Question for those of you who eat spinach in your eggs? Do you use frozen spinach?

I usually have fried egg whites and a piece of whole grain toast with 1/2 tbsp. of peanut butter for breakfast.

I'm going to try some Greek yogurt!

Thanks for all the great ideas!

I eat either cream of wheat or cooked oatmeal with a little oat bran every morning. 4g protein.
If especially hungry I add a morningstar veggie burger, 9g protein.

I've been eating a greek yogurt every morning - either Fage 0% with fruit (or i'll add a tablespoon of jam/preserves to it) or Chobani 0% which has fruit on the bottom. Both are around 120-140 calories and the protein is pretty high - this morning's chobani with peach was 14 grams of protein. :-)

I love eggs for breakfast. I have some kind of egg scramble or omelet 4 or 5 days a week. Yesterday I had eggs with some chopped garlic, cheese, mushrooms and spinach. Work days, I just scramble some eggs with chopped ham and cheese. Maybe some chopped mushrooms, peppers and onions if I have time to chop the veggies, I don't chop them before hand.

With the ham and eggs, that's usually a lot or all of my protein for the day so the rest of the day I just snack on fruits and veggies and maybe have a sandwich for lunch or dinner to get the carb/fat/protein ratio right.

I finally tried what someone suggest a while back....add an egg to your oatmeal. Not bad. It makes it kind of like a custard. I mix it with my milk really well and then add the oats. Usually, I use the Weight Control kind or a fiber kind and then also add my fiber powder in addition. It's a nice breakfast.

This morning I had 2-egg omelette filled with carmelized onions & mushrooms, 1/2 C LF cottage cheese and 1/2 C black bean salad (very low fat) and some cantaloupe. I have been doing intervals 3 mornings a week followed by 20 mins of strength training and biking 45 mins on the non-interval days. My energy level was starting to get very low during the day. I'm hoping that more protein at breakfast is going to be key. Any thoughts on that?

I like steel cut oats with half a serving of unsweetened peanut butter for even more protein most mornings. Whole grains have a surprising amount of protein, and then the fiber fills you up too.

I guess I never paid attention to the amount of protein I ate in the morning. I am going to try the protein thing. I know most mornings I eat a bowl of oatmeal and a banana but I have to space them out because I get so hungry with in a couple hours if not. I am going to try out the Protein breakfast for a week and see what happens. Thanks for some of the great ideas on what to try!

Didn't like it, but at the end of the day I had balanced the protein/carb/fat ratio, so I suppose the quinoa helped. I haven't actually compare the protein/carb counts for pasta and quinoa, but I will at some point before I subject myself to quinoa again : )

Gotcha, ATHOMPSON32, I do use whey protein. And today I tried quinoa instead of rice or pasta at dinner. I'll be interested to see how that plays out in the protein/carb/fat ratios when I do the daily nutrition analysis.

There has been a lot of research about eggs and cholesterol going back and forth. It appears that getting eggs no more than 4 times a week would not have an affect on your cholesterol unless you are a person that already has high cholesterol. I do like the taste of egg beaters but they can get old

Good points, ATHOMPSON32. Part of my 'problem' is I like the taste of whole eggs. I was very interested in an article I read on Sparkpeople this morning that a new analysis of eggs shows that eggs nowadays have significantly less cholesterol and more Vit. D than eggs did a number of years ago when the traditionally-accepted nutritional analysis was done. Maybe I'll be able to have my whole egg a couple or three times a week in good conscience : )

I completely agree with getting 30g of protein at breakfast. It is hard to do but it really pays off. Protein powders and egg beaters can help reach that goal without adding a lot of calories

it's been awhile since I posted here and since then I have started a new plan. I am eating every 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours and for breakfast I have a protein shake with 15 gr of protein. I am learning 1. what true body hunger feels like (so I can eat only when hungry) 2. my body can get used to get the nutrients it needs and so restart my metabolism 3, focus on me and my top priority, weight loss (it takes almost 2 1/2 hours tho prep, consume and clean up).

I read an article in a fitness magazine that said to eat 30g of protein at breakfast and that breakfast is the better meal to get your protein. So, I tried it this morning. Wow, is it hard to do. I had 1 1/2 C skim milk, an English muffin with fiber, 1 egg, and 2 Morning Star sausage links. I had my usual 10 oz of oj beforehand and my fiber Metamucil in the warm milk, too. Wow, I feel full and not wanting to exercise.

I always try to eat some protein at breakfast -- usually an egg white veggie omelette or yogurt with fruit.

I'm a carbaholic! Its hard for me to get all my proteins especially much meat. I'm trying.

I like making omelets with lots of veggies: onion, broccoli, green, red or yellow pepper, what ever I have on hand.

Also, eggs seem to keep me more regular.

starting my day with protein really seems to be what works for me, I usually have oatmeal w/a scoop of Cinch Protein, walnuts & craisens in it. It's rib sticking! :)

definitely, definitely, definitely I have protein at breakfast. Usually it's yogurt, a couple of times a week it's eggs, when I really think I deserve a treat, it's sausage or bacon as well as eggs. Protein really carries me over to the next meal or snack.

I have half a cup of steamed spinach with a slice of light pepperjack cheese and two poached eggs each morning, along with a piece of fruit. Without some protein, I'm hungry in an hour and I'll start granging!

Two of my favorite breakfasts are:
1. Plain fat-free yogurt topped with fresh fruit and some granola.
2. Egg white veggie omelet with almond cheese, along with a side of fresh fruit.

If I have enough time for protein it would be refried beans on the bottom, over easy egg, salsa and some 2% cheese! YUM!!

Usually, no time so things like Multigrain O's, Total, Smart Start and skim milk.

I have eggs every morning. Sometimes I have bacon too. And some type of veggie. Or I make an omelet with spinach. It's good and easy.

Egg white omelettes with feta cheese, mushrooms and whatever else I might find in the fridge that is vegetable. I usually won't need a snack unless it is a piece of fruit 2 hours before lunch.

Fruit digests differently so if you eat it before other foods it has a chance to start the digestion process.

My favorite easy, protein-packed breakfast is a smoothie made with ice, half a frozen banana, half a tablespoon of PB, a cup of unsweetened chocolate almond milk, Splenda, and a scoop of chocolate protein powder. Another combo I like is Greek yogurt, frozen berries, unsweetened vanilla almond milk, and ice. Both pack a huge protein punch.

When I have a little more time, I'll eat a bowl (about 1.5 cups) of Kashi GoLEAN with unsweetened vanilla almond or skim milk and a handful of blueberries, or a whole wheat English muffin with veggies scrambled with egg whites and topped with a bit of LF/FF cheese.

I start my morning off with a nice balanced and high protein meal. I cook two egg whites and one egg, then put it on an Arnold Whole Wheat sandwhich thin. (Not only does it have 5 grams of protein, but it also has 5 grams of fiber). I also have a serving a fresh fruit and some coffee with skim milk. It is a GREAT way to start my day and keeps me full and satisfied until lunch.

cooking a veggie like broccoli or spinach with pasta. Throwing it in for just the last few minutes of cooking, and using a healthy margarine or light sauce. Very delicious, and gets a veggie serving or two in!

During the week I usually have Total Cereal with nonfat milk, some fruit like half a banana or an orange. But on Sundays for a special treat, I like to make French Toast with Hearty Multigrain Bread, nonfat milk, one egg (per person) with sugar free syrup. I use a "green" nonstick skillet and just a little bit of margarine to help it brown up nicely.
