Don't know what I would do without our rice cooker, or slow cooker. They are perfect for fixing Sunday dinner, when we get home from church, dinner is ready to eat. we use them a lot.

I don't have a rice cooker but I use my slow cooker regularly. It's great that I can go away and leave it and know that I won't come back and find food burnt to the bottom. emoticon

I always used to think rice cookers were just another appliance gimmick but we got one from Costco and we use it ALL the time. Mostly for rice, brown, wild and white for the furkids, but it is such a time saver and the rice comes out perfect whenever you want it to. I have not tried lentils and other grains, but will definitley do so. This reminds me to pull out my slow cooker also

Interesting, I have a rice cooker and hardly use it. I will dig it out and try some recipes. emoticon

use one cup rice, 3 cups water, let it cook until water is absorbed. I forgot to say, most rice cookers will automatically turn off when rice is done

Those are both interesting combinations. Didn't think you could add that much liquid. although bought mine second hand and no real directions.

today I plan to make Black rice pudding in a cast iron dutch oven.
2 c. black rice
6 c. water, bring to a boil and let simmer(covered) until water is absorbed, stir occassionally.

Add 3 14 ounce cans coconut milk, unsweetened

1 c. sugar
2 tsp. each, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves. /2 tsp sea salt
2 c. cocnut, simmer until milk evaporates.
serve hot or cold, I prefer it hoy.

I use my rice cooker for more than just rice - it cooks just about any whole grain perfectly. I've used it for amaranth, barley, quinoa, as well as lentils and other dried beans (although beans really need the longer cooking time of the crock pot).

My favorite right now is 1/2 C each brown basmati rice and french lentils. Add 1/2 T olive oil and swirl it around to coat each piece. Then add water and cook. Couldn't be simpler!

I've used the delicious mixture it produces as both a dinner dish (adding more olive oil, celtic sea salt, a sprinkling of thyme and a tablespoon of pine nuts) as well as a breakfast/dessert type dish (by adding cinnamon and almond milk and Truvia sweetener).
