hey Eaglets!

I'm a little sunburned and tired from a long long hike I took today. It was beautiful, and I took some photos that I'd like to post on my page when I get a moment. It took me quite a bit longer than most folks (3.5 hrs for 5 miles!) because my ankle is still weak and sore on the steep parts so I went slowly. Still glad I did it though.

I've been enjoying getting to know you all, and wish you the best of luck with your journeys. As Debbie said, if you want to keep in touch feel free to contact me through my SparkPage or email.

OK-- today's Healthy Lifestyle - Nutrition article I read was "What To Eat This Summer".
Here's a summary of what I read:

Check out your local farmer's market.
Local food tastes better because it really is fresh (not shipped from across the country or the world)
It's healthier because you get the higher nutrient levels from just-picked produce.
Summer vegetables: beets, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, onions, peppers, potatoes, summer squash, tomatoes, zucchini. Summer fruits: apples, melons, peaches, pears, plums, raspberries, strawberries.

I was inspired to read about eating locally because I just watched "Food, Inc." I heard about this documentary last year and finally got around to seeing it. Really interesting and thought provoking, if you haven't seen it yet.

Enjoy your summer, everyone!!!!

Afternoon Eaglets my lifestyle article is a fitness article,"Diabetics and exercise:. The article warns that diabetics shoudl be careful about checking their glucose readings before entering into exercise. Exercise can cause a drop in their blood sugar during exercise. The article recommmends that a diabetic checks their blood sugar prior to exercising if it is low or normal. They might want to eat a small snack before starting to exercise. Symptoms of hypoglycemia, are weakness, dizziness, confusion, and can cause fainting.

Well my lifestyle article was fitness called "10 questions asked about fitness gadgets or gizmos".

1. Does the product sound to good to be true. is it offering results astonishly quick.

2. Does the gadget target just one area. Products that target just one area are not very sucessful.

3. Is diet or nutrition mentioned in the advertising or infomercial of the product. It not then run away. We all know that without proper nutrition along with any exercise weight loss is unlikely.

4. Are the people doing the commercials paid actors doing a dramtization. People who have actually used the product. Watch the small print on the bottom of the tv screen it must tell you if it a dramatization or actual clients.

Well there were 10 questions but after getting called away from the computer for several minutes I lost my notes. Then couldn't find the article again. So here were the top 4 that I had. See you all tomorrow.

evening Eaglets!!!

Linda, I am sorry to hear your back has gone out on you. Please take care of yourself. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Sheila and Dawn, be patient with yourselves. The weight will come off eventually. You are doing the food choices and the exercise you will get there. Don't give up on yourselves.

Katie and I got three walks in today. They were only 10 minute walks. It was too hot to be out very long today. I got some strength training in.

I need to read my article for the day. Be back later to post what I learned.

Hi!
Today was a great day! I actually walked 4.3 miles with 3.5 of it being nonstop "exercise walking." I walked a trail in the newest metro park in my area. It was beautiful and I took pictures for a later blog.
Dawn ~ It sounds like you had a beautiful day yesterday! I envy you.

good morning, fellow Eaglets!
Sorry I didn't stop by to say hello yesterday... I spent a beautiful Sunday with my husband visiting his aunt & uncle in Carpinteria, CA. It's a small beach town close to Santa Barbara. We all had a lovely time, and even got a long walk along the beach in, watching surfers and swimmers and even some dolphins!

I'm excited for the day, after writing this here I want to go on a hike in a wooded canyon near my home. I hope it doesn't get too hot though!

Sheila- I'm in the same boat as you, I also haven't seen the scale move even though I'm eating more balanced meals and exercising more. It also makes me want to push harder with it. Let's keep pushing onward and keep trying!

Linda- I'm so sorry to hear that you hurt your back! Oh, that must be difficult. Get lots of rest and I hope you can bounce back soon.

I read the Healthy Lifestyle - Fitness- "Top 6 Fitness Myths & Truths" article:
Myth 1. You can take weight off of specific body parts by doing exercises that target those areas.
Myth 2. Women who lift weights will bulk up.
Myth 3. If you can't exercise hard & often, there's really no point.
Myth 4. Performing abdominal exercises will give you a flat stomach.
Myth 5. You will burn more fat if you exercise longer at a lower intensity.
Myth 6. No Pain, No Gain!

