So as with any January the school I work for started a 'fitness challenge'. I grabbed a few girls from work and I've been dragging them with me on this journey. Well although I'm strictly trying to follow my weight training, I let them pick my workout yesterday. Ended up in the pool. Not a bad workout. I did it, I was social. And I think I may have found something new to do. emoticon

Wednesday night I mentioned that I went for a walk with my youngest son. What I didn't mention was that it's actually amazing to ME that I can move now. I'm still not walking marathons by any means...I'm not even up to a 5K yet...but I remember when I couldn't walk from the parking garage to the front of the museum (IN DECEMBER!!!) without stopping & being out of breath & sweating!!! So now for me to walk all over that area is just amazing to me!!! My changes are incredibly slow by ANYONE else's standards...but they make me happy when I allow myself to get off the self-criticism pot & just ENJOY them!!!

Not only did I do Zumba last night, but this morning after I picked the Boy up from work, I went on a walk. It wasn't a LONG walk but it's definitely something to build on. And I was ever so pleased with myself. Go me!!!

I have not been consistent with my exercise but I am trying. this last week I went for a long walk and ended up going for over 45min. I didn't have to stop or think and honestly I think I could have gone even longer! I was impressed how easy I found it, I guess proper scenery and a good audio book is key I didn't even think I was exercising just having a good time and it felt good to be alone. I enjoyed it so much I took my parents to show them where I went a couple days later.

I play games with myself at Zumba to ensure that I don't sit down at all or much. Last night I only sat down once & it was for less than a minute. I really kicked my own tail at Zumba last night & I feel really good about it!!!

I got through my birthday (on the 15th) by staying on food plan, stayed within my points range with some points to spare, and did a workout.
That was the best NSV ever this week for me.

Goo Morning Girlies--Actually it's just a bit after noon here on the East Coast.

This morning I was in the work kitchen getting ready to make myself an English muffin. And automatically I kept rooting around in my bag for something with protein. Because of course protein keeps you fuller longer. I found some cottage cheese & ate that with my EM.

But really...who am I? When did I start having healthy eating strategies? Score!!! Victory!

I'm still going Girlies. My distance goal was 65 miles for September & I'm right at the doorstep of 73 miles. So let's say I get 75 miles in September. What should I set my goal at for October? 85??? OMG!!! I'm scared!!! LOL!

Yes, it's going here too for when I need reminding! I have hit my monthly goal of 65 miles already (Sept 25th).

Also...I tried on a 2X shirt over the weekend & it fit!!! Not ALL 2Xs fit...but this one did so I was SUPER excited!!!

@MONIQUEDVA I hear ya! I won't buy myself new things unless I really, really, really need them! I got holes in a shirt I've had for 20 years this week and it really bummed me out. The shirt is too big now, but it is supper comfortable!

I am so inspired by your gym visits. I really need to step up my game!

My NSV for last week was getting to the gym 3 times AND to the pool once. You really can move in the water ways you just cannot move on land.

My rewards would be along the lines of pedis, massages, facials. And things I really need but don't get myself like new shoes & clothes.

@MONIQUEDVA Little things I won't usually buy myself. I don't really like make-up but I have learned to face the facts that I look better with it on and I feel more professional so I am giong to reward myself with something like this:

1 week - new eyeliner
2 weeks - new nailpolish
3 weeks - new lipstick
4 weeks - new pair of shoes (I only have a few pairs but everyone can use more right?)

I'm going to make a list of things I want and set up my chart.

@MONIQUEDVA great job getting in the miles! I really need to work on that!

Each day I am working to stay in my calorie range. I'm setting up a reward chart for myself. It worked so well with getting my chores done that I am going to give it a try.

For July...I set a goal of 60 miles worth of steps. And I did NOT quite make it. So what is the Victory in that you ask? I am so close I could probably SPIT to 60. And you know what that means? It means it's time to UP my goal!!!

65 miles for August!!! It's only a little over 2 miles per day. I also have to go back to getting OUT of my chair during the day instead of keeping my BOOTY sitting in the chair until 12-1-even 2 pm!!!

Oh my gosh!!! @AMAOLIVIA this does NOT seem silly at all. Between my big ole butt & my crappy knees, I haven't taken a bath in years--probably DECADES. Soooooooooooo...even with the bad knees, if I could get to a point where I could maneuver enough to take a bath, that would rock my world. I GET YOU!!!

@MONIQUEDVA Doesn't that feel great to just be able to go in and get a shirt anywhere! That is so awesome!


MY NSV is realizing I could take a bath again. Sitting in the tub used to be awkward at best with my size. So the other day I wanted to take a bath and soak not just my usual shower. So I sat down in the tub and low and behold I fit again and I was able to have a nice soak. It may seem silly to some but it was a great thing for me!

I've been in TJ Maxx a LOT lately. My youngest will be going off to college in August & there are some things he will need...so TJ Maxx is my friend. I went in last night looking for a set of Navy blue pillowcases which they did not have. So I stopped for a quick minute in the "PLUS" section. Sometimes I find things & sometimes I just laugh at what they THINK I will wear. I found an aqua nicer t-shirt that I could wear to work & it was only $9.99 so I grabbed it. Holding it up to my chest to see if the boobs would fit...looked good.

