Well, I was supposed to start week 2 yesterday...but I had the opportunity to go hiking instead, so I did. Giving the legs a chance to rest from the climb and will start week 2 tomorrow.

I'm getting ready to run W2D3 today, and for the first time I'm going to run outside (instead of on a treadmill or an indoor track).

Time to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather!

W2D2 done. I think I hate this week, LOL. But on the plus side, at least this time I knew I could make it through all six intervals.

Minus side? I got a migraine while I was cooling down and am just NOW, at 10:00 p.m. my time, starting my weights. GACK!

Have a good one folks :)

W2D1 done! Wow was that a difference from week 1. I'm doing it on the road so not sure of my speed or anything but I'm doing as much as I can and I figure that's good enough. This week is definitely testing me out.

Hey there, folks :)

I just did W2D1, and it was pretty danged challenging. Here's hoping things improve this week before Week 3 hits.

Amy, I'd guess increasing your walking speed would depend on you. For me, I need my walking speed at 3 MPH because I NEED that break like nobody's business, LOL. I tried the 90 second intervals with 3.5 MPH walking, and only made it through 3.

So yeah... pretty individual is my guess -- whatever works best for you :)

I never came back yesterday to report about how W2D1 went...It was awesome!! It took me 33:20 to complete the work out. I went 1.97 miles. The only thing that I thought I could improve on for my work outs is that I walked at 3mph and thought it might be too slow...So now I'm wondering if I should increase my walking speed to 3.5mph. Any advice? I'm pretty sure I'm going to leave my running at 5mph because I felt good with that and don't want to try increasing that and finding out that I can't take that fast of speed in the upcoming weeks.

I hope everyone else at week 2 is doing well!

I have heard lots about how running on a treadmill is easier. I am not planning on running a race as of yet so I'm not really doing this as training, just as a way to get me running. I am excited to finally start week 2 later today (I got hooked on spark tonight for some reason)!

Bienegold - I hope you're foot holds up during your work out so you're able to get back to it! Let us know how it goes.

Update!

My foot is doing much better, so I'm going to take it easy tomorrow and do a day of W1 and see if my foot holds up. If yes, then I'm going to repeat W2 next week. I'm pretty sure most of the foot pain was because I was forced into doing a 4 mile walk in really, really terrible shoes.

Running on a treadmill is way easier than outside because there's no variation in the surface, and even when you program in hills, the elevation is more constant.

Friday I plan to finally do W2D1! I have a friend showing me where the fitness room is at school after my class today. I'm going to do some walking maybe try a little jogging just to get the feel of it. I've never used a treadmill before in my life! Check out my blog for my new work out schedule.

Liss - Sorry to hear you messed up your foot. I hope it's nothing too serious and that you'll be able to get back at it sooner rather than later.

Snowmentality - emoticon on completing W2D1. I cannot wait until I join you in saying that! I've heard it's easier on the treadmill than actually running, I can't remember why though lol. I'm hoping I don't have any problems on the treadmill when I give it try tonight. Sounds like you had a fantastic work out! You are definantly supported here!

KLMGSU07 - emoticon emoticon emoticon Are you doing day 2 tonight?

Ugh, I was SO ready to move on to week 3, but I seem to have messed up my foot doing 30DS. Hopefully seeing a doctor sometime this week, but I bet I end up having to do week 2 again in a few weeks.

Week 2, Day 1 complete! I ran on the treadmill rather than the indoor track this time. It felt a lot easier -- I was surprised when the C25k app told me it was cooldown time; I could have kept going for a few more run/walk sets!

But my legs were obviously feeling it. I tried to add a little Stairmastering, as I did all of last week, and my legs were screaming at me after 5 minutes. So I obviously got a decent workout.

It really is motivating to have this group to share with and read other people's experiences. I feel so much more supported.

That sounds like it's a good work out when you do 3 miles each time. I might end up adding a little extra walking at the end of my workouts because I have a hard time judging where to turn around and usually end up cutting my cool down walks a little short. So the next time I get out there I am going to go farther than I think I should and if I end up walking past the end of the cool down it's not going to kill me.

I hope everyone has a great weekend. I am getting ready and then going to be spending the day with my boyfriend while he races and later tonight we're watching a movie.

I just add in extra walking. The way it ends up working out is that I'm basically doing a 5k every time I go out, but it goes a little faster every week.

Bienegold - Glad to hear that everything worked out for you and that the family chaos resolved itself. When you say you do about 3 miles each time out do you continue to walk and jog the extra stuff above the program or do you just add extra walking in?

Everything ended up working out like normal. Just had some family chaos, but it ended up resolving itself.

