I read an interesting thing about this topic, and what it said was that a study was done and hotel housekeepers were split into 2 groups, one group was told that the work they did daily was good exercise and the second was told nothing. the group that was told that there work was exercise, lost weight, the 2nd group didn't. So maybe I should start thinking that my job is exercise!

I have an office job that requires me sitting in front of a computer all day. I am a media researcher. I get paid for how much info I find so being away from my desk does not pay. I do A LOT of leg workouts under my desk. Leg lifts and holds, bun squeezes, ankle turns and some other odd ball stuff. Weather pending I walk outside at break time and lunch time

I work two jobs, I've learned to exercise & walk the dogs whenever I have some down time. Even if it is only for 10-15 minutes each time.

I work a 24/48 in EMS so some days I get quite a workout(today I got to try to strap down a dude twice my size while knocking him full of haldol...)
I don't usually work out while on shift even though we have equipment to do so. Prehaps my attitude will change about that some day...

I have an office job, but I try to squeeze in little bits here and there. I wear a pedometer to incent me to get in 10K steps as many days as possible. I park further away to get in extra steps. I work on the 5th floor, but also try and use the bathrooms on the first floor to get more stair walking in. I take Kit for park walks anywhere from 2-5 times a week (depending on time of year). Since losing 15lbs, I've rejoined my soccer team, and playing this fall season. The rest of my exercise is either exercise videos or Wii (EA Sports Active or Wii Fit free step and yoga). emoticon

My job is extremely physically demanding. I figure I burn a lot of calories during the day when I am there. I still always try my hardest to make time to work out. Your body does adjust to your job after a while. I remember when I started working I lost 30 lbs. in the blink of an eye, but now I have to really work at it.

I've been unemployed for a year so I have plenty of exercise time. I did manage to exercise when I was working. I got up very early at 5:00 a.m. and walked about three or four miles and then again after dinner, I walked another few miles. I love to walk.

I have a desk job, but I always pack my clothes for the gym and make myself go on the way home from work. I also attend a very small gym with classes only. You sign up for classes in advance online and if you miss a class they email you. If you disappear for a while they'll call to make sure everything is okay. That keeps me on my toes and active.

Before Spark People I used to come home so tired all I did was sit and watch TV. Now I work out with Jillian Michaels on Exercise TV before work, walk 20 min at lunch and stretch or do yoga at night. I have so much more energy now.

I have a desk job and work 10+ hours a day i'm a bookkeeper on the 6th floor, I use the bathroom on the 2ed floor. I have to climb 4 flights of stairs every time I go to the bathroom. I also keep dumbbells beside my desk and have a list of exercises I can do with them on the wall. I use them when I'm on hold, waiting for a computer program to boot up, making copies. Yes I have my own copier.

Office job - but I try to get out and walk or run at lunch everyday - at least 3 times a week if things get hectic - I also like to close the door and workout to a sparkpeople quick vid - it is so helpful! I can take 7 minutes and do that!

I work 10 hours a day in a grocery store pharmacy and by the time I get home... I'm usually so tired I just wanna sit down and relax. So before I sit down I change into my workout clothes and that usually motivates me to get up and actually do something should I sit down and get comfortable. I've been doing 4 miles a day after work and on my days off... I'm trying hard to keep it up and right now I have lots of motivation because on June 19 I'll see my boyfriend for the first time in like 8 weeks at his graduation from boot camp for the Navy. :)

I work at a dialysis center and you'd think that employees would really be aware of the need for a proper diet and exercise. I started printing out nutritional info on the most popular places most of them eat and leaving them in the break room. Didn't say a word. I've noticed that some of them have become more aware over the last 2 months. Doughnuts used to disappear within an hour of arrival but now there are some left over for the next day. 4 dozen doughnuts - 20 people - you do the math.

I'm lucky to have an office so I can sometimes shut the door and work out a little at break or at lunch. I keep shorts & tee shirt, 5lb dumbbells, a resistance band, and a rolled up yoga mat there. (2) Breaks are 15 min each and lunch is an hour so I can usually get in a few minutes to up to 30 on a good day if there is no crisis.