I have to admit, I've believed #4 and #6. The truth is, you lose weight all over your body and not specific areas that you work out harder. It will gain muscle, but until you lose that fat on top it will not 'flatten' that area. Also, exercise shouldn't hurt. I will push myself sometimes, thinking 'no pain no gain' but it's best to do everything in moderation.

Happy Monday, everyone!

Morning, all!

Linda ~ I hope your back soon improves. It must be so painful and difficult and it definitely affects everything you do. I'm sending healthy thoughts and prayers your way.

It is so frustrating to be working as hard at this as I am and not seeing the scale numbers change at all! It might be because I've increased my strength work - I don't know. I'm not officially weighing until June 30, but I couldn't resist checking this morning and it shook me up to see the same number as three weeks ago! It didn't get me down or make me even consider quitting (that's new!), it just makes me want to fight harder. I didn't walk for exercise yesterday so I'm planning on at least 60 minutes of outside exercise walking today. In fact, I'm going to get going in a little while.
I'll check in with you all this afternoon or evening.
Sheila

I decided this would be an appropriate article to read and think about at this time - my brother has an appointment with his cardiologist today and my cousin just had 3 stents put in due to blockages!
Research shows that your mood, outlook, and stress levels strongly affect the body—and the heart. This means that heart disease prevention isn't just a matter of eating better or exercising; engaging in stress-reducing exercises and mind-body practices can significantly improve the health of your heart, too.
Yoga, meditation, pilates, tai chi, and deep breathing are all ways to reduce your stress and thus keep your heart stronger.

i didn't get much walking in today, but I worked with a new set of DVDs. They're from Chair Dancing - Sit Down and Tone Up Encore (strength), Simply Stretch, and Life's A Celebration: Seated Aerobics to Timeless Party Music. The aerobic dance is 45 minutes and I did it twice - once to make up for not working our yesterday. I also did the strength one (30 minutes) and the Stronger Seniors Stretch DVD. I'd forgotten how many of the stretches on that one involve the core and I'm feeling it now.
To make me "hurt" even more, I joined a challenge on the Chair Exercise team to do seated marching during at least three commercials an evening, or to do weights during at least three commercials. You know me - I had to do 3 with the marching steps and 3 with the weights, but I did just use my 3 pound weights.
Does anyone have plans for tomorrow (Monday)? I want to be sure to walk for at least 45 minutes.

Jueneau, I am with my favorite chocolate is the small Halloween bite size special dark chocolate bars that come with the mix of candy bars. Never can find the small ones by themselves. I normally try to stay away from them because it is hard to eat just one.

Sheila, I have read that about deep breathing before some where. I don't think it was here though. It is good advice though.

Linda, Dawn, and Janet hope you all had a good Sunday!

I will have to experiement with this. If I regularly eat a small piece of really good dark chocolate will I end up not triggering a binge? Will that mitigate the cravings that could derail me? Hmmmm and yummmmmmmmm!

The article I read today was “An Exercise in Proper Breathing” in the Health and Wellness Section. I guess I’ve never really thought of there being a right or wrong way of breathing so this was really interesting and informative for me!
Slow, deep breathing gets rid of carbon dioxide waste and takes plenty of clean, fresh oxygen to your brain and muscles. More blood cells get the new, oxygen-rich air instead of the same old stale stuff. Experts estimate that proper breathing helps your body eliminate toxins 15 times faster than poor, shallow breathing.
The article contains directions for a 5 to 10 minute “breathing exercise” to help you learn to improve your breathing and get the full benefits of proper breathing to help you relax and clear your head.

Sheila, that is great that the kids included you in their graduation parties. My nephew Alex just graduated June 4th. I missed his graduation and party. We stay in touch on FB. His birthday is next month.

Linda, I am going to read that article you just read. I was thought about reading it instead of the one about chocolate. Changed my mind. Good thing I did.

I will be back later.

Hello Eaglets! Todays Lifestyle article on Nutrition is "Chocolate, the not So Sinful Food". This article states that the United States is one of the largest importers of the cocoa bean. in 1995-1997 it imported between 559,000 to 600,000 metric tons. Balentine's Day is when the most chocolate is sold. The article shows that around $1 billion is sold per year and 75% is bought by men.

The question though is Chocolate is sinful. The Aztecs and their neighbors the Mayans believed that consuming chocolate would give them knowledge and power. There is no evidence of this. Studies have shown that chocolate can help prevent heart disease and helps mood by helping seratonin chemical in the brain.

