I love everyone's goals! So many inspiring ones. I wish everyone good luck and the strength to hang in here for the 8 weeks!

My goals are: track my glucose regularly & take insulin as needed; track my food intake and get my diet on track; drink more water!; start an exercise program and track my progress; and lose at least 1.5 pounds per week. My overall weight loss goal is 25 pounds for the first level of my weight loss plan. After 25 pounds (which will put me at 140), I will reassess my weight goals.

My goal is to remember my health is more important than my weight, though they can march hand in hand. I will track carbs per meal, and add strength training to my current cardio exercise program.

My goals for the challenge (I'm pre-diabetic) are: to track food, blood sugar, and exercise every day; and to do all the challenge tasks and read all the articles even if I think I already know the information.

My long term goal is to lose 50 lbs but for the next 8 weeks, I hope to lose 1 lb per week or more. I have started walking 30 minutes 5-6 days a week and am using Nectar Sweets Protein drink once or twice a day. Calories around 1250 or less.

In this challenge I want to learn as much as I can about managing my glucose levels, and losing weight. I don't need to inject insulin at this point, and I very much wish it to stay that way. I want to find things I can make habits that will help my family and I all live healthier.

I want to follow the steps. This is my 2nd time at this challenge. The first time I saved the information but did not act on it. I thought I would get to it later but the 8 weeks have come and gone. So today I start over but I really start. My goals are to sign into Sparkpeople and this forum daily; stay within my recommended calorie/carb range daily (use the nutrition tracker at least 3 times/week); exercise 6 days a week--3 cardio and 3 strength training; and earn 25 sparkpoints daily (and spin the bonus wheel).

Hi everyone,
Been thinking all day about this. My goals for this challenge are:
1. to eat less than 40 grams of fat 5 days out of 7
2. to exercise 30 minutes or more 5 days out of 7
3. to record my eating 5 days out of 7.

Overall, though, my goal is to actually complete this challenge. Typically I will drop out of a challenge midway; this challenge is going to truly challenge me!

Blessings,
Kimiko

Hello. My goal is to follow this challenge and complete the steps. The rest will come if I do that. It's a scientific formula. Track food, Exercise, and Accept the support and community. Letting others help and support me is probably the toughest thing for me. I have lived my life doing it all myself, (and eating it all). Very hard to ask for help. So I will commit to checking in, supporting, and accepting support.

I was warned yesterday that I've taken several steps toward turning on the light switch for diabetes. My glucose was 112 mg/dL (I'm not quite sure what that means) and my goal is to get below 100 by the time I am retested.

I was here before because hubby was diagnosed with type 2. I wanted to be able to support him. Mind you, in private I was rebelling bcause instead of working my (non-diabetic) program I felt obliged to do his.

BIG MISTAKE!

I had to learn that each one of us is responsible for ourself. No one can do it for us.

dh took my reading one day last week and it was high. It was after an intense weekend but the high number woke me up. Now I'm here for me, as it should be.

A goal without a plan is just a wish.

My goal is to just follow the plan for 8 weeks, letting come what may. I want to get more fit, lose some weight, and form some dietary habits, but that will come with following the plan. this is my 3rd start-over. I am making my goal to finish this time.

Hello,

I have been a SP member since 2008. I was recently diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I already have high blood pressure and my cholestrol is also a little high. I am currently only taking medications for the high blood pressure. I have roughly 2 months to get my cholesterol down or I will be put on medication which I don't want to do. I have brought the cholesterol down before.

My first weight loss goal is to lose 5% of my weight and to avoid the cholesterol medication. I also am hoping to lose enough weight to reduce my blood sugar. I have started eating healthier (paying more attention to carbs as well as sodium) and tracking all my food as well.

I currently do cardio for at least 30 minutes 3-4 times a week. My goal now is to add some resistance/strength training as well.

Another goal is to stay committed! I usually start out very well but lose my drive (especailly with exercise) quickly.

Looking forward to meeting others with the same types of issues to hopefuly get through this together!

Hi, my name is Diane. My primary goals for this challenge are to learn how to manage type 2 diabetes, put what I learn into practice and get support as I'm getting started in this process. I am hopeful that I will lose some weight along the way, too. I want to be realistic, so I am setting a goal of 1.5 lbs per week, which totals a hopeful loss of 12 pounds over the next 2 months.

Hi my name is Kerry. I was diagnosed in May of 2014 with Type 2 Diabetes. My blood sugar was 223. I am on Metiform once a day. I have lost 25 pounds since May. I am getting my blood sugar down. My goal for this challenge would be to get my blood sugar back in a normal range and to get off the medicine. I would love to lead a healthy life without having to take medicine for the rest of my life.

