If there are not dogs at that park then maybe it would be good. The one out here is packed all of the time. Give it a try anyway.

I am in a quandary about them at this point. We moved from property where they could run around and play to a house with a tiny yard. I have to walk them for necessity, not just for recreation. There is a dog park exclusively for our community. I have yet to see other dogs there - my dogs have had all there vaccinations and are on flea control and heartworm pills. They love it there but I would never take them if we lived anywhere else, still question it sometimes though.

I won't take my dogs. I had friend's dog's who ended up sick after going to play.

So glad that worked, and the dog is safe. I don't have pop tarts either, but my Hubby made some peanut butter cookies for the dogs. I'm sure that would have worked lol.

After the 4th of July it was in the news that a Belgian Malinois (the kind of dog one of my daughter has) also a K-9 dog was spooked by fireworks and ran off. It was rescued and found a day or two later by a woman who was able to coax it to her with a Poptart. I thought that was a funny ending to a could-be sad story. I don't have Poptarts in the house- I wonder if I could have gotten it with dog treats?

finished a piece of native regalia for a Cherokee friend of mine. I had originally designed it as an armband, but it would only fit someone with huge arms. It would work as a headband but the tassels would lie directly in front of the wearer's eyes. It is a commemorative piece in honor of her father who was a Code Talker during WWII. Most people who have heard about the Code Talkers know of only the Navajo Code Talkers, whose skills were utilized in the Pacific Theater. He was on the European Theater, along with Code Talker Teams from other Tribes used throughout the European Continent.
I am very pleased with the project. The two tassels are of white horse hair, and they are each capped with an empty brass .45 shell. He would have carried a .45 in the Army, The bead work happened quickly of the medallion in the center. Writing his name in bead work was tricky. My guess is that it will be a display piece, instead of worn, since he has crossed into the Other Side. So the size of the piece will be no matter.
Because it is a commemorative piece for her deceased father, I will not show it here without her permission. As I do other works, though, I will share them in my Spark Blog.

IT is a wonderful breezy, in-the-70's day here. NO rain so far, but it is wonderful to open the windows and turn that A/C off. I hate autumn and winter for the horrific cold, but the humidity here in Michigan has changed a 180 degree turn in the past five years.

We are 100 here today, but by Wed. we are supposed to be back to the 80's. Much better isn't it? There is a lot on the table these days. I am an advocate for animals. They can't speak for themselves, so people need to speak for them. Getting older does free us. Funny how things were so important at age 20, doesn't mean that much to us at 50 or 60.

Heat comes and goes now as summer turns the page to September within hours from now.

I had a great week walking with the dogs because the weather was just wonderful, around 80 with breeze and I surely could wish that the next 9 days be the same. But life is what it is and some things are not important when we can do nothing about it at any rate.

However, my questions include many of the big issues that appear out of my control but in fact are partially my responsibility. I am overwhelmed by the number of serious global and humanitarian issues to choose from.

Getting older frees me from the rat race. It also invites me to address and include my life energy in areas that need us all if the planet and humanity is to survive its destructive consumption.

I visited Laguna Beach (I think); it's south of Huntington, right? A cousin lives there and for both trips I was initially committed to a nicotine anonymous board meeting or conference. If you are south you have that drought! The farmers are in a tizzy and it's crazy that folks are stocking up with bottled water out of need, which is wasteful and environmentally awful. People sure have challenges!

I heard Mark Ruffalo (actor/activist) on either Charlie Rose or Tavis Smiley talk about an initiative that began for NYS and then was created for all our country and is now being created for all countries to get off fossil fuel and into sustainable energy. AND that this is major job creation to shift our supply. This is the first promising thing I've heard since the 1960s when we woke to the global warming and contamination issues that weaken our planet. Those hippies saw the future but just didn''t know how to make the changes necessary. LOL

I'm sleep deprived, hence the chattiness. Have a good Saturday once you awaken,

Thanks for your name reason; that's cute!

I was just in California in April for two weeks, around the SF area from the wine country down to big sur, taking in the beauty and variety of your area. I did meet one of my friends from another Spark team for lunch in Monterey, which was delightful. I've only gotten to your state twice before in my life and most often remain on the east coast where I am.

I needed the beautiful and peaceful calm days away to honor a year since my last stroke. We walked everywhere and celebrated my hard work of recovering results. We put a few pictures on facebook.