Here are a few suggested tips for eating chocolate: eat dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate is better for you. Eat chocolate with foods like bananas, strawberries, or apple slices. Eat smaller pieces of chocolate at a time. Savor the piece of chocolate don't chew it.

Thanks, Linda. I always feel honored when I receive the invitations to celebrate a previous student's graduation.
What's everyone got planned for this beautiful Sunday? I just got home from church and the rest of the day is totally mine. I spent a lot of time yesterday with mom and both my brothers plan to visit with her today so I will wait until tomorrow.
It's cloudy but nice today with the temp only in the mid 70s. I'm going to use today to do some light cleaning and decluttering and then catch up on some exercise time that I've neglected the past few days. I also have some odds and ends to put together for the July Challenge, but that won't take too long. Another goal is to write my blog for this week's challenge. I'll probably be in and out of here many times today since I'm staying home.
Have a good day doing what YOU want to do!

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to stop by and say hi yesterday. I had planned to, but time just got away from me. I ended up going to 6 graduation parties/picnics so you know that my nutrition level wasn’t the greatest for yesterday. These were all kids that I had taught in second grade - I always feel if they take the time to invite someone from “so long ago” that I should take the time to stop by and congratulate them! I went to two more this afternoon. I don’t stay long at most of them but I do think it’s important for me to go. Right now, I have a major headache - I think it’s due to all the noise and confusion (teenagers sure have loud parties!) so I’m headed to bed early. I’ll talk to you all tomorrow.
Linda ~ Congratulations on getting in a long walk. I managed to get in 30 minutes of “exercise walking,” but that was all today.
Dawn ~ I hope the job fair has results for you - when you’re ready to go back to work.

This evenings article was on Fitness called " 6 Things your personal trainer wisher you wouldn't do."

1. With hold health information. Like any medication or health issues you might be on. Certain medications can affect your heart rate.

2. Complaining, personal trainers can not understand your complaining. After all if you spent the money to go to a personal trainer. You should understand their job is to push you to reach your goals.

3. Excuses, doesn't do anyone any good. The personal trainer doesn't want to hear why you didn't do your exercise or stick to your food plan.

4. Lying this comes hand in hand with making excuses. You need to be honest with your personal trainer so if a change needs to be made to your plan. She can make the change necessary.

Baggie clothes, makes it difficult for the trainer see whether or not your form is correct with exercises. So baggie clothes are a no no.

Linda, sounds like you got a great walk in tonight! Keep up the good work.

Dawn, I wish you all the best in finding a good job! You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Sheila, Janet, andJuneau hope that all 3 of you are having a great weekend.

happy Saturday everyone!

I just got home from a career fair today, got to talk to a bunch of potential employers, we'll see what happens... I'm not worried about it though. The fair was specifically for the line of work that I do, and I knew a bunch of people there, so now they know I am available for work. Secretly, I hope to get some more time off to work on getting back into shape and taking online art/computer classes to work on my skills. I've been wanting to get back into painting, too. But... gotta pay those bills!

I read an article in the Healthy Lifestyle- Wellness section, called "Stop Feeling Guilty About Every Mistake"

It was about Toxic Guilt Trips. It's OK to have a conscience and try not to let others down, etc., but it is TOXIC when you put yourself down and become your own worst enemy.

How to avoid toxic guilt:
1. Listen to that quiet nagging voice inside your head before you do something you know you shouldn't.
2. Decide not to do the thing in question
3. Act on it.

Linda- I just got an oil change a couple of days ago, too! Glad you got your blog out early, I'm still thinking about what to say

Sheila, Juneau, Debbie & Janet-- hope you are doing well and enjoying the weekend!

Good evening Eaglets, boy what a day this has been went with DH to get the oil changed and tires for the car it has pretty well stormed all day trying to get this in before it comes back around. Finally got to read Healthy lifestyles article it is as follows:

Is your diet making you fat? 50% of your caloric intake should be carbs,30%fat,20% protein
womens level of protein should be 60 grams, while men 75 grams, choose whole grains, brown rice and pastas, and heart healthy fats, avoid trans-fats.

Debbie emoticon on the 9lb loss that is awesome girl,so proud of you, stand firm with the owner and don't let them stick you.

