all throwing in some money for a big grocery shopping spree for them. DH buys a few gifts for coworkers and I buy a couple but they are small gifts. So...yes, we will be spending lots less for Christmas this year.

We are trying to save as much as possible on Christmas this year. I've been looking at sales flyers and found some good deals so far! My husbands family draws names and puts a $50 limit on each person, but with two of us and two names a piece thats $200 just on 4 people! WAAAY to much for us! SO, I'm getting everyone smaller things and trying to spend half that! Its tough and I should have started a long time ago, but still, we are making it work!

Even though we will be giving the kids less, we spent the same if not more considering they will be receiving a Wii.

Yes, I'll be spending less and spending on more practical things. We help both adult daughters throughout the year and now one daughter needs her brakes fixed. I've been collecting fun small things during the past year. Maizey

besides the regular church stuff

On Christmas Eve --- after our yearly Bell Ringing shift --- when it is just Me, Hubby & the kids --- we always read the Christmas story & add the baby to the Nativity scene

and we also have a birthday cake for Jesus during dinner

Even though my day care is not "Christian based" I make a birthday cake for our Christmas party and we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus. I also make a Birthday cake for the family for Christmas day and call that MY birthday cake, too, as my birthday is 12/28. And of course there are always church services to attend.

Christmas is far too comercialized. If only less emphasis would be placed on the gifts and more on THE GIFT that was given 2000 years ago. That's what it is all about.

So what do you do to keep Christ in Christmas??

(Maybe I should've made that a separate thread?)

Yes, I would like to say that we will spend less this year and if it was up to me we would, but then hubby gets going and somehow it always ends up being the same or more than previous years.

We have decided that this year we are going to approach a few of the people we exchange with about not doing it in the future. That will help a lot! Don't want to be a scooge though!

Yes--I am sure I will be spending less this year. I just have to finish the one gift I am making and buy a few small items and I am finished.

I'm definately cutting back --- I always overspend --- & hubby & I both have very large families

for our extended fmailies we decided this year that we too would exchange names instead of buying for all the adults like we usually do --- my family ALL comes here on Christmas day --- and his family all lives out of state --- so besides the cost of the gifts --- S&H is ridiculous!!!

"opening day" which is what Christmas had become in our family --- will once again return to a more traditional & family oriented time --- instead of the 5 hour long gift opening marathon of the past few years

There are usually around 23 adults & 11 kids here on Christmas --- and my family insists on having each gift opened one at a time & my SIL takes a pic of EVERY ONE OF THEM!!!

It is crazy!!! It gets so crowded that you literally can't walk through my little house --- the kids get cranky --- the guys get impatient --- It is awful!!!

so now I am working on a plan to make it less about the gifts --- more about the family --- and a LOT less stressful

Any ideas???

I'll spend every penny I budgeted! Thanks to Dave Ramsey and Financial Peace University, I'm not going to feel guilty about it at all.

(We're not big spenders anyway, so it's very freeing to know that I can spend a little more because we planned for it.)

This year we got a Wii for me, my husband, and my daughter. That's 3 people down in one shot. emoticon

Yes and No

Yes less on outside of our immediate family,

but NO to our kids. They will get the same spent on them. Both our girls got married last year. So now they have to share that with their hubby's.

My hubby and I are not exchanging. (or so he says) we weren't exchanging for our 30th anniversary in November either. But I got a TIVO and a new TV.

So we will see.

I still will give to the same charities as I think kids will need it more than ever.

I wanted to cut down on decorations (for the light bill reasons) and hubby says NO the kids in Town wait for our house to be lit, and will not take that away from them.

Our kids also can't wait. There 27 and 24.

We are like the Griswalds??? (vacation movie)

Wendy

My Goal is see every state in the US. Currently at 44.

I would love to lose 70 lbs. but right now 10 would be GREAT!!!!!

Yes, I will definitely be spending less on Christmas this year! Seems like everything is breaking down this time of year...had lots of medical bills, my car broke down, and yesterday my garage door spring broke and cost $200 to fix! So, there's no spending money this year for the holidays. Bummer, it's usually my favorite time of year, and I usually really enjoy Christmas shopping... emoticon

Yes, with all the money we have spent putting my grandson through college because his parents won't help the money is tight. My family and friends understand.

I make a lot of home made gifts, so I start Christmas in Feb so that I am done by December.

I have already overspent for my kids...we bought them one of those huge playsets with the slide, club house, and room for 3 swings. Then there is all the stocking stuffer stuff and "santa" hasn't even gotten his request yet! As they are getting older, their tastes are getting more expensive...my 6 year old wants a Nintendo DS and some games, and my 3 year old wants an armadillo (thanks a lot Diego)!

Make something beautiful everyday!

Yes I will be spending less this year. My family and I decided to do a secret name exchange. So instead of shopping for 6 people I only have 1. Of course the 2 kids were not included in the exchange so they will get tons of presents from everyone.

I think I would be spending less, but I seem to always go over with my daughter anyways.

I've been picking up gifts when I see clearance on items I know she wants.

Just throwing this qustion out there.

Will you be spending less for Christmas?
And have you started shopping?

I'm pretty sure we will be spending less. We already made an agreement with our parents. No presents! Just some quality time! Presents for kids only. I love that rule anyway.

I have a few gift card bought for my aerobic instructor. But that's it.

How about you?
