Hi - My computer crashed last week. My new one should be here around the 27th. I'll set up a new challenge soon after. It's just too hard and frustrating to hunt and peck on my Nook or phone:)

I know I've gained weight (don't want to face up and weigh:) starting in Nov. packing and then moving in Dec. I know it was/is stress and comfort eating and drinking. Now I'm in the denial "just one more day isn't going to matter" mode and we all know how destructive that is. emoticon

Anyway with Spring and Summer here before we know it I/we have to get back in control. emoticon emoticon

Hi Kim! Great to hear from you!

You're definitely not alone in how you feel. It's a common phenomenon. Because I'm the leader and keep track of everything and everyone, soooooooooooo many do the same thing. If they get off track and gain weight they disappear or maybe just lurk.

This team is NOT just for those who are doing good but also for everyone who slips up. We've all done it and will do it again in the future.

I'm a prime example of gaining, losing, gaining and losing. Sticking around helps you not feel all alone. Everyone can still give support. You know if you're doing good you can help those who aren't and if you're not doing so good others can help to encourage you.

Hope that all makes sense. In other words hang in there and stick around! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hope everyone had a wonderful New Year, Xmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Kwanza, Festivus/Solstice.....whatever holiday you might of celebrated!

Sorry I've been mia......not sure if it's my adhd or bits of depression or both but whenever I gain weight and seem to fall off plan, I just draw within myself and disappear from all forms of communication and community that I can avoid. It's been a tough few weeks, with cease of working out and sudden weight gain. I'm struggling with my emotions right now and I'm going to try to push myself more and more on here. I can't help but feel like I've been a disappointment to all those who come here and help give support and encouragement to everyone else.

Kim

Good Morning.

Thank you all who participated (even those who only participated on occasion) I hope that you all enjoyed this challenge as much as I did. I think it was a very nice reminder to us all that we just can't let it all go during the Holiday season.

I truly enjoyed being your leader, I relate to all of you when it comes to struggling with a healthy lifestyle.

Dusty, I am glad you were able to get moved and settled, you are such a great support to all!

Heather, you can do this you have come so very far!

Wishing each of you a very healthy, prosperous New Year! See you all on the next challenge!!! Donna emoticon

Happy New Year's Eve! Congrats to all the losers! I was not among them, unfortunately, but I'm back on track and ready to hit it hard. I've tracked food and exercised the last couple of days, and plan on keeping that up.

Donna, thanks for being a great leader, and Dusty, thanks for keeping track of everything!

More control over eating during the holidays!
And yeppers it will help in future challenges.

QOTD: Tuesday: Challenge Get 8 hours sleep tonight... Question how many did you get last night? I try to get at least 8 hours but sometimes my body says um no. I got 6 last night. We shall see how tonight goes. Sunday night I got a whopping 2 hours UGH

QOTD: Sleep...

Our 4 month old had a fever last night and was really fussy so my wife ran him to the late night instacare and at about 11 pm, we learned double ear infections:( I got to run out to the 24 hour pharmacy across town about midnight for the antibiotic so after all that and a few middle of the night interruptions, I am running on about 5 hours of sleep. I am hoping to get a good nights sleep tonight since there is nothing going on tonight and I am off work tomorrow.

It has been fun to be apart of this challenge. When I got into Sparkpeople in 2011, the teams I were apart of were pretty dead. As I jumped back in, it has been awesome to have interactions and share successes/failures.

Hope everyone has a happy new year!

QOTD: Tuesday: Challenge Get 8 hours sleep tonight... Question how many did you get last night? I think with New Years Eve tomorrow night we all need to shot for 8 tonight, then tell us how many you got last night.

Last night I got 7.5 that is my usual amount during the week, on week ends I try to get 8 or 8.5 hours as I do better with a little more sleep. I get up at 4:45 so it is difficult for me to get more than 7 or so hours during the week.

What have you learned from this challenge? Do you think it will help you in future challenges?

I've learned that I can control myself through the holidays...... the hardest time ever so yes I think it will help me in future challenges because if I can control myself when the treats are everywhere then I can do it the rest of the time!

I also want to say that this is a terrific group of supportive folks! I loooove you all so much!!

Donna - thank you very much for taking care of us and motivating us through this challenge!

