In December I did catch up my journal, and did get the healthy plan in place albeit Jan. 1st.

For January, I'd want to finish painting the downstairs entrance. I did get one section all done by Dec. 30th but it's time to get the other half done and out of the way.

also.....want to try a new crochet project--a dog coat. If it goes well, will do some up for next year's craft sale.

Well, for November I got those walnut baskets done, but the water idea got washed away as usual.

For December I want to take more time to catch up in my journal and get a good healthy plan in place to get me through the winter. Fruit, vegetables and that darned water everyday, or at least most days of the week is the plan.

For November I want to make more walnut baskets for my craft sale at the end of the month. I also need to improve the water intake so that;s what I'm going to work on.

It's now officially the first day of Fall. So far my Sept. plans have run into a brick wall but it's never too late. I have a whole week plus 2 days to improve.
Today, I'm tracking my food and doing at least 5 minutes of stretches. I'll emoticon

Every 15 minutes counts Sara. Go for it!!!!

I need to prepare for winter starting today. Usually gain at least an extra 5 lbs. because of less walking and no gardening. If the sidewalks are too icy, I won't walk out there for fear of breaking something (been there, and done that).

So the plan for September is to put in a minimum of 10 minutes of yoga stretches per day on my daily planner to get a good habit started, and must do something about upping the water consumption consistently which I was good with for 2 weeks last month and faltered with the last two.

Will check in at the end of the week to record the week's progress for water and yoga stretches.
Week 1 not so good. 2 days of stretches and the water is at 2 to 3. emoticon

My challenge for July is to workout in the mornings like I did last summer. I had kept it up until April but fell totally off the fitness fun wagon and now am getting back up on it so that this habit will stay in place better come the fall.

My challenge for April is to get back down to the 197 lbs. I was at TOPS last summer. It's only 6 lbs from where I am now - I know I can do it!!!!!!! I am determined to try and stop the yo yo effect of up one week, down the next.

Hi Alicia,
It sounds like a good plan, and yes, you can do it!

April habit change for me: to drink lots of water every day. I'm not counting, just upping my water intake. I often choose tea instead of water because tea is hot and water is cold, and tend to feel cold.

April Challenge -

Well, now that the challenge is finishing up and I can get out of that awful High School group, I am focusing on what was working for me before the challenge. I was taking on everyone elses stuff and forgetting that I was doing pretty good by being vegan. So my challenge this month is to get back to MY basics and see the scale move out of 150-ville and into the 140-ville.

Okay, I have decided to revise my March challenge - habit change. Another habit change I have been trying to make is spend time everyday in meditation/ prayer, and also specific relaxation exercises. Find the time for these. So that is what I will make my habit change this month. I'll still be trying to do 5 and 10 minute walks, but the consistent change I am going for is prayer/mediation/relaxation.

Good for you, MaryBeth.

As for me, I am setting my March habit change. It is to exercise on a regular basis. I have hit a glitch here, but I plan to follow through. I have been going through some medical tests for the last month, and got some results today. So there is another one coming up in about 4 weeks, but as a result of the most recent result, the doctor has told me to "take it very easy" for the next month. Including not to exercise. I asked if I could walk - he said - a bit. And there is a whole bunch of stuff at work I can't do.

But if I can walk - a bit - I think I can still do the exercise. What I want to establish is the HABIT. And I initially had planned to do 10 minutes day - I think that that will be okay - but I will keep it to easy walking - and because it is not flat around where I live, I guess it will be indoor walking. But I will be establishing the habit.

So, March habit change - to get in the habit of exercising.

Dotz, thanks for letting us know (so we won't worry). You need to do what you need to do - go for it, but I will miss seeing you here.

Meanwhile I will keep trundling away with habit change it will be exercise in March, and a few more by the time you get back.

Take care, and all the best with all you are doing in your life.

Taking a break from team activity for a couple of months. All is well but have lots of work around the house on the horizon and won't have much time to participate. Still tracking, exercising and working on sleep issues and will continue to do so while absent.

