Not bad, all considering! I weigh in on Sunday mornings, and my bridal shower was Saturday night, so this reflects some light splurging. I'm happy with one pound this week.

emoticon I like the chances scale you posted Sonia...

emoticon SP has so many nice/cool tools & things, the bar code sounds awesome. I use the SP diabetes tracker to help me figure out how much to eat for carbs and total cals… and find the total cals pretty well fit my weight gains/losses when I'm actually logging. Last few months, moved to paper tracking - jot down what I ate, snap a picture, test and write down the bs#... and look up foods for carb grams/total cals when I don't know them to figure out how much to eat...

emoticon those are the mechanics, a bit time consuming, but not the hard part. the hard part is eating enough, stopping at enough... that is really what I am still practicing... Sometimes it's easier... sometimes, a lot of times, it's just dang hard.... I like it when it's easier.... and just have to keep trying because it's why i'm here, needing to do this!

emoticon Onward! keep at it everyone! it's nice to know I'm not the only 1! emoticon

Thank you so much for the barcode information. I do not have the membership, but the barcode is on mine. Gee all this time I've been logging it in myself. What a Time saver.

I do have the premium version and I am not certain if that is a difference in bar code reader or not. It was worth a one time fee of $25 for me to not have to deal with ads all the time. I have had it quite a while. Admittedly I am not using all the features as I should

I have the app on the phone. Do you have the premium version where you pay for it? I haven't done that yet. If you all have that, is it worth it?

It is on the SP app and yes you can scan the barcode and the nutritional information will go into your tracker the same as if you typed it in. It should be part of the membership. If you click on the +food button, the little bar code reader will be at the top right of the search food line at top.

Sonia, What is the barcode scanning all about? How is it done? Does it put the nutrition information for you? Is it part of Spark People membership?

Sorry your week was not good. I hope it is better for you this week.

@SHIRLA7 - super good job on meal prep. I need to do some of that this weekend also.
emoticon

Dr Update: He did a thorough neurological test yesterday and that went well. We are back to Ground 0 where I started 2 1/2 years ago - with the thoughts that I am in the early stages of RA. Blood work is being sent off and we will go from there. At this point any answer would be nice.

Dieting update: I have felt absolutely rotten this week, so no working out and eating has not been horrible but not the best. I have made a decision to cancel my WW membership (since I am also on a cutting back on spending expedition) and really focus on Sparkpeople. I know it is basically the same thing (calories vs points) and the app now lets me scan barcodes, etc. so I have reset my information and going at it again with SP!

Hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy some time for yourself!

Happy Friday everyone! TGIF!!! I'm doing a happy dance today because my dh is off this weekend. It's been a tough week for us both but we survived, his was stress from starting a new job and lack of sleep while mine was loneliness. We've seen/talked to each other for less than 30 mins. this whole week. I'm a light sleeper so I hear him come in in the middle of the night and wake up, I'm sure not sleeping well. One more week of this and another weekend off then he'll start 10 hour days, but he'll be off 3 days a week, he'll have to work on Saturdays though.

Sonia have you had your Drs. appt. this week yet? I hope you get some answers.

I knew going into this week I wouldn't want to cook dinner for just me so I decided to prep a whole weeks worth of food. It took me about 4 hours total but I learned a lot and decided it was so worth the time. Plus this way I knew my dh was getting a good nutritious hot meal everyday. I'm hoping to do the same this weekend but will have my granddaughter some so I don't know if I'll get it all done.

It's been a super cold week and the rain started yesterday again. It makes my commute interesting. I have a hard time seeing in the dark but with rain it's nearly impossible. Stresses me out. I just stay in the right lane and go slower. I've notice people don't drive as crazy on rainy days thank goodness.

I've done pretty good this week with my way of eating. Tomorrow is weigh in day so we'll see, hopefully I have lost a few pounds. Having food ready that was on my plan sure helped me stay on track.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

"This too shall pass"

I need to get up, brush myself off and keep doing it until I learn to do it right!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are doing well on your journeys. As you can see, I had another good week. It has made it easier for me to lose weight now that I have my mind trained to know that I have to do this for the rest of my life. I just keep telling myself to eat like a normal person.

