Those workouts are hard, coach Nicole has been doing them for years as a trainer, we shouldn't feel bad about being breathless and out of shape. We will get there if we don't give up and keep trying. The only thing that can get in our way is US!

It is amazing these video are so challenging when Coach Nicole does it all so easily. I am a senior citizen and my balance and coordination is not great. Do the best I can and do feel great afterwards.

I am a UWT member too! I am doing the exercises with a huge boot up to my knee on my right leg. (Recovering from a broken fibula)
Hopefully, the DR. will release me from the boot on Monday!

Sometimes the weight gain is due to water retention because as your muscles repair the damage done to them during exercise they retain water to cushion the sore muscles.
Here is an explanation

I have also gained weight since on this challenge; and it's not because I'm eating more, because I'm actually eating less, I've reduced my sodium by a lot, and I'm drinking plenty of water. Someone said muscle weighs more than fat, so a small weight gain is not a bad thing, but come on, can my body build muscle that fast? In only a few days?

For all of you others who have found you gained initially, instead of lost--you are not alone!! This happens to me every time I start a new diet and exercise routine. There's something about my body that just does not want to let go of the weight, at first. But we all must just stick it out for the long term and have the determination to get us through. If I haven't lost anything after a month, (which I know I will) then it's time to go see a doctor. emoticon

I am so glad I'm not alone! I posted that I was ready to die yesterday after the 8 minute video. I was seriously winded and I couldn't do the jumps either.
But, we did the video and THAT is what is important

Thanks everyone, for all the support and the suggestions. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I think perhaps the problem is that I do exercise better to music, than listening to an instructor; because when I do it to music, it feels like I'm dancing, no matter what I do. So today, I dance-walked for 45 minutes as my cardio, and now I'll try a video, but I think I'll play some music in the background, which seems to lift my mood. Otherwise I think too much about how out of shape I've allowed myself to get, and I get discouraged.

If only I may grow firmer, simpler, quieter, stronger.

These videos are not all easy. But what is important is not if we do them perfect, but that we are actually getting through them and trying our best. Wishing everyone much success with the jump start challenge! Great job everyone! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

the whole program is geared to baby steps. modify what you have to on each video / workout / exercise, make it work for you but if you have not done anything for a while "expect' some discomfort especially for a day or 2 after but it should not deter you from moving forward.

when you come back to the same video 3-4-5 weeks from not realize how far you have progressed, if you do not push things to the edge you may never realize your capabilities. rock on kids you can do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As others have mentioned - there are alternate cardio videos (including several seated videos) and a whole team devoted to chair exercise. You do what your body allows.

(I also took the video low impact and might substitute the cardio kickboxing one on subsequent weeks instead).

Yes, well I also joined the Winter Wellness 30 day challenge, and the video there had me stepping back and forth over a piece of tape (I used the cane I used after my last surgery instead) and I found that to be less intimidating, and easier to modify without feeling like a total loser--although being a loser on a weight loss program isn't a bad thing, I suppose. (Yuk yuk!)

As long as you are doing some sort of cardio you do not have to do exactly what Coach Nicole is doing. She does say during her videos that you can do a gentler accommodation if you can not do her more strenuous moves. That is why when she is doing jumping jacks and lunges I revert to Leslie Sansone. I get a better workout doing that then doing the one legged jumping jack that Coach Nicole suggests we do.

Leslie Sansone is more my speed too--she gets you moving without encouraging me to do things that I know will injure my knees, feet, or hips. I wish they had another set of videos for people who are partially disabled, have had surgery, or haven't been exercising for a long time. When I watch Coach Nicole, it reminds me of me--thirty-five years ago. I don't think you can do a one-size fits all video, so there should be different videos, for beginners, intermediates, and already-in-pretty-good-shapers. I find it frustrating to not be able to do half the stuff on the video, and having to modify it to the point of almost ignoring the video and doing my own thing. Too bad we can't get credit for Leslie Sansone's videos instead of Coach Nicole's. I'm afraid I'm going to get injured trying to follow her videos.

Great point mennoly!!! As long as we're moving we'll see results. The day one video tweaked my knees too so I had to slow it down. But we did it!

I am supposed to do a long run today, hope I have enough in the holster to do the video too. Good luck team, we got this!!!

