It's amazing what an extra 20 pounds of weight gone can do for you, huh?? :)

Thanks Shannon,

I did a search and found the link. Looking forward to hanging with you all again!

Adding the extra dog to my home can be thanked for my extra miles. In the beginning, I was taking them for a short jog at 5am and then taking each one out for a 1hr jog in the evenings. Yes, I ended up totally exhausted by the end of the week but it was well worth it!

It is also great to see how much fitter I have become and can jog up hills that I used to try to avoid, crawl up or literally be dragged up by my babies. hehe

I haven't really been following this challenge too much as I got a little carried away trying to do too many challenges. But being that I was doing the steps challenge, America on the Move challenge, working out my miles on Mapmyrun.com then it wasn't hard to make to figure out that I have covered about 205 miles for December.

It also helps that I have my 2 active dogs that I exercise together or separately every day covering a minimum of 3 miles and anything up to 6/7 miles on a Fri/Sat & Sun.

I do hope we will be doing this challenge again for January as I am feeling really inspired!

Shannon,

I, too, echo the thanks for continuing! Seeing what other folks do (despite weather!) inspires me everytime I think "oh, not today" ...

Shannon,

I'm glad we are continuing, as my dogs love this challenge. It was more of a challenge today as we were walking in a snow storm! 2 miles today.

Whew, you guys tire me out just logging miles!! Nice job everyone. I think I'm going to put up a post for January miles and I'll track them, but I won't post mileage updates until the end of the month. So if anyone still feels like walking/running (and I'm going to try really hard to get back into it) keep track of those miles!!

12/31 1.9 miles Had to cut this one short, because we had company in the shape of a large yellow puppy in a dog's body, and I was terrified that she would run out into traffic as she ran into the road several times. But my dogs are loving this challenge, if I am off, anytime I head for the door, or put on tennis shoes, or say the wrong thing (lets go, are you ready) they immediately go to the door and sit (have to sit to get leashes on to go). The hard part is getting them to sit when we get home to get leashes off (what fun is that mom?)
Love and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm new to this team and am wondering if there will be a January Dog Walk? Missy (my Little Loyal Yellow Lab) is looking forward to logging the miles. Me - well, I'm getting stronger and healthier and she really is the BEST motivator! She whines and crys and looks at me with expectant brown eyes until we've gone - EVERY DAY!

Lori,

I had to laugh at your comment as ( have one of those 'barf' routes myself ... only now it will seem better each time I walk it as I'll think of you and the phrase "barf" will make it easier (or at least I'll laugh before I throw up!)

Dec 11th-27th 23 miles

As much as Huey is enjoying our faster paced walks, he is not enjoying the cold. Do I get to count extra calories for carrying my wimpy doggy home, its so embarrassing? Maybe we should just move to Hawaii for the winter.
If anyone is afraid of gaining weight on a vacation, I say go tropical! There were people walking at all hours of the day, what better motivation than seeing that everyone else can do it, no matter what swimsuit size they were in. Then there's splashin in the water, kayaking, snorkeling boat tours, and the quick hike to a beautiful waterfall. I swear we ate everything we saw (the most amazing fresh fruits, my husband ate fish almost everyday and enjoyed it, I always had in Hawaii, and we ate at a luau and huge buffet for Thanksgiving)and still lost weight!
Then we came home to the frozen tundra of Montana, and it was time for snowboarding. Every year I tell myslef that I am going to lose weight so it is easier to push myself back up when I fall down, but we still go and I just call each time I fall down one mega push-up.
Sorry for the long post, but one month later, and we are still practicing the lessons we learned on vacation - take advantage of you local "touristy" activities to add to your exercise routine.

Consider it pure joy when faced with challenges of many kinds!

Hi all, it's great to be back home. Our dog sitter is obviously in great shape, because we came home to a lean and athletic doggy. I'm so jealous, he is almost to his goal weight, and now when we go for our jog/walks, he is outlasting me.
My husband is enjoying our jogs more now, I think we were a little slow paced for him before. He's even coming in the door in the evening and asking if it's time to go for a walk.

Dec 1st to the 10th
16 miles

Happy to see the walk is still going strong!

Jojo, yes sometimes I look like a comedy act when Zeek walks in front of me and trips me (he does that quite often), hopefully the collar will stop that as well.

Thanks bunches. I'm going to hit Petsmart this weekend and give it a try. I will learn how to use it properly. All Daytona and Baby Star do...is HORSE AROUND...I just thought it would be a more controlled (and like you said) enjoyable walk. I want to be able to take them together and not look like a comedy act going down the street! LOL!

And another vote for prong collars here! It's like power steering, I was told when I got my lesson on how to use one, and I have to agree. Walks are much more fun when you are not being pulled! Albert is a good dog but he is well over 60 pounds and really still just a puppy. I won't let anyone else in the house use the prong collar, just to be on the safe side since I am the only one who got "trained" on it. You take it apart at the prongs rather than slide it over his head, SHADOWJEM, so it's really only Baby Star's neck size that matters.

Okay, I got all those miles!! And the only time it's too late to start something is if you never do. With that said, I'm hoping my back gets better fast so I can get back to MY walking! All of you are a definite inspiration to me so keep up the great work!

About the pinch collar, if you have any questions make sure you get them answered. They work only if used properly and can hurt your dog if not. Follow the directions if they come with some. (I'm only giving the lecture my mom gave me!) :) CCRCCR is right though, they have to be snug, right up around behind the head at the highest point of the neck. You should be able to still be able to get two fingers under the collar though.

Shannon :)