I knew I had gained a good amount of weight but found out yesterday that I am pre diabetic and know it is time to get into action. So I went to the gym yesterday and gave up my starbucks coffees as of today...one step at a time but I am here for support to help achieve my goals of my size 6 again and to be able to breath and feel amazing again. I am not really sure how to use this site very well but will be trying my best... so my goals for the next 8 weeks is to lose 12-16 pounds and hopefully this will be enough to reduce my blood sugars to a normal level.

Everything you ever wanted is right outside your comfort zone!

I recently joined SparkPeople and decided to take the 8-week Challenge while I am getting to know the site. I just saw where to post my goals! emoticon

My goal is to reduce my A1c by no less than 1 point by my next regular Endo visit.

I plan on accomplishing this by increasing my exercise and have recently gone on an insulin pump at by Endo's suggestion for better control.

KTAADN_GIRL - Welcome back to SP. We're glad you joined our great challenge. Being a newly diagnosed diabetic can be quite scary for people.

You have set some good goals for yourself. Learn all you can about diabetes - what causes diabetes, how to treat hypo and hyperglycemia, the symptoms and the complications of uncontrolled diabetes.

Under the ARTICLES/VIDEO tab you will find videos on exercise, nutrition, motivation, recipes etc. You will also be able to look up those smart carbs you were talking about by searching for the smart carbs at the top of the page.

Use your nutrition and fitness trackers as well. Track everything that goes into your mouth including the good AND bad choices. This will give you great feedback on where you need to improve what you eat.

If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know by posting daily. Let us know how your day has gone as well.

Have fun and enjoy your journey!

KIMMIE - You have set yourself some great goals here. Being on a pump I'm sure can be scary; especially when you go hypoglycemic a lot. I am a hypoglycemic diabetic so I can really emphasize with you on that.

Be sure to eat your three meals a day PLUS 1-3 snacks a day. The snacks are very important in keeping you from over eating at the next meal, to keep your blood sugars from spiking and/or crashing which is what your does and they also help to keep your metabolism going in the right direction. Don't forget to drink plenty of non-calorie fluids to help flush out all the toxins in your body.

For snacks, you might want to try either some cheese and crackers, an apple and cheese, a half a meat sandwich and 1/2 glass of milk etc.

You aren't alone on this new healthy journey of yours. We are all on this journey together. We are here to help, support, and encourage one another along the way.

Be sure to post daily and let us know how you're doing, how your day has gone, if there's any problems we can help you with etc.

Have fun and enjoy your journey.

POTTERYSIS - Welcome back to this great team/challenge. There's a lot of information here but just take it one day and one step at a time. Let me try to help you if I may. Now is the time to get busy and get on track to a new healthier you!!! The risks are much higher when there are diabetes in other family members. emoticon

At the top of your Start Page you will find My Trackers, Articles & Videos, Community, and Site Guide.

SITE GUIDE - - This will give you your Welcome Guide, Tour Video Guides, and answer many frequently asked questions.

Set yourself up some small goals - - something that you know you will be able to achieve such as drinking a certain number of cups of non-calorie fluids each day/week; or, eating a certain number of "freggies" - fruits and vegetables - a certain number times of day/week; or, getting 7-9 hours of sleep each night a certain number of times per week.

Set your weight loss goal at nor more than 5-10% of your total pounds you want/need to lose - any more than that and you are apt to set yourself up for frustration and we all know what happens when we get frustrated!! We don't want that.

Eat your 3 meals a day and your 1-3 snacks daily. The snacks will help to keep you from being too hungry before the next meal, help keeps your metabolism going, and will help keep your BSs on a more even keel. Your last snack can be eaten as late as you want as long as you don't go over your allowed calories given to you by the dietician. If you eat too little calories (less than 1200) you will put your body into starvation mode where you body will hang on to everything feeling as though it wasn't going to get anymore food throughout the day and you will gain weight. Drinking water will help to keep the toxins flushed out of your body and help to fill you up as well.

Try to get in 10 minutes of exercise a day - if that is too much to do at one time, then do two 5-minutes sessions of exercise. All steps add up to better health and weight loss.

There are two very important tools that you will use throughout your journey. They are:

1) The NUTRITIONAL TRACKER will give you great feedback on whether or not you need to increase/decrease your calories, carbs, fats, and protein. Try to fill out and use this tracker every day. Fill this tracker out whether you've made good choices or bad choices. This will allow you to find out what foods work for you and what foods don't.

2) The FITNESS TRACKER will help to keep you accountable to yourself. This is also a good tool to use daily.

ARTICLES & VIDEOS - - This section is where you will find information on diabetes - - what causes it, how to treat it, the complications of uncontrolled blood sugars and many other health issues that you might have or are interested in. You will also find videos on exercise, cooking, recipes etc. Look the section over.

COMMUNITY - - Here you will find Different Spark Teams you can join as well as different challenges, blogs, success stories etc. Again, look this section over and join in on some of them.

As I said, there is a lot of information on this team so take it one day and one step at a time. Don't strive to be perfect but instead strive for consistency.

