Apparently one should look for tinned green jackfruit, the only outlet I have found here is at The Bulk Barn so next trip to town I will make the plunge. It could well be the sauce that was sweet, I tend not to use them and make my curry sauce from scratch to avoid added sugars plus I like my curry hot. Thanks for sharing all the info!

Copy of my Jackfruit curry experiment blog:

Jackfruit curry experiment with pics
So I decided to do my usual chicken curry recipe using a jar of Tikka Masala sauce, but swapping the chicken for a tin of Jackfruit in water, which I bought in Asda. Apparently the unripe fruit is called green jackfruit and is very low in sugar content. I've put pics of the experiment below.

The net weight on the 400g tin was only 250g, but the tin was full. Not very appetising to look at, but at least it was already cut into 1" chunks.. I drained it and rinsed it a coupla times (not sure if you need to rinse or not). Then I put it in a saucepan with the jar of curry sauce and heated it all on the lowest heat for 20 minutes. Looks a lot better covered in curry sauce!

Once served up the consistency is a bit fruity, different bits looked a bit different due I assume to it being different parts of the fruit. I think it tasted a little sweet? Not sure - it might have been the sauce that was sweet. There were seeds in it - not too many - they were soft I think and looked a bit like baked beans. Hubby suggested we have it again without me asking if we should.

27 calories and 60p for half a can (125g),
against 167 calories and 2.62 for 125g of the organic free range chicken I usually use.
