I have started to decorate for Christmas. I don't like a lot of clutter at any time of the year, but a little bit is OK if it's festive. I bought my cards last January and I'm ready to print labels and write a brief newsletter. I should have them in the mail by next Friday at the latest. I still have lots of wrapping paper, boxes, ribbons, etc. I'm not buying any new this year.

Enjoy your holidays, everyone!

as part of the november effort - i have dragged up the boxes, bags and containers of christmas decorations. i have hung the wreath on the door and this sunday since it is rather mild, all the lights will be put up -
i put the christmas music boxes and plants on display in the foyer
i will be a lot sparser with what does on the tree this year, and also when doing the stairway.
i will put candles and very little tinsel around the fireplace and a few little ceramic angels.
the rest is going to the good will - and when i put stuff away after the holidays, i will again thin out stuff.
i also found bags of wrapping, ribbons. bows etc - thank goodness i did not buy more. i even found a box of cards . i still send a few cards out - not as much since email but still a few for the people who are a long distance.
it feels good - maybe cause when we get older it is right to do all this - and not leave it for the people we leave behind.
so have a great holiday - pass it on for another generation to enjoy with their christmases to come.

Great link. Thanks.

I told my kids one year at Thanksgiving that they needed to donate some toys to the Salvation Army so that Santa would have room to leave them some new things. They were very happy to share, and years later they are still donating things they don't need instead of keeping clutter in their lives.

it is so hard to get out of the 'buy quantities on sale' mentality. this goes for food, household items, clothes etc.
i realize since i have had to put out beautiful clothing that no longer fits or not age appropriate, shoes which my arthritis dictates i will never be able to wear again - and throwing left overs in the garbage - much to my chagrin.
so - in november - i plan to tackle more of all my memorabilia - collections - etc. one thing that has me down is that no one really is interested in all the photos over the years - and i have mentioned before that for me 'it represents heritage and important people who have gone on' but to my children not so much.
in fact most of my generation either has the same type of photos or have themselves passed on. so what to do with all of that???
how has someone else who may have gone thru this handled it? please your response is so appreciated.
but i have learned my lesson - i buy only what i need - if i run out and it is not on sale - so be it. most of the time i have more than enough -
like coffee - we used to go thru so much more - but we don't now - it has taken me a couple of years to realize that - i had tins of coffee and spent money that was unnecessary to stock it- at least it did not go bad, and eventually it will be used up.
things like baking needs - no one wants sweets, will not take them home and then there is allergies all over the place. so i will pick one short bread recipe for the holidays and a pound cake - that's it.
so november is the month i will learn that holidays do not mean excesses of any kind - even decorating - i will be much more moderate - lights outside - half the amount - half the cost,
stuff inside - much much less - easier to take down and i have even made up my mind NOT TO KEEP everything from year to year. i am learning that the cheap stuff the dollar store serves the purpose and i can repurpose it by adorning boxes of gifts to give away.
simpler times - simpler minds.
it is amazing how much LIGHTER i feel when i divest myself - i never realized until recently how much all my STUFF takes out of me. about time i let some one else enjoy it.

Get Organized in November Checklist
___ Thanksgiving is the perfect time to send holiday cards. December tends to get super busy so think about sending your family holiday cards out in time for Thanksgiving and cross it off your list for December.

___ If you haven't already, get your winter clothes out of storage.

___ Set up a system for storing cold-weather gear like hats, mittens and scarves in your entry way for every day use.

___ If you're traveling in December, it's time to confirm your travel plans.