We have lots of rain coming our way again so I better go walking right after some breakfast. I am very slow to get things accomplished by my former standards and get sad that my thinking stutters. The synapses often won't fire to connect my thoughts like a scratched record I suppose. Grateful for all the physical health I have regained, emotionally I am much more fragile.

Wild Jeanne is a joke between me and one of the other leaders here in this group. I am related to Wild Bill Hickok, so my friend named me Wild Jeanne, and she wanted me to put it on my page.
What did the specialist say? I hope it was good. When did you go to Calif? Not muggy here lol.
Hot though. At least where I live it is. No. Calif. is cooler.

emoticon Wild Jeanne? What's the story on that?
Good morning. It's been awhile. What goes with you these days? Seems I've only talked about myself.

How are things with me? The hot days are avoided and some of the time I can make my walk inside the mall amount enough steps for a day, but I so love outside when weather isn't hot/muggy. Unfortunately there are plenty which are.

I've helped a friend who was in an emergency move to get his stuff into storage so he could relocate. I will have to help him further because I have his car until he can drive again (longer story omitted).

My tenant remains and another chapter has begun with our arrangements. And today I check in with the specialist about my 14 month ago stroke, which I put off for months now. Did I write after going to California for a vacation? It was a wonderfully gentle time.

Here's to you and the hope we all have the health and vitality we want (and can emit!) emoticon

Thanks Haley,
I know that regardless of my age, experiences, and circumstances life keeps offering up choices with secondary agendas. I love both dogs but can't go away for part of this weekend like others are. One dog watched by a friend is easier to hook up, especially when the dog is an easily adaptive one. My tenant dog is so cool and lovable, but with too much fostering in his life, cannot sleep somewhere else without creating a rotten night's sleep for all. Maybe that's just one person's experience and I'm over thinking this.

......
on another note, the humidity broke and I forced myself to wake up really early in the hopes of walking this morning and "coming alive" from my foggy self. Healthy air is not taken for granted!

emoticon Hi there.
I have never come down the team page to discover this thread.
Because a friend in my Fine Tuning Challenge also belongs to this team, I decided to look around here.

On the topic of adopting second dogs, I am in a quandary.

I share my condo with a tenant and this one was permitted to come with a dog. I have my own maltese/bichon 10 lb boy, and I missed the paired interaction of having an extra pet around. My son's fabulous cat was here last year while he relocated.

Well, Matt brought his black 22 lb pug Oscar here, and he's swell. I have the second dog without the second expenses. Up until now, that is. Matt's lifestyle really prevents him from being a responsible and present dog owner even though he adores Oscar. Matt will be moving on in a matter of months. Without Oscar out of realistic practicality for the dog's welfare to have stable, quality care.

I said I'd adopt him but can't afford it either. And any freedom for me from the dog needs routine is easy to resolve for my little guy, but not when you have two.. I wish there was a foundation to provide funds for Oscar to remain in my permanent care, yet only fostering as a temporary placement might even have that. I don't know. It's a rough decision and I hope by the end of July that I know what I can do.

Hi All

Hello All.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day. Mine was quiet, got calls from my children and Mother-in-law. She lives in Mass. We get along really well. She is so wonderful.

Mushka was doing good yesterday until we got some thunderstorms. He is very afraid of them. I have to keep him on his walking leash because he tries to get behind stuff so that he can hide. I try to keep him comfortable and I give him extra love and attention. I have been doing this for a very long time. I try to get him so he won't be scared but it isn't working. I don't know what else to do for him. His eye is still the same. We haven't given him anymore eye drops and it doesn't seem to make any difference. Some days it isn't as red as others, but it hasn't gotten any worse which is good.

Georgine, It is good that Morgan can still act like a puppy. Mushka does it too. They look so cute when they act like that. It is too bad that Morgan is getting slower. I know that she is quite old, isn't she? It is good that you have her on some pain and anti inflammatory meds. I have Mushka on the one for his arthrits. It seems to help him some. I hope that you and Morgan can go for walks again.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I am keeping the used Dell computer that I was trying out over the weekend. It seems to work good and is an upgrade to the one that died. We are getting a good deal on it and our computer guy is letting us make payments on it. He is a great guy. It will be nice to have a computer that works better than the one you were using.