This morning was the moment of truth & that shirt just slid right on. And it SHOCKED me. There was no stretching or trying or holding my breath. Now let me be honest...the shirt is a 3X but coming from the higher end of 4X & this is a 3X in a "Regular" store not a "Big Girl" store. So grabbing something "Off the rack" & it actually fitting is still a shocker for me.

I know...I know...I made this my topic for the day but I'm excited.

I've gone to the gym 2 days in a row!!! Last night I did 20 minutes on the TM. It was right at 3/4 of a mile. And YES! when I got up this morning my legs were sore! emoticon

I went to the darn gym last night!!! Yeah me!!! My Zumba punch card ran out & a new one is not in my budget just yet. So since I'm already paying for the gym...I went. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill. I start out REALLY slow. I do the first minute on 1.5. I add an increment every minute for the first 5 minutes. Then I add an increment every 5 minutes after that. So I got a full mile in! Super excited about that!!!

Then I did "Day 1" of the weights & exercises that the Trainer guy taught me. So that's exciting. And OMG does a nice HOT shower feel good after a hard, sweaty workout!!!

My NSV today is that after I picked the boy up from work at 6 am, I decided I would go on a little walk while it was still (sort of) cool outside. So I walked the 2 blocks from my house to the middle school & then home. It's right under half a mile. And I'm so stinking proud of myself. I did something!!! Yay me!!!

Oh that is GREAT news Ginger!!! I'll keep y'all in my thoughts. Even if you just join the pool or the Y for him to rehab & it HELPS him I think it would be worth it. You don't want him to re-injure it, but you want him to get stronger & healthier for sure. And what's better in hot weather than going for a dip in the pool? I know *I* love the water!!!

My NSV is that I finally bought some new pants. My "middle" seems to not want to leave me...so even tho my pants were getting baggy in other places, they were still fitting in the waist. But I was walking somewhere that had a reflective door & I realized just HOW HORRIBLE my old pants looked. I almost looked like a homeless person. They were ridiculous. So I ordered 2 pair of pants in size 28 & they FIT & look VERY nice. And I haven't been out of 30s/32s in I don't know how long. So while a 28 is still HUGE, it's a VICTORY for me!!!

Mo, There is an indoor pool at a gym in town and the local YMCA. We have to have a membership to both. We are members of a gym that doesn't have a pool. We may just join the gym with the pool though so he can get his exercise in. We went to the doctor yesterday and she said there was significant bone growth in his ankle joint! Praise the Lord! The last couple of times we have gone there has not been much if any bone growth. He gets to start being out of his brace some and he is so excited. I feel like this is a victory for both of us!

Ginger!!! Wow that's a lot. Love & healing out to you & hubs!!! Do y'all like the water? Is there a pool anywhere near you that you could either swim in or even walk laps in? It's GREAT exercise & not stressful on the body b/ the water makes you buoyant.

My NSV is that for Easter dessert we had angel food cake with strawberries. It felt like SUCH a win versus a plate full of frosting or ice cream or other sugar.

I am glad to be back! I am doing better. We hired a new person at work back in October and have been doing lots of training. Since I am responsible for that, I have been really tied up. My husband twisted his ankle in September and they discovered he had 2 cysts in his ankle joint along with gout. He had surgery at the end of September to put bone graft in the joint. He was out of work until February. It has been a bit rough around here! He went from cast, to boot to now a brace. Hopefully he will be out of that in the next couple of months. We have done physical therapy and lots of doctors appointments. They also discovered his vitamin D was really low and have been working to correct that. I have been a little absent with all this going on. I am trying to get back in the swing of things. I have not gained any weight though, I have actually lost some which I am so excited about. I worried that with all this stress and him being down that I would gain some. He wants so badly to be back 100%, but his ankle joint has not completely grown back yet. He gained some and is trying to lose by decreasing his portions and drinking more water. Since he is working too it helps me.

Hey Girlires~~I've been doing Zumba for about 7 months now--generally once or twice a week. I started out in a FREE class at the library & now go to a class about 10 minutes up the road from my house. Due to the part time job, I can't go on Saturdays anymore so I wanted to find another Zumba class to do. I went to a different class on Thursday night & the instructor turned me out, flipped me up, broke me down & made me SWEAT!!! It was INSANE & I loved it!!! Can't wait to go back this week!! Don't doubt yourself...you never know what you can do when you put your mind to it!!!

Got a brisk walk in today, and at the University I did 220 steps!!!

Woohooo feeling great about that. Steps are hard for me at the moment.

Woohoooo Mo, that's awesome !!

Today, my NSV was doing steps.
I went to the University campus and looked at the long flight of stairs (i hate steps) and i did them 3 times. Also, I took my walk a lot further and did some hiking at the river.

Nature makes me happy!