I have been staying away from sweets, salty stuff and fast food places. It gets easier every week that passes. You just have to train your mind to do the right thing. No more excuses, If you want it bad enough it will happen for you. Reading the Spark articles have given me strength to keep focused. This is the year that I will triumph. I prayed to God to help me in my journey and He is helping me immensely.

Have a great week my friends.

Good job on the weight loss! I hope the DH gets used to his new routine as well as you do!

@ANNASGOALS - this is a new week. You have got this!!!

@MERMAIDLIFE - we are off to a slow start but we are here!

Thanks all for the good wishes. I hope the dr can figure something out. It has been 3 drs, 2 specialists and still nothing. The episodes had stopped for a while but they are back with a vengeance. Keeping my fingers crossed that something shows up and can be figured out.

Crazy busy day. Mondays on Tuesdays are hard.

Happy day to all!

Happy Tuesday everyone! I took Friday off because it was my dhs birthday so we spent the whole weekend enjoying each other's company. Since he's no longer the editor of the newspaper he didn't have any deadlines, breaking stories or pressure. It was very relaxing. We indulged a little too much but in the long run I don't regret it. Yesterday was the first day of his new assignment. Took him almost 2 hours to get to work and he mostly just observed what other people were doing. He had to be at work at 2 pm and I think he said he got off around 10 or something like that. I had a hard time going to sleep then I woke up when he came in and then just tossed and turned all night. He got up with me this morning but I hope he doesn't continue that. I probably won't see him again until Sat., next week he will start his new permanent hours - 10 hour days. This is a hard adjustment for both of us, especially since there was no forewarning. I have to keep reminding myself it's only for a month (hopefully)

I went to the ortho Dr. yesterday to have my knee looked at. He said he could see some small wear and tear from the replacement but he told me as long as I'm not in pain I shouldn't worry about it. He told me he thought I wouldn't have to have it revised for a few years yet so I'm hoping to hold out until I'm retired. It was a big relief to get that news.

Lifechangz - Sonia and I are both doing WW (Weight Watchers) the way they have it laid out now is different teams, determined by the amount of points and other factors, they recommend what team you should be on but ultimately it's up to you. She's doing green and I'm doing blue.

Sonia I hope you can get some definitive answers to your illness. It's so frustrating when you can't get an answer. I will be keeping you in my prayers. Hang in there.

After our spring/summer weather last week we are back to winter again. What a shock to the system this morning. Several days last week I didn't even wear a sweater to work, this week it's back to winter coats and gloves. Ugh!

Not a good week in my weigh loss journey. I am bloated, in a lot of pain and generally not feeling well again. I am having symptoms that I had before with dizziness, nausea and general just not feeling up to par. I have an appointment this week, so here is to more tests, etc to find out what not is wrong.
Any way this week was not a good week, but today is the beginning to a new week. So here we go again!

emoticon Hi everyone :)

emoticon Sonia, don't understand what the blue/green is? Hope you have a better week and dh gets settled into his new non-routine! the changeups are so hard on the body/sleep/eating routines...

emoticon Mermaid, awesome! sounds like you're ready to go! yay u! for me, I think 1 of the hardest things ever is to end a crash and get going again... it can be hellacious, so extra tlc as you get back into the routine & things that work for you! Go You!

emoticon wow Alley! sounds like you've made the leap to eating for all the helpful reasons. yay you!

emoticon gigglesnortz… snagged this from another team... before you chow down on the thing you popped in your mouth...

emoticon week 3... yeesh... hard to believe, but here we are! I maintained, again! for the 3rd week in a row... Count 'em, for 3 weeks in a row!!! Sparktacular! Taking that as a win!

emoticon why the woohoo? I have often thought... just stopping the gain is a win! maintaining is a win!!! when I couldn't seem to lose before, in the past, as I kept gaining and gaining... we're supposed to stop the gain and lose? Like - cut out/eliminate the OVEReating PLUS start UNDEReating so we we can lose? always felt like a double whammy punishment/torture! So... not gaining is a WIN! Maintaining is a Win! Losing is like Bonus!

emoticon Action - if I focus on what I can do, the eating... (this is my HORSE)
emoticon Results - then the scale follows... (this is my CART )
I am trying not to put the cart BEFORE the horse and stay focused on the Horse... the possible, the doable - what I can actually do and tolerate and even enjoy today!

emoticon Hope you are too! emoticon Keep your eye on the ball emoticon

Mermaid, Congratulations on getting back in the right frame of mind to start losing again. Just remind yourself every day that you will do this for your health. You will feel so much better when you see your clothes getting bigger and your weight getting lower.