Anyway, what I usually do for C25k is do about 3 miles each time out. I add in some tunes to the beginning and then end to pick up the time. Was able to shave off about 1 mph between w2d1 and w2d2!

emoticon Sadly I cannot report that I started week 2 yesterday as scheduled. The day just got to be too stressful with a rough draft of a paper due this morning. I did have time to do it I admit but I chose instead to watch some TV before spending the rest of my night working on that paper. I'm really hoping to start week 2 tomorrow now!

Bienegold - I think whether or not you decide to run 2 days in a row this one time, or occasionally when your schedule calls for it, is entirely up to you and how you have been feeling after one of your work outs. That's my thought on it any ways. I understand that you're not suppose to so that your body can get a day of rest between but if you're not doing it all the time I think it should be fine. Totally up to you though. If you can make you schedule work this one week to just run on different days then go for it.

Wannabike - emoticon and emoticon on starting week 2!! It will be over a week since I've finished week 1 when I start week 2 tomorrow. I haven't had any problems with my shins so far. Occasionally I realize one of them is hurting while I'm running but I've been able to concentrate on how I'm running and can avoid the pain and they've never continued to hurt after a run. Guess I'm lucky lol. You and me both sound like we want to be more consisten on working out. Good luck to you!

I did W2D1 tonight. I think it has been a week since week 1 and my legs feel it. My shins are aching, but I feel good about my workout. I hope to be more consistent and not let so many days pass before W2D2.

Need some advice, guys.

Is it really that big a deal to run two days in a row? (Well, for C25k) I get that it isn't ideal, but I'm having a bit of a situation this week.

I might have to walk to work tomorrow, which is like 3 miles. While it's not really that big a deal, I'm sure I won't be up to running after work.

eta: doesn't look like it'll be a big deal after all.
Do you think I should run Thursday and Saturday instead of Wednesday and Friday, or should I just run the 2 days this week?

emoticon on completing week 2! Your 8yr old made me smile while at work, you should tell him you "glisten", although, maybe not since if he thinks all girls glisten and he says that some other kids might not understand what he's talking about lol.
Good luck on Week 3, hopefully next week I'll be starting week 3.

Whoo Hoo! I finished Week 2 last night! The 4th run in the cycle was the hardest and then I got my groove back for the 5th & 6th run. Felt good when I was done. My 8yr old made me laugh- he didn't know girls sweat! I should tell him "I glisten" :)
Little nervous about W3 but I can always take another day and redo W2D3 if needed. :)

Hey folks! I'm up for try number 3 at C25k, because I'm kind of failtastic.

I've jumped straight to week 2 because I'm not a total noob and I like a bit of a challenge. We'll see if that bites me in the butt later, haha.

I've made it to week 5 before. Hopefully I can make it all the way this go 'round!

Beckley thanks for the support. I still haven't gotten out there to start week 2. I will try my hardest to start it on Wednesday. After that the challenge will be to continue with it more than a day which has been my normal trend.

I hope everyone else working on week 2 is doing fantastic!!

Congratulations on the weight loss Amy! Seeing the scale move down is such a great feeling, don't dwell too much on the disappointment of not getting up in time, just let it serve as a reminder when faced with similar situations in the future :)

I'm disappointed with myself. I was suppose to start week 2 yesterday but I had stayed up too late Tuesday night talking to my boyfriend on the phone that I ended up sleeping an extra hour Wednesday morning because I just felt that there was no way I was getting out of bed at 6:30. I decided I would do day 1 when I was finished with my homework. I should have said I would do it when I got home from class because I ended up not being done with homework until 9 last night.

I do have renewed motivation to get out there and do my workouts since I went on the scale today and it said 172. That's a 2 pound loss from last week which makes me super happy. Another happy note is that 172 is now my lowest weight I've reached since I started to lose weight at the end of June!!

I hope everyone is doing well! Hopefully the clock doesn't bother me when I move to running inside!!

If I didn't have the clock on the treadmill, I think it would be tougher... I count down right now until I can get back to a walking segment... 60 more seconds, I can do it, 30 more seconds, I can do it, 10 more seconds, I can do it...

Finished w2d2 today and I feel like today was harder than w2d1. I'm staying outside until I can't(live in chicago) because I get really bored running on a treadmill and I constantly check the time.

Newstart127 - Thanks for sharing with me how far you're running during week 2. I live in the country so I like to know ahead of time how far I'm running so I have a good idea where to turn around. I wouldn't want to be finished really far from home and have to walk back. Although that's probably not the worst thing to have to do. Eventually I'll be moving my workouts inside to a treadmill though because I'm in Wisconsin and I'm not going to brave the cold weather and probably bad roads to try and run, possibly falling down and hurting myself.

