Igniteme, I realize it's been a month since you posted the reply, but I appreciate it. It's been a rough week, and I've been seeing a chiropractor for my neck and lower back. Both are out of alignment, but he's working wonders already! I have to be careful what I do, but he doesn't want me to sit around all the time. He was very impressed when I told him how much weight I've lost. While the change in posture is good for me, that may be part of the reason I'm out of alignment. There is also some arthritis in the neck. Thankfully, there are no herniated discs. As for what was bothering me last month, it's still an issue. However, there have been steps taken, and I hope there will be recovery for this loved one and that it is permanent. So, my stress hasn't necessarily gone away, but I'm coping with it. Church family and other friends are a big help. I'm still reading the Bible and praying too.

Perrybabe,

I think you are on the right track. When I 1st tried this, it took me a lot longer than 5 minutes, but it happened so often in a day that I was able to bring His peace in quickly over time. Of course, when issues are happening around me , it always seems I have to bring my thoughts under control 1st and even now that can sometimes take a while. :) I have to be willing to turn it over to God and when it involves family, children, etc., I wrestle with it for a while.

I'm glad you have a good support system. Christian concerts can be so uplifting! Christian friends make life easier, too.

Thank you. I had major stress last week, and I didn't want to go to work that morning. In fact, I almost called off but realized people are depending on me. So, I just prayed and prayed (and yes, even cried a bit). Anyway, I went to work, and it was one of the best days I've had in awhile. I took my Bible with me; fortunately, I was at a school where they look favorably upon the Bible. Therefore, there were no issues with it. I read some passages a friend noted for me last summer. I realize some more hard times are ahead in the near future. Sunday night, I attended a Christian concert that really helped. We spent most of Sunday with fellow believers, and that helped so much. The devil was really giving me a hard time Sunday. I'm doing better for now. Thanks. emoticon

Perrybabe I realize this thread was posted in June, but wanted to know if hat you're doing has helped. I deal daily with stress and have found ways to relieve it, as well. Most have been shared on this thread.

Anxiety .... I just stop what I'm doing and practice the presence of God (remember who He is, how much He loves me and wants the best for me, etc. ) before I take another step. I refuse to walk out the door and deal with life until I have that peace. Normally in less than 5 minutes I have peace again.

Times when I was working, I would take those brief minutes shut my eyes and remember His presence, once again.

I hope you have found what works for you!

Thanks Adirondackmom. I am like you; I do not like to take more meds than necessary. My practitioner still isn't ready to take me off of some of the meds, although she has reduced the dosage of some of them. She doesn't want to "upset" things. However, she does yearly blood work to keep an eye on things. I don't take herbal and supplemental remedies just because someone tells me it will help this or that problem. I do pray and read the Bible daily. I'm pretty careful about Yoga and meditation due to some of what I believe. However, relaxation techniques are helpful. In fact, I did the 30-day destress challenge here on SP last year when I first broke my shoulder and had to miss something I'd had planned. That is another big, long story I won't get into here and now. I found a breathing exercise here on SP which was quite helpful. My practitioner said I don't breathe deeply often enough which is causing some medical issues too. I am feeling quite a bit better today, though.

I NEVER EVER WANTED TO TAKE MEDICATIONS! I HATED THEM!!! But now because of my severe Osteo... I have no choice. Plus I was told if I don't take the meds for my High blood pressure that I will risk a stroke or heart attack! So along with other meds I have to take them!!!

So take only what you have to... be careful of herbal use... they can be just as deadly if you don't know what you are doing... do YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE USING HERBALS and check with your pharmacist and doctor first!!! Some of them will work against other meds!

I have been told that Yoga is a good stress reliever along with exercise... not sure if you have tired that PERRYBABE??? But it is worth a try... I am not really able to do much of it because of my serious neck and back (spinal) issues...I have to be very careful of the poses.

There is a lot of info on Sparks about stress... I hope you have read it all. Plus there is a stress forum and "30 day stress challenge" also! You should check them out if you haven't already.

I too am considered very stressed most of the time.. it can cause many physical issues but mostly attacks the 'gut'! Breathing exercises are the best!!!! You can find them on the internet!

Prayer is also the key! Allow God to help, HE has helped me each and every day get through my situations! I have had a tough-rough year and I would not be okay with out my Saviour!

Listen to the words of this song....

Thank you Shortstory. I'm glad you believe medication plays a vital part in this treatment. However, I'm finding I also need to change/tweak my diet some. While I have not called what I've done to lose weight a diet, there are times it needs to be referred to that way for other health reasons. I'm feeling quite a bit better today and may have found a way to manage this. In addition, I think the change in medication dosage has helped. I've been reading out of several devotional booklets and a motivational quotes book (+ the SP App on my phone). They all help. In addition, a friend of mine sends a devotional to me most days via text message. I have been praying and trying to find ways to "destress" such as watching a movie or doing something I like. Believe it or not, exercise does relieve it to some degree. I also take a little something (prescribed) for nerves/anxiety. This treatment plan isn't over by a long shot, but I am feeling better today.

I have major problems with anxiety and always have. My doctor told me I'm very high strung ; ( I take a mild anti-depressant which does take the edge off. Finding a time to be alone to pray/meditate and read the Bible is very helpful also. I find if I take the time to talk things over with God that He does settle me. I also believe that meds are part of the plan for me. Without them I am a total mess. I hope you can find some relief.

Thank you everyone. Yes, I have taken probiotic (acidophilus), but I wasn't sure it was helping. Maybe I do need a prebiotic with it. I know some brands of probiotic are better than others. The one that seemed to work well hasn't been available lately. I've been reading about certain foods that are naturally prebiotic.

Have you thought about taking probiotics? My doc told me to take them because my meds cause constipation and they help.

Stress and anxiety can certainly cause physical problems. You're right, it is a vicious cycle. I do pray that you'll find relief.

I don't know about the medical side but I do practice yoga and when I am really stressed, I just watch some mindless TV.

I hope this is the correct place to start this thread. I am dealing with IBS-C, and it has been worse lately with stress and anxiety. While doing some research this morning, after a doctor's appointment, I find that anxiety and stress go hand-in-hand with IBS (either type). While I do need to make some dietary changes, I am also finding that I may need to find ways to cope with the anxiety. The research I did yields the fact that anxiety may be the result of IBS but also aggravate it. It's a vicious cycle.

While I'm not into meditation and yoga, what do you find helps with it? I read the Bible and pray often. Yes, I tend to worry and get frustrated and irritable sometimes. Some people embrace a Christian type of yoga. Do any of you embrace/practice that? My dr. has prescribed a medication to help with the anxiety disorder (brought on by a possible TIA 12 years ago). It helps some but not as much as I'd like. I listen to Gospel music and try to read for pleasure (when I have time). I try to work on my hobbies as time allows too. That's one thing I like about having most of my summers off. :) That may be about to change. I'm looking at a career change soon --- talk about stress! emoticon While I posted about this in the IBS Team's Forum, I also want a Christian perspective on ways to relieve stress.