I've gone on walks the past 2 nights. It's cold to me!!! But I put my hat on & I tuck my hands in my sleeves & I go do it. Last night there was a shoot-out or something going on around the corner & I STILL went!!!

emoticon Mo~~~~~ I do a lot of things around the house cleaning and going shopping and I consider this my exercise. I am working on doing exercise in the morning, but not to much luck. Yesterday...it was a beautiful sunny fall day. We packed up the dog & went to the park. I walked a full mile in the park & I didn't die. I have a goal of being able to walk a mile without stopping. I'm not there yet...but I am well on my way! Yay me!!!

* Went to a craft show this morning. Couldn't park RIGHT by the door. Had to park father down & walk. There was a time when I would have just said F* it & not gone. Not today. I parked. I walked in. Did my circuit. Visited with some peeps & walked out.

* Being able to put on 3Xs from plus sized stores AND regular size stores & never having the "moment of truth" wondering if they will fit. Now I know sizing is NEVER the same across the board, but this feels like such a WIN to me!!!

* After Zumba wanting to go to the park & walk MORE while I was energized & ready.

* Doing yardwork. Not being the one pointing & making someone else do all the work!!! (Followed closely by my 17 year old asking WHY i waited until he was 17 to decide that I LIKED yard work! LOL!)

You're so sweet Mo. I just have a job where I have to walk a lot and now I am able to do it with less pain than I had before! I like walking and I go out of my way to walk more each day. That means I email less and stop by my coworkers rooms to talk instead. It also means I go pick up the students that I work with instead of having them come to my room.

I wasn't able to walk very well a year or so ago because of my knees, but now they feel much better and I actually enjoy walking around!

Slow by steady wins the race. I'm not the fastest walker that I know, but I am much better off that I was last year!

I know a lot of folks don't like comparisons. And I think if we are comparing ourselves to someone else in an effort to make ourselves seem LESS THAN someone else, that's painful & destructive. But I am about to compare myself to someone because I want to do what they have done & to do that, I need to emulate their habits more.

A HUGE shout out to emoticon emoticon emoticon AMAOLIVIA because she walked 29 miles LAST WEEK!!! I'm in the stage where I put 30 to 35 miles in per MONTH. I am trying to get to 40 miles this MONTH!!! And Ms Olivia walked 29 miles last week. That is HUGE! That is inspirational!!! That is noteworthy! I guess that's how that 115 pound weight loss comes about. She is putting good habits together in her arsenal & she is utilizing them.

Please help me in congratulating AMAOLIVIA not just on how many steps she walks in a week, but on the positive changes she is making in her life!!!

So the hurricane trucked thru here & brought LOTS of water & wind. I had a friend come over to look at the eave of my house & he brought his chainsaw so he could cut up a HUGE tree limb in my yard. So me & the Boy started picking up branches & moving them to the median. I kept going the whole time. Bending & picking up & carrying branches big & small to the median. We worked for a good hour & a half to 2 hours & I didn't have to stop to sit down. No resting. I just FEEL so darn different these days!!! And if I feel this good after 50 pounds...how good will I feel after 100???

Last Sunday I decided to move all of Mr Man's books out of my bedroom. They are now in alphabetized piles on the floor of the bedroom belonging to the boy who is off at college. 11 years of books...easily over 100...maybe closer to 200. I also got a few off of the bookshelves downstairs. But I put those ON the stairs & I've been carrying 2-3 up with me every time I go upstairs.

Now I am starting to go thru & get rid of. Do any of you like mysteries/thrillers?

I'm doing the fitness thing & I'm doing it MY way!!! Yesterday I did a ZUMBA class in the morning & I also managed to get 2 miles worth of steps in. Today...I knew that walking outside might be hard today (thunderstorms) so I went to Lowe's & walked twice around the store before I did my shopping. It's not about HOW you do it...it's about getting it done!!!

Today my NSV is definitely a bit of an energy surge.
Felt like my workout wasn't as difficult, and was able to add two 30 second intervals of running into my 30 min walk (so I finished 2 minutes earlier)..

Also added 10 more squats, 5 more calf raises, and additional minutes on my Cardio Kickboxing DVD. 3 days ago I did 7 mins, today I completed 15!

AMAOLIVIA walked 2 miles (in the heat!!!). One year & a few days ago, she wasn't able to walk that far.

JLDACQ tried a yoga class. She stepped out of her comfort zone & gave it a try!

COCOSMAMA signed up for a 5K this fall. She's going to be doing the 5K Crab Crawl!!!

SANSAN3169 dropped her A1C numbers way down!!!

OK...so you've joined a team called Girlies Ditching 100+ pounds. You are well aware that you are on a LONG journey. The weight didn't go ON overnight & it isn't going to come OFF overnight either. It's ok. It is what it is. Right?

Well yes...and no. Generally speaking you start out going gangbusters & you see the scale moving DOWNWARD. You're eating right. You're exercising. It's fun. It's exciting. 5 pounds gone...then 10...then 20...then more...

AND THEN...the scale stops moving. It hovers at some place better than before but definitely NOT your goal. So how do you stay inspired & motivated & on the road to doing the right things? One way is to look at your NSVs. We all have them. They somehow don't seem as EXCITING as scale victories, but they are just as important. I'm going to share a few of yours that I can remember. Then PLEASE...share your own. And come back & re-read the thread OFTEN when you need a pick-me-up or a moment of inspiration.
