Sounds like a wonderful vacation, Mia. Haven't seen Robyn here recently either. Did my first craft sale yesterday and am trying to get everything caught up today. I will email you later. You aren't the only one who has put on weight recently. I have got to start almost from the beginning again. Maybe we need each others support to stay in the game??????????
At any rate, let's both try to get back on track. again. Hope you are able to stay on SP without trouble as I know how costly they are to have removed.

Hi Laperle,

Been on SP for 20 minutes now and my laptop seems to be behaving OK. I hope SP does not cause more techie problems....it was expensive getting the virus removed.

This site has changed since I was here but that's fine; I intend to make a fresh start anyway. Feels like I have put about 10 pounds back on; just back from a great holiday in France with all the family, where we enjoyed very sumptuous meals. Escargot tart, delicious horsemeat burgers and shrimps as big as my hand were among my favourites. MH is doing a barbeque tonight and has tequila beer to wash it all down.

Ok, where's Robyn hiding out? :)
see your email, Laperle

hugs, Mia

Sparkling good wishes to all sparkfriends Mia

A ROBYN I can relate. I did not like my weigh in this morning at all. I was up a pound from last week. Guess I really have to work harder this week, and watch the cookies I have been telling myself I deserve because when I posted my nutrition intake I was under my calorie allowance. Need to pay closer attention to the amounts I am eating and no extras! Hope everyone is having a good week.

Happy Monday a day late! I didn't get time to post yesterday, and hope everyone will take a Happy Tuesday from me instead. the Weigh in did show a slight loss, but not as much as I wanted. Oh well, on to a better April when we, hopefully, won't have such depressing weather. We are already experiencing warmer days and can see the ice disappearing slowly, but surely. Here's to a great week ahead.

Happy Monday, everyone! Sorry I had to skip last week; it's been a busy place.

Sounds like we're all doing fairly well. I'm 2 pounds down from my 5 pound vacay gain; just keep swimming, just keep swimming...

Trying to get back to 3 miles a day. Once you're out of that zone it's so easy to say oh just 1 or 2 will suffice today. emoticon

Great job Mia! that's a good loss for a week. It was really cold here this morning as well, but the sun is warming it up. Yet another snow storm predicted mid-week. The last two mid- week storms have dropped over a foot each, so I am hoping this one goes far out to sea! If we get another heavy snowstorm we not ever see spring.--- As to my weight I was down on Friday, but up again this morning. No surprised, we celebrated birthday's yesterday finally. Now back to counting calories and no treats for awhile! ---- Mia, enjoy your company, and remember all the polishing is good exercise! LOL Need to do more polishing myself!

good morning, everyone! Hope your week was good!! emoticon

thick frost this morning but the sun has cleared it away. Well, I'm a little lighter than last week; 2lbs lighter. Laperle, I had to return my bands; I opened the box to find 3 strengths of 3" wide plastic strips, with no grips on them; even the shop assistant said she'd never seen ones like that before. They came from a supermarket here which is owned by Walmart.

Won't be on SP again until next Monday. We have some friends coming Thurs- Sunday so I'll be busy baking, cooking, polishing.

Robyn - Congratulate your son for me. My daughter is obese and I would so love to have her lose weight. She does try, but because of food issues before we adopted her. it is hard to overcome her emotional eating. She eats healthy and is a fantastic cook, but it is so hard for her to control her portions. Part of the problem also is that she would rather read than exercise. Hope everyone is having a great week.

LOL! I'm certainly fried after a full day of work today, I'll tell you that.

Quick note-my son, over the past year and a half, has lost 60 pounds. He's a clerk at our grocer's produce department, and he gets all the yummy stuff there. He's become quite the gourmet and keeps me on my toes! He walked with me last night to get me back in the swing.

Robyn and Mia -- You are so right that life is for the living and we need to enjoy life for as long as we can. Speaking personally, I can not enjoy life if I do not try to take care of myself. I do not stress over every single calorie and when there is something to celebrate, I do not deny myself. Of course, I try to keep everything in moderation, but I cannot enjoy myself if I don't have a dessert occasionally, etc. When there is no celebration (although we should celebrate life and continuing health every day), then I try to eat less to keep the pounds in check. If I gain a little or even lose only a half pound in a week that is okay. I'll make up for it sometime. I just need everyone to keep me weighing in so that those pounds don't continue to creep up without being checked. I am thankful that I have such good fried s here that keep me accountable.

Hi Mia! Life is for living, I agree!