If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know. There is always someone lurking around the corner close by and will gladly get back to help you real soon. You are never on this journey alone - we are all here to help, support, and encourage one another along our journey. YOU ARE WORTH IT!! emoticon and together emoticon .

Have fun and enjoy your journey.

TEXASMOM68 - emoticon to our great challenge!!!. We are so glad you decided to join our team. There's a lot to learn on this challenge so just take it one step and one day at a time.

First of all, if you haven't already done so, go to your Start Page. At the top of that page you will see several tabs. Go to the SITE GUIDE. It is this section that you will find your Welcome Guide and your Site Tour Video. This section will help to make it easier to learn the site, making it easier to find your way around.

The next tab to go to will be the MY TRACKERS. This section you will find many different things but the two most beneficial trackers you will find will be the

1) NUTRITION TRACKER. . This tracker will give you excellent feedback as to whether or not you need to increase or decrease the amount of calories, carbs, fats and proteins, and

2) FITNESS TRACKER. This tracker will help you to be accountable to yourself.

The next tab is the ARTICLES & VIDEOS. This section is where your will find articles on diabetes as well as many other health articles that you might be concerned about or interested in. You will also find videos on different exercises, recipes, cooking etc. There is a lot of information in there to help you.

Learn all you can about diabetes - - what causes diabetes, how to treat diabetes, symptoms of diabetes - both hyper and hypo, and the complications from uncontrolled blood sugars.. The more you learn about all of this the easier it will be to help overcome a lot of this.

The next tab is the COMMUNITY Section. In this section you will find success stories, message boards, different teams etc Be sure to look this over and see what's in other areas of SparkPeople (SP).

Set some small goals for yourself - something that you know you will be able to succeed such as eating so many servings of "freggies" (fruits & vegetables) emoticon emoticon , drinking so many glass of water per day/week emoticon , or getting 7-9 hours of sleep emoticon a certain number of nights per week.

Try to use your Nutrition Tracker as much as possible. The more you can track what goes into your mouth whether good or bad choices, the better you will learn how to eat - what foods work for you and which ones don't.

Don't strive for perfection but instead make steps towards consistency. There will be days on this journey that you will think the scale has stopped working - - don't put too much stock in what that scale says - - it lies. When that time comes as it does to ALL of us from time to time, remember how far you've already come, how much looser your clothes are fitting, how much better you feel physically, how much more energy you have etc etc.

You are NOT alone on this new healthy lifestyle of your journey. We are all going through our own journey such as the one you are beginning. We are all here to help support and encourage each other because we all feel each and everyone of us is WORTH IT!!! YOU ARE WORTH IT!!!

I have gone through this program twice (once as a refresher) and it's surprising how much more you can learn. While on this program I have been able to get off my diabetes medications, have brought my cholesterol and triglyceride levels to well within the normal limits all while losing weight and many clothes sizes. Now, maybe not everyone will be able to get totally off their BS medications as fast as I did but they can help lower the amount of medications through learning how to eat, what works for you and what doesn't and getting in at least 10 minutes of exercise a day. If you feel 10 minutes at one time is too much for you then do two 5-minute exercises. All minutes and steps add up to weight loss and a healthier life style.

If you have any questions as you proceed into your Weekly Discussions, please let us know. There's always someone lurking around the site just waiting to help you. Also, feel free to read other members' posts as well as you might learn some things from their journey as well as them learning from yours.

Have fun and enjoy your journey.

JENRMILLS - I have found that the more I'm getting in the community, the more I'm getting OUT of the community. It's a great source of support!!!

I am not new to SP, but I just found out today that I am diabetic. My goals for this week is exercise 30 minutes for 5 days this week, per the doc, and to pitch all of the simple carbs into the trash, and to be mindful of those, and do research on the smart carbs, to see what I can have, per me... I go back to my doc on August 21 for a follow up. I'd like to see some progress...

Long term goal, to not be on insulin. I'm only on Metformin, which I start tomorrow.

Hi, I've just returned to SparkPeople after a long absence. I am motivated by my two wonderful daughters, who are grown, but still single. I want to live longer to be able to spend as much time with them as possible.
I do not have diabetes, but am from a family who has had diabetes. I am hoping to avoid it, and my last bloodwork showed that my bloodsugar is higher than it was before. I want to lower this if I can. Losing weight will help me in all aspects of my health.
More specifically, I want to cut out starchy foods for this challenge, and learn to KEEP the starch and sugar low in my diet after the 8 weeks as well.
Although I've tried before, I am hopeful.

My goals for this 8-week challenge are: to eat 45g of carbs at each meal and 15 - 30 g at each snack (based on the recommendations from the diabetic education class I had last week); gain better control of my blood glucose levels; and lose 16 pounds (long-term goal of 88 pounds).

I am a carbohydrate addict...I never realized how many carbohydrates I consumed until I had to start counting them. Thank you Nutrition Tracker!