Keep on Sparking everyone and will be in touch from time-to-time.

Really busy here this weekend with family birthdays and out of town son in town. I haven't tracked yesterday, but I will now - and I know I am way over for yesterday - so today time to get back on track. But I weighed in for this week - and I was down about half a pound - so tracking is still working!!!

Dotz, sorry that you have been having problems with sleeping, but really glad that that medication helped.

As for me, still tracking daily. This week is a challenge- we had pancakes at lunch for pancake Tuesday today. This week two grandchildren and one son (their father) have birthdays, and other son will be visiting, and we will be celebrating a work success with him, and that means eating out! eeek. But I WILL track it all.

Still journalling and exercising. I finally had to go to the drug store yesterday and do something about the chronic lack of sleep which has been just horrible the last few days. I bought ear plugs to drown out dh's constant chatter and some SleepMD which is supposed to be Canada's #1 selling non-prescription sleep aid. It worked like a charm and I got a great night's sleep last night and felt totally refreshed today.

My challenge right now is to arrange all the social outings with my clients and to try and keep track of everything I am doing with each individual and when. I have 3 clients that I work one-on-one with. They all like to go out a do stuff in the community. Can be a costly adventure at times but I guess there is the funding available to help us all out with this.

Dotz, good for you for all the exercise! That will be me in March - it's my next habit change. As for the sleep, have you ever tried listening to relaxation CDs? When I have trouble sleeping I do that, and over time you become conditioned (sort of like a lab rat) and are gone in 10 minutes.

As for the tracking, oh, Dotz, it IS working - down another lb this week! emoticon

WOW Irene, you are doing great with the tracking. emoticon

Marybeth, congrats to you too for managing some exercise even though you were hurting. The weather has been doing a number on me for the last few days as well. It has been very damp here which makes the cold air seem to seep right into your bones.

I've been doing well with the strength exercises and have been writing all my eats into a journal. Still having problems with sleep though. When I do manage to get to bed before midnight, I stay awake for a couple of hours thinking about everything in creation before sleep finally arrives. That challenge is ongoing for sure and is going to take some time.

Went to the exercise club today and did what I could. My lower back and right hip were really bothering me today. Must be a change in the weather pattern. I managed one round of the circuit, the 10 minute Tzone and 3 minutes on elliptical.

Not doing so great at exercising yet, but I'll keep trying to get at it. Getting some acupuncture treatments on my knees to hopefully help me to get pain free walking again.

I'm feeling a lot better - not 100% yet, but getting there, and am back at work.

I'm like both of you in regards to exercise. But I won't be making exercise my focus until March. Meanwhile I am doing 10 minutes of exercise a day (pathetic as that sounds) and walks sometimes. Dotz, it sounds like you are doing a lot with those strength exercises.

I still tracking.

I'm like you Marybeth. I move around lots during the day but still need structured exercise to keep up with consistency.

Irene, congrats on tracking even though you are under the weather.

Tonight I made sure that the strength exercises were done. Eventually, I'd like to do them at a set a.m. time but so far just getting them done on the scheduled day is all I can handle. A step at a time.

I think I will challenge myself to get more exercise this month. I know I move around a lot while at home and out and about, but need to make an effort to actually get out to the exercise club or go for walks.

I'm still tracking, even with this rotten cold I have picked up. It seems that every time I lose weight I get sick - which is frustrating. But I am not giving up. I am tracking my food and looking at the nutritional breakdown, and it is really healthy, so I just going to persist.

I think we have found our consistency, Dotz. :-)

I got through another week doing all the strength exercises plus extra, and have been getting to bed by or before midnight all this week. Next week I'll continue on the same.

Tracking is working! I weighed myself today and am 4 lbs less since I started (it doesn't show on my tracker totally, since I was OVER my starting weight!)

Excellent job Marybeth and Irene. You ladies have done well today. Keep it going girls.