My hubs and I are both ministers, though not yet ordained. We are non denominational, but come from a pentecostal background. We just love God and love people and that's generally enough. emoticon

Hi everyone and welcome VIVIANKAY3 and Winterssix........just what we need; new blood to get us moving again.

I didn't get a chance to come online y'day, and wasn't in any rush to report my fatty gain of some 4 or 5 lbs; You're in good company this week, Robyn. We were at a birthday party on Sunday and a St Pat's Day booze-up y'day...life is for living!!

It's still much too cold for me to walk outdoors in comfort so I'll stick to pacing up and down indoors. Roll on the good weather; everything seems rosy when the sun shines.

Robyn, are you and your husband both church ministers? Which faith? Are you missionaries?

emoticon emoticon Let's work hard this week to see how many collective pounds we can lose. Right??

It is bright and sunny here, although it was almost 0 this morning when I got up. Put the dog's sweater on her before I took her out--need spring to come soon. As to the weigh in--not as bad as it could be, but not as good as I wanted it to be. I lost a half pound since last week, but then I indulged a bit yesterday when I found that the birthday's celebrations had to be postponed for another week. -- Oh well, this is a new week and I will be doing my workout in a few minutes. Hope everyone has a good week!

Good Monday to all my sparkfriends! Had a wonderful vacation time in Wyoming. Really nailed down some things for us in preparation for our move. It will probably happen in August, not May as originally planned- rentals become more available (and better priced) when the tourist season ends.

If I hadn't told anyone here, we currently live in Oklahoma. We are moving to Cody, Wyoming (right outside Yellowstone) to help start a church there. We are SO excited!

All the walking must have paid off because we went all over the place at pretty high elevations and I, prairie girl that I am, had no trouble. However, the food intake didn't go as planned.

FIVE POUNDS. As in FIVE. Gained. Ugh. It's okay. Once more into the breach.

I love Mondays. Mondays are new beginnings in my book so I'm grateful for another one!

I DID lose some weight this past week....but it all was way more difficult than I had anticipated and I found I need a more solid plan to accomplish my goal AND feel good about it. I kind of feel like I lost weight by default...if that makes any sense.

So Happy Monday! New week, new beginning, new drive to succeed :)

I'm here Mia, just haven't seen you on here recently. Have been having computer issues and have been using my desktop rather than my laptop. Not nearly as convenient--and I am getting so frustrated with our local computer repair service. He has had my laptop almost constantly for the last two weeks--got it back yesterday--and it still has the same issues. GRRR! Oh well, our weather is warming up, I have been doing effective workouts almost every day, and the scales are dropping slowly. I dread Monday since we are celebrating birthdays tomorrow--mine and my son-in-law's--so who knows what the reading will be. I'll try to be good.

Yoohoo! just warning all you guys that I'll be weighing-in on Monday. Where were you all last week?

For a whole variety of reasons I'm finding it almost impossible at the moment to keep up my workouts, though thankfully my weight remains the same. I've been treading water for 3 months now but want to get going again.

See you all Monday! emoticon

Thanks Mia. I'll have a cup of tea with you anytime! Will be sharing the actual celebration with my son-in-law whose birthday is the 13th. We hope the weather is co-operative so that they can come over on the 16th. They have an hour and a half drive in each direction so they will reschedule if there is a snow or ice storm. My daughter and her family are precious to me and I don't want them to take any chances.

And speaking of shivering! It is only 24 degrees here and there is a winter weather advisory until 4 pm. If it were sunny, that would make a difference, but it is gray and dismal out there!
I think I must be one of the few people who made it in to work today...our school and the county schools are closed and so are some government offices. Needless to say, I haven't had a very busy day! Just lunching and have a fresh pot of coffee on to get warm! Have a good day, everyone!

Hi all: It is a beautiful sunny day here, but COLD and breezy. When is spring going to al least give us a little warmer weather? Guess I can't complain though as I was down a half pound this morning from my weigh in Saturday (to get a starting weight on March 1)--which makes a total of a whole pound down from last week, Unlike you Mia, I will take a half pound loss, but prefer a full pound. Have started doing some of the Leslie Sansone walking off the pounds videos, and I especially like the fact that a couple of them shows a minutes ticker on the side, and all that I tried so far show when a mile walking has been reached. About to try in full the one I did a bit of last night. Have a great day everyone!

Morning all- well, I finally went to the doctor and it turned out I had bronchitis. Caught it before it got really bad. So last week I took it easy and swallowed these GIANT horse pills and ate a lot of chicken soup.

