Well, if you are really working out HARD, you may not be eating enough, and your metabolism has slowed down in protest. Or it could be the types of food you are eating.
You might want to post the question on one of the message boards; if you make your food log available, quite often one of the experts will advise you. Good success on your journey.

Only some of it is walking in place, for some parts you walk forwards and backwards, side to side, knee lifts, and kicks. I like to think of it as aerobics for uncoordinated people. I've done lots of other videos and the simplicity of Leslie's are something I really enjoy.

I dont get it. How do you walk at home and to a DVD unless you walk in place? I keep seeing to get the walking DVDs and that makes no sense to me

I don't really need help but I'm hoping to help motivate people...

...I just did the 1 mile walk and then I did the 2 mile walk right afterwards...I feel amazing! If you don't own the dvd set and can't afford it try looking for an inexpensive or even free download, it's worth it.

I'll be walking again tomorrow.

Someday is today!

In the online Walk Club, they measure every 15 minutes as a mile. Hope this helps.

Hi! I bought a pedometer and got the Leslie Sansone Walk at Home ... Walk Slim 4 Fast Miles with the Bonus 1 Mile Jog.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to track the exercise (cardio all the way, I guess). There is usually a warm up/cool down and then the actual DVD ... 4 mile walk (it's actually walk/jog in some spots) ... anyone have any ideas?

Maybe I'm just stressing over the 'right way' to track - but I am trying to be as accurate as possible.

Thanks in advance for your time/help!

You make a very good point. I do feel good that I'm making better decisions than in the past. Not perfect yet, but there IS improvement. I'm also trying to be more active. Again, I'm sure there's plenty more I could be doing, but I'm doing more than in the past.

Thanks for the empathy and encouragement!

Hi 4Arrows...I know how you feel I'm pretty sure we all have been there. This isn't an easy journey we are on. We will miss up but as long as you realize you're slipping and you get back on that track it will be ok.

You can't always look at the scale either. Maybe you only lost 2 lbs but how do you feel? I've lost a few pounds but more importantly I feel better about myself because I know I am trying to be healthy.

Good luck!

I have had a very bad 3 days, and I'm trying to get back on track. I've lost a LOT of the ground that I fought to take, and it is really, really discouraging me. Weight simply does NOT want to leave me (I must be an incredibly wonderful person to be around! emoticon )

Any words of encouragement or motivation would be greatly appreciated. I was really close to having lost 10 lbs and now I'm back to about 2 lbs lost. Granted, some of that is due to water retention as the humidity level has gone up a lot. But still.

Actually, I think you might be stressing yourself.
(I know at one point in time I was stressing the heck outta myself and I just would not lose any weight and on top of that I was pushing myself really hard with my workouts.)Once I relaxed, I started losing weight.

You may also be at a plateau but gaining muscle. Is your clothing fitting any differently?

I'm trying to get back to my hardcore workouts so I'm just starting with the walking dvds. I started 6/1 with 1-mile walk for the whole week. Next week, I bumped it up to 2 miles but felt that was too much so I switched back and forth from the 1 to 2 mile for week 2 and 3. Now I'm on week 4 and I'll be switching back and forth with the 2 and 3 mile walk and so on. I also do a 10 minute dvd for my thighs but that's it. And most importantly, you have to be conscience of your food intake. 90% of a diet is what you eat and 10% is exercise. That's another thing that took my hardheaded butt forever to figure out. When I keep my portions under control and workout, I lost but when I go overboard, I gained.

As of today, I've lost 9 lbs. just doing the workouts above, so I'm going to see how far I can go with the walking.

That' kind of a hard question, because the answer is probably different for everyone. I do outside walking, eliptical biking, outside biking, and Leslie on a regular basis. I also do strength training as generated by spark 3X week. I record everything I eat as well. Best wishes!

Help!! I'm getting frustrated!!!

That could be a mutli-part answer. If you look over the threads, you'll see it's a popular question. I take the easy way out...I take the time and what I walked...for instance...I log a 13 min mile or a 15 min mile based on what the DVD says. I know some people wear those heart rate watches, etc. Hope that helps a little.

