When I started designing the Row robin last year, I loosely followed Lori Holts row quilt measurements, thus the 50 1/2' row or whatever It was I proposed. They were all supposed to come out that way but not all did and I just added white to each end to make it work out. When it is all quilted, no one notices that detail. The one posted on facebook was beautiful. Maybe I can figure a way to share it. Carol

Carol--I adjusted the rows a bit, but they are not something that works out mathematically at this point. In order to do that I would have had to take the blocks of the rows I had done all apart and adjust them and I did not do that. I have have some little additions and changes that are not the best looking--but o.k. at a quick glance. The rows were just too cute to let them sit. The 4 additional rows I chose to do are friendship stars, courthouse steps, butterflies and spools. I have them all calculated to come out to 48 inches. I'm not sure if I will do additional borders. I'm going to see what It looks like with the 4 additional rows. The rows I completed for the round robin were tulips, flags, and apartments as well as 3 checkerboards.

I realized when I was doing the round robin not to sew with a scant 1/4". It made my rows to wide, especiallly on the checker board. One of our gulid members posted hers and it was beautiful. Maybe I should take your adjustments and publish it and share with you Amy. Carol

Carol--it sounds like that project would be a good candidate for stuffing a dog bed! It is o.k. to give yourself permission to get rid of something that is beyond fixing to an acceptable level. Why put more good supplies into something that doesn't bring any pleasure?

I'm making progress on your round robin from last year. I readjusted the three rows that I had finished to make them all come out to within .5 inch of each other. I have picked out and recalculated 4 additional rows. I have one of the rows done and will work on checkerboards this afternoon. The rows I had done were super cute (could not abandon the project), just not the same length or close enough to the same length to make it work for me. I will get this top pieced before moving on to something else. After I finish this one, I will have three tops to quilt so most likely, I will quilt those and perhaps do some cleaning in the sewing area. It will most likely take me a few days (if I sew a considerable amount each day) to finish piecing the top.

"last older project" Now that is a description of a UFO. My cutting table has piles of this quilt and that quilt that I am working on. Last year we had a block exchange all year where we provided the fabric and the guild members made the block. I dont know what I was thinking other than I put a pile of sunflower fabric that was old and gifted into the box. I looked at the blocks last night and at least 4 are undefinable as to what they are. One is so busy, I'm not sure what the heck it is and which way to turn it. I have absolutely no interest in working on this or finishing it up. One block which is an appliqued hot air balloon is put on with the background fabric wrong side up. This was an exercise for me to show that ugly fabric can turn out fine but I think this fabric was too far gone. Too many other things to work on. Carol

I am working on piecing the last older project that remains on my cutting/project table. It is a huge mess with scraps/fabric related to the project. It will bug me until I get it pieced, but I do have a plan now.

Amy, sometimes we are pleasantly surprised when we try new things. I have ordered a couple of modern patterns to try.

It's been windy here, too. Blows all that pollen right in your face, I hate it.

I am having fun making those modern blocks. So far my plan is to make 56 of them. I have picked out possible blocks. It will be a real challenge to see how close I can come to using all of those 10 inch squares. I have picked some blocks that would be fine with just the two solids. Meanwhile, I'm not doing a lot of walking either. It is windy here making it not so pleasant for me to be out.

So this week, its Monday again, I have paired down what I need to do.
1. Go by LQS to get next clue for Saturday Sampler. I might buy a yard of gold fabric as I am totally out of gold! Can't believe it. Have a few odd pieces and that is it.
2. Unity rows 3 and 4
3. Comfort and Blessing blocks 4,5,6
4. Hubby wants me to put out a puzzle so I need to find one. Carol

Okay I stooped complaining and hit the cutting table. I put in a fresh blade and got out the accuquilt. With 1 1/2" strip die I made quick work of some strips and it wasn't so awful cutting them into squares as they were stacked. I got half the geese sewn up so will be working on that today. Its impossible for me to figure out how much yardage went into this but I sure am using up a lot of red/white/blue scraps, and gold. And a scissors works well to cut off those triangle ends. Will I finish row 3 today of Unity? We shall see. Carol

I agree Amy but then, I need to cut out all those tiny squares and sew them on. Balking at it. I will wait until the next row comes out to see what it looks like. I have Eleanor Burns ruler too. We are talking 144 geese that are 1 1/2 by 2 1/2. That is 288 tiny 1 1/2" squares. I spent yesterday making a bag out of a quilted panel by Amanda Murphy. Wanted to take it to the LQS but the instructions were confusing, even to me as I like doing bags. So may put that aside for something more interesting today. Not sure what that is yet. CArol

Carol--I would be tempted to use rectangles and squares for the geese. With tiny geese, not much fabric is needed. They do go quick. Just focus on making one or two blocks at a time. They could also be paper pieced. I have the Eleanor Burn's flying geese rulers (she has a set for small geese) and I really like those.

