Mort and I went for a walk in the snow today. He loves snow (he was properly dressed, of course!)

Aren't u afraid your girl will run off? I have had Scorpio for over a year now and wouldn't trust him or the other people. People are constantly opening and closing the gates to these dog parks. Not pay attention what or who goes in or out. Maybe I'm just worrying to much, but if Scorpio got out I would die. I just can't trust others,to be responsible enough. Most people don't know how if a greyhound gets out the will run. They think all dogs at dog parks r the same.
Hope everything turns out for u and your greyhound.
Good luck
Let me know how it goes.

I took Scorpio to the sprint pen early today, and he ran super.
Then we went to a breakfast at the Barn in Boring Oregon.
The barn is where my sister square dances. Scorpio got to meet lots of people which he loves.
We walked around the park today also, about 1 mile. The weather here is so nice it's hard to stay indoors.

I haven't heard of a light up band collar!

I'm gonna grab some dinner and then take my girl to the dog park to run around. This'll be the first dog park we go to, so it's small to see how she does off the leash in public. Only had her for a little over a month. If she does well I'm going to take her to the larger dog park next weekend.

My poor greyhound is having such a bad week. I feel so bad for him. He somehow managed to break a toe on his right hind foot early this week. He has a bad habit of doing this. (third one in his life). He is a bit of a klutz due to his brain condition (hydrocephalic). He wants to play and run like any greyhound but he has balance issues. I call him my dog with a V8 engine but no steering or breaks. So he came up lame on Wednesday. I took him to work and had our orthopedic specialist check him out and she said he had another broken toe but thought it would heal on its own and we should give it a little time. SInce he is such a bad anesthesia candidate it seemed like it might be easier to go with her plan and wait a couple weeks and see how he does. (He has severe seizures every time we have to sedate him anymore). Since he seemed to get around ok although definitely has a hitch in his giddyup we went with some anti-inflammatory and pain meds and I brought him back home. He was doing ok, and then yesterday he broke his food bowl in his kennel while I was out to the store and cut his right front paw. Now he is down to only two good feet and worse they are both on the left side. I have cleaned and wrapped his cut foot but it is not deep or anything that would be sutured it just needs some time to heal. It is so sad to watch him try to get around right now. He is such a little trouper but makes me sad! I have tried to help get him around but he is now 70 pounds, and has that needy puppy personality in a big dogs body. I am staying home today just to stay close to him. He is sleeping on my shoulder as I type this.

For the 4th consecutive weekend, I took my two greyhounds out to the Renaissance Festival and we promoted the adoption of retired racing greyhounds with Greyhounds of Fairhaven. Huzzah!

Today I bought light up, velco fastened bands for the collars of my lot. I will now be able to see them bound about the field if we are out late.
Our last lot of light up collars died in the spring, they were two years old and at a fiver for four of them, I think that they were a bargain.

Oh, I mended Gabriel's pajamas too. One of the hems had got caught on something and was coming adrift. Can't have him looking unloved and tatty.

Blessed are the cracked for it is those who let in the light.

Valley fever negative. Putting her on glucosamine. She was retired for a very minor fracture, though I can't find anyone to tell me which leg.

Nice morning walk with the hounds. emoticon

Jade had her annual exam yesterday. Looks good, though we did decide to draw blood and test for Valley Fever. She's been limping sporadically, and since VF can get into the bones, intermittant limping is a symptom. For those of you in other parts of the country, VF is a spore disease in the Arizona desert. When we get big dust storms, the spores can blow all around and if you breathe in the spores and are not resistant, you can contract VF. In humans, it is mostly respiritory. In dogs, it is more severe and can mimic osteosarcoma in the bones. It is easily treated, rarely cured in the hounds.

Lots of excellent services! I'm too chicken to clip nails. Today I need to get to the special pet food store to get the frozen raw yummies I put on top of the super special kibble. Because greyhounds will schnub boring food! When I'm making the people dinner, the hounds gather round for little trimmings of fruits and veggies. I love seeing four big dogs crunching on cauliflower ribs!

I cook food for my dogs every day. Chicken breasts w/ rice and also extra lean ground beef. So I guess that's one thing I did for them today (and daily).

Fred went for his nails 3 days ago. Only the vet techs seem to be able to cut them. My regular groomer says he won't cooperate and I can't do it.
And my whippet, Petey, was at the vets 2 days ago as he has a bulging disc in his neck. the previous night, every time he moved he YELPED and since he sleeps in my bed, that yelping woke me up every half hour or so. SO now he's on tramadol and an anti-inflammatory, and I'm using a halter instead of a collar for walks (he is NOT a fan), and he's ALMOST back to normal. I call him CIRCUS DOG because he jumps so high. Over sofas and chairs, over baby gates. Little wonder his neck is out of whack. UGH.

It's 100 here so between Petey not being quite right, hating the halter and the heat... our walks are kind of quickies.

My girls had a nice morning walk of about 20 minutes today. We shortened a bit from our goal of 30 as I'm getting over a cold and slept in late (til 6:20am) so it was already getting hot, here in Phoenix.

They're also due for a toenail clipping, so I'll be handling that later today.

What did you do with/for your grey(s)?