Last week some of us actually got out and walked at lunch since the weather was nice. Not the kind of place you can walk alone. I carry pepper spray & my cell when we go.

It's hard to work a 50+ work week sitting at the desk and still have time for family, friends, dogs, and workout time! I try to get up earlier in the morning and go to the gym, so as not to take time from anyone else. Unfortunalty this can't be done because I didn't go to bed early enough the night before. Also, I try to make chores a little harder (to burn more calories) by shoveling the snow instead of using the snowblower, walking the long driveway to drop of the trash instead of driving it to the end of the road, running instead of walking upstairs, etc.

I moved the elliptical in front of the TV. Even if I am tired, I shoot for 20 minutes. Usually this gets me up and going for a full workout.

Also, when the weather is nice and it is light out, I take the dogs out to the beach or the park. Their fun is infectious!

Yes! I works long hours so I have to be creative. First I always where my pedometer. It gives me motivation each day to get in as many steps as I can. When the weather is nice, I walk during lunch outside. After work, before I eat dinner, I spend some time excercing. Lately that has meant walking on the treadmill....Getting the excercise can be a challenge but it's worth it!

The way I look at it is, yes I do get a workout with my job as a housecleaner, but if I am still overweight and not losing, then it is obviously not enough of a workout. I think that your body gets used to the repetition of movement that you do every day at work too and that makes it harder.

First thing in the morning after coffee, I do my strength training for about 5-10mins everyday except Sat and Sun, I take my dog for a walk for 15mins before work, come home and walk him for 45mins or more, then take him for his bedtime walk for 30 mins or more and thats my workout. I dont have time for a gym or 1-2 hours of workouts at home, I work in a hospital and my beeper can go off at anytime, which means get my A** to the hospital. I still get enough training its just spread out and walking a 70lb Belgian Sheepdog hellbent on chasing rabbits, thats plenty of aerobics!

I work in a factory too, but not on the line, I work in Quality Control. But I work 3rd shift too and find myself always tired. I was doing good with my workouts, but it's been a week or 2 now since I've done anything. I always take the stairs at work and try to walk extra and eat less when I'm feeling a lack of motivation once I get home. Good luck!

My student and I do a lot of walking during the day. We will go from one end of the school to the other a number of times during the day. Also I will get involved in doing gym with him if he wants me to play with him. Or I will get involved with the other students. They all seem to like me.

I have a rather flexible job. I work part-time as a paraeducator substitute. I do a lot of walking while on the job and some days when I am working I don't feel like working out afterwords. I tell myself I have to do at least 15 minutes on my elliptical. Better than nothing, right?!? I usually wind up doing at least 30 minutes to 45 minutes. I've also been meeting someone at our local mall to walk with her. I have some accountability here! I live in a cold state too and it can be challenging finding motivation in the cold weather. But I keep telling myself it is for my own good...

My days at work vary and sometimes I get more of a workout than I others. I work for an agency that supports people who have developmental disabilities and I train staff in a variety of subjects. One the days that I train CPR or Crisis Management, I get a pretty good workout.

Too keep from getting execise burnout or being too tired, I always try to give myself one day off during the week (usually Sunday) and another "easy" day, like my Thursday night yoga class. Yoga's not really easy, but it's a slower gentler pace that builds strength and flexibility, rather than cardio.

Unfortunately, I have a desk job and all I get at work is stressed!! I live in Central Massachusetts and the weather does not cooperate much with getting outside and walking. It's been a little better lately but not much. I have had a tough month with all the "snacks" that people bring to work and have probably - no I know I have - gained weight instead of lost :( But today is another day and tomorrow is another month; time to step it up a notch or two and get back on the wagon - spring is coming!!!!

I work from home, and find it incredibly difficult to get motivated to do anything extra, so I at least try to park farther away from the store entrances / exits, and to walk faster when shopping.

I also try to make 2 or more trips for something around the house, instead of being 'efficient' by doing things all at one time. Not much, but it all helps.

I also work in a factory, on a line and have been doing so for 25 years. Your body gets used to doing the same thing all the time, so while you do burn more calories than someone sitting at a desk all day, it can't really be considered a workout.

I still get out and do my running and cycle to and from work. Try just getting out for 15 minutes. You might find it energizes you.