I know you can do this. This is the year we all will lose a lot of weight.

I have had the hardest time getting started this year, and instead of sharing it and getting support from my friends, I've been sulking and pouting... Well, I'm done with that, and I'm ready to get going! I've gotten back on track this past week because I just could not record a 400+ starting weight this year. So here I am, late to the party, but ready to dance!

2020 Week #3
Weekly weight change: -3.4
Pounds to lose for first goal: 24.2
Weeks to first goal: 14
Total weight loss since 10/2019: 23

We had "framily" (friends who are more like family) come over for dinner last night... I had not seen them since October. Even though we text or talk daily, schedules just wouldn't let us get together. When my "daughter" walked through the door, her mouth dropped open and she said, "Oh wow, look at you!" It put a smile on my face! I had made their favorites (pulled pork, macaroni salad, cole slaw, mozzarella sticks, brownies, etc and had decided I was going to indulge...but those few words helped me realize I didn't want to pig out...not like I had planned and weighing this morning made me glad I didn't.

We have "adopted" the daughters of this framily as granddaughters. The older one is getting married on August 1 and is including me in her wedding preparation with the privilege of making her ring bearer pillow and helping to make the flower arrangements. So, my first goal is for our vacation at the end of April...and then my next goal will be set for that beautiful wedding on August 1st. I'd love to be 2 sizes smaller by then!

I guess I shared all of this because those short goals help me stay on the path. My way of seeing a light at the end of the tunnel!

Good luck to everyone this week! Let's make 2020 one awesome year of change!

Sonia, I am Blue, going to try it for a couple of weeks and then maybe switch to Green.
I checked for meetings in my area too and there's none, the other meetings are all around 30 minutes away and not very convenient. I miss the accountability too. I had the best leader and it was so much more convenient when we were living in the city. I've been having problems with my knee so I have an appt. Monday morning with a new ortho closer to us. I'm interested to see what he says. I'm hoping it's nothing major and that he will okay me to exercise. I feel so lost when I join on-line because there's no material. I've been looking on-line for lists and such.

Alley, thanks for your post, it spoke to me especially when life's turmoils take control like they did this week. I'm definitely with you on this.

I've had another bad week. I just totally let my emotions take over. My dh has been reassigned to another job at work starting Monday, the good thing is it's supposed to be more stable but the downfall is for the next month he'll have to do a long commute back and forth. Work totally different hours, different days off, 10 hour days and work on Saturdays. After this month they are going to try and get him set up so he can do this from home, it's their first attempt to do this so we'll see how it goes. This is going to be a huge adjustment for both of us. We're thankful they didn't let him go. No raise though, this company doesn't do raises.

Drove to work in fog and some misty rain again this morning, when I got up it was absolutely pouring rain. I haven't worn any kind of jacket any day this week it's been that warm in the mornings, tomorrow it's supposed to get cold again.

"This too shall pass"

I need to get up, brush myself off and keep doing it until I learn to do it right!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are doing well on your journey. I am doing real well sticking to my plan. I am finally eating like a normal person. Sticking to my under 1600 calories, not eating after dinner unless I am truly hungry and then having a fruit if I am, snow shoveling or getting some sort of exercise, 8 water, logging food, reading Spark articles, reading and responding to messages are my tools for losing so far. I want to lose at least 3.5 pounds per week so I can be at my goal weight next year. I realized that I have to do this for the rest of my life. I cannot let life's turmoils control me. If I have a problem, I have to keep control of myself. If I cannot, I will do something to keep me busy or take a nap. If I am starting to get hungry, I will wait and see if it will pass. If it doesn't, I will eat my meal. If I know I shouldn't be hungry, I again will keep busy or take a nap. I try to get my mind off of food.

I hope these tips help you a bit. I am going to do this. Is anyone with me?

Love you all.

Great job everyone on a fabulous beginning to 2020!!