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for this group and this thread...so here's my question... Does anyone know how we can find out our calorie burn to track our walks with Leslie. I mean the dvd I bought came with a pedometer, but it doesn't work right or something. I have to reset everything everyday. And I believe it does not track all the steps and calories burned when using with her workouts since they are very stationary. I really want to track my stuff but don't know how. Also in her 4 fast miles am I really walking 4 miles? It goes by so fast. I mean it is hard, but so fast... Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hi Charlotte, Thanks for taking the time to reply to my message. I am a big fan of the biggest loser too. I really wanted the son to win this last season, I was not real excited about Helen winning I thought she was kind of selfish. But that's me. They all were amazing. I will be there some day. I agree, your idea was a great idea, think about the long term goal and get through one day at a time. I am feeling more motivated these last few days. I wish you peace and fortitude charlotte, have a great night. Kathy

If you read the blog post I just put up, you'll realize that I am in the same boat...well, almost. I, too, started this in January with all the best intentions in the world. I haven't fallen off the wagon--but I also haven't lost any weight. It's a bit discouraging. I mean, I expected to hit a plateau eventually, but I did think I would have lost a few pounds BEFORE plateauing!!! I watch The Biggest Loser, and I know some weeks depite your best efforts you don't lose weight. But sheesh....after four months????

My best advice to you is what I'm advising myself--not to focus on short-term results but to keep my eyes on the long-term gain. If I continue to do what I know to be the healthy things to do, eventually the weight will come off.

Hi, everyone! Need some advice. I'm doing the push-up, crunch, squat challenge for June. I do a modified push-up with my knees on the couch and pushing up off the floor - actually had a personal trainer teach me this trick. It builds upper body strength quickly, but is not so difficult on the knees.
Crunches I modified by doing them on my stability ball with my daughter holding my feet.
Here's where I need the advice. The squats hurt my knees so badly, the only way I could figure out to do them was to crank my office chair as high as it would go and then just sit and stand from it. Is it okay if I count that as a squat? Or, is there some other way to modify and do a squat. I love having the challenge, but I also know that I have to listen to what my body is telling me!
Looking forward to your responses!

Joann

Wow, Achair! You really made some good points. Everyone that knows me knows I'm a chocoholic. I've taken to freezing Hershey bars. I break them in 1/4ths. It's less than 100 calories per serving that way. When I want a piece I take it out of the freezer and I SAVOR it! I just don't do it every day or eat the whole thing, etc. I'm learning that I can have the things I love...just in moderation. Portion control is a big deal for me. I can really eat most men under the the table when it comes to meat and potatoes. I'm learning how to judge portions and eat single servings. Keep up the good work!

I love people's suggestions on here! I am sooo exicted when I see myself losing something every week. Even the two weeks that I only lost .2 lbs. The first time I lost weight three years ago I didn't do anything about my eating. This time I'm making healthy choices that I can keep. IE eating 1-2 cups of vegetables for dinner. Learning to not eat more than a serving of potato chips in one sitting. Things I can stick with for the rest of my life. I encourage everyone to make changes they can keep. Not cutting out things they love in hopes the desire for them will go away. Cutting stuff out that you love will make the risk for binging higher. Learning portion control has worked much better for me. Instead of eating 4 hotdogs, I got lower cal/fat hotdogs and only eat two. Or instead of eating w/o paying attention to serving size, I eat only a serving of my fav. potato chips.

I also plan to start walk/jogging outside once the local HS lets out so I can use the track on regular basis. Change your work outs from season to season or month to month. That will keep it exciting. I love WATP DVDs because I feel like I'm changing it up when there are different people to stare at. *grin*

I'm pregnant with my first child, due April 13th and super excited! I'm trying extra hard right now to stay within my weight-gain limits.

I can do this!!

TESSIENINA, Thank you so much for your response to my sos. I need to stay more active on spark people. I let it go sometimes and can tell the difference. I know people have been very kind. I just feel down sometimes, overwhelmed. But I am feeling better since I wrote, I have taken charge back of my food choices. Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate your kind words.

Kathy, Try focusing on some short-term goals. I know when I think I need to lose 120 pounds, that just seems undoable. But, if my goal is to walk a mile today, or log my food today, that is doable. I think that I am going to pay more attention to my "streaks" on my Spark tools. I really can see where those will help me to keep on track this time. The big thing is don't give up! We can do this together. Good luck!

Kathy,

This site is amazing a few tips I would suggest are use the nutrition and fitness tracker faithfully. Be active on the different threads. Don't beat yourself up. It doesn't help to motivate, it just makes you feel worse. Don't forget that you are the one in control and the choices are yours and no one elses. Also if you slip you can turn it around with the very next choice you make. No excuses. Don't lie to yourself. If you have questions or need help ask. Everyone here wants to be healthy, together we can help eachother reach our goals one day at a time.

I feel so foolish, I started this in Jan, fell off the wagon in March, now it's May and I am no closer to losing the weight I need. I think of all the time that has gone by. I am still where I am, I have to start over again, I think I have to just think of one day at a time, any ideas for a person who is disgusted with being this heavy but lost in lack of motivation. Thanks for any help, Kathy

Do not feel bad, I lost 50 pounds and then got off the wagon for a bit. I gained 10 pounds back and was feeling so bad that I "made" myself get back into it. I have 23 more pounds to go to get to my goal. But do not think that you are alone in doing the same thing. First, just jump right back on the wagon and start watching what you eat and exercise. I know it is disheartening to gain it back but you lost it once, you can again.