I have not exercised at all- unless coughing and shivering counts- so how I wound up a pound down is a complete mystery to me. I'll take it, though! ;)

Going to start back again today, just doing what I can, because I don't want a relapse! The weather is finally going to start breaking and hubs and I have a trip planned next week, and I don't wanna miss it.

Mia, sounds like you had a lovely holiday! Hope my friends in the US are digging out and staying warm- our heater went out yesterday in the thick of the storm. Had a repairman come out to look at it but it's fussing this morning so we'll have to call him out again.

I can do ALL THINGS through Christ which gives me strength!

emoticon everyone.........I'm back in business! emoticon

No damage to my scales reading this morning; I'm 0.5 pounds up........but, hey, I never do things by halves so forget it. emoticon

I've got a new Jillian Michaels workout to try; it's No more trouble Zones, free from Youtube. I haven't watched the whole video but I see floor mats which is not my scene at all. As ever, I'll just do what I like........so there! emoticon

Beautiful sunny day here, just like y'day, though it was pretty windy too; dried 3 loads of washing outside on the line, for the first time in months. That felt good!!

I'll be back tonight to see how you've all done. emoticon

Hi again Mia--My shoulder is not totally pain-free, but it has improved to the point where I am not in constant pain and can do most things without a lot of pain. In fact at my chiropractic appointment today, I question if two appointments a week are still necessary. After next week I will be trying one appointment a week to see how I will do. If I don't get any better than I am now I can live with it, but I will try for totally pain free if possible.

Our weather has been bitterly cold all week, but for the most part sunny. We did get a dusting of snow last night, but less than 1/4 inch. I have seen the Northern Lights a couple of times and found them breathtaking. Since we live very close to town we get a lot of the town lights here, and it needs to be dark to see the Northern Lights, but if we are further out in the country under proper conditions we see them.

I haven't seen Bob on here in the last week or so. Hopefully we will hear from him soon. Have a nice weekend.

aha! I'll need to shift quite a few more pounds before I think of beach wear emoticon

how are you doing this week, Laperle? Is your shoulder pain-free now? How's your weather? It is still bucketing down here, with 3 more wet days to come, and very cold......so cold that all over the UK last night people could see the Northern Lights (google: The Aurora Borealis) and they sent spectacular pics to the TV stations. We had our blinds closed and missed everything :)

Where's Bob? I know you now have consent for your surgery, Bob, and you have put up a nice photo of your trimmer frame but we want to hear about your week too. How are you doing? Do you feel good now that you know the surgery is going ahead? I'm one of those folk who tidies the house before the maid arrives so I'd be going flat out to lose as much weight as possible before the surgeon arrives....no kidding!! :)

thx Laperle, emoticon

not only did we have a great holiday but we booked our next one, in a beautiful big French mansion near the coast. It has 9 bedrooms, most with en-suite bathrooms, so plenty of space for the whole family. So exciting as it's the first huge family holiday since the grandchildren arrived. We have lots of get-togethers at each others homes but this is a proper holiday. :)

hope you've all had a great weekend.

we got home tonight after being away for 4 nights and I'm in a great mood. Last week was half-term for my grandchildren and we had a ball; pizzas, pancakes, ice cream, concert.......that sort of thing. Down to serious business on Monday emoticon emoticon

I see that a few of you have not been feeling well, and I hope that you are taking care of yourselves. Make your health a top priority--you can continue trying to lose weight and get workouts in once you are feeling better. As for me, I have done my workout for today--a 41 minute walking video for belly, buns and thighs. I did weigh in this morning, but have been playing with the same half pound for awhile--up again, down again, up again--but I feel that it is partly my fault since I had some chocolate and cookies calling my name last week. I was doing long workouts as well as getting exercise in with wood, snow shoveling, etc., But........... Just have to try to do better this week!

Feeling horrible...head cold that I caught over the weekend. Probably due to me being stupid & having my window open slightly in the car while driving 40+ MPH. DUH!!! It was really nice out the time though. LOL! My weight went up to 228, even after having some serious physical activity including a great workout at the gym last night with my 17 yr old son, Zach. Still not giving up!! Just got to get over this damn cold. ugh..........yup...it's Monday. EW!! emoticon

Morning everyone.

So, busy day last Monday, special meetings at my church last week, and then my Uncle passed away. Saw cousins I haven't seen since we were teenagers, but what a couple of days. Even when they're upbeat funeral services just wring you out. On top of that I got slammed with a head cold that tried to move into my chest, but I believe I've caught it. All in all, yeah. Not the greatest of weeks.