Our weather yesterday was good until the late afternoon when thunderstorms developed. They were the first of the year. We are suppose to be getting some more rain up until Thursday. I hope that it isn't too bad.

Hope everyone enjoys thier day.

Best wishes to all!

I will keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers

Hello All,

I am so sorry that I haven't been on more often. I hate to say that my computer is acting up. When it feels like it it will just shut off. It doesn't make a difference what I am doing. I have to save all my typing almost for every sentence that I type because if I don't then I lose everything that I was typing and it is making me really angry.

Right now we can't afford to buy another one or too put this one in the shop. I don't know what I am going to do. I will just have to take my chances and use it until it dies permanently. I also have been trying to save all my files off of it too. That is also giving me a hard time. It keeps giving me error messages. We are going to go and get a better CD that goes faster to see if that is the problem. I don't want to lose all my work that I have on this computer. This computer is really old, it is around 11 years old. We have practical rebuilt it with all of the repairs that we have done to it.

I will try to keep you all informed to what is going on. I might just be able to put up a blog or something.

My leg is still pretty sore/painful. I am wearing my compression stockings all the time. When I don't have them on my leg turns to a dark purple color. It really doesn't look good at all. I am going to call the Wound Center tomorrow and see what they say about it.

Hope everyone is doing ok, I wish that I could spend more time here with all of my wonderful friends that I miss so much.

Best wishes to you all.

Your Friend, Dot

Dog Walking, well, it is an expensive option in this area. But this is Main Line (of Philadelphia), so maybe other area are more normal, or reasonable. We have priced and used 3..2 agency and one freelancing, very business like kid,...they walk him for an hour each, one is $22, one is $24, and even the 12 yr.old on the next block is 15.00, plus she wants a guarantee of 4 walks a week, apox. 1 hr walk, for a prepaid $50.00...if we just get her every now and then she charges $15.00, and it is barely an hour! I would like to find someone, on a more casual, cheaper basis.

How is it in your area?

If it's to be, It's up to ME!

I am sometimes out of my house for 10/11 hours a day and am considering to hire a dog walker to let my dog out midday. I give him a 45 minute walk before and after I go to work and he isn't usually bursting to be let out when I get home. I make sure he pees and poos but he's always on my mind if it is too long of a time for him.

What do you all think? Does anyone have a dog walker? What the running price for a 15 minute stop by??

Hello All,

I am sorry that I can't stay and read all of the posts of my friends and see how their day is doing.

I am not feeling all that well myself today. I am having a upset stomach, headache, and a lot of pain. I think that weather has something to do with it. We are having rainy weather for about 6 days. I am not looking forward to that.

I have to go back to the Wound Center tomorrow. I am almost sure that it will be my last visit. Then I can concentrate on getting back to some kind of routine.

I want to thank all of you for being there when I need you. You all have really helped me through this very tough time. You are all so great.

I am going to go and lay down for a while and see if I can get to feel better. I just wanted you all to know that I was thinking about you all and was hoping that your day would be a good one.

I will be saying prayers for all the ones that are having a tough time. I am here for any one that needs to talk.

Hope you will enjoy your day.

Best wishes to all!

Hello All,

I know what you mean about keeping a dog's memory alive. They mean so much to us that when they go there is noway that you can forget about them. I have had a lot of dogs growing up. I use to bring stray dogs home to my mother. They would just follow me home from school. It didn't make a difference what I did to make them not follow me, they never would. My mother loved animals too, so most of them we ended up by keeping. We already had our male dog that we had since he was a baby. He was our protector. The police use to use him sometimes, because both of his parents were police dogs. It was only rare occasion though. He lived to be almost 17. It was really hard losing him. I cried for weeks. I have always had a big dog. Mostly Shepherds and huskies. One of my last dogs was a mixed breed, but he was my protector. He wouldn't let anyone that wasn't part of the family near me. He lived almost to 16. All of my dogs lived a log time. They never got cancer or any illness that I needed to have them put down.

We now have a Siberian Husky, named Mushka. We have had him from 4 weeks old. He is now going on 12. He too hasn't had any real bad illnesses. I am hoping that he will be able to go from natural causes too. I just get so attached to them, and it makes it really hard for me to have them go. I don't know if we will get another dog, we shall see.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Best wishes to all!

