They should all close if they can't take care of the dogs decently. And that one guy even admits he can't under the new rules! So go ahead and close! If I want a dog, (or another dog I should say) all I have to do is wait and one will show up at my door- there are so many abandoned- don't need any puppy mills to provide me with a dog!
Any way we can send these comments to those people? emoticon

Hmm...Just realized this didn't post in the "Support in all forms Forum" like I intended. Oh well, thanks to you both for your support and replies. Rants intended for the betterment of animals are always welcome in my book!

I have to say I wish we had tougher laws. I think the new regulations, really look good, except for the attached run. We have never had a huge kennel, so our dogs are part of our family, which means they have run of the house (unless they are puppies), and then we put them outside several (sometimes feels like million) times a day!!

Puppies are also all raised in the family. This past summer with Arwen's litter, they were in our living room; when they got too big for their whelping pool, we made a huge pen...We have never had puppies on metal floors (unless to quickly do a "temperament test" and then its to see if they will walk over the metal)...Sure they pups get dirty, but thats what cleaning their papers helps reduce.

I also don't think "reputable breeders" should be breeding several different breeds of dogs (1 or 2) maybe, but not as many as the main "breeder" was doing...I mean being able to house/breed 500 dogs --- screams puppy mill to me.

Stuff like this just makes my blood boil - sorry for the rant, but I think that responsible breeders should be looked at too, that their should be people going out and making sure their dogs/kennel/puppies are being kept in good conditions, maybe then we would have less puppy mills and more healthy dogs.

Terrible that he could get away with this. How very sad for the poor dogs. He should never be allowed to have dogs with these horrible conditions.

Based on this he is only in it for the money not for the love of the breed. How very sad and disgusting at the same time. He should be banned from breeding period! How deplorable. Thank you for sharing this.

You have to admire this guy's, let's say chutzpah, to give that reasoning! At least PA is doing something!

Among other things, Pennsylvania's new dog laws require breeders to increase cage sizes and provide an attached "run" so dogs can get exercise. Dogs must receive regular veterinary care and have access to water at all times. Cages can't be stacked, and dogs can't be kept on wire flooring. And any kennel housing 25 dogs during a year must be licensed and inspected.

Zeiset, of EZ Puppies, said the prohibition against wire flooring is especially tough for breeders. "There's no way you can keep a dog dry on any kind of flooring where urine does not drain away, there's just no way to keep them clean," he said. "That would be a 24-7 job."
