I used to drink a ton of diet soda. I still enjoy it once in a while but I notice I just feel better (and not bloated) when I drink lots of water.

I was seriously addicted to diet cokes and coke zero, but I've cut that out and now just drink water and coffee for the caffeine boost I need. I find that I don't really crave sodas any more. Occasionally, I'll want one, but only if I'm feeling dehydrated.
I don't think I could give up my coffee, but I'm glad that I'm not obsessed with diet sodas anymore.

I use to be a Diet Coke maniac! Since I've joined Spark and started to make conscious efforts towards my overall health and fitness, I almost prefer the water to the soda....kind of like how I prefer fruits to candy now.

I have always hated Diet Pop. Just couldn't get past the aspertaine taste. However I do have a problem with reg pop like DR.Pepper. I have cut them out since december....with the excpetion of a Gin and Tonic now and then (Better for me then the Rum and Cokes I used to Drink) and have flet a lot less sluggish and havn't been wanting sweets as much. Though it might be because of a combination of everything I'm doing not just the Pop.

I just gave up soda last week because I was worried about bone loss and I'd heard that it was so bad for you - without specifics. Thanks so much for this thread - the information has totally reinforced my decision. And now I know all the reasons I made the right call. emoticon

Back in December I was visiting one of my sparkteams and someone posted the harmful effects of diet pop. The article kinda scared me with talks of formaldehyde and i haven't drank it since. I just keep thinking of poison everytime I try to drink it...

I loved soda, it was all i drank. But when i first started losing weight in sept of 2008, i cut it out completely. Now a year later i only have a couple sprites a month.

I read an article once saying even though diet soda has no calories, it can still make you gain weight from all the other chemicals and ingredients in it. If you absolutely cant live without it, try drinking one only after drinking all of your water. This has helped me a lot.

Life is short, break the rules, forgive quickly, kiss slowly, love truly, laugh uncontrollably; and never regret anything that made you smile.

Dark sodas (cola) do have a harmful effect on bones, especially if you drink a ton of them. However, other kinds of light soda (sprite, ginger ale, 7up) don't have that acid in it that leeches calcium from the bones, so they're not as bad.

We used to keep our fridge stocked with diet soda, now we're trying to drink more water, hot tea and the like and only drink diet soda when we're out to eat and yada yada. I can't imagine having a couple of diet sodas a week will really do that much harm. After all, lifestyle changes are supposed to be about everything in moderation, right?

I've read from multiple sources that if you have a sweet tooth, your body thinks that you are drinking sugar when you have diet soda. Therefore, it continues to crave sweets. I think that's how it works!

I was a major diet coke addict for years. I just gave it up in December and am still diet coke free. I feel better now and have rediscovered my love of water - which greatly helps weight loss.

There is all kinds of scientific evidence and studies done that show how the fake sugar in diet soda messes up your insulin resistance and puts you on a crazy roller coaster ride of hunger highs then energy lows - and then you drink another soda to perk back up - and you start all over again.

Hey - trust me - if I could give it up .. ANYONE can give up diet soda...

I was a Diet Pepsi addict for years lol. That was all I would drink. Over the years I cut back alot. But since I have Crohn's, I decided to cut any pop out of my diet because the carbonation can lead to bloating. I still will drink a pop if I really want it, but it's rare that I want one now. I started drinking more water and tea. Eventually I cut out the tea too. Now I drink water all day long, and I feel better for it. I never realized how much my body was depending upon the caffeine.
But I agree, in moderation, it's fine. But if you are drinking a pop instead of drinking water, then you need to cut back. In the past 7 months, I have lost 10 inches off my waist, with out much exercise in the last 4-3. I contribute alot of it to me cutting out pop.

If you get bored with water - herbal tea is amazing! Crystal light is good too to spice it up. Lemon water is my absolute FAVORITE!

Diet soda isn't the devil. Like 99% of things, it is okay in moderation. One or two a week? You are probably okay. 2 a day? Probably need to take a look at things. While diet soda has the artificial sugars and other yucky things in it... Personally, I would look at it like this. Are you drinking soda instead of your water? You need to think about changing your habits. Are you drinking soda on top of your water? Then you might be okay, as long as you are using moderation!

Imperfection is important. If we were all perfect, then there would be no such thing as growth, and everyone would be extremely boring, which is, paradoxically, not that perfect.-- Dr. Matt

I too love diet Pepsi. Giving it up was very hard, and I do still have 1-2 per month (way better than 1-2 per day). I feel much better, probably because I'm now drinking more water. I also read (article below) that diet soda can cause bone loss. YUCK!

the artificial stuff that is in diet sodas cause more harm than good or so i've heard. I used to hate water also. now that is pretty much all i drink. to help me with the transition i used those drink packets in my water. each day i would decrease it by 1 packet until i got to one packet per week. after that i rarely use them. they have artificial stuff too but they helped me to love water.

2010 is my year to reach goal!

I think it has to do with the fake sugar in it. Your mind is thinking all these calorie are coming but like you said it's 0 calories. therefore it makes you hungrier later... you "promised" your body calories and by gum it wants them haha.

I used to drink tons of Diet Dr Pepper...but 5 months ago I decided to just give pop up all together. I think it was one of the best decisions I've made so far! I hardly ever get headaches anymore and honestly it was a lot easier than I expected! I found this article...hope it helps!

I'm a Diet Coke girl, and I honestly don't like water, but it's all the other ingredients that catch up with you.

What are the benefits of cutting out DIET soda? It has no calories. I was reading this biggest loser calendar I bought yesterday and Jillian recommended it. I've also seen it other places. I don't know...I really love diet pepsi!