Reminder: I am going to try to post on Tuesdays (we all know I miss this sometimes) so Monday night will be the end of the weigh in for that week). Any losses/gains reported after that will go on to the next week.
Feel free to weigh in whenever you want! This is your journey. I am just keeping our team stats. We have no real rules other than supporting each other :)

@SHIRLA7 :
The new WW is great. I didn't care much for the Freeform version, which allowed a lot of "free" items and very few points. I chose to go the "green" route which allows more points and less "free" choices. Chicken, eggs, tuna and some of the starchier vegetables now have point values but for me it works better.
I really hate not getting to go to the meetings. I NEED the accountability. They cancelled the workshop I went to and the other times just don't fit well in my schedule.
I truly do know it is a mind set though!

I am so happy for you that you got to go to the concert. Marking off bucket list items are the best!

Hey Sonia, I was wondering if you are doing the new WW program that just came out? I've been wondering how the new program compares to the old one.

It's going to be 70 degrees today and tomorrow, rain again today and tomorrow. This morning was quite the experience. I knew it was foggy but this was like pea soup. I couldn't even tell where the entrance to the freeway was this morning, I nearly turned around and went back home. The traffic was worse then ever it took me over an hour to get here. I hate when the weather is nasty. It was 61 degrees at 5:30 am. Next week we go back to winter. Oh joy!

So my first weigh in is a gain. Of course!
I am ok with this. I got back on my WW program and stayed within my points so I know I did ok with food. I also started exercising again so I did ok with that also.
It is all part of my journey. My fluid feels up today. It is what it is. Eventually it will show a better number for the work I have put in.
I have to remember last week I was down 2 pounds and I had been very bad the week before.

Happy Monday! I started out doing really good this week and then it went downhill on Thursday. Hopefully this week will be better.

I can barely keep my eyes open today. I slept for 4 hours on Sat. and 4 hours last night. Obviously my body isn't happy. My whole body hurts. It has been raining a lot, this mornings drive in was a nightmare. I'll be glad to see the sun come out again but it's looking like it'll be Thursday hopefully.

DH and I had a nice weekend away. I bought tickets to a Celine Dion concert back in April of last year. This weekend was the concert. I've only been to Kenny Rogers concerts so this was a new experience to me. It was a sold out concert, the line to get into the building was very LONG and it was raining. We were an hour late getting inside so she had already started, it was a good concert though. Seeing her in concert was a dream come true. We spent the night a hotel in downtown Atlanta so I was able to mark two things off my bucket list! :)

I do the rounded numbers too. I'm glad it's not a problem. I can't do the math either. LOL!

Congratulations to everyone lost weight this week! Good Job!

@LIFECHANGZ - yes it is Week 2. Unbelievable I know!!!
You can weigh in and post on any day you choose. I will compose all the weigh ins on Tuesday mornings and post the totals. So if you weigh in on Wed, you can go ahead and post and it will be counted toward the following week. It's the only way I can keep up LOL
If you want to just do full pounds, that is fine with me. Whatever works for you.
We are just glad you are here

emoticon so we're posting week 2? my brain seemed to stick at New Years! Hard to believe we're nearly 1/2 way through January! I also weigh-in on a different day; Wednesdays, so no change to report yet, and this year, I'm just reporting in whole pounds, when I hit the next lower pound (so I don't have to do the math in head which always confuzzles me, lol ;).

Decided to weigh-in on Sunday in 2020 but it counts for the Monday weigh-in. Setting short goals...the first being the week we go on vacation (finally) to Pigeon Forge. How I'd love to be able to fit into some clothes stashed in a tote!!

Keep up the good work! Even if I don't comment, I'm rooting for each of you!

I guess this is true. I have amazed myself this week. I must have lost a lot of water. I don't think I have ever lost that much in one week. Towards the end of last year I had gained about 12 pounds in one week. I have been really trying hard. I am trying to stay under 1600 calories, not eat after dinner, drink water and have been doing some snow shoveling. I am thinking of doing that 28 day challenge. Has anyone ever tried it? I am almost ready to start exercising. When we get the Christmas tree out of the way, I will start using the treadmill. I have got my mind back in the game. It feels so good to be rid of some of that weight I had gained last year.

I hope you all have success for Monday's weigh in. Have a great week.

Laura, Congratulations on your retirement. It must be great not having to get up in the morning. Bet you are glad that you don't have to deal with the winter driving so early in the morning. Now you can have even more fun with your friends and family and go on trips. I am envious of you. Bet the golf course will see you more often too. Have fun my friend.

Welcome to our newest members. You have picked the right team.

