I think I sent it through the email. It is 3 pts for every 30 minutes of reading a JE book. There is no point limit anymore.

Please do not post in this thread. If you have a question or comment, please email me or post it in our current destination thread. Thank you.

Here are the new categories and points values for the upcoming portions of the challenge.

1 point per minute of exercise (This will include strength training, cardio, yoga, pilates, and any exercise you can track here on Spark People.) You can, however, only earn 120 points per day in this category.

1 point per 8 ounce glass of water you drink (I am lowering the minimum required to 5 glasses per day)

1 point per freggie serving you eat (or drink) (I am also lowering this minimum required to 3 servings per day)

2 points per 10 minutes of reading health related information (articles, books, blogs, pamphlets, etc.)

We will still have the Ongoing Challenge Thread. For each challenge you complete and post that it is completed and post a new challenge, you earn 5 points. I check this thread before I total the teams' points; so if you post that you earned points in this category but I don't see any posts from you in that thread, then I do not add them to your team's total.

5 points for tracking and/or journaling about your food intake for the day here on Spark People. (You can do both, but you will only earn 5 points per day)

5 points for tracking and/or journaling about your exercise for the day. (You can do both, but you will only earn 5 points per day)

5 points per 15 minutes of organizing or tossing junk (Maximum of 20 points possible per day)

5 points for posting a blog per day

2 points per page post, email sent, or spark goodie given to people participating in the challenge (Maximum of 20 points possible per day)

1 point per page post, email sent, or spark goodie given to other Janet Evanovich and Stephanie Plum team members not participating in the challenge (Maximum of 10 points per day)

1 point per healthy snack or meal you make (you do not have to follow a recipe) (Maximum of 5 points possible per day)

5 points for huddling on the team page with a max of 5 points possible per day

5 points for reading a Janet Evanovich book for 30 minutes (Maximum of 10 points per day)

5 points for completing your personal daily goal (This is whatever goal you choose to make your daily goal for the challenge. You can change it each time we head out for a new destination, or you can keep it the same.) I am going to start a new thread category for you all to post what your challenge will be. I will post mine first, so that you can have an idea of what I am talking about.

There will be a maximum of 200 points possible per person per day.

How are points tallied? Is there somewhere that we post the points we have earned?

Another thing... I hope no one take offense, but could you have a thread with the Challenge Information on which no one posts comments. It is really hard to sort through all the post to find information! Thanks!

Kacey,

Thanks for the questions and letting me know about your upcoming procedure.

I am going to let everyone use their best judgement on the healthy meal or snack. One reason I did this is because I make a smoothie most days of the week, but I don't follow a recipe. I use healthy ingredients though, so I would like to be able to earn points for making it. I didn't feel like I could earn those points the way I had it worded before. We should all know what would be considered healthy and not so healthy. For example, last night we had country fried steak, mashed potatoes, and gravy for dinner. I also made a salad for myself so that I could earn the points in the freggie category. The salad was healthy, but the rest of the meal was not. I would not give myself points for that meal. I would however give myself points for the smoothie that I made for lunch. I also put a points limit on this category.

I do want to leave the organizing category the way it is. This category was a suggestion from another participant. I know we won't all do that every day, but I feel we have so many other categories that we can choose from to earn points each day. Also, I have heard (and probably read here on Spark People) that organizing and decluttering can actually help our health.

We don't have to earn points in each category every day. We can pick and choose what we would like to earn points for. I also put a daily points limit and some category points limits per person, so that we can hopefully keep the challenge more exciting while competing to reach the next location. I usually take 2 days off from cardio each week. I may not reach the daily limit of 200 points on those days or any other day, but I have more options to choose from for earning points. I also wanted to add something Janet Evanovich related, since that is the purpose of this team. I may add other categories related to that in the future.

Again, if you all have ideas on other ways to earn points please make suggestions.

Connie

I like the changes. Three things though
1) I have a surgical procedure coming on May 31st so will be about 2-3 weeks before I can exercise again.
2) How do we define a meal/snack as healthy? Is it under so many calories, or by what ingredients we put in it, or by amount of nutrient content?
3)Not everyone is going to be organizing and throwing out things every day, except regular garbage. Could something else be put in its place, like, Did a put off chore today?

Sorry to say I have to take a trip to WI. That is not in Paris. Wish I could stay longer with y'all but my older sis needs company and a little help. I'll join up with you June 2nd or shortly after when I get home. Thanks for understanding.

I will be checking SP but I'm just not sure how much tracking I can do.

See you in June.

We are going to be changing things up for the upcoming portions of the challenge. We do need to find another person to participate, as Fran has decided not to continue with the challenge due to her upcoming vacation. Let's all join together to see if we can get some more people to participate.

I think I am going to change the teams again. I'm still trying to make sure that the teams are pretty even. That will add even more of a challenge. I will send out an email before the next portion starts to let you all know what team you are on. Also, we may have to change the teams from time to time or postpone the challenge for short periods of time over the summer to work around vacations.

I may add more categories in the next few days. I will just edit this post if I do.

I hope this will give us some new and fresh ways to earn points. If you have any ideas, please email me and I will consider them.

Connie

You are right. No max on any category. There are minimums on some thougth: minimum of 15 minutes on cardio, yoga, or pilates; minimum of 10 for strength training; minimum of 8 - 8 oz glasses of water; and minimum of 5 servings of freggies (fruits and/or veggies). You receive one point per min or serving in these categories, you just have to at least do the minimum. If you have any other questions, just let me know.