As for me, I got to bed at 11:30 last night and it took an hour before the sandman came but at least I wasn't going to bed at 2 falling asleep by 3 a.m. Getting to bed before midnight again tonight. Got my exercises done for today too.
Shutting down the computer in 10 minutes and will read for an hour.

I actually got to the exercise club today. Did 2 rounds of the circuit, 10 minutes on the Tzone vibrating machine, and 2 minutes on the elliptical. yea for me. I hope to get exercising a little bit more during the month of February.

Yeah, MaryBeth! - keep going in that direction.

Dotz - sounds like a good plan - and yes, I convinced we CAN be consistent. I really like your new positive approach, although I have to say, in what you write, you are always very positive and encouraging.

As for me, tracked again today. Whew it takes a while, but I was adding new groupings. But I am determined! This was how I lost weight when I first came to sparks - and I can do it again!

Marybeth and Irene, we'll get there step by step as long as we stick to it.

I've been thinking of what I'll do for February's challenge and have made my decision.
First, as you've probably noticed, I've changed my name to something more positive. Keeping late hours like I do is not healthy so I don't want to be reminded having a name with night in it.

For February my challenge is consistency. I'm going to keep up with the strength exercises every Monday, Wednesday and Friday that I started two weeks ago, and make bedtime no later than midnight. This 1, 2 or 3 a.m. stuff has got to go. It keeps the weight on. I set midnight as lights out for starters and want to gradually back that time up so that by the end of the month I'm in bed by 11:30. March's challenge will be for my final goal of 11 p.m. which is a decent time for me.

I'm all set and ready to roll with a brand new month. How about you team?

MaryBeth and Dotz, it sounds like we are all in the same place. Except when I was back in Ontario for my parents anniversary and over Christmas, I gained 8-10 lbs. How could i?? So now I am at my highest ever. I cannot afford to keep playing with those 2 lbs.

So today and yesterday I have achieved my goal of tracking (and keeping within my points). Boy, it sure does take a long time, but I am hoping that this is what will make the difference.

I can relate to you ladies. I go up and down all the time too. I still struggle to be under 200 lbs. My goal for February is to try and get down to 195. I have a long ways to go to reach my lowest goal, but I suppose when the time is right, the weight will come off.

Welcome to my world Irene. I've played with these few pounds for "years". I go down 2, then up 1, then down 2 and up 2 etc. My goal is to get under that blasted 160 lbs. and maintain it before moving "down" (not up). Sheesh! It's not as though I have 100 lbs. to loose. Maybe that's the problem. The closer to goal, the more complacent I get. My overall plan for this year is to reach that goal weight of 150 and stay there but to get to that point I need small "consistent" challenges that stick.

We've got our road ahead of us Irene, and we can do it.

Dorothy, I am VERY frustrated. I did my weigh in today and I am up two pounds this week! I know that I also need to focus on exercise, but I really have found that I can only focus on one thing at a time. So I will try to up my exercise this week, but focus on tracking my eating - and altering it. While also keeping eating lots of vegies. :-)

But good for you for the exercise - you get way more than I do.

You and I are two peas in a pod Irene. Improving the eating and exercise but not losing weight.
I got the Wed. strength exercises done but Friday fell by the wayside although I did get 90 minutes of cardio. I will do those strength ones today though to ensure that I'm caught up for the week.

Like you, I should concentrate on "one" health challenge for February. I'd also like to do a project challenge as well. Will decide on Monday what they will be.

Consistency is an issue for me too Dorothy. Actually that's probably what brings most of us to spark.

Anyway, I believe that I decided to focus on only one challenge a month - trying to change a habit a month. The one for January was eating more fruit and vegies, and I think that I was pretty successful in that. I still find it easier to eat fruit (less prep) but I am getting better at consistently eating both fruit and veg. And I need to continue being conscious of this focus.

However, even though I have vastly improved my eating, I am not losing weight - some weeks even gained!!!! So I think that I need to do spark tracking again, so that I can also track calories. So I have started doing that today, and will make it my challenge for February - to make this a new habit.

I CAN do this. 12 months, 12 habits changed.