Dawn, sometimes feeling competitive is good motivation keep up the good work...

Sheila, glad to see the knee's improving and your back in the game....

Juneau@Janet hope you had a great day, chat with you soon....

hi Eaglet friends!

I'm increasing my activity level and deciding to really go for it. Even though it's hot, ha ha. My weight has pretty much stayed the same over the past few weeks, and now I'm trying to be more diligent with tracking food and add more exercise. I've been feeling more toned and healthy over the past month, but I want to see more weight come down. I feel pretty tired now from working out more but it feels good! My husband went to the dr. today and they said he's down 19 lbs over 3 months! I guess I might be feeling a little competitive...? :)

I was able to check out an article today: Healthy Lifestyle -- Nutrition -- "Out With The Pyramid, In With The Plate".

So what's different?
- Less emphasis on grains, now more emphasis on fruit and vegetables (should be 5-9 a day).
- No mention of fats, oils and sugars as there are many different types. As in good fats and bad fats. It might have been confusing before with the pyramid.
- Protein (a nutrient) is featured instead of a type of food like beef. Most people read 'protein' as 'meat' but it is more generic because you also want to think about nuts, legumes, beans
as a source of protein, not just meat.
Some guidelines:
If you fill this plate just once per meal, you'll probably be on your way to balancing your calorie intake.
- Enjoy your food but eat less!
- Watch your portion size
- Make 1/2 of your plate fruits and vegetables
- Make at least 1/2 of your grains whole grains
- Switch to fat free or low-fat milk, yogurt or cheese
- Choose foods with lower sodium
- Drink more water!!

Debbie, congrats on losing 9 lbs over the past few months!!! Yay! And best of luck to you with the apartment manager vs. the owner.

I hope you all are enjoying your Friday!!!

Dawn

Hello Eaglets!!!! I did get my lifestyle in Wellness article read today! It was called Healing the mind and body through Yoga! Yoga is a good exercise not only for the body. It is also a is good for relieving stress. The aritcle says one of major factors for stress is work. I can relate to that since I think my stress levels dropped quite a bit after retirement. For those beginners should as like any new exercise get advice from a doctor. Yoga helps strengthen muscle, stretches joints and ligaments. The stretching of the joints can help with arthritis.

Thank you all for the support with my problem with apt complex. I have a call into the owner we will see if he calls me back. Good news stepped on the scale this morning and I have lost 9lbs in the past 2 1/2 months. Since my exercising was extremely limited for 2 months I feel this is a good sign.

Dawn, sounds like Calf. is having weather like we are having here in Okla. They are predicting even higher temps next week.

Linda, how is the knee feeling?

Juneau, I hope you are taking it easy. I hope you get well soon.

Linda and Janet, hope you both are having a good day.

I will try to be back later. I am going to write my blog for this week.

hello there fellow Eaglets!!

I got back yesterday from my parents' place at the beach, and WOW is it HOT back at home!!! I think it got up to 100 degrees yesterday and close to it again today. I still manage to get in some long walks in the early mornings and strength training at home. My husband and I have been challenging each other to do pushups and situps every day. I also plan on going to the gym again, starting tomorrow.

OK... I read the Healthy Lifestyle - Motivation section- article called "Moderation In All Things". It was a good article, and said that 95% of people who put themselves on a restrictive diet to lose weight will put the weight back on when they return to "normal" eating again. What would be considered to be moderate would be: 1-2 lbs. lost per week, and tolerable calorie restriction combined with exercise. It should be a healthy, balanced, enjoyable lifestyle to keep with you forever... not just doing a liquid diet or diet pills or starving yourself, etc.

Sheila- I'm so happy to hear that you are feeling stronger and stronger and that you are walking 2 miles every day!! That is wonderful! And its good that you're learning what you can and cannot do with knee pain. I can relate with my ankle recovery. Little by little, it will get better.

Linda- Maybe all the heat we're getting in California will travel across and replace your rainy weather... do you enjoy the rain? With the exception of having your bones hurt, sorry to hear that.

Debbie- Wow, your apt manager sounds awful. Fight the good fight!!! She seems petty and stupid to run out all of the good tenants. If I were the owner, I'd be furious that some good tenants are leaving because of her... she'd be fired for sure. No problem about venting here... you should! We are here to support you and listen. :)

Juneau- Sorry to hear that you fell at work! How is your shoulder and wrist? Are you doing ok?