I don't expect that I will ever be able to do the first video at the intensity Coach Nicole does. I have knee issues and can not do squats or jumping jacks. So I modify that part of the video to something I can do borrowing heavily from Leslie Sansone whose programs are more suited to me. It is still cardio so I will be fine. I also did todays video after doing Leslie's 2 mile walk so I am covered. If you can't do the intensity just exercise a little longer and you will still get results. Listen to your body. I am having to start over because I got hurt last year and had a difficult time getting back to exercise after surgery. emoticon

You are not alone. Do you feel the love? :-) I do a lot of walking, I'm back doing strength training, and for 6 or 7 months of the year I do water aerobics. But these workouts are a challenge to me too. So I am doing what I can, knowing that just by doing the videos, I will improve. And I have a lot of room for improvement!

Absolutely. I am having the same problems. It's been far too long since I have put much effort into physical activity--embarrassing, I say, but I got through it as well and I vow to keep going. I think it'll get a tiny bit easier each day. One day at a time.... emoticon

Me too! UWT! I am happy to do my workouts where no one can see me, otherwise someone would surely decide to tape it and make me a YouTube sensation for my uncoordinated moves, but I did it! Put me on that Uncoordinated Wuss Team! I had to laugh at myself afterward, because these short videos of Coach Nicole's are kicking my butt. Just ten years ago I was active duty Army, running obstacle courses and ten-mile runs, lol. Now hopping around in my living room is too difficult!
we'll get there, and even if we don't, we'll be better off than we are now.

I'm up to being part of the UWT (Uncoordinated Wuss Team). I have pain in my hips, legs, and feet, due to some surgeries and health problems, but in the long run, exercise and movement will improve my health and supposedly lessen the pain (I'll believe that when and if it happens). I started out slow yesterday, with twenty minutes of walking and video 1, because I have a tendency to overdo, get injured, and then fall off the exercise train, so I'm just taking it step by step.

I'm going to start wearing a pedometer and increase my steps to between 10,000 and 15,000, which is what I was doing before my foot surgery in 2013. I am also going to do those videos, at my own pace--I can't jump, and probably never will, since I've also had surgery on my knee from damage I did to it when I was in my twenties and trying to play basketball and run ten miles a day. Should have stuck to power walking--I don't have good feet for running or good knees for basketball. The mind was willing, but the body, not so much.

So, whatever your level, let's just keep moving and keeping exercise as a daily companion. It's a new year, and a new day!

Did my strength training workout but am going to hold off on cardio today. Was supposed to run our annual New Years Eve 5k today but have pulled/strained something in my calf! Ahhhh...I have never had a calf issue before. My legs are usually so strong! So might have to stop cardio for a few days. But if that is going to set me back with the challenge I will just start over. Boo!

Maybe that should be our team name: The uncoordinated wuss team! That was it exactly! Elbow to knee, left leg up right arm up, plank with one leg raised...coordination issues! I was on treadmill before I did videos...as long as I stay tethered to machine I am okay (meaning once I actually walked off the thing...LOL) Step classes at the Y found me on the floor Missed the step Laugh again. Fortunately I was mostly much older than the others in the step class sometimes age is a good excuse emoticon

Yup...I say you are doing great MBV!! I did the same workout and was huffing and puffing also. I am one of the most uncoordinated people out there (this is why I jog...run in straight line works for me)! But like you all, I did it! Keep at it!

I can't jump anymore on the ground. I need the rebounder to protect my knees. It's smart training.

If it is going to be it is up to me !!!

Of course you're not a wuss! Jumping can be tricky - it sounds like you're doing exactly what you're supposed to. Modify the jumping to the level where you can do it - maybe one day you can do the full jump, and maybe you won't, but the main thing is that you're moving. And good job!

I have to modify any jumping movements. My knees can't take it! I would not feel like a failure if I could not do everything! do what you can!

Even if you were not able to do everything in the video: you did it at your level and pace. emoticon Keep doing it and when you get to a point that it is easy you will be amazed at the fact that it did not take as long as you think it will. emoticon

You're up and moving! That's what's important! Do everything you can, but don't hurt yourself. You'll be surprised at how quickly you improve. emoticon
