So, I started week 1 today and just finished with the workout. It was pretty good and I was able to keep up. Who knew 10 minutes could work up a sweat?! It will be more of a challenge to get the 30 minutes of cardio a day in on the days I work, but I certainly am going to try!!! DH has been good about encouraging me to go to the gym by coming with, and that certainly helps. But I think a few of the days I will just have to go for a walk/jog from the house. I think that will work pretty good. Anyway, looking forward to seeing some changes in my body both in how it looks and how it feels!

NIAGCHRIS246 - well done! That's really great news! I hope it helps to motivate you even more!

Good luck with your journey!

I'm currently hoping that the weather will change a little. We were hoping to have some friends over for a bbq but it's pouring with rain. I hope we can change the date to tomorrow (we have a public holiday in BC) when it's supposed to be dryer.

I still have my day 6 video to do... I'm a little sore from yesterday but I fudged it too, so I am not as sore as I should be! That one was tough!

So after two weeks of head, nose and throat misery I have started week 2! Better late than never! I also began testing my sugar again, which I haven't done for months and I got a great suprise! My post-breakfast number was 112! This great for me, I haven't seen anything under 200 in the two years since I was diagnosed. I'm very happy right now!

Also went out and pulled weeds for half an hour. It may not count as aerobic or strength training but it was a good stretch! emoticon

I love the beach and am taking the girls this evening. Believe me I am far far from anything close to a beach body and it is a far dream to imagine a size 8 or 10 but I have learned that while loosing the weight I can't stop loving the life. Go enjoy the beach, I have girls also, a 2 year old and a 9 year old so as much as I would at times like to remain incognito while enjoying the beach they make me get up and at times run (chasing after them that is). Where a sarong if you must but enjoy the beauty that we all are at every size.

My goal is to keep going and get fit with a consistent work out, even if ten minutes is all I have. I have been using a 20 minute workout video and I fudged on doing it yesterday ( or working out at all for that matter) so today is my Day #1.

Yes, I vaguely remember the beach... this summer is taking it's time to appear in British Columbia!

The recumbent bike works well - and I don't get a numb bum! It's great as I can read or watch TV when I use it. It's good for calorie burning and legs. I have some friends who use hand weights with theirs for an upper body workout at the same time. Perhaps you can try one at a local recreation centre before committing? But definitely no numb bum so far!

This morning I got up and went for another swim... I will do the day 6 video later. I found yesterday's (the pilates style core work) very difficult and didn't manage to do about half of it. I guess I'm just not that strong around the core. I also struggle with a painful back and shoulder so I found it was a bit of a strain on my neck.

I went over my calories yesterday and the day before... wine and emotional eating were the reasons! I need to find strategies that work for me! I'm not stupid but it's almost like I am ignoring the main reasons I am not losing more weight than I have been. I know what to do - I'm just not doing it.

Good luck everyone!

Hi I'm Heather. I need to get into shape. I would love to be able to take my girls to the beach without having to feel the need to wear a coverup or a t-shirt over my body (although with how my skin reacts to the sun I probably would anyways, but I wouldn't have to do it to cover what's hidden underneath.) We have a wedding to attend in October and I'm not as young as I once was. All the "kids" there will be in the late 20's to early 30's and will be looking smashing i'm sure. I have a dress size 10 that I would love to wear...so that is my goal...(although and 8 would be even better)

Good luck to all the beach babes.

Hi Abismithy and Nancy! Abi-nuts are ok in moderation and are very nutritious. I have a huge can of mixed nut and another huge can of peanuts. I use a quarter cup measure and I put into it two cashews, two pecans, two almonds, two filberts and one brazil nut, then I fill the rest with peanuts. I have this as a snack when I get home from work, before I cook. I do have a little trouble keeping my fat intake within the limits but I'm usually not too far off. So don't feel guilty about a few nuts. Only try to work in the other nuts, especially almonds and pistashios. And use a measuring cup.

Do you feel you get a good workout on your recumbent bike? (congrats on scoring a good deal, by the way) If your legs are sore you must be building some muscle. I know I'm not interested in a treadmill and my bum hurts when I sit on a exercise bike. Maybe the recumbent is for me. emoticon

Day 5 has been fairly good, although being at home I've kind of been picking at some peanuts (I bought a bag yesterday) so not great on the food... I'm probably underestimating the quantity...

Today I've done 50 minutes of swimming and also 25 on my new recumbent bike. I'm not super pushing myself on the bike as my legs feel kind of tired, but I reckon that any little bit will help.

Going to do the Day 5 video after I sort out a crying toddler!

Have a great day everyone!

Yes, I understand the temptation. so far the Skinny Cow is just a treat and hoping I can keep it that way. There is still some Poteet Strawberry ice cream in the freezer that has been safe all week...hope to pawn it off on guests tonight.I go through phases and seem to be strong at home...Keep up the good work!

Week two and week three were a wash-out for me excercise wise. Had a head and chest cold on the right side all of week two and had sinusitis on the left side all of week three. Just bending down to pick something up sent shots of pain through my jaw and made my head spin so exercise was out. Wednesday I went to the dentist who eliminated my teeth as the source of the infection, then Thursday night I went to the emergency room (where everyone kept asking me "So your teeth hurt?". After four hours (2:00am) I finally got a script I couldn't fill until morning. Am now on antibiotics.