Janet- Hope you are enjoying the summer so far!

---Dawn

Hi, friends!
Good day today in spite of the rain. SPHAPPYHIKER and I managed to meet and walk between showers. Her boys walked with us and then we gave them a long "playground" time while we sat on a bench and talked.
I am feeling stronger and stronger - today is Day 5 back strictly on track in all areas. I still have knee pain and am learning what I can and cannot do.
Sheila

Linda ~ Rainy weather here too - achy bones also!

Debbie ~ It definitely sounds like she’s on a power trip and you need to speak to one of the owners. I was in a complex that changed managers and went downhill quickly. It got to the point that I was afraid going to my car and knew it was time to move. Ironically, there was a flood and the complex was closed for several months. I lost almost everything I owned. There was no power to the building when we could finally get in to salvage whatever possible. I said I was leaving and they fought me on breaking my lease (but didn’t offer a place to stay until renovations were complete). They finally agreed but tried to charge me for not cleaning the apartment! It was filled with black mold and gunk from the flood waters! How do you clean with no power anyway! My advice to you is to get out when you can and don’t look back.

Juneau ~ How are you feeling today?

Janet & Dawn ~ I hope things are going well for you!

Motivation Articles - Picking Yourself Back Up
5 Things You Can Learn from Your Mistakes: Find Life Lessons When You're Less Than Perfect
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat
io
n_articles.asp?id=1150

A statement in the last paragraph really had meaning for me: “Mistakes offer us chances to learn and grow, and in these failures, you'll find wisdom for reaching any goal, be it weight-loss, health, fitness, professional or something else.” I need to start looking at my “mistakes” as learning experiences!
1.Take Time Off
All work and no play doesn't just make Jack a dull boy; it also makes us sad, unhappy and less productive individuals. In order for you to reach any goal, you need to take time to recharge those batteries and relax.
2. Don't Force It
You can't force things to happen. No matter how much you want something or how hard you work to make it happen, sometimes you just have to wait it out. Whether it's your perfect job or those last 10 pounds, life is a process. Instead, try to trust that you're on the right path, and keep at it.
Respect Your Limits
If you're really fatigued, take a day off. If you're sick and have no energy, rest. Pushing through physical pain, emotional pain, and fatigue is never a good idea. Listen closely to what your body is telling you, and treat it like you would your best friend. Be loving, kind and respectful.
Go with the Flow
Life is a journey that doesn't come with a map. You can't always see the destination or every curve, dip or detour along the way, so you might as well enjoy the process (and the ups and downs).
5. Enjoy Now
Why wait for to reach your goal to be happy, wear that dress, or take that vacation? Life is too short. Feel good about yourself today and give yourself the permission and freedom to be completely happy with yourself and your circumstances right now.

Thanks for the support Juneau! I don't intend to back down from this fight. Ray and I talked to of the other tenants that have been here longer than the apt manager. We all 3 have agreed not to sign the amendment

The lifestyle article I read today was under nutrition. It was Pyramid vs Plate. The Pyramid nutritional plan that was made up in 1991 by the USDA. Has finally been replaced by the Plate. The differences is that the Pyramid largest portion at the bottom of the was for grains. It also had a very small portion for fats and oils. The plate recommends that half the plate be for fruits and veggies, then carbs and protein. Dairy is normally set off to the side of the plate. The plate recommends whole grains.

After reading this article I find that I actually follow this plan a lot better than I ever followed the Pyramid Plan.

Good evening Eaglets!!!!! Today has been good and bad for me. Food and exercise has been good. Personally it has kind of sucked. I am now fighting with my apt manager over an amendment to my lease. She thinks she is going to get me to sign. Ray and I only have until the end of Sept before we are out of here. I am not amending my lease in any way at this point. Yes, I am ranting a bit. The manager has some how gotten this power complex the last ocuple of months. She has run off all of the decent tenants that lived here prior to her taking over except for about 5 of us. We are all systematically moving out. This is not the same quiet complex we moved into 15 months ago. We no longer have on site security, getting anything fixed around here has gotten to the point it takes 1 to 2 weeks if the office doesn't loose the work order. Now she wants us to wear wrist bands to prove we have the right to swim in the apt pool. If we don't have our wrist band on they will make us leave. If we lose our wrist band they will charge us $5. If we don't comply they can evict us. I think you get the idea why I am refusing to sign this amendment. I have made up my mind I am going to find the phone # for one of the owners of this property. I have it somewhere around here. Sorry I just needed to vent.