I've done no exercising at all (except for work) and I've not tracked a bite. Gave myself a bye today- I didn't weigh in and I'm just going to start back this week and keep going. Hopefully everyone had a better week than I did!

I can do ALL THINGS through Christ which gives me strength!

ROBYN you' re allowed to be unsufferable when you buy jeans with no elastic waist in a smaller size. Enjoy the feeling. I did not weigh in this morning as I had weighed on Sat. for the Feb. challenge and was down 2 lbs. I am trying not to weigh in too often. I have been doing walking/dance videos every day and together with the snow shoveling think I am staying on track. Did go out of town shopping today--hour long drive in both directions--to get the things needed at the warehouse store, etc. Am now playing catch up with everything!

Congrats Robin.

I'm almost scared to get on the scale. Was sick last week and on prednisone. Ate everything in site and did not exercise (although all the snow shoveling should count).
Feeling ok, and started exercise again this morning. Think I'm going to wait til Friday to get back on the scale...... do some damage control first lol

Hi everyone

Robyn, your new jeans sound grand and don't jeans give a better silhouette.

same here; no change. Again I can point my finger to those Vs Day vodka cocktails and a bottle of wine the following evening. Going to lunch with DD today and have already booked my salmon meal online.

Lost an inch from my waist in the last month and the top of my arms have shrunk by 0.000009" or something like that :)

let's hear about your week, Laperle and Bob. Hey, Bob I see from your feed you've been working out a lot ....WTG!!

Hi everybody, checking in a little early because I have one busy day. Taking down all the Valentine's and putting up all the Easter and mothers day makes for a long day!

No change in the scale, but I don't care because because because...

I bought a new pair of jeans IN A SMALLER SIZE!! And cute jeans, too, with bling on the pockets and no elastic waist. You have no idea how I have been swanning around in these, feeling like I'm the hottest woman on earth. I've been quite insufferable. :-)

Robyn, I think I am just retightening some muscle I already have. I am only "chopping" a little firewood. What I am actually doing it carrying what my husband cuts and throwing it into the basement through a window. Once in the basement, I then pile it once some of the ice is off it. Most of the pieces are of a size that can directly into the furnace, or be carried upstairs to be used in the kitchen stove. Yes, all in all it is quite a workout, but even when a piece needs splitting I use a wedge and sledge hammer to do it, and then only a few pieces at a time!

Laperle, are you sure you're not gaining muscle? Lose a pound of fat, gain a pound of muscle= no loss on the scale, but it's all good. Chopping firewood is heckuva workout!

very pleased for you, Robyn. emoticon on moving down 2 lbs. emoticon

emoticon You're almost nudging the three-quarter way mark. How exciting. emoticon

I think the increase in your calorie range is likely to be your burned calories being added automatically if you opted to link your food and fitness trackers.

Bob, another loss emoticon I wondered what you meant when you said we are nose to nose and then I spotted your ticker. SNAP :) Both at 44lbs. Now that we have a level playing field, let's aim for 2 lbs. off this week. It's totally doable. Hey, it's ok to eat a little off plan, Bob, but try to make it all healthy stuff; try to substitute your favourite foods for the low salt/low sugar/ low fat version. If you have a sweet tooth, search for sugarless toffees and chocolate. Ask your family to help you find them. There are loads to choose from. Make sure you have lots of treats handy so you never feel deprived.

C'mon Laperle..........catch us if you can emoticon emoticon hey, hope your weather has improved. You sure chopped a lot of firewood lately.

Hi again, Mia--You asked what my silver medal was awarded for. It was for the number of steps taken last week as recorded by my SPAT. I have received one each week after the first week of having it. That first week--really only a few days at the end on the week--I was awarded a bronze medal. So they really aren't very hard to get. My SPAT is set for a goal of 6000 steps per day, and I usually do at least that many, which is not hard considering I live in a big old farmhouse with a cellar and two living floors above the cellar. Plenty of trips up and down stairs and into various rooms on each floor! Not to mention trips outside with the dog!

this week again, I anticipated a gain, as I had a hard time sticking to the plan, and somewhat cheated some days. However, the scale was my friend this morning, and I dropped a whopping .4 of a pound! I will take it! Your chance to go ahead Mia! Looks like we are nose to nose in this race!