I finished piecing the postcard from Sweden top. Wavy lines are suggested for the quilting pattern. I do have a ruler to do that and it would be something else to try. It will keep the look more modern.

I finished the second comfort block. But for this one, I wanted to simplifty the HST. The unfinished block size is 2 3/4 and the pattern tells you to cut 2 blocks 3 1/2, sew on either side of the center line and then trim blocks to 2 3/4. This is stupid in my book. 3 1/2 is too big so what to do. I decided to try Kits by Karlas method of sewing strips together that are 1/4" smaller than the 2 3/4" size of the block. So I cut a half width of neutral and half width of orange and sewed them together. You have to be careful to use the 45 degree line on your ruler and make sure you are good with measurements because you then cut diagnally. I was able to get 5 perfect HST out of those 2 half strips. Then from the cut ends, I sewed orange/neutral together and got 3 more that I needed for total of 8. Then repeated with brown neutral. OMG, it is so easy to do it this way. Next block up is red/blue/neutral and I got my 3 blocks done. Then maybe I can concentrate on the guild BOM. Putting Unity aside for now to get some of these other things done. Carol

Everything in my UFO list.I just involves HST. I finished the sampler blocks . Attempted the mystery #3. My round robins were easier. Put it away. Did one block of comfort and it wasn't too bad. Looking for a simpler method. No unity today.

Thank you everyone. Of course, you are biased. Made from all those layer cakes and fat quarters I bought. I went back and looked at the other quilts. Emily's Quit is really cute because she fussy cut all those 3" squares to make a baby quilt. Wonder where she got all the motifs.
And I am listed at Carol's Craftsy and I dont know where she got that from as it is another instragram account, not me. Carol

Carol, very nice! It's interesting how the choice of fabric and colors enhances or obscures the design of the pattern. In my opinion, some of the other quilts looked like just another scrappy quilt. I really like yours.

I am sick of Frolic. And with Unity, the blocks are so similar, I'm just going to use some I already cut out for Frolic. I'm getting confused. I finished two long standing UFO's. The construction quilt and Almost a Lorax. Lorax was about a 5 year old top. Construction at least 2 so good to get them quilted. And I think I might have a photo session and actually post them on Etsy. I'm not giving them away cheap. And the bag I made which was from a class last month, took about 4 yards of fabric and the equivalent of interfacing, bosel and decor bond. Breaking even I had about $80 into it. But for me to ask that much for it, really? I am putting it on Etsy and now we have to include free freight so you have to mark it up to accomodate it. Then get a box and take it to USPS. I will post some pics but other things keep popping up. Carol

In between quilting Lorax, I go to the machine and sew up some Frolic blocks. I have 15 center pinwheels done and one more will be a 4 by 4 quilt so might stop at that. Some of the frolic pieces can be worked into the Unity challenge that Bonnie has worked up. Flying geese can be trimmed to fit. I need to work on the second unity round. Carol

I sat down with Frolic blocks today and have determined that I dont really like this quilt. Too many pieces and parts if you can believe I am saying that. And because she did them in sec tions, It is difficult to find the parts to put together. I have 3 blocks made and will make 9 more because I have the stuff cut out mostly. But I won't be making the big version. Too complicated and whatever has been done, can go into another quilt. Carol

I spent lots of the day going through a small cabinet in my sewing area. I was on a hunt for elastic. I found very vintage elastic on cards priced as low as 10 cents! I can't believe that older stuff (found more than one card of it) still has excellent stretch. I guess they don't make things to last today like they did in the past. My parents went to lots of estate sales and picked up various sewing things for me. I did throw out a big bag of stuff. I could probably get rid of a bunch more of it but at least I did part with some of it. There is lots left to do--will see what today brings!

If I don't work on this, I will probably start the kit or try making a few masks.

I have blocks ready to put together for 6 quilt tops. Thanks for pushing us in the direction of "purpose" vs. my existing "inertia" that has taken me over for the past 2 wks.
Sigh........

I have a couple of quilts I plan to finish up on the days I am off work-one is called Double Nickels and the other is my niece's wedding quilt. My hours have been cut but I'll still be working a few days here and there. As long as the shop is open I'm still needed to order.

Its April already and since we are under Quarantine, perfect time to finish a languishing UFO. I have been dragging out unquilted tops and getting them sandwiched and pinned. We have no excuse but to stay home and quilt and finish somethings up! I want to quilt some tops this month. At least one but I also want to work on Frolic, Bonnie's mystery, again. Get some of those blocks done. Not doing the whole thing I think. Carol