I plan to restart week two tommorow. Fell of the wagon diet-wise a little last night (should not have bought that box of Skinny Cow). However I have to recoginize the poor Skinny Cow is not responsible, I am. I can not have this kind of stuff in the house because responsibility gets pushed to the back and I eat the whole box. I enjoy lite yogurt (you know the brand) for desert and am not tempted to eat six of them at once. (Sometimes tempted to eat two.)

So here's to starting again and hoping it goes better this time! emoticon

Nice job Abismithy! I admire that you're sticking to your diet so well! That's my issue... the working out is fine but I just love food so much! I tried Zumba for the first time earlier this year, however, the instructor is employed by the college that I attend and she is a student, basically, the class just wasn't much of a workout for me. It's still a fun exercise though, something different, for sure!

Just finished the video for Day 4... Man, that sucker was hard! Those side lifts kill my back muscles, so I'm guessing that I may failing to engage my abs when doing them. I plan to do the video again later today so I'll try to focus on that. Ran around my college campus late last night, a little too late, in fact. After working at 6 AM and going all day just to go for a 2.25 mile run at 9:30 PM, I was really struggling. It's not a very pretty day, it's supposed to rain all day so I suppose I'll have to force myself to exercise indoors. It's probably for the better, though, I think I'll spin today instead of running - my knee and glutes have been killing me.

Hope everyone is doing well and continuing to strive to meet their goals for this challenge!

Day 3 for me now. Last night I took my first Zumba class and really enjoyed it. I haven't done today's video yet, will have to fit it in tonight with some more cardio - perhaps on my new recumbent bike that's still in the box!

I have a bad knee so am hoping that the zumba won't have a negative impact on it. It was a little twisty so I will have to wait and see. I usually feel it more the second day afterwards. Tomorrow I'll go swimming for 50 minutes... Feeling positive!

I broke my no eating after 9pm rule yesterday but I had to. Dinner was a rush as I had to get to Zumba class. But I checked out the nutritional analysis and ate some almonds and a light cheese stick for protein and fat and was in my goal ranges for carbs, fat and protein yesterday for the first time in ages! Woo hoo to me! I didn't do well with veggies though as I just was so late for cooking dinner.

Good luck everyone - nearly the weekend!

Good luck with the motivation. It is hard. I have been doing the opposite...if I am bad for the day it is my poor choice of food.....exercise so far hasn't been a problem. I have been looking at the scales every day. I know they say not to but it helps keep me focused. Next week I start a road trip. That will be interesting.....eating out is always hard, such tempting stuff on the menus and then with old friends....I'm hoping. And my exercise will probably go down the pooper too....Have to work harder at it:)

JOLIVESHERE: The best motivation is the improvement you will feel in your ability to do the execises after just a few days. I was pretty discouraged to find out how weak I was on the first day, I couldn't get through the first three minutes. I tried again later, took all the movements way down, and just barely made it through. But by the end of the week I was moving faster and making bigger movements and started pushing myself. I noticed that I could get up off the floor easier and turn over in bed easier. Also by the third day I had tons of energy at work and was actually cheerful! This was all motivation I needed to keep going. So stick it out for a couple days and you will get your motivation too!

My week 1 was a success when it came to tracking my eating habits, so so on the journal - but the execise was a complete failure on my part...
And so, instead of beginning again I have decided that I will kick into the work outs from tomorrow (Day 1 of my Week 2).
Anyone got any great ideas to stay motivated?? Would love to hear them if you have. emoticon

Oh, MOTTSMOM, I haved saved the YouTube exercise vids on my flash drive so I can use them on my computer - or plug it in to my DVD player...

How many times have you had to start this challenge over??

Ugh. Seriously. This is my 3rd? The first time, I signed up before May 1st. So I quit and rejoined so I could be in line with everything. Did well for the first week and a half. Not sure what happened, my schedule?? Or me making excuses? This is a totally doable challenge. Really not sure why I can't stick with it. Or anything else for that matter!!

I'm trying again. 3rd time is a charm, right???

Geez O'Pete.

I CAN DO THIS. I have nothing to lose but weight. :)

My first week is going well and I am on track to keep my goal of five visit to the gym. Tried Yoga for my first time tonight and look forward to doing this again. I also was able to configure my YouTube on my tv and it allows me to follow Nicole's workout with the push of a couple of buttons. I have complete confidence I can complete this challenge!

If its to be, it is up to ME!

Just got back from the dentist and I can tell you I'm not doing any exercise tonight! But I'm really glad I found SparkPeople because by now, after everything I've been through the past two weeks I would have totally forgotten about trying to loss weight and get healthy. Having this support and these resources is keeping me focused on staying with good nutrition and getting back into exercise as soon as possible.

Day 2 video completed this morning. I did find it a little tough to keep up but that will improve.