QOTD: Tuesday: Challenge Get 8 hours sleep tonight... Question how many did you get last night? I think with New Years Eve tomorrow night we all need to shot for 8 tonight, then tell us how many you got last night.

It's actually surprising - I got 8 hours last night and I never get 8 hours all at once like that! I usually am lucky to get 4 at a time and have to add my hours together! I will try again tonight but it's usually pain that gets me up in the night!

Lots of snowmen today, my 6:00 commute consisted of 11 degree temp's lots of blowing snow and terrible wind... but alas I made it to work on time.

QOTD: Tuesday: Challenge Get 8 hours sleep tonight... Question how many did you get last night? I think with New Years Eve tomorrow night we all need to shot for 8 tonight, then tell us how many you got last night.

QOTD: Wednesday: What tricks do you have for getting your 8 plus glasses of water? How many did you or will you drink today?

These are the last two questions please TRY and answer them everyone. It has been a great challenge and I have enjoyed the interaction with each of you! Hugs all, Donna

Donna, thanks for hosting~ You did a fabulous job!

Dusty~ I don't mind helping anyone out but with it being tax season and it is going to be a doosie, I can't "host" not knowing when we are going to get super busy. But like I said I would be very willing to help out.

I really enjoy these challenges. They help to get you up and moving and make me accountable to someone other than myself, which is exactly what I need.

Today (12/29) was our last weigh in. But officially our challenge runs through New Year's Eve. Everyone can still post here all this week for the support though. I should have had it end on the 5th., so sorry about the mistake / confusion. I was hoping no one would notice:)

We'll be having another challenge early in the New Year though.

Thanks to all for being here and to Donna for coordinating. I didn't do so well with the holidays myself, and am starting to feel the effect of the toxic food and beverages (soda) that are affecting how I feel. Affecting my fibromyalgia and some inflammation. I am planning on a clean-up right after the New Year's Eve party.

Hope you all are having a great holiday season!

What have you learned from this challenge? Do you think it will help you in future challenges?

I have learned that with some planning I can make reasonable healthy choices even for the holidays. That if I have a high calorie count meal I can be right on track with the next bite of food. For me one of the most amazing accomplishments was to permit myself only 1-2 pieces of chocolate and be satisfied with it. This I do most evenings and it truly has become a treat. Even last night when I was experiencing some sadness, anxiety I didn't eat the whole chocolate bar but nibbled on a couple of pieces. This is truly a victory for me... And in the process I did mange to loose 10 pounds.

I found the people that shared this challenge with me the best and most helpful, everyone was candid and willing to share their successes as well as their challenges. I hope that we continue to work on this weightless journeys together in the new year.

Donna thanks for managing this challenge you did a wonderful job and your support has been great.

Happy New Years to all I hope that the new year finds you closer to your goals and dreams...

So I'm kind of confused when this challenge is ending. I did post my weight this morning so if it is the end, I will be able to say I lost 7.4 lbs over the holidays. But if not, I will keep on pushing through new years.

QOTD Monday: What have you learned during this challenge? Do you think it will help you in future challenges.

It has been great to have the support and motivation. What I have learned is that I can enjoy myself, eat some treats, and still stay on track. I really enjoyed working out through December. It kept me motivated and I did enjoy the near empty gyms emoticon . Sadly that will not be the case the first 2 weeks of January. emoticon

I pushed through some challenging weeks and I know that will help in future challenges.

Time to face the music! Like Missy I'm happy for those of us who could hold it together through the holiday. I'm not one of them. I'm not feeling down and dejected, just mostly resolved to undo what I have done and get back to where I was.

The only weirdness I have planned for New Year's is a glass of champagne and a session of Dance Party 3 on the XBox. And YES I do dance like no one is watching.

QOTD Monday: What have you learned during this challenge? Do you think it will help you in future challenges.

