Bruce,

I haven't felt this good in years. I think I'm addicted.

Hi Kathy,

405 miles is impressive! I bet you are feeling stronger as time goes on and you rack up the miles.

Wow, that's a lot of hydration. I always carry water and for the longer rides wear my 70 oz camel. I rarely empty my camel. I think I need to work on this, drink before I feel thirsty.

Thanks for the advice.

Kathy

Hi Kathy (aka. Handprint)

Great goal of a century ride! Your mileage is impressive. What I have found on really long rides that hydration is very important.

I have two 24 ounce Polar water bottles I attach to my bike frame that fill with Powerade. I also have a Camelback HAWG Hydration Pack that has a 3 liter main reservoir. I add an extra 2 liter reservoir to the HAWG and two or three 20 oz bottles of Gatorade.

I also take gels and Cliff Bars. I also take a small lunch if I am going to be riding for a long time.

I also live in Colorado where the high altitude and low humidity dehydrates active people very quickly. Every ride is uphill both ways and into the wind! I also ride way far from away civilization.

Colorado has a labyrinth of concrete bike paths, bike lanes and steep mountain road.

I would suggest you work up to the century ride. A number of 50 milers, a few 75 milers than the big one!

Good Luck, Bruce

7-18: 21 mi
7-21: 17 mi
7-22: 35 mi
7-24: 18 mi
7-25: 26 mi
7-27: 35 mi

Total to date: 347 mi.

Thereís a good chance I will make it to 400 mi for the month. Iím on staycation and Iím getting to ride more than usual.

But a question. I have set a goal to ride my first century in Nov over Veteranís day weekend. Iím going to a cycling festival that Iíve been to before. They offer a century ride for first timers and have ride leaders that help us beginners. I am looking for some guidance on how to prepare. My philosophy to this point has been to just go out and ride as often as possible and try to increase my distances. I think I need a more specific plan to reach my goal now.

Kathy

Handprint,

95 in the first week - you're well ahead of the game already.
