MOM23JS, Just thinking about 5 half marathons in the next 5 months makes me tired!

I have run 4 half marathons since I started running in October 2010. I have 5 more between now and January 2012 when I will do the Tinkerbell run... then comes the fun of training for a full marathon for April 2012 at Big Sur.

I'm doing my very first marathon, using the Galloway plan. I liked it because it just required 3 days a week of running and I know I can keep that up with my schedule. Technically, I should have had more experience running before contemplating a marathon, but the course limit is 16mm and I can walk faster than that now. I am not going for time, just to finish.

9.5 weeks seems close when you've been training for 6 months!! lol

And this is my first and only attempt at something bigger than a HM. So to me, it's a once in a lifetime thing and is definitely a big deal!! :)

I some time listen to music, some times to podcasts and some times nothing at all. I would never want get myself in the situation where I felt I could not run without my music.

It's nice to see some activity on this thread. I'm running my first marathon this Sunday and getting nervous. I did all the Galloway trainging and am now hoping it's enough.

You're right, keeping the mind busy is soooo important! And I'm a big believer in (and probably the only person left on the planet) NOT running with music! There's so much natural beauty around us! And even for a run that's a loop, I see new things each time around!

Clover - Wow, that's a LOT of ultras!! Good for you!! Like I said, this is my first one and might be my last... lol we'll just have to see.

Joy - No, I haven't timed my magic mile yet. But maybe this week would be a good week for that; the weather is just perfect where I live!

Thanks for your support!

Yay, Another ULTRA runner! I've been doing ultras for a couple of years now. I have done a smattering of 50Ks, a couple 50 milers, and three 12 hour timed events now (46, 56, and 49 miles) and one 24 hour run (77 miles). I'm registered for another 24 hour event in June, and plan to use Galloway walk/run for it.

That's awesome Jessika! Are you following the JG plan? Have you timed a magic-mile? I started training with a JG team in my community and had wonderful success. Since my last post (gosh in '09) I have completed two Goofy challenges (39.3 miles) using the JG method. I think the most challenging component is keeping the mind busy. With such a short loop, you are going to want to have a lot of mind games in your pocket. GOOD LUCK!

Hi guys! I'm training for an 8 hour Ultra marathon in August. It's a 3.2ish mile loop that you complete as many times as possible in 8 hours. Kinda nice so you can set your own mileage goal. I'm aiming for 30 miles. Right now, I walk and run about equally, but I'm trying to start running more than walking.

I'll be seeing them this evening for what should be the "FINAL" game in the Stanley Cup series. I'll have to ask. I know they have been all over and are strongly encouraging my husband and I to head to London and Berlin. I'll have to find out which marathons are their favs.

SeekingJoy..I know all about fear of failure. I still get a bad case of it before every marathon. You should SO do it..its worth every minute of training and overcoming that self doubt. The last few miles are almost all mental..just talking yourself into finishing. If you have run 26, you have done more than most who train..most people only do 20. You can do it!

that is so awesome about your IL's. I would love to hear the states that they have done and races they would recommend.

My ILs are in the process of running in all 50 states and 6 continents. We are debating between heading to Detroit in Oct or the Space Coast in Nov. It depends on being able to take even more time away from work.

You are absolutely correct about the Goofy. My goal is to just complete it. I've run 26 miles before but never in an organized race. I was kind of skittish to register for a marathon for a long time b/c of fear of failure. I stuck with the half. After seeing everyone walking around Disney with all their bling from the Goofy, I had to do it!

I am in the process of deciding on a fall marathon. I am trying to run marathons in different states. Right now am looking at Indianapolis.