Since this was a maintain challenge I have learned that it really does make a huge difference how much salt I consume. What will I do in future challenges. I most certainly will avoid Mexican food the day before weigh in's

I have also learned that you are all a great group of individuals to work with. Hugs all, Donna

Hi all! Been MIA for a couple. Sorry my bipolar was fussing at me. DH was out so much on Christmas and then all of Christmas night doing his job since it was so cold that I think it put me in a funk due to some crap from my past and not having him here to support me. Like I said though he got to do the important stuff in between being called out. He is the senior mechanical technician for a heavy equipment company and he works on stuff "out in the field". When it gets cold here everything breaks down because the water that is in the gas freezes. Then of course there are the regular breakdowns. Anyway it's kind of like being married to a doctor. He has to have his phone on 24/7 unless he's on vacation and then sometimes even then!! I'm usually a really good sport about it since I've been doing this for 22 years but something just got stirred up and without him here, I kicked into a mania but it's over now and I am grateful to come back and see ya'll!

Happy Sunday! It has been a fun filled, crazy busy Christmas week but I wouldn't change a thing :) House full of guests for Christmas eve and low key on Christmas Day with naps to catch up on the missed sleep from the few days before. On Friday did take a ride to the ocean it was a beautiful sunny day and just what I needed for the soul...

Food has been a challenge for a few days and am not looking forward to the weigh in tomorrow. Trying to stay away from the sweets all goodies left the house with our guests. Today healthy choices have been replenished...

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend *hugs* Anna

I hope everyone is having a great holiday and is having fun playing with their new toys or their kids toys in my case (We gave my 5 year old my huge tub of legos that I had as a kid and I think I have played with them more than he has emoticon ).

I am enjoying the time at home with the family. I love the extra workout time and have been to the gym both mornings but the treats around the house are everywhere and I am struggling a bit. I am going to try and be more careful today.

Have a great weekend!

Wow, Christmas just went so fast!

My oldest DS and his girlfriend were home, and both boys had friends over both Christmas Eve and last night. Plus my sister and her husband and my nephew, and also my mom both nights. We ate and drank and played games late both nights.

I way overate and over drank - I made WAY too merry, especially since I have to work this morning. The scale was not kind when I stepped on this morning, but I needed the reality check to see what kind of damage I had done! Hopefully I can get a little of this back off before weigh in on Monday. I'm drinking my water today and have fruit for snacks and a nice big salad planned for lunch.

Hope you all had as much fun as I did for your Christmas celebrations!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

I had a pretty good day. I went overboard with the food, made pot roast and mashed potatoes, ate a cupcake and a slice of cheesecake and a couple pieces of candy that didn't fit in the kids' stockings.

I still have a cold and the kids are coming down with it too. My 12 year old is really dizzy and wobbling around the house. My husband had to go into work at 11 tonight and he was so full of pot roast and mashed potatoes that he could barely move. I sent the leftovers with him, along with some cupcakes for the other guys who had to work on the holiday.

Merry Christmas all - spent Christmas eve with family at my house. Everything went smoothly and we all sat down to dinner right on time. I think this was a first LOL I did have extra help this year in preparing the food it was a great day and evening. I have a added adopted family member she is nine and this is her first real Christmas with a family and a forever home. To see her joy has brought us so much joy and a reminder what this season is about.

Didn't do too well with the food but stayed away from the deserts except for 2 bites. It was a reminder that the sweets are just not worth it.

I hope all had a wonderful Christmas! I did myself! I had "banked" over 1000 calories and I only went over by 127 so I feel very good about the day! Plus I had a marvelous visit with my DD and her family today! I got to watch my DGS and and "adopted" DGD open presents and I got to hold my baby DGD! It was wonderful! DH didn't get called out for the important parts so he got to be there too! He's been on call for the last 5 Christmases - I'm trying to see the good in it instead of feeling resentful!

It's almost here! My family is far away so have Mikey coming up from Indian Harbor Beach, also an orphan this time of year, and plan on force feeding him lasagna salad and apple pie. Then will make him watch a Christmas movie, maybe two, depending.

Bill your hard work paying off! I'm in the doldrums and am waiting for a breeze to get me going again.

You folks on the road tonight and tomorrow, drive defensively. I used to work with a fool that loved to drink and drive, his favorite thing to do. I'm sure he's not alone, especially this time of year.

Everyone have a great time and stay away from the carving knife if you have evil family members. You don't want your Christmas photos to be an arrest picture; never flattering.

Hang in, Hang on, the cavalry is just over the horizon!

Well, I'm still alive, so there's that…..

