Already up to 30 zip bags with five of them made from Amazing Grace fabric. Need to move on to something else. They want pot holders but I hate making pot holders. So boring. And different bags. Or kitchen towel holders, etc. Carol

I made 3 zip bags yesterday. My goal is to have 30 made for our arts and crafts at church sale in October. Need to count today. And I made one pillow cover. I'm taking a pile into the church today. I cut out some 5" squares yesterday on accuquilt. If Dorian hits us and we dont leave, I can cut and organize. Wont have electricity probably but I can sort while sweating. Carol

The reason we have a stash is to be able to pull from it for charitable purposes and more. Easily found a backing and binding for the baby quilt for the church yesterday. I might make some zip bags today. Here is a cute free pattern from Sew Sweetness. sewsweetness.com/2019/08/per

I had a productive day at the Church today. I worked on creating a top out of 3 fabrics that had been in my garage for more than a year. Tired of looking at them. Part of it was hand quilted squares sewn together but only a strip down the center so had to make it bigger. Got that done. Created a couple of backs and cut out some squares. And cut out some bindings. One woman had her machine so I would cut and pin and take it to her. We were busy and tied 7 quilts today. I came home with two tops to put with backing and batting and quilt on Platypus. Smaller ones. I am so glad to have this hobby to keep me sane. Carol

One local quilt shop has invested in the Accuquilt program and the other shop is taking it on as well. They are probably 5 miles away from each other. I think the second shop ought to just let the first shop have it and not compete. I probably have all the dies I need and use only 2 or 3 of them. I have a brick die that I should use and cut bricks. I plan on cutting and sorting scraps at the church today. Carol

10 1/2" are the size we cut at church. 48 of them for a top. Or when we have decorator fabric that is 56" or so, we can use that width instead of 60". Sometimes we use 10" blocks if they come in but 10 1/2" is the usual preferred size. And anything goes. I got a quote for a custom die from accuquilt to cut 10 1/2" but it was $100 so not really worth it by the time you have to cut your fabric into strips anyway. Wouldn't be any faster I dont think. I spent the day stripping at the Sit and Sew today. I came home with two less bags than I took but still a lot. I cut out two complete quilt tops and working on one already. Then son called and kind of ruined our night. He has some serious issues and has been sent for a medical evaluation. Seems it never ends. When you have a disease like depression and do things that other people seem to be able to control, others think you are not sick. But depression is real.
I stripped all day but still didn't finish. Carol

So I was at Arts and Crafts yesterday when a woman and her husband showed up with 5 bags full of fabric scraps and one bin! We had fun sorting them but honestly, what on earth are we going to do with them? Most are smaller pieces but a few larger ones. I brought a bag home of fabrics we can't use, like patriotic and angels. They have to be generic fabrics. But what am I going to do with them? I am going to take them to guild sit and sew tomorrow and maybe get out the accuquilt to cut them into usable sizes. Then what? She had it all color coordinated and there was a pile of greens Bev. Felt like I need to let the other ladies go through them before I do anything with them. Carol

Pattern designers are so creative. I am glad I have the matching jelly roll because the instructions are provided on how to cut the layer cake into so many pieces. However, because of the serrated edge and the way I cut pieces with the ruler line on the fabric, I wasn't able to get 4 2 1/2" pieces across the width of the layer cake. So I had to drag out the matching jelly roll piece to get the cuts that I needed. No problem. I have lots of ideas on how to use the rest of them. I'd rather have squares that match in size. Carol

Got into the stash this morning. Like I needed to start another project but I had a layer cake and a matching jelly roll that I've been wanting to find a pattern to use them for. lellaboutique.com/collection

Using this pattern. I also had enough of a tone on tone rose cream fabric that is the neutral. Had it a while so it was good to use it. Sorry to see it gone as I did like it very much and originally had 15 yds. So the butterfly will be flying in a rose garden. Carol

Fabric In 86 yards plus 2 layer cakes
Fabric out 147.50 yards
Holy Cow! I stopped at the Presbyterian church yard sale on saturday after lunch when everything was half off. I walked out with a bag of quilt shop fabric and I just measured it all. One piece of a pink and white strip from Michael Miller measured 5 yards and it was new! the assorted rest of it yielded another piece of 2 yards and a 3 3/4 yd assortment. All together it was 10 3/4 yards for $3 of new fabrics! And two were sea themed neutrals that I will use. I need to go to more of these yard sales. Carol

Deeply discounted neutral batiks are a good addition to any stash Amy. Our problem arises when we buy stuff we have no use for and need to wait on a pattern. Sometimes it takes years.

Haven't added to this lately so thought I better do it. Just added some yardage to it from the church yard sale. I'm not counting any of the men's shirts I brought home. Now I need to find the pattern for the little girl's dresses that I had in my hand and now cannot find. Carol

I added to the stash again on Sunday. I found some neutral batiks deeply discounted. I had thoughts on how to use them, but not so sure now. I also bought another quilting ruler. I haven't played with the other ones yet. I thought I had some quilts with 2 inch squares to quilt, but don't. I think I will still play with the ruler. It is the creative grid Elvira ruler. Oh well!

I thought maybe you might like to have this block that I made for our guild BOM. Credit goes to McCall's Quick quilts with adaptations.
Christmas Wreath
Colors: Christmas green and red fabric combinations
Red Christmas fabric
Tone on tone white with stars, snowflakes, tiny florals, etc. 1. Choose (3) 2 ½” by WOM strips of green and red florals, prints, etc.
Out of each strip, cut (4) 2 ½ by 10 ½” segments (A) 2. Out of white tone on tone 2 ½” by WOM fabric strip cut (4) 2 ½ by 10 ½” strips. (A) 3. Cut (4) 6 ½” squares out of white tone on tone. (C) 4. Cut one 2 ½” square out of white tone on tone. (B) 5. Cut (4) 2 ½” squares out of red Christmas fabric (red B)

Follow directions on sewing together provided from McCall’s Quick Quilts.

For an alternate block, after sewing the 6 ½” C square to the 3 strip panel, sew another line about ½” from first sewn line and then cut in between the two lines. You will have a bonus block to square up to 5 ½”. Sew the 4 HST bonus blocks to make a pinwheel 10 ½” block.

Went to a yard sale at a local church and it was half price. I walked out with a bag full of cotton quilting fabric for $3.00. One is a pink and white stripe and at least 2 yards. The others smaller but still ample to sew with. I would saiy that was a haul. Carol

Working on a block from a magazine that calls for 4 2 1/2" strips, 4 6 1/2" blocks and 5 2 1/2" blocks. It makes a huge block and showing it for BOM at guild. I saw the pattern on Facebook from Annie's and then in a magazine brought to guild. Annie must be an extension of McCall's. There is big money in quilting but there are also a lot of magazines going under. Carol

My LQS is having a short bolt sale from Quilting Treasures. QT has sent 300 bolts to the shop. You have to buy the whole bolt, what ever is on it 3 to 8 yds. I bought 2 last time, used some of one, the other will get used but not yet. I should go and look though, don't you think. They do this often. And Mike Flynn from QT is presenting a seminar next tuesday evening. We shall see. Carol