Sheila, I am glad you are getting your walking in. Be careful with those DVD exercises though.

Juneau, sorry to hear you got hurt at work. Take care of yourself.

Linda, Janet, and Dawn, I you all having a great day!

Nutrition Articles; Quick and Easy
“Stop and Chew Your Dinner -The Benefits of Slowing Down & Chewing More” (By Liza Barnes, Health Educator)
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutriti
on
_articles.asp?id=963

Chewing your food thoroughly is actually the first step in the complex process of digestion, and if you glaze over it, just chewing the minimum amount of times necessary to get the food down your esophagus, you’re actually compromising this process. And it’s a mistake many people make.
The saliva that coats your food as you chew actually contains digestive enzymes that begin to digest your food before you even swallow it. The enzymes alpha-amylase and lingual lipase begin digesting carbohydrates and fats, reducing the amount of work for which the stomach will be responsible. And it isn’t just a nice gesture. If food fragments are swallowed un-chewed, not only do nutrients remain locked in the fragments, but these fragments create an environment in the colon that is conducive todigestive distress—bacterial overgrowth, gas, and bloating.
Chewing your food thoroughly and eating your meals more slowly has another benefit. It might shrink your waistline—and not just because you’ll have less bloating and indigestion. Eating more slowly gives your body a chance to tell your mind that it’s full, so that you stop eating before you go overboard.

Well, I've walked at least two miles every day this week and my knee is holding up okay. I've been doing at least 30 minutes with a chair exercise DVD and also some strength exercises every day to. I don't get hungry when I exercise so that's a good thing. I had my first "problem" today when I was using the DVD "Chair Exercise for Everyone" and tried to do the whole workout. One part, that I usually don't do, involves standing and doing lunges and squats. I don't know why I even attempted it and soon gave up - it really made my knee hurt. I went on and did the seated section of it - about 20 minutes. That's one of my favorite exercise DVD's and it has a scratch on it BUT I saw it on sale in the Traditions catalogue today - only $8! I think I'll order three - one for me, one for a friend, and one as a back up!
I hope everyone had a good day. I'm elated that I've had four days on track! That's the longest I've managed to stay on track in quite a while!
Stay positive,
Sheila

Juneau2010 ~ I’m so sorry to hear about your fall. Take it easy and give your body time to heal. I know it took almost three weeks for my knee to not hurt when I moved at all, so don’t rush things.

Linda ~ We’ve had unbelievable storms here, too - a really bad one last night. There was so much hail that my yard looked like it had snowed. I walked at the park today and my hair was wringing wet from the humidity - of course that made it curlier than I like!

Debbie ~ My Peaches’ best friend is a little French bulldog named Ricky Bob. You should see those two run! Quite a site - shaggy, white Peaches with fur floating in the breeze and black, skinny, pug-nosed Ricky trying to keep up with her. Ricky’s owner says it’s a good thing we got Peaches spayed - “pups from those two would have been weird looking creatures!”

I fell at work today and had to go to the workers comp clinic. Nothing serious, nothing torn or broken, just inflamed. Great painkillers for my shoulder and wrist. I have ice and a splint )can't wear it and type!)

I read a news article that says fries, soda and stuff like that are causes of obesity (duh!) and, coupled with inactivity like watching TV....

Healthy Lifestyle-Nutrition Article, Slow down when you eat, take the time to prepare and take at least 20 to 30 minutes to eat your dinner,in the fast paced world we live in this becomes a challenge, and it can cost us health wise and weight wise, eating in a fast paced hurry up way we tend to overeat because our brain doesn't get the signal it's full when we eat to fast, also,we tend to get bloated and feel bad and this can cause acid reflux,as well as other medical problems. Here are a few tips from the article.

1.Take the time to prepare and sit down to a meal.
2. Turn off tv,computer, and all other distractions.
3 Take the time to savor the meal.
4. put you fork down in between bites chew and enjoy, this gives the brain the signals it needs to know when you are full, and you don't overeat.

Interesting article I enjoyed reading this.....

GOMEIN2011, I hope your headache gets lost and not found!

I am still hobbled with this tendonitis. I have also found myself eating because I am stressed and upset. Why is it when we eat emotionally, we don't eat the healthy stuff?!