My wife and I were so exhausted yesterday that after the kids were in bed, we crashed at about 9:00. The result was that I was able to wake up at 5am and go to the gym without much of a struggle. I pushed super hard and then came home and weighed in and I saw that I had hit my Christmas goal! I am now down 10% (-37 lbs) from my start 11 weeks ago! I had weighed in Monday and was up a pound so I thought I had failed but decided to push hard and maybe by Christmas I would be there and it worked!

Hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas everyone! Sorry I haven't been around much.

We always spend Christmas with family. DH is working right now, but when he gets home we'll go to the nursing home to celebrate with his side of the family (his sister is in the home, she has MS), and depending on when he gets home, when we get done at the nursing home, etc we'll fit in one of the Masses at church (3 times available today) and opening our own gifts in there somewhere.
Tomorrow we have Mass at 9, and then heading straight from there 2 hours north to my side of the family. We always play games, etc and have a big dinner and open gifts. Unfortunately we both have to work Friday morning, so we'll have to leave somewhat early to get home at a decent hour.

Hi All!

I'm sorry but I'm not going to be able to do our numbers today. Hopefully in the next few days.

My computer keeps shutting down on me. I had the Geek Squad out Sat. to fix the WiFi hook up and to see what was wrong. Thought it was fixed but it started shutting down with the blue screen Sunday. With Christmas I'm not sure when I'll be able to get them back out.

Sorry!

Reminder emoticon Next Monday, 12/29 is our FINAL weigh in!

QOTD Tuesday: My husband has to work overnight on Christmas Eve and Christmas, so we'll be celebrating in the evening, after he wakes up and before he has to leave. My parents will come visit during the day before my husband gets up, because my mom is avoiding my husband. Depending on the weather, we might go to the duck pond with my parents. My dad likes to feed the ducks.

I'm going to make a really good pot roast recipe, the best one I've ever tried, and mashed red potatoes, with a lazy cheesecake (the jello mix kind, with a block of cream cheese beaten into the filling to make it more like a real cheesecake) and some cupcakes for dessert.

QOTD Tuesday: What is your plan for the Holiday? Does your family celebrate on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

I really like our setup for Christmas. All of my local siblings come to my parents house for Christmas Eve. We do white elephants and let all the kids open their presents from grandma & grandpa. We then enjoy Christmas morning at our own house and I get to make my big ol' Christmas Breakfast which I love to do. We then head over to my wife's parents for Christmas Dinner with all her siblings. It has been nice not to have to trade off families and we still get to enjoy some time just as our small family.

QOTD Tuesday: What is your plan for the Holiday? Does your family celebrate on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

We celebrate on Christmas Day and our plans this year are to go over to DD's in the a.m. to watch the grands open gifts and then come home and work out and relax until time for the meal at which time we will travel all the way back to DD's (15 houses up the road- lol) and have our meal.

I intend to plan out what I am going to eat before I go over and then stick to that. I do want to indulge in a small piece of Dutch Apple Pie that we are having so I do want to work out at least for a half hour or so. This worked great for me on Thanksgiving!

I am having Christmas dinner at my house on Christmas day. Christmas eve will just be a lazy day for me. Hubby has to work tonight so he will sleep part of the day. I will most likely finish cleaning my house in between lazy spurts lol

QOTD Tuesday: What is your plan for the Holiday? Does your family celebrate on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

First of all I love reading all of your family traditions. Traditions are so important for people Individuals who have traditions are more happy and their children do better in school.

I was raised in San Diego so on Christmas Eve my family has tamales. A very simple tamale meal that we share as a family.

Then on Christmas as my children are all grown we have a very quiet morning and then meet about lunch time for a meal and present opening.

I am doing honey baked ham's turkey breast, a potato casserole and rolls. It should be lots of fun. We will also talk with my daughter in Singapore and also the meal will have a nice green salad~ HUGS, HUGS HUGS~ Donna

I plan to stay away from the sweets and limit how much I eat of the non sugar foods. A lot of the items that I will be serving are food that is made just for Christmas Eve so I may indulge a bit. My goal is not to stuff myself. The irony is that tomorrow I'm more likely to have a low blood sugar because I get so busy preparing the food that I forget to eat LOL

Christmas Eve is our Christmas, I will have all the family over for a formal dinner and then gifts and singing and a bit of drinking ;) This is the holiday that I look forward to most.

