Hey guys. I'm rather behind on the challenge and such. I am going to try my best to catch up this week. I have been traveling a lot and haven't been near a computer a lot of the time. I see that everyone else is doing lovely though. Keep up the great work! emoticon

As for me. I got in my fruits & veggies on Monday & I'm well on my way to getting in my water today. Here's to a great week! emoticon

Yay! I'm so glad you were inspired. To add to that advice, if you are "auditioning" personal trainers, remember that you should look forward to working out with them and feel great afterward. Don't settle for less that you are worth emoticon

I got my Freggies on Monday.

IPANEMAOAKLAND, I loved your Friday advice. I have paid for help in some areas of my life, but for some weird reason I've never considered paying for personal fitness coaching. I am now giving that some thought!

Thanks!

I've been away, so time to get caught up.

Friday advice: Know yourself. The Spark website has lots of tools and resources, but ultimately, you need to figure out what things work for you and your situation. Keep trying different things, because you never know. Then use the approach and tools that work for you. For myself, I know having someone to go to the gym with makes a huge difference than if I try to go by myself.

RAK: Gathered shopping carts that were blocking parking spots at the grocery store.

Exercise: Lifting and carrying moving boxes, one hour.

Monday = got the 5 fruits & veggies in
Tuesday - 12 glasses of water in
Wednesday - "To thine own self be true."
Thursday - Something new: created a whole new presentation on stress using my own photos.
Friday Tip - Try to have at least 3 fruits for breakfast to kick start your day.

My tip is regarding eating out. I try to get the place's menu on line before I go, check the nutritional value and decide ahead of time what I am having. Recently my gf wanted to go to Olive Garden...I didn't think I'd find anything there with all those cheeses and sauces, but I was able to find a nice apricot chicken dish. I allowed myself one bread stick, and had them bring my salad with no dressing (then I just dipped my fork). By taking the time to plan ahead I was able to create a nice 500 calorie meal that I built into my day.

Definitely agree with VP's tip!! Espeically if you know you are going to a buffet...I would guzzle a big bottle of water just to fill up my stomach first! (Just be sure there's a bathroom available afterwards, haha!)

Hmm...trying to think of a tip for today. Always keep pushing yourself to do more or do better...you never know your limits until you stop trying!

SUSIEQ911, you made me think of another piece of advice!
One of the MOST important things I've learned on my journey, is that intense food craving usually means I've gotten off balance in my ratios. I've learned to check my food log, and go directly for the 're-balancing' act. I sometimes get WAY low on fats, or proteins, or carbs, and when I re-balance, the craving goes away. I've also learned that my craving is often 'wrong' about what I need, and that I can shove potato chips in my face for hours and not get the needed protein to re-balance me. Ah! Yes, obese because I don't get clear signals, & I need the data! A light bulb moment.
But- to ALSO agree with you... I keep hella good treats around so that when I want a treat, I really treat myself. Lovely 80% dark chocolate bars- just a tad, & I'm a happy camper.
I'm leaving for Seattle in the morning, and may not be checking in until Monday night. So...
FYI, Hank- I have 1050 minutes of exercise in this week, and I'm sure I'll get in 2-3 more hours this weekend while visiting my son. Hmmm, no wonder I'm tuckered out!

Let's see what advice do I have for a Friday?

I guess one thing that came up today when I read a blog about cravings. I think you really need to pay attention to your cravings. It's your body talking to you. I think you need to be aware and find something low cal that will satisfy the craving. You have to pretty diligent about watching when you give into a craving, but I know I feel much better if I'm craving something and I give my body a little bit of what it wants. The key is that you have to maintain control.

for my something new: My partner just had foot surgery and I am sick. Instead of ordering pizza we tried ordering Jason's Deli online for delivery. We both were able to get a healthier meal that we would have if we had doent he pizza.

My Firday tip: Allow yourself to rest. We tend to get so focused on our goals that we forget our bodies need rest.

Sorry I missed the quote day. This is the first day I have not had tears streaming down my face! After a steroid shot, musinex, and two allergy meds, I can finaly breathe and see where I am going!

Thursday: something new: nothing huge, just went a different way on my morning walk with the dog.

Friday advice: dogs make the best exercise companions, since they are always ready to go and don't let you get away with slacking off! I've been known to borrow a dog from friends when I'm away from mine, just so I have to gt out there and get some sunshine and exercise.

Thurs: Last night in my BOOM! fitness class (percussion + dance = super fun), I lead the whole class in the routine we have been working on for 7 weeks. My teacher says I'm ready to teach the whole class next week!?! We'll see...

Fri advice: Pay for help. Even if it meant sacrificing restaurants, clothes, vacations and drying my clothes on the line instead of the dryer, the professionals that I have hired to help me on this journey have been invaluable. In the last 8 years, I've worked with various therapists (individual, couple, coaching & somatic) and fitness trainers (personal, group & dance) and it was worth every penny. My health and happiness are the most worthy investments around.

So I did try something new yesterday. It wasn't my new fishing lures, but my new therasandals flipflops. They're like the FitFlops.

I could definitely feel it in my legs later last night and Sharon kept grabbing my butt to see if it was working. LOL

With the 'something new' in my head, I picked up a bottle of Sobe Honey Green Tea- 'all natual, 0 calories, 25mg salt (1% RDA), 7g carbs (2%) 0 sugar.
Result? It tasted way too sweet to me. How did they do that?

I attempted to make "healthy" bread sticks today to add to dinner. Certainly something new to me. Sadly the garlic powder I used was too potent for my taste. Hopefully everyone else will like them along with a light pasta and an amazing salad.

Anyone happen to have a recipe for bread sticks?

ok, so trying something new today? Um...not sure I have that option today. I'm pretty regimented today. Since I'm going camping and will be away from the computer for a few days...other than tomorrow at work. I have everything planned to a t as far as food goes.

I'm so paranoid because I won't be able to track. If the weather holds out I might be trying a new fishing lure! LOL

Thursday, Something New.

We are experiencing our first warm spring days here in the Pacific NW. My thoughts naturally turned to Sunscreen and Bug Repellent.

New for me: I ordered an All Natural Sunscreen Lotion SPF 30 with no harsh chemicals. I also ordered a 100% All Natural Anti-Bug Spray. No deet for me! Both products were ordered from Dr. Ben Kim

I'm finally back from a "weekend" beach trip with my partner. We decided to stay few extra days. It was lovely other than a harsh sunburn I got. Got in tons of amazing exercise from canoeing and sand walking. I've pretty much already maxed out my 120 minutes!

Can't wait to back in the next few weeks.

As for this week.

MONDAY: Had 8 servings of fruits & veggies.

TUESDAY: Drank 8 glasses of water

WEDNESDAY: My favorite quote of all time is
"All the things of the universe are perfect. miracles, each as profound as any." by Walt Whitman.

It's gotten me out of so many "funks" over the years and still continues to.

Hope everyone else has been having a grand week!

I tend to change which are my favorite quotes but recently this has been my most favorite:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

--Reinhold Niebuhr

There is actually additional text to the quote. Here's a link if you're interested.

My favorite non-fitness quote is "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Plato

My favorite fitness quote is from a running shoe ad: "Running hurts. It always has. Woolly mammoths didn't just roll over onto a plate and serve themselves up to prehistoric man with fries and a shake. They had to be caught--and running down woolly mammoths was a bitch. Guess what? Running is still a bitch."
