Hey I'm in. I will do at least 10 minutes of exercise at home. I also track the 2hours of dancing i do while at work, which to me doesn't count towards my goal at home. But overall I will agree to 130-250 minutes a day of exercise.


A new way to reward myself. Half-way to my first weight loss goal.

Kissmyhipsgbyby, I am both amazed and a bit worried about your workout regime. Hats off to your weight loss so far. I debated whether I should share but my trainer said I should, so here goes. I'm impressed you can handle 60 minutes on the treadmill and 70 minutes on the elliptical each day, I'd get bored to tears unless I was watching TV or a movie the whole time. Where my worry comes in is that you are spending a ton of time in the gym, but you need to ask yourself how hard you are working. I've got at least 60 pounds on you, and I don't break a sweat walking 3 mph. You could get a lot more out of a lot less time. I have had the opportunity to hire a trainer recently, and she's revolutionized my world! I lost 5 percent body fat and gained 3 percent muscle in two weeks time. I do work out about 90 minutes a day, five days a week. I do circuits that include resistance for the full body but keep the heart rate up for 30 to 45 minutes at least 3, often four times a week. When I'm on the elliptical or the treadmill, I do HIIT -- high intensity interval training. So rather than going 70 minutes at 5 mph, do 30 second sprints at a low level (your best pace) and then amp your intensity up to work your legs hard for a minute, for a total of 20 minutes. Do the same on the treadmill, alternating faster pace with slower recovery on an incline. Pyramids are also good, after a warm-up, start out at a powerwalk with a 4 percent incline for four minutes, slight amp it up in speed (still powerwalking) and go to a 6 percent incline for 3 minutes, than bring the incline down to 1.5 and break into a jog for two minutes, then do your best pace for one minute. Then do the whole pyramid in reverse. In that 20 minutes, you'll likely burn more calories than your whole hour on the treadmill, while improving your fitness and strength. It's tougher than the HIIT training -- I'd build up to it. I usually mix the 20 minutes of HIIT/Pyramid with a 30-45 minute circuit, throwing in other stuff like tae bo or spin class too. The best part, is this type of cardio training ramps up your metabolism and has you burning more calories overall for the next 24 hours than your two hours of low-intensity sustained cardio.
Anyhow, just some friendly advice -- you can look up HIIT training on spark, they recommend it too. At a minimum, I'd up the level on the elliptical and the incline on the treadmill to your degree of fitness, and keep pushing it up each week. I'd also do full-body resistance if you are only doing it Mon-Wed-Friday. Legs once a week is not enough to build up your muscle or tone. Good luck to you in your continued progress!

I am so excited about our challenge, too! I'm finding myself pushing to add just a smidge more almost every time I exercise so I can pump up those minutes.

I joined the challenge at the beginning of the month and have added extra exercise time to my work out plan. I love that we already reached our goal! This is the first month I've joined a challenge, I love how it has motivated me and others on the team. emoticon

OK, I joined the challenge. I don't want to but I know I need too. I am just so lazy. I hate to exercise. So here is my plan. I will do my 40 minute workout DVD every other day, starting today. So that will be for 13 days this month and a total of 520 minutes. I just printed and hung up a Feb calendar page next to the TV with a page of my daughters heart stickers. If I put 13 stickers on the calendar this month I am going to ?????? do something to reward my self. I am thinking a neck, shoulder and back massage sounds good. Now I just got to find out were to log my minutes in for this challenge.

174 will put me at overweight, but not obese!!!

If we keep up this pace, it looks like we could meet our team fitness goal by the time the month's about half over. Really loving the challenge. It's just what I needed. I logged 80 minutes of exercise for the team. Since a week and half ago I was at 0 per day, I find it to be a pleasant improvement.

Day #1 and we already racked up about 2500 minutes, 5% of our goal! I think it's neat that we're also at about 5% for water intake and 6% for welcoming new members. I think we're all stretching! I know this fitness challenge is what got me to log another five minutes today, just because I wanted to contribute a bigger number.

Wow, I almost fell out of my chair - we have so many minutes already! I think it is SO wonderful that so many people are enthusiastic and contributing!

I am brand new at this - I don't know if the challenge will automatically clear itself and restart on Feb. 1 or if I'll have to change something.

Either way, I am completely inspired by our team spirit. Consider this a dress rehearsal!

Here we go! Our first team monthly challenge of 2011 is here - in February we're going to strive to hit 5,000 fitness minutes as a group. Please join the challenge (look at the bottom of the team page to join the challenge) and remember to track your minutes in your Goals page (link, http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/other_g
oals.asp click on the orange cross and add your minutes every day.)

This is our first challenge of the year and we'll need everyone's participation to see just how far we can go! So whether your personal goal is to walk 10 minutes a day, exercise three times a week, or run a marathon, every minute matters and counts toward our goal!