I am doing very well so far this year. All the gained weight seems to be melting off of me. I am hoping for a large loss for the week. My clothes are feeling looser. Yeah !

I hope you all are doing the same. Let's get those pounds off of us.

Have a great week.

I have noticed that it is hard to step on that scale when I'm struggling... even harder to post publicly when I'm gaining... last year, I had a 6 month crash/gain... I don't know what this year will bring... but will take a crack at it.

Last year, I snagged Christi's idea for monthly calendar and still looking for a pretty pink one to use this year...

Happy Happy Retirement Laura! That's awesome. I'm looking forward to mine. It seems so far away but in all actuality it's not - if I can stick it out I only have 4 more years until I have 25 years in.

After having my granddaughter for an entire week I was ready to drop by the time she left yesterday. It sure was quiet after she was gone. I've never spent more than 4 days with her so this was an experience. The bad part was it started raining Wed. and didn't stop until Sat. so we were stuck in the house.

As much as I didn't want to get up this morning and make that drive it feels good to be back at work. Also back on track today with my eating, drinking my water etc. I need to go home and try to do some sort of exercise for a few minutes.

"This too shall pass"

I need to get up, brush myself off and keep doing it until I learn to do it right!

Happy 2020!

I'm starting this year off higher than I hoped, but still a lot lower than any time in recent memory.

I retired as of 12/31/19, so this will be an exciting year for me...full of new adventures & challenges. My focus every day is to be VERY intentional about how I spend my time & also planning activities to get me moving each morning. My job was really sedentary, but stressful, which ended up being bad for me, health-wise.

Every day feels like a new possibility & a blank slate to make better choices.

Week #1 weight = 344.4

Looking forward to more consistent check-in here & good results for all of us.

Good morning everyone! I didn't make my end-of-year goal but that's okay. I started this journey on October 7, 2019 and although 17 pounds isn't what I hoped for as a 3-month loss, it IS a loss! Being with all of you helps keep me motivated!

The Turtle Race of 2020 has begun!

I am my biggest hurdle but now I'm ready to jump higher!

Wouldn't you know the week we are not actually logging loss/gain, I lose 2.2 pounds LOL

Feeling renewed and refreshed so trying to get back in the game this morning. Started off with 20 minutes on treadmill and 15 on bike. Getting lots of water in so far.
Now if only I can fight this battle with sugar that I am having. Thus far it is winning!!!

Happy Monday all!

I am having a tough time getting started, so I will most likely skip this week's weigh-in... I was really stressed about it and then I remembered, hey, I got a late start last year, too! So I'm going to spend more time getting my head in the game. I'm cheering you all on!

It's our first Monday of the New Year. Make it a great one!

EVERYONE:
I failed to mention that weigh-in days can be any day you determine but the day of recording will be Monday. Do what works for you!

PLEASE READ:

Just a couple of things for weigh-in 2020:

> Monday will start our official 2020 weigh in and count as Week 1. Monday is the last day for that week's weigh in. Any other weigh-ins will be counted as the following week. I will try to post results on Tuesdays.

> Week 1 weigh in will consist of a fresh start. You can report your weight (if you want) but there will be no record of losses/gains. This will be your beginning weight and your starting point for 2020.

> I do not keep a record of weights for anyone. Please report your weight loss/ gain each week and your weight (if you chose). This format makes it really easy for record keeping purposes:

> Reminder: If you do not weigh in with us regularly or use your losses/gains from the last time you weighed in with us, your totals may be different from mine. Just want you to know that in case we are different and you know you did better than what I have recorded.

> If anyone else wishes to take over record keeping, please feel free. If not, I will continue to do so.

Last weigh in:
277 lbs.
Gained 3 lbs back. I feel like everyone else does too, blah! Still trying to get the bad food out of the house. I did get the 100 Days of Eating journal and book, looking forward to starting it.
Welcome back Emily. So sorry to hear about your break up. One day at a time!
I hope everyone has a wonderful New Years. This year has been pretty bad but there were good times and a lot to be thankful for. I’m optimistic that next year will be better.
We’ll be ringing in the New Year in our pajamas at home. We try to stay awake but don’t always make it. Lol! I may not make it tonight though, my granddaughter keeps me on my toes and wears me out! I do love this age though. Christmas was so much fun!