As for being bored, this is one of my worst things. I get bored I eat. Do you have a hobby? Can you get out and walk when it is sunshining? I
know as a previous stay at home mom what you are going through. Keep yourself busy, even if it is cleaning out cupboards, closets and organizing. Another thing if you like to read is to get some books about exercise, eating healthy, anything that is about your health (at library if you can) and read about it. This helps with motivation. Plus, if you have kids they usually love the library and it gets you out. Another this is to get some different exercises to do and meaning not dvds. Get some resistance bands, kettle balls, etc... to add some "spice" to your exercising. Look up on the computer for different healthy recipes to make, make up your food list for the week to go grocery shopping, plan your goals and reward yourself for a good job. Even if you are on a plateau. Reward yourself for sticking to it.

Also, along rewarding is if you are on a plateau/ or restarting and not feeling the "excitement" of losing weight. Do something different. Get a different haircut, go tanning, buy an outfit anything that will make you feel better and make you feel like you look better. It helps me get jumpstarted.

You can do it!

I've been doing Leslie's WARP for 3 mo. now, and have lost 13 lbs..But the past couple of weeks I have really slacked off..Two days ago when I looked in the mirror I saw a glimpse of my old self coming back again..I immediately went to put on the WARP...I made a promise to myself to get this weight off this time its just very hard to stick too sometimes..&It's hard to Never give Up..Maggie..

You need to balance your calorie intake with your exercise output. some things you can try is only eat when hungry, not bored. I always drink a glass of water and weight 20 minutes before I snack. If after that I'm still humgry I will find healthy snack. If you find yourself looking for the snacks or looking in the fridge for something try taking a walk or doing 20 minutes of some form of activity( walk around the block, climb the stair 5 or 10 times not sure how old children are but if old enough take them outside for a game of tag. I always try to delay my snacking because the majority time I find I'm eating because I'm bored or stressed. Hope this ideas help.

DietPrincess, I am NOT a stay-at-home Mom and I have the same problem. I joined Spark in 6/2008, lost 40 pounds, then just "fell off the wagon" in November and put 20 pounds back on before I got totally disgusted and decided I had to get back in control. I would suggest getting out of the house when you feel as if there is nothing to do. I don't know how old your child/children are, but maybe you can take them to a park or somewhere where there isn't any food to tempt you. If you know you're not REALLY hungry, just bored, maybe you can pop a DVD in and do a quick mile. Good luck!

You need to go back to your start page and adjust for what you have already lost. You might need to actually increase your calorie intake.

have thought about adjusting your calories or exercise as you have lost a substantioal amount of weight and might to adjust your program for that. I plateau for a while and needed ti increase my food intake to kick start losing again.

MMMMM Oreo cookies! A definite weakness of mine! So, if I choose to eat an Oreo cookie....I choose to enjoy it...mostly I would choose 1 or 2 cookies..then I would go on and make wise decisions for the rest of the day. Yet, if I did choose to eat 5+ Oreo cookies, I would think really hard about it. For myself, I would ask, did I enjoy 5+ cookies, or did the 3rd cookie tastes as good as the 1st cookie? For sure, the first cookie tastes the best to me and then I can put the internal stop on too many cookies! This is just one coping tool I've learned for myself. Hope all is well for you now. Another thought, never beat yourself up for a slip! That is very helpful to me, I try NEVER to put myself down or beat myself for my behavior. emoticon

Hang in there guys. I gained this week but I know I can do better. Refocus on YOU!! You/I are/am worth the effort of being a happy healthy person. You/I can forgive our transgressions and move one. No use dwelling on what is done you can't change that. You can make a better decision the next time. I really think that all the megativity does nothing to remotivate anyone to get back on track. Let it go and move forward for yourselves.

I ate 5 oreo cookies and feel awful about it. I have been so good and now this. I know it is pms and losing my cat on Friday so I need to deal with the pain a little better.

I am going to go walk and do my pilates, that will keep me out of the kitchen.

At least the cookies are gone!

Deb,

We all have bad days. I just make sure I track everything that goes in my mouth. I also don't use slips as an excuse to continue. If I eat something I probably should not have, I try to get back on track as soon as possible. I hope you can refocus on you and your goals. Also don't beat yourself up for being human we all slip sometimes. Remember we are all human and that you are worth the effort of being a happy and healthy being.