Hi folks,
Gina, your post about Hobo reminded me of a "desert dog" that shared our lives for about 7 years awhile back. A buddy of mine found about 6-7 pups that someone had abandoned out in the desert and brought them to his home. My daughter was about 2-3 at the time and my friend called us over to look at the puppies. My daughter immediately took a shine to one of them and we brought him home and named him Maxwell. He turned into a large chocolate lab mix and was my daughters protector and friend for the rest of his life. Eventually he got cancer and had to be put down. That was a sad time for everyone and we all miss him still, particularly my "little girl" who is now 16 and still does things like include his name in her username for our home computer. We kept him and Patches in a large fenced area with "my" dog "Patches" when we were not at home, and Maxwell would always find a way to get out of the fence, no matter how hard I tried to keep him confined. He never ran off, he'd just climb, or dig, or (some other way I'm sure I've yet to discover) his way out of the fence, then he'd sit beside the gate and wait for us to return. When the time came, I buried him right outside the gate, where he always waited for us. I couldn't stand the idea of burying him inside a yard he put so much energy into getting out of. Sadly, Patches is gone now too, old age finally overtook her, and she rests out on a little rise overlooking the spot we two spent many happy days hunting rabbits together. Now we're down to 1 dog, a wonderful Aussie mix who lives up to his name "Rascal" at every opportunity. He's also "my daughter's dog" but he loves everybody and I pray he's with us for a long time to come. They really are family.

[singing] Oh don't you remember sweet Betsy from Pike / Crossed the high mountains with her lover Ike / Two yoke of oxen and big yellow dog / Called Shanghai rooster and one spotted hog / Hoodle-dang-hootie-i-doh, hoodle-dang-hootie-ay, hoodle-dang-hootie-i-doh, hoodle-dang-hootie-ay / Shanghai ran off and the cattle all died / last piece of bacon that morning was fried...

Hello All,

Gina, Thank you so much for all the prayers and well wishes.

I did a blog today called, "Leg Update from Wound Center". If you would like you can go and read it. I hope that it is understandable. If you have any questions or just want to talk, let me know. I would be very happy to do that.

Hope everything is going ok with you.

Best wishes to you.

Hello All,

I just wanted to thank you so much for all the prayers and well wishes you have given me. I just got around to put up my blog about what has been going on. If you want to go and read it, it is called, "Dot's things that are happening! Health Issues!" Hopefully it will explain everything. I am very sorry that I can't stay on my computer for very long. I am still in a great deal of pain. Hopefully it will start to go away soon.

Hope is all well with you.

More on Hobo the desert dog. We found him about 5 wks ago now I think. He was a pitiful little guy with not much hair from the mange and an ugly little face because his mask was more pink than black or white also because of hair loss. The vet we took him to gave him some costly meds and his first shots all of which cost 1200 pesos (just under $100) and including the rental of a cage for 2 wks and some vitamins, and a bag of puppy food which lasted 4 wks. We have a scruffy looking old dog Badi whom slowly Hobo began to resemble (the scruffiness of dirt colored hair) Since then Hobo has had two more shots and regular shots all costing another 1000 pesos ($80) and I went to another vet and bought puppy chow while pricing a neutering. The original vet said 1200 pesos and I thought,"Holy Mother of God, it would be cheaper to have it done in Canada". The second vet, a very kindly soul with a hair lip and a good reputation said 300pesos. Now that I can handle. In the meantime Hobo is the goofiest little guy ever. I do not know how Badi puts up with him but all he ever does is show teeth when Hobo gnaws on his midriff, legs and has the grandest time ever with Badi's feather tail. It is just his favorite toy in the world. Lala, our foster dog, a little Mexican mix has snarled, bitten, threatened him to within an inch of his life and Hobo takes the attitude that she can't be serious, really? Walking the three of them together is an adventure and so far has gone well except for Lala getting very fed up. Hobo is chewing, gnawing and attacking everything imaginable including feet, legs, furniture, and all the toys we have bought him at the second hand store. He is slowly becoming a very beautiful dog as the hair grows in and his color is a warm brown with a gorgeous black mask on his face. I have tried to post pictures and this computer will not let me. I do know how and have sent pictures to people who give me their email address. Sorry about that! Also I will cause some envy among dog owners but he has never pooped in the house and rarely peed in it. He took to crate training like a duck to water.