I hope the rest of you are staying hydrated - it is HOT here!

Good evening my friends, hope all has had a wonderful day, sort of out of it today I have had a headache all day got up with it this morning but still went for my walk and exercised today, it may be the weather hot and sticky and that brought rain and storms the was 97 before the rain cooled it down. Thunderstorms forecast all week I'll be sure to walk in the AM when it's not as hot and humid.

Debbie, so glad you had a nice day, I've never been to a dog show, but seen on tv, I like to watch them. My Mother in law was my second Mom too I helped take care of both my DH Parents and I don't regret 1 minute of it, I still miss them, they were good to me...

Dawn,Have fun at your Parents enjoy and have loads of fun....

Sheila, I am so happy to hear you are doing better,Please take care and don't overdo so you can come back with us next week we need you, and miss you....

Janet@Juneau, hope your week is going well!!

Today's article was about Research shows that sleeping in a hammock can help people fall asleep faster. A study has shown that the rocking motion of a rocking chair helps a baby fall asleep and this same rocking motion can help adults fall asleep. This study was done where half the people were allowed to sleep on a hammock type bed that swayed back and forth. The other half slept in a motionless hammock. Those in the swaying hammock fell asleep faster and fell into N2 sleep longer than those who were in the motionless bed.

I found this an interesting read.

Afternoon Eaglets!!!!!! I woke up to a beautiful day today. Not too hot or cold! Ray and I took Katie to the doggie park this moring for a couple of hours. She met up with her friend Loki (Husky). They ran around the big dog run for a couple of hours chasing each other an stretching their legs. Ray and I got visit with Loki's owner for quite a while. Talk about the two dog shows that will be here the end of the month. I am thinking about going to watch and take a look around. It has been a few years since I went to a dog show.

Sheila, great news from the doctor! Don't over do it. We would love to have you back with us for the last week's challenge for this month.

Dawn, hope you are enjoying your visit with your parents.

Linda, it is good to remember where we come from. Honoring our parents in this way is a way to remember them. My mom was the last one to pass. She treated Ray like her own son. Ray's mom was like a second mom to me. I will never forget her telling her friends that I was her future daughter in law. This was not long after I first met her. Long before Ray and I ever spoke of marriage. It was nice to know that she accepted me so quickly.

Well I need to read an article, then I promised my great niece we would go swimming today. I will check back with you all later.

hi Eaglets!
I am currently visiting my parents until tomorrow, but trying to keep up with this week's challenge anyway!
We all just went on a 2 hour walk/hike along the beach, how wonderful it is to share exercise with family.
Sheila, I'm so happy that you are on your way back to going on walks... I know what you mean, with it feeling OK going up hill but downhill it hurts. Just take it easy and give it some time.
Juneau, I agree also that kids should learn to swim!
I hope everyone is having a great week so far!!!

Here's my latest update - the doctor has released me for "moderate walking and exercise." Somehow I think she and I have different ideas of what moderate means. I did meet Mari (SPHAPPYHIKER) and her 3 boys (4,6, and 7) at the park yesterday and we walked a slow 2.4 miles. We avoided the highest hill but that was the only big "change" I made in the trail we usually walk. We added a .5 mile that included a smaller hill through the woods. I have no problem going up the hill (at least with my knee; breathing was another story) but coming down does cause pain. Our walk was not only slow because I was walking like the "old lady" I am (Mari is 16 years younger than me) but the boys and my 8 month old pup didn't help! It was instant love between those four!
I'm thinking about rejoining the challenge for week 4 but am going to wait and see how my knee does after some seated aerobics and strength today, along with a 30 minute walk.
Stay focused, determined, and positive!
Sheila

My news health article was Many using the Preventive Health Screening and it being linked to Health Care Reform. Medicare says that the program of the Free preventive screening has helped seniors improve their health. Critics say that though the screening may find problems early it does not actually improve their health.

Juneau, I am a firm believer that all kids should learn to swim. I didn't learn how to swim till I was a teenager. I think the younger the better less traumatic.

Linda, sounds like you had a great day with Family. Ray and mine parents have both passed but we do remember them each on Mother's and Father's day by placing flowers on their graves.

Well the end of the week is approaching remember I will need everyone's points added up on your templates on Wednesday by 1pm so I can get them to Sheila on time.