The month is almost over and 2 out of the 3 items I listed are moving along. I've put 2 coats of primer on the table and it's ready for 1 to 2 coats of paint today which should finish that job. I'll finish off the paint job on the lower entrance by the end of the week.

The challenge of keeping water by my bedside to drink instead of looking for a midnight snack still needs work but has greatly improved.

Getting the strength exercises in has been hit and miss, mostly miss. Consistency has always been such a problem area for me with those blasted exercises. I keep telling myself that I can set up and do this on my own and it always falls by the wayside. Today, I've selected the option for SP to choose my full body workout on my tracker for Monday, Wednesday and Friday which means today is day #1 and it must be done. Time for this Night-Owl to go to bed now as it's after 1 a.m. but when I get up, those exercises are my #1 priority. It only takes 10 to 15 minutes so there really is no excuse to keep ignore them.

This needs to be a challenge that I take into February for sure.

I've finished up a couple of projects, just not the ones I've listed here.
Missed a few nights with the water but will make sure I get back on that tonight.
It's hit and miss with the exercise band but do walk every day for a minimum of 30 minutes (usually 45 to 1 hour).

Getting there.

My challenge for this month of January will be..........

Put a glass of water on my night-table and drink some of that when I wake up during the night rather than a trip to the fridge or cupboard for something sweet.

Blow the dust off the exercise band and start improving my muscle power.

Finish up the last 2 painting projects still hanging around since December.

That should keep me busy for the month.

Well, I got the china cabinet and the silver all clean for Christmas, and painted touchups and trim on the upstairs entryway. Going to steam clean the carpet on the landing and stairs tomorrow and start putting the Christmas decorations out.

Good luck on those final tests Marybeth. I bet you will be glad when they're finished.

I'm getting geared up for December challenges. I want to paint the entranceway and have a handyman coming in tomorrow to do the ceiling and tall walls over the stairs. I've finally retired from going up on high ladders. It's just not worth the risk of falling and breaking something. I'll do all the rest (regular height walls). That job should be done by this week-end.

The next thing will be cleaning the china cabinet and decorating for Christmas.

And finally, continue on during December with getting an adequate amount of fruit and veggies everyday.

Hi Ladies,

Talk soon. All the best with your goals this month.

MaryBeth, love the 3 generations photo.

And musical talent and ability - those are wonderful things to have!

As for my crafts, be aware it is only VERY simple knitting I do (and no crochet) - but I do enjoy it.

The scarf is coming along.

Good for you Irene that you can make homemade gifts. I don't knit or crochet. I have musical talent instead. My creative challenge in the next couple of weeks is to create a brochure based on the short proposal I made up (got 100% on it - yea for me), then I have to do a power point presentation and present it to the class on Nov 29th. I love the challenges but sometimes stress myself out trying to perfect things and get done on time.

Hi MaryBeth - lots of grandchildren you have! And I know that that test went well - I think that I saw that on the daily gratefuls.

As for me, I don't see the creative thread, so I am putting my creative challenge here. I have been to Michaels and got some wool on sale. The Christmas knitting is starting! One very long scarf for one of my dils and a number of toques for son (he asked) and his stepsons.

Good for you Irene. Enjoy your time with the grandkids.
I have just returned home today from my daughters. It was a challenging and fun week. Really tough getting through those sleepless nights with an infant. Glad I was there to help my daughter. Her patience really runs thin.
So Ava is #3 grandchild for me and we also have a step grandson (teenager). My son's 2 children are 8 and 4 yrs (boy and girl) - so we have two of each - interesting that I had 2 children, one of each and that both my children have two, one of each sex. Guess that 2 is our lucky number.
My challenge this weekend is to get some studying done for a test at school on Tuesday, also have a project due so I need to get it all typed out and sent. For now I am trying to catch up on all my Sparking and other emails.

Good day all on this thread. I have been concentrating on the weekly thread for eating and exercise. But I thought I would check in here for the other stuff. Dorothy, you are being very productive -as always!