QOTD Tuesday: What is your plan for the Holiday? Does your family celebrate on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

My DS and his gf will be here tomorrow evening. They, along with my mom, my sister and her son and hubby, and my youngest DS and Ben are getting together for pizza and games at my house. Then Christmas day I'm cooking a dinner and everyone will be back. It should be a lot of fun!

QOTD Monday:

What will you today to contribute to your healthy lifestyle?

I'm cheating because I already did it..... I exercised for over 100 minutes! I'd like to make that a streak with at least 60 minutes a day!

I'm going to do the same BILL! One day in control. Hopefully both sun and dark alike. I may have to use the furry handcuffs.

QOTD Monday: What will you today to contribute to your healthy lifestyle?

I am going to channel my inner --Bern-- and try to have a perfect day today. I was really hoping to get my 10% by Christmas but I have been up and down the same pounds the last couple of weeks. I am giving a pretty good effort working out but I am facing a losing battle with the sweets and treats available.

So today, I am going to not partake in any treats, cookies, chocolates, cupboard snacking, late night fridge binge etc. I am going to eat my lunch I brought to work then go home, enjoy dinner, and move on!

Lauri, don't let me catch you running with those scissors again!

Why is it when the sun is high and bright in the sky I am so in control you could call me Joe Cool. But as soon as the sun goes down and the sky is dark you could call me the cookie monster; with a fork. Crazy as a loon serenading the moon. With a box of cookies of course.

QOTD Monday? What will you do to contribute to your healthy lifestyle? I am just doing everything I can to get ready for Christmas. I am going to be wrapping presents until I'm blue in the face. I am waiting until it's light enough outside so I can go raid our shed looking for gift bags and boxes. Everything got moved around and I am at a total loss as to where all my wrapping stuff is. I hate to go buy all new, but I may have to. What a disaster!! I thought I was a fool buying 8 rolls of wrapping paper at Dollar Tree the other day and they are almost gone. Lord help me!! I need a miracle about now. I just hope I can get everything done so I'm ready for Christmas. I hate being this far behind.

Hugs, Lauri

Lauri, simplify. That is all I can say, do only that which is necessary, do not do anything that is not totally necessary. Pick your poison. That is all I can say.

It looks like everyone considers the exercise while shopping etc about like I do, if it is for an extended period of time or a very large store most count it and most count the steps.

I love this group you are all so supportive of one another. Have a good Saturday/Sunday! Hugs to you all. Do not overdo it this weekend, Christmas is nigh at hand~

QOTD: I don't count walking during shopping as part of my exercise, especially walking while pushing a shopping cart.

QOTD Friday? Do you count walking (shopping) (parking lots) (long walks to restroom) as part of your exercise minutes?

I do if I'm out for a long time and have a lot of shopping to do. Especially if I go to Costco or if I make a day of shopping at Fred Meyer. I usually get a lot of steps in and I just count the steps from my Fitbit and count the time I'm gone shopping and cut it by about half. I try to be fair in what I log for exercise. I don't like to overestimate it. I do get quite a lot of exercise when I am shopping. Today I will go to the doctor and to Dollar tree and I will count my steps and probably log 1/2 an hour of exercise. That should be about fair. I hope that they can do something about these awful chest pains I am having. I imagine it is just stress but the pain is excruciating. I don't ever want to go through anything like this again. I know it's not my heart because I was in the Emergency Room last night and they did all the tests, but it doesn't negate the fact that the pain is real. I have so much to do to get ready for Christmas and I don't have time to be sick. Is this God's way of telling me to take care of myself?? I sometimes wonder if I need to slow down. I've already taken a break from school. I don't know what else to do. Any advice???

Hugs, Lauri

I do if I walk 10 minutes or more but I usually just let the tracker get it!

Got the results of my echocardiogram this morning and I have a slight heart murmur that needs no treatment! What a relief!

I only count "intentional" fitness minutes as part of my exercise minutes.

I found out today that I did not get the Business Analyst job. I'm equal parts bummed and relieved. While I was waiting to hear about it, I started kind of freaking out about the amount of time I was going to have to put in to learning a new job and the fact that my schedule is pretty full already! It probably worked out for the best... But it still stings a bit!
