Sounds like a really healthy plan!! Good luck!

I'm mixing in detox soups and fresh veggie juices to try to load up on nutrients and purge some of that nasty stuff!!

Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.

Drink "half my weight in ounces"...
Does that mean if I weigh 170, I should drink 85 ounces of water a day?

Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place. - Kurt Vonnegut.

Must eat enough so your body does not think it is being starved (at which point there is no weight loss)

1500 calories per day is a good goal. Drink lots of water, track your food and exercise.

Yes! Iforgot the name for it, but just google calorie cycling, there are awsome articles by Dr. Shrug. 1200 is too low in my opinion. On my "high" days can have almost 1700 calories, that is two days a week. The rest I'm supposed to do around 1500. I weigh 150. And yes exercise, mostly weight training, will rev up your metabolism but you have to be sure to eat enough or it backfires. My prob is I don't always follow this but see results when I do. You have to keep your body guessing. My best friend did an extreme diet, lost a BUNCH but cannot maintain because she literally starved herself and now her body is protesting. Even when I'm "bad" I seem to maintain although I'm back on track to lose. Dr. Shrug explains the science behind calorie cycling. Exciting stuff!

Erigust - Just want to make sure I understand - we should not be only trying to eat
1200-1400 calories a day - we should mix it up a couple days a week? My DIL told me
that maybe I was not eating enuf calories, and my metabolism was slowing down - Something I never thought of!

I know putting exercise in the mix helps also. emoticon

Sounds great, make sure you have a few higher calorie days a week in there to keep your metabolism UP and to shock your body, some of the biggest losers on here "cycle" their calories and keep from slowing their metabolism. Your food plan looks great! Good job

I am beginning an aggressive diet that helps to dissolve (I know no other way to put this!) the excess weight I carry around my waist. I am 59 years old, and, have put on weight, so, along with some hill climbing, swimming, and, other weight lifting activities, I am putting together meals. Keeping the total intake to around 1500 calories a day, I begin with:
*
Oatmeal
some protein - eggs, cheese
coffee

carrots and celery for snack
*
large salad with cucumbers, red onions, celery, carrots, tomatoes, boiled eggs, fat free dressing - chicken

carrots and celery for snack

*
Trout, Salmon
baked sweet potato
broccoli
glass of wine

Eddy's fruit bar for snack - 45 calories

*
half my weight in ounces of water throughout the day
one hour of intense exercise!