Congratulations, Mia and Robyn! Great job in the weight loss department. Our bodies are very complicated indeed and they may get sick of the too steady calorie range and occasionally want or need the extra calories. As for me, I have been doing the one step ahead, one step back with my weight recently with no great loss. I have been doing my video workouts as well as a lot of physical work on the firewood, and you would think that should cause more loss than I have seen. Perhaps I need to eat out of my calorie range a couple of days?????????????

Great job, Mia! You're burning a lot of calories with your walking. Keep it up!

Plateau: BUSTED. Two pounds down, thank you Jesus. I looked at what we were mailing about Mia, and I found I was under-eating at breakfast and lunch. I can sneak in some more protein, fruit, etc during those meals.

Weird- my base range for calories changed when I put in the new weight. It went higher. Has anyone else had that happen?

well, I'm somewhat stupefied; I really can't understand this weight loss thing. We had no fewer than 5 huge red meat dinners this past week, my sirloin steak y'day being 10oz and way over my calorie limit yet I'm down 2 pounds. Had to weigh 2 or 3 times to be certain.

There's a moral somewhere here but I can't put my finger on it..........anyway, it's party time emoticon

Oh yeah, Laperle, with you on freezing rain/sleet. Snow is way better.

Did my latest Sansone 3 mile. Hysterical. She brought back the grapevine (anybody remember that?) and Lord above, Patti Labelle singing New Attitude. It was like being in aerobics class in the 80's.

So sorry to here your problems, Bob. Hope you win with the insurance companies. I also understand the sick of snow and ice. Although personally, I would rather see snow than freezing rain--which turns into the ice problem. It is snowing here right now.

I am not going to let a snowy day depress me though. I have done a 36 minute disco dance video, and am planning ways to get extra exercise--stack firewood, shovel snow, and the list goes on. Am also dyeing material for a basket I need to make very soon--that involves a lot of steps up and down stairs, as the equipment dye material is in my cellar.

Hope everyone is making the best of whatever hand they a dealt today.!

Well the week is coming eith more than its share of stress. First both of my insurances denied my surgery only to find out that it wasn't completely true. Still fighting with them, but I seem to be winning. Then there is today' snowfall again. I am so si c k of snow and ice and cold! And this is only Tuesday.

well, Mia, I have to admit a 1.2 lb loss for last week. The challenge I was in before I weighed on Wednesday, but the new one I have to weigh in on Mondays, so I weighed last night, and was surprised to see a loss, but I will take it! emoticon

Good for you DRAGONSDAWN. I always feel better after I exercise and have done a 31 high impact walking video this morning.

As to the sugar content in food, This is the reason I make a lot of my own baked goods. Don't usually bake bread, I have in the past. When I make cookies I sometimes cut the sugar by 1/4 cup of more as my tastes have changed and so have DH's. Reading labels and trying for low sugar content is the way to go, and eventually you will look for things that are less sweet.

BUT, I still have to have chocolate once and awhile, but like the dark chocolate bits as a special treat occasionally.

I think food manufacturers have a lot to answer for. When they were told some years ago, in the UK, to reduce salt in bread, they complied but nobody noticed that they had gradually increased the sugar content. Apparently, sugar is THE big addictive factor in getting us to eat much more of any product.

to celebrate my weight loss y'day, I made a grilled bacon wholemeal roll..........and the 2 together were inedible.........the roll was sooooooo sweet and sickly. On reading the label, I found there was 5.1g of sugar in a single roll. Sugar will be the next big thing to be targeted by health officials.......and it couldn't come too soon!

It's weird- I really don't use a lot of table salt; I don't cook with it a lot either. But I definitely have to start making my own soup and broth- YIKES. Even the "low sodium" versions are just nuts.

Glad I could help Robyn. And yes sodium can definitely be a factor. I stopped using thealt shaker years ago. Only add salt to water to cook pasta and just a sprinkle when mashing potato. Don't even add any when recipes call for it in baked goods, etc. Never miss it. And yes, Mia is right if you explore spices (experiment to find your favorites) you will never miss the salt. I make all kinds of homemade soups and use spices instead of salt. They are always so good.

hey Robyn, I stopped using salt in cooking many years ago, when DD began taking an interest in food labels, for the children's sake. You can buy the low-salt version of most foodstuffs now, and of course, compare brand labels online.

I don't think you'll ever find ME eating at the lower end of my calorie range.....I still eat large meals by eating back a lot of my burned calories. The message boards are superb for advice on this.

if you are looking for interesting spices to replace salt, try to visit an Indian-owned shop.