I'm looking forward to starting week 2 tomorrow morning. Feels to good to finally say week 2 instead of week 1 (:

I did w2d2 yesterday. First off, I have no idea how the people in the hotter climates do it. It was 80 degrees, and the worst run ever. At one point (going uphill of course), it felt like my lungs were going to catch fire!! But I did it. And what's sad to me, is that according to the HR monitor, I did not work out any harder than normal. I guess that's good though. And as odd as this sounds, I think my tibia hurts... If it doesn't feel all better tomorrow I'll be postponing my workout a day!

It's 9 minutes of jogging in week 2. I usually do a little extra walking and I don't push my pace - so I'm usually betweeen 1.75-2.0 miles.

5 min warm-up
90 seconds running x6
2 minutes walking x5
5 min cool-down

Noelle, I am using Ullrey's podcasts... but they don't seem to help much! I did W2D3 today, and it wasn't quite as bad mentally. Probably because I wasn't as tired as usual! I'm going to keep with it...

Nora, glad you were albe to go pain-free today!

See you all in Week 3!

Restarted W2 today and got through all intervals with NO PAIN!!!! Whoo hoo! I got sidelined by a pulled muscle in my calf about 1 month ago. Seems to be better now. Phew!

Keep on keeping on! emoticon emoticon emoticon

newstart...have you tried the podcasts? There are lots to choose from and they keep me going. I tried doing 1 day without them and I didn't make it because I got too bored.

I started week 2 yesterday. I'm finding this one alot more difficult than week one, although it's only 30 seconds more each set.

Did w2, d1 this morning. I don't think I could get through it without the podcasts, just because I get bored so easily that I would quit if I didn't have that timekeeper.

I almost enjoyed running today. I felt good and healthy.

Question for you all... I know I'm only 5 runs into this program... but I don't enjoy it. It's harder for me to stay going mentally than physically.

Anyone else having a problem with the mental game?

Did w2d1 this morning and it was a little tough, but I got through it. I skipped w1d3 and went straight to w2 and I am glad I did. I'm probably going to do all 3 workouts for w2 though.

After taking a couple of days off, my feet were feeling better. I still had my old shoes (not the new ones which were giving me problems) and decided to try a workout using those, and I took it pretty slow - running not any faster than 5.2 and walking at around 3.5-3.6. I didn't have ANY pain this time, just the usual muscle tiredness at the very end. I think when I have a chance, I'm going to go get fitted for some running shoes. Every experienced runner has told me what a great idea it is to do that, even if it does cost more!

I start my W2D1 tonight... I'm pretty psyched about it!! I'm nervous, but figure if I psych myself OUT on this, then how on earth will I handle the more truly difficult weeks!!

Evening Update: So I got my w2d1 in... It started a bit rough. I didn't see how I was going to keep it up, but before I knew it, I was done!! Mid workout I realized that if I can keep doing this when I thought I couldn't, then I can keep doing the next thing... and the next thing... The only thing really stopping me is myself!

Thanks for all the tips! I do know I need to get special shoes... right now I'm just using a new pair of lightwait athletic shoes. I live about an hour from the nearest special sports store and haven't been able to get down there yet.

At my heaviest, I couldn't walk a quarter of a mile at 2.0mph without getting shin splints... so that I'm even trying to run now is a big thing for me! Woke up okay today. Yay!

Will try W2D2 tomorrow. I am a water junkie and I add in 5 extra minutes of ssssllllloooooowwwwwww warm-up walking before I start the program. That seems to help, too.

Fortunately, ankles and knees have been okay so far. Good luck to you, too!

The key really is to find the perfect shoes for running. I went to a special sports store and sat down with one of the guys at the shoe department and told him exactly what I needed the shoes for and how my feet had high arches. How my ankles needed good support and everything. he found me the perfect shoe and I haven't had problems. Yes, you might have to spend a little bit on them but if you are really dedicated to running then it should be well worth the money.

Also, make sure that you take a few spits of water before you start running and stretch REALLY well. Usually I put on a song or two on my ipod just for stretching before my run and then again after. That way you feel like your muscles have had the proper pre-workout before the run starts.

Soreness during week two has been something I found so far. My body has been getting tired faster and such but it could be because I'm pushing myself harder. If you feel like you need to take a break to give your ankles a rest just trying running in place a little to keep them moving but not pushing them forward.

:)

Good luck! I know you can do it!

Did W2,D1 tonight. Did okay with it... shins are a little sore even though I spent a good five minutes stretching afterwards... hope that I'm feeling okay tomorrow.

Good luck everyone!
