RAMICHAEL - I am lazy, 86 years old, and watch what I eat. Entering the food I eat in sparks nutrition helps me when I get too far from the straight & narrow. For me, Paleo is the path. It helped me lose 30 pounds, and reduced cravings. My exercise & vitamin D is my block walk to my rural mailbox. My current weakness is bread, which is a no, no on Paleo.

Have you chosen your plan yet? Low carb seems to be a favorite healthy choice nowadays.

Hi Arlene. Welcome to our Team.

As Miller said, the GENERAL TEAM CHAT thread is a great place to head to.

Given that you are in the process of quitting smoking, I wouldn't try to do too much more re changes at this time. Quitting smoking is probably the biggest thing that you could ever do to help improve your health situation.

Take baby steps with the others. Just one change with nutrition and one change re exercise and allow your mind and body to get used to those changes before extending on it. If you eat very little fruit/vege, then I would likely start there. Replace 1 piece of junk and have 1 piece of fruit/vege in it's place.

I get the bulk of my exercise by putting my groceries and my laundry away one at a time. I can get a 15minute (30 minutes if I do groc AND laundry at the same time.) The beauty of this is that it doesn't seem like work, but it also doesn't seem like exercise, so for me, it is a win/win situation emoticon

Sometimes when I am talking to my sister on the phone I will walk round and round at a brisk pace. Given we can talk for quite some time, I can get a good bit of extra walking in that way too :-)

emoticon Hi Arlene and welcome to the team!!! Most of us do our chatting and give support on the GENERAL TEAM CHAT thread. We love to support and help each other in our daily lives and in our pursuit of healthier lifestyles!!!

I consider myself to be a lazy person who eats badly sometimes (too many sweets!!), but I have recently begun making small changes again. I've lost over 30 pounds since joining SparkPeople years ago. I want to lose more and one way I'm working toward that is by add more vegetables to my meal plans. My doctor recently told my husband and me that we need to eat more protein and veggies and fewer carbs, so that's what we're trying to do. So far, so good!!

I would suggest starting small and taking baby steps toward your goals. Small steps are sustainable and give us a sense of accomplishment. Under the "CHALLENGES" tab on the SparkPeople pages, you will find a Calendar Challenge called the "21 Day New Member Challenge." Doing that Challenge is an awesome way to learn about SparkPeople and get a good start!

I hope to see you posting on the General Team Chat thread. Just introduce yourself there and you'll find support. I don't know about others, but I don't text any Spark friends, though I have found many good and special friends here that I feel close to.

Hello Everyone!

Currently, I am a lazy person who eats badly. I want to be an active person who eats better.

I'd like to find some friends my age (50s) who are willing to listen to my stumbles and celebrate my victories as I strive to quit smoking, start exercising, and lose at least 35 pounds. I also want to listen to their woes and celebrate their victories. I know that without moral support, I will fail.

Is conversation with this team limited to this website, or do any of you text each other?