Been following the saga of Hobo, Desert Dog. How's it going now? Training going well? emoticon Hope you can post Pictures.

Our biggest concern this week is the HIGH cost of Vet Care. We have our 27 yr.old daughter's, 2 yr. old pup. She has transferred out of state for her job. and he stayed with us...as he has been here since he was 8 weeks old. But Monday was his annual check-up, and booster shot. They tested a stool, urine, blood sample, and a booster shot...and it was $348.??...we expressed a shock at the cost, so they gave us a Senior Discount...down to $268. Then yesterday they called to say he had round worm!! And to pick up Rx for 3 days...at $20.00 a day..$60 dollars, discounted down to $54. Wondering if it is just our area, or are all Vet's so expensive? Our daughter sent us a check for re-imbursement, but now there is the Rx cost. The Vet did tell us to contact our Manufacturer of his Heartworm preventative, as that should have helped prevent this too, and that it's unusual that an older dog to get roundworm!?! So the whole thing is confusing and costly!
And today our car check-up and maintenance was over $350.00! Yikes! Turning into a BAD $$ week! emoticon that's our budget flying out the window! emoticon

Hello All,

I am so sorry Gin that it won't work. I don't know of anything else that it could be. Have you tried to download another picture to see if it would work for that one. Then if you can do that successfully then you might be able to figure out what the problem is. Hope that you will be able to do it,.

Hope that something will work.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

First of all it is windows 7and it is an IBM compatible laptop. It is a digital camera and Charlie says he used a JPeG format and I know it is filed in pictures. The routine for uploading it is the same I tried to follow and I have been able to use in the past. What happens is when a white hand comes up it contains a golden exclamation mark which means it will not work. Very frustrating!

Hello All,

Gina, on your computer are you using Windows XP or Windows 7? Is your computer a IBM Compatible Desk Top or an Apple, Macintosh? Do you have a file folder that is called Pictures? When you take a picture of your dog, I assume you are using a Digital Camera. Then you download it into your computer through the USB port that is designated for your camera. It should pop up a program that asks you where you want your picture to go, and maybe also, what format do you want it in. It is always best to put your picture as a Tiff or JPEG format. It should then be put into your Picture Folder.

When you come onto your SPage, you should see on the top right side the words, "Edit My Page". You want to click on that, then on the right side top, it should ask you to, "Edit Photo Gallery". That will bring you to your Photo Gallery. On the right top side it will say, "UPLOAD PHOTOS to my SP". After you have Uploaded a picture, you should go to the bottom of the page, on the left side and click on, "SAVE YOUR CHANGES" It is very important that you do that for every single photo that you Upload. If you don't do that step you will lose the photo that you just Uploaded.

I hope that this will help you get your photos onto your Photo Gallery. I really would like to see Hobo. If you have any trouble whatsoever, let me know and I will see if I can guide you better to get it accomplished.

I hope that you are having a good day.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

I tried so hard to post pictures of Hobo on my spark page and all the would come up was a white hand with a golden exclamation mark on it. No success with getting pictures onto my pg.

Thank you, I am pleased we did decide to keep this desert puppy, Hobo. He is quite a character, full of mischief and a sweet disposition. He has excellent self esteem and thinks everything belongs to him. I found him in Lala's bed tossing his frog(stuffed) around and I laughed so hard. He especially seems to enjoy harassing Badi our 11 yr. old with a feather tail and you can imagine that tail is the best toy ever. He is doing well with crate training as long as we follow these simple rules. 1. outside first thing after a while in the crate, 2.After he is inside the house for a little while he needs to be left outside for a while again. 3. If he eats or drinks inside he needs to go outside. Only 2 piddle accidents in 7 days and I think that was really our fault. I am going to try to post some pictures of him on my spark pg for anyone who wants to see what he looks like.

Hello All,

Gina, you are a very good person for taking this dog in and making sure that it is given the proper health medicines that it needs to get better. I am happy that you are crate training. It does work really well if you get him out in time to do his business outside. I crate trained our Siberian Husky when he was a puppy and he got it almost right off. He has never made a mess in the house. He is 11 years now.

I really hope that Hobo, what a fitting name, grows up to be a very healthy, happy dog. It is good that your other two dogs are getting along with him so good.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Best wishes to all!

I will keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers
