You can find the walking programs by clicking on the Healthy Lifestyle button, then Fitness. In the Fitness Features is a Walking Guide. Under Fun and Adventurous Walking Ideas you'll find the 12-Week Beginner Walking Program.
Walking is my sport. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do. Success! emoticon

I'm having such a hard time navigating the site I can't find the walking group and I can't find the ticker to put at the bottom for my weight loss goals either. Once I leave this group I can't reply to any one either. I just had to rejoin so I could reply to you. Can you help?

I really appreciate the encouragement. My current weight is 275 at 5'11". I'm not too good at navigating the site yet, but I think I'll find the walking program and start that first. It is 31 degrees F outside today, but at least the wind does not seem to be blowing.

Thanks again, Julie

I totally agree. You can do this if you want to. I saw all sizes of people walking and running in my 5k, some even limping and they did it. Plus my youngest daughter is a nurse and she hasn't ever mentioned hurting myself by running. I say keep doing what you can do and when you think that is all you can do, push a little more. Your mind will tell you that you can't when your body actually can.

In the last 2 weeks I have discovered that the jogging is getting easier. I attribute it to the fact that I am doing the 10 minute stretching for runners video on SP and my cross training. I run 3 days a week and on my cross training days I do the Runners Intermediate strength training routine on SP and a 20 minute session on my elliptical machine. 1 rest day a week.

JHAMLIN6668 Don't let other people boss you around and put you down like that. Do you feel good after you run. Then keep it up! Its your body not hers. I personally do the training 3 days a week and yoga the other 4. Besides watch the biggest loser there are some really large and in charge people running on those treadmills at the beginning of those shows. So if they can do it so can any one else!

Dear JHAMLIN6668, please don't let your sister keep you from doing something that is good for your health. The training program is for everyone, and you can modify it if necessary to not get injured and still make progress. If you really don't like running, perhaps you should try a walking program instead. (I must honestly say that running will never be my sport of choice, but it is nice to use it to as part of my exercise choices to reach my goals.) Please don't give up! emoticon

All I did this week was yoga one morning. My sister gave me a big lecture on how I was too fat to run and that I was going to do irreparable damage to my knees, feet, and ankles, if not have a heart attack. I think this may not be right for me.

Just thought I'd chime in and add my 2 cents. LOL. I haven't ever been a runner, nor do I especially enjoy it. . I started C25k last year and injured my knee and had to stop. I felt defeated and like such a failure. But I needed a goal and found this team and program on SP, so I started again and followed it to the letter for 6 weeks. Then ran my first 5k with my youngest daughter on a girls weekend together. I LOVED it! Although I pushed myself a little too hard and was sore afterward. I returned to week 5 and just finished it. I feel great!!! And the best part, I feel ready for week 6. Bring it on!!!!!!!!!!! : )

You can do this, PurpleRose.

emoticon I'm so excited right now I just had to share! I was finally able to complete 8 intervals of running 3 minutes and walking 2! It finally gives me the confidence I need and the motivation to keep going. I don't feel like I'm ready to move on to week 6 yet and only walk 1 minute in between runs, so I'm going to continue to do it my way until I feel ready! I'm starting to finally feel like a runner, even though I'm 243 pounds!

Thank you for the encouragement. It just gets frustrating when you can't do something that you've been working hard towards. I guess that will just make the accomplishment so much more rewarding when I get there.

It's okay!! Stay on the same week for as long as you need to. It takes a long time for the body to adapt to running. Don't get discouraged. Remember, even if you stay on the same week for months, you are still out there doing your body good!! Remember that!

I've been progressing through this program fairly well until last week. I tried to move on to week 6 and couldn't do it. I'm repeating this week and trying to increase to 8 intervals instead of the 6 to get ready for week 6 and I'm having a hard time with it. I tried to do 7 intervals today and stopped half way through the last one. I'm getting frustrated but I'm trying to stay positive.