Never mind. I think I figured it out. There is no limit on points you can earn on each item accomplished.

This challenge will begin April 1, 2013! The purpose of this challenge is to get and/or keep us active both physically and with this team. I hope that even if you don't join the challenge initially, you will join it at some point.

I will send out an email no later than Sunday evening with a list of the teams and their members. I am unable to delete previous threads in this forum, so please check your emails from this team so you know which threads to post your activity and points in each day. I will create a new thread for each destination.

This challenge is based on a challenge I have participated in before. Some of you may have also participated in a similar challenge. You will see some similarities and some differences, as I do not remember all of the specifics. If you have any suggestions, please send me an email. The goal of this challenge is to keep us active and healthy.

The challenge will go as follows. We will "depart" St. Louis on Monday, April 1, 2013. Our first destination will be England. Each team will have to "travel" 4200 miles. You will "travel" by exercising, getting your daily freggies (5 servings of fruits and vegetables), drinking 8 cups of water, supporting teammates, etc.. After all teams reach that destination, we will choose a new destination and compete as teams to reach the new goal (The new mileage will be from the previous destination to the new one). Some destinations may take one to two weeks to reach, while others may only take a day or two. It will all depend on how many miles between destinations and how many points each of you earns each day. The first team to reach the destination will be declared the winners for that portion of the challenge, but that part of the challenge will continue until all teams have "arrived." For example, Team Stephanie may arrive first, but travel to the next destination will not begin until the day after Teams Ranger and Morelli have arrived. If there is anywhere in particular that you would like to "travel", let me know.

Since there is no clear end to this challenge, once the first team has reached a destination I will send out a new email to all the members of the Janet Evanovich and Stephanie Plum team to see if anyone would like to join in. If new team members choose to join, I will post the changes to the teams and/or create a new team as needed. This way if some of you are unable to join initially, you will always have the opportunity to join later.

Below I have given an example of how to post your points each day. Some of the categories have a minimum time or number that you must meet to earn any points for that particular category. Also, yoga and pilates have their own catagory. Please make sure that you list the name of your team, so that points will be added correctly. The items listed are those activities and their daily points values that you will use as mileage to reach your destination. Please try to post your totals daily, but if your schedule does not permit that or you miss a day catch up as soon as you can. If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Team Morelli - Monday April 1, 2013
Cardio (2 pts per minute, with a minimum of 15 minutes): 80 points
Strength Training (2 pts per minute, with a minimum of 10 minutes): 40 points
Yoga or Pilates (2 pts per minute, with a minimum of 15 minutes): 30 points
5 Servings of Freggies ( 1 pt per serving with a minimum of 5 servings): 6 points
8 - 8oz glasses of water ( 1 pt per serving, with a minimum of 8 servings): 10 points
Posting on a teammates page or sending them an email (1 point per post or email): 2 points
Giving a spark goodie to anyone participating in this challenge (1 point per sg): 3 points
Reading a healthy article (does not have to be from Sparkpeople - 2 points per article): 2 pts
Making a healthy recipe (does not have to be from sparkpeople) (2 points per recipe): 4 pts (I used one for breakfast and one for dinner)
Ongoing Challenge (5 pts per challenge completed): 5pts
Total points for today: 180 points

Please note, while you do need to do a minimum of 15 minutes cardio to earn any points for your team, you do not have to do all of your cardio at once. You just need to do a minimum of 15 minutes that day. You may do three 10 minute sessions and earn 60 points for your team; however, if you only do a total of 10 minutes that day, you will not earn any points in that category.

We also have an Ongoing Challenge that you can participate in to earn points. It is one of the threads within this forum. It works like this: We will start with the most recent challenge posted as of April 1. This challenge can cover anything (exercise, nutrition, or activity such as sending a spark goodie). Anyone can complete the challenge, but the only person to recieve credit for that challenge will be the person who completes it and posts a new challenge. You can complete as many challenges as you want per day, but you may not complete a challenge that you post. If you have any questions about this, you may want to go the Ongoing Challenge thread and look at past posts. This should clear up any questions; but if you still have questions, please send me an email. Sometimes my instructions are as clear as mud! An example post would be if I posted "Completed 20 Jumping Jacks. Send a spark goodie to a teammate. Go!" I would not be able to send a spark goodie and receive points for this challenge, but THEREALWITCHYG could complete it and would get 5 points for her team. Her post might then look like this: "Sent a spark goodie to a teammate. Do 15 push-ups. Go!" I would then be able to complete and receive points for this post.

Each morning I will total up each teams mileage and add it to the previous total. I will then post how far each team has "travelled" and how much further they have to go to reach the destination.

I want this challenge to be fun while helping you reach your goals. I don't want any of you to be overwhelmed. Please participate as you can. I do not want anyone to feel like they have to complete every activity every day; however, you should be challenging yourselves. For example, I do cardio and strength training several days per week and I want to continue to do so. Strength training is usually something that I do for a few weeks and then quit. I hope this challenge will help me stick with it. Also, I usually get my water each day, but don't always get my 5 freggie servings. I also have not been as active on SparkPeople. Those would therefore be a challenge for me.

If you have any questions, please send me an email. Thank you.

Good Luck to all of you!

Connie