Yesterday I also did 2 x 10 minute walks. I'm getting off the bus at the interchange which means a 10 minute walk to the daycare where my daughters are (and the car) and doesn't cost me any time really as the bus waits at the interchange anyway... so I will do this every day that it is dry. Every little helps!

Tonight is my first Zumba class. I'm signed up for 6 weeks. I just hope it's not to twisty on the knees as I have an existing knee injury that causes me problems. I'll wear a support bandage just in case.

Have fun everyone! Woo hoo Wednesday!

I agree, this is a challenge throughout our lives. I wished I had the knowledge to make this lifestyle change earlier.

Very excited, have some cloths stashed that just needed A LITTLE loss to get back into, will try them on next week when I get back into exercise.

Going to the dentist tommorow, will make doctor appt. too. emoticon

Thanks for the tip Kristen. I will check that recipe out! Well done on your achievements too! That's great - good for you!

I've just found a recumbent bike for half price online so am going to get it tonight to help with my progress. I would like to get out more and do cycling (not that I've ever been a cyclist before) but it's particularly hilly where I live and my husband rightly suggested that I might get frustrated with it quickly.

Will do the videos in the morning before work and cardio afterwork.

After signing up for the Spring Into Shape Bootcamp Challenge, I did the video and cardio for Day 2 yesterday. I managed to run all the way around the nature trail at my Historical Society Museum, which I have never been able to complete since I began this journey to create healthier lifestyle. Needless to say, I rejoiced at the end of the run, pointing towards the heavens to thank God that I made it the whole way without feeling like I was going to pass out. Completed two videos today, re-did the Day 2 abs video just for kicks as well as the video for Day 3. I'm definitely feeling the abs workout today! Made this Crispy Ranch Chicken from the SparkRecipes, and I absolutely recommend it! It's fabulous! Went without the butter and it still tasted delicious. Even though I signed up yesterday, I'm officially starting the challenge today as I wasn't able to do the video yesterday (although I did do a 1hr circuit training class).

Tracking everything - I need to reduce carbs and increase protein.

Feeling good - I got up at 5.30am to do the day one video this morning. I think I'll do some wii Just Dance tonight.

Good luck everyone!

After a great week one, week two tanked, have to say worst week of my life. First I got a head and chest cold and spent four days mostly in bed. Just as I was getting better I got a tremendous pain in my upper jaw which circled around my eye and down my nose, congestion, pressure, you name it. Don't know if this is another attack by the sinus virus or a dental problem but have scheduled dentist appt. for tommorow.

Did absolutely no exercise all last week but kept up good nutrition and tracking, have lost two more pounds but can't find my page to change my weight ticker.

I have noticed benifits from the exercise I got in week one, hoping to get back to it soon but right now just bending over sends a jolt of pain through my jaw.

Wishing you all a better week than I had!

WNY

Started out really tired today, but I pushed myself to do Day 4 Video and 45 minutes of Zumba. Weekends are terrible for me when it comes to temptations. I did pretty well considering how much I could have gone off.

Of course, Monday is the start off on the right foot day.

Hello!

I'm starting this week - I delayed my start as we went on vacation and now I need to lose even more - as I gained about 7lbs!

I'm hoping to lose weight and gain strength and motivation!

Good luck team mates!

Here I am back to give this challenge another go. Attempt number three. The third time is the charm, right? My goals are to have more energy, complete all four weeks, and lose weight.

Finished week 1 yesterday and felt GREAT! This is my first week (EVER) of doing 7 days of cardio and 6 days of strength training. What a blast and I feel more motivated than ever. Looking very forward to week #2. See ya there!

Jumping Jacks are great aerobics but I strongy suggest you try the videos. They cover all areas of your body and you will be able to identify which muscles you need to work. You won't know until you try. Take it from me, your body is keeping secrets from you!

Starting today and looking forward to it. Skipping the vids and keeping it simple. Plan to close the door in my office and do 10 minute spurts of jumping jacks and calisthenics. Add a little resistance band and this challenge for the motivation. I think I can do this! Wish me luck!

I'd been keeping with the vids pretty well and doing at least 60 minutes of cardio through to day 4. I got really really sore so I took off cardio one day early and doubled up on the videos. I think I'm not stretching enough after my cardio and have noticed there is less emphasis stretching in the videos for this boot camp. I think if I want to be able to persist, I'll have to incorporate a lot more stretching throughout

I did video day 2, but I missed my cardio yesterday. I did 60 minutes of Zumba and video 3 today. I have to do cardio everyday now. It looks like the weather is pretty yucky this week and I won't be able to walk.

I will keep doing Zumba which is a very good work out emoticon .

Ok so I'm restarting this whole shebang. i got sidetracked, lost count of where I was up to with cardio and the videos, so starting from scratch is best

My goal is still the same, to just finish the challenge, properly!!

Good for you, Niagchris246, for eating healthy and tracking while feeling down with a nasty cold. Hoping you are feeling better! I like the structure of the 5K walk/jog so I keep on track...although I almost feel I could repeat week one to get stronger....I will move ahead as the plan goes. Eating was crappy this week. I do have to constantly monitor my weight on those scales to keep me focused....I didn't this week or last and this week I crept up...hopefully fixed...Good luck everyone!!! Nancy