This is the beginning of my weekend and we are looking after grandkids tonight (and tomorrow night). My goal today is to go through a box of assorted papers that has been accumulating for months, and sort them out and file them. I really need to get this done.

..... added later. I got the papers sorted and filed. Whoo Hoo! I have some more still to do, but not so important ones. This is a good start!

Yesterday I walked for an hour and started the fall garden cleanup for another hour. I have two big bins of yard waste to be picked up on collection day.

Both yesterday and today I took vitamins and tracked on the SP tracker as well as writing in a journal. I've had a 2 lb. gain since the 1st week of October and need to buckle down and get it off. Tonight I will clean the silver that was in the china cabinet. Cleaned 1/2 the cabinet today and will do the last half tomorrow. I'm starting the inside fall cleaning that I do each year before Christmas. Still have lots outside to do yet too.

My challenge yesterday was to get to Cambridge on time for the delivery of a beautiful granddaughter. It was a week early so I had to change my schedule in a hurry. she was born at 10:04 pm Oct. 20th weighing 7 lb 14 oz. Mother did very well with the labour and delivery.
I am not sure how many days I will be staying to help out. emoticon

I know what you mean Marybeth. One of dh's friends offers to take him off my hands for a few hours every so often so I can get some work done in peace and quiet.

I see that you girls have been cleaning up cell phones and e-mail. I was at a volunteer workshop, and also a 2 day course at the Centre called 55 Drive Alive. It was a brush up course on driving and rules of the road etc. with a quiz at the end. I'll receive a certificate next week. Had my driver's licence since I was a teen and it never hurts to brush up on rules etc.

Taking dh for blood tests today, then to the pension office and a Friday treat of a lunch/dinner afterwards.

Put winter fertilizer on the front and back lawn on Wednesday before the downpour started. Still have lots to do in the backyard cleaning up the garden shed, pulling out old plants, wrapping trees etc. The rain has held me up but today it will be cloudy only so will get out there to do something. It's very wet out there but can do some work on the patio were it's drier.

I got the freezer defrosted today. There was a lot of ice built up so it took a long time. Amazing how much I can accomplish at home when my husband is away.

Sounds like things are coming together for you. You get to lay out the plan, and set it in motion.

Today I did my 45 minute morning routine, my legs still swell, my ankles too.
I have an appointment with my acupuncturist on Thursday morning and hope she can help get rid of the swelling. The last 2 treatments helped so much...aftrer each one, the swelling got less and less.

Going down to 0C tonight and calling for sleet and maybe wet snow.

Today was my school day. I am working on putting together a 'short proposal' as the next assignment. After that our next assignment is to create a brochure to help promote the program we are proposing. Wow, I have my hands full.

That is quite a job MaryBeth. When i got a new cell phone I had to transfer names, addresses, phone numbers, e-mails, and other information. Some of what i needed was on my card and other info was on the phone.

Getting that straightened out was difficult. Had to write info, delete from that area then re-enter it where I needed it to be. Very time consuming.

Good luck on getting it all worked out.

Today I have chosen to start organizing my email address list. Have made some group folders and am transferring email addresses over to them. Then my general list won't look so overwhelming. I guess I really do know a lot of people. This does appear to be time consuming though cause I have to re-enter the info into the new folder in order for it not to appear on the general list and then go a delete off the general list. Took a while for me to actually figure out the way to do what I wanted to do with all these names.

K and I went to the show to see the "Ides of March" with George Clooney. Enjoyed the movie, about politics and cut throat tactics among the workers. It was nice to get out for a few hours.

We have had 2 1/2 days of rain....some downpours and others like a heavy mist to steady rain. The sun is still quite warm; when your not in the wind. The wind sends chills through the body and very cold. It looks like we will have more damp and cold weather for the next few days.

Went to a health fair today and got some interesting information. I played organ this evening at church and had a children's choir sing some songs. I was proud of them - the group's first performance for the year. Was gonna go to a concert tonight but it was sold out so I guess I will try to work on my school assignment for a while.
