When i first joined 7/29/2007 my daughter was going to be 5.
I joined thinking this will fix my weight problem.
Almost 10 years and a documentary with success stories later, my question to myself is, why haven't I done it? Is it because I did not read the book? I did not log fitness minutes? I did not log food items? I did not converse with fellow fitness gurus?
Maybe it is all of it. Maybe I didn't go into this almost 10 years ago with a concrete plan with short and long term goals, adjusting along the way to accommodate teaching moments and successes.
Maybe I held on too rigidly to time frames and due dates ( I need to be this weight by this age) or how I should look based on what my favorite celebrities were up to (clipping every celebrity workout from Health magazines).
Maybe I didn't take the time to learn what exercises and food combinations and times work best for my body.
I wish that all of that didn't cost astronomical amounts of money. The trainer, nutritionist, and biofeedback people should be ashamed of themselves. No they shouldn't. They need to make a living just like the rest of us. The time thing is not an excuse for me.
I could make an educated guess and say that my body is used to military exercise training with more calories out than in, but that doesn't explain how to work around arthritis and knee/ankle pain.

I posted this to encourage myself and anyone reading this who is still a member of the group if only to remind yourself of what you so desperately wanted and achieved, or desperately want and still trying to achieve. If you achieved your goals, mentoring someone else could be a realistic goal along with maintaining your results, and there is the added bonus of helping someone out because you know what they are going through and how difficult it is to start, continue and stay motivated through it all. If you are not yet at your goal, you are not alone.

I've lost 32 lbs. in 2 years--but I've kept it off, even though I had a baby since!!

Hi Relouden!
A year ago I was on a team that was very supportive and I lost 20 lbs (I had already lost another 14 on my own) Then low and behold, I got pregnant at 43 unexpectedly completely, my youngest is 14. I know have a beautiful baby daughter, and I took good care of myself, so I am two lbs. from the weight I was when I got pregnant. I saw your name, and remembered you! I see that you've continued and are doing great! Congratulations!

I don't remember a lot of the names, I remember 1SmallSpark, I wonder how she is doing?

I have gained 15 pounds, due to little to no excercise and taking a break during holiday's and eating whatever I wanted this past summer.

I am on day 3 of the Atkins diet and this time I will stick with it. I lost about 45 pounds a few years ago and gained half of it back. So, I know it works and am confident I will lose the weight.

Laura!!! 30 pounds is fantastic! That alone proves that you're doing things right. I know it's annoying when the pounds don't come off as fast as you'd like, but look how far you've come already! Be proud of yourself and keep on going!

Mandy ~ Please don't think of yourself as a failure!!! Sometimes our bodies just do things we can't control. It could be any number of reasons. The important thing is that you take care of yourself. I know it must be frustrating, but sooner or later everything will come together for you.

I guess I am the team failure. I have gained 10 pounds. So sad. I eat within my calorie range almost every day, and exercise a couple times a week - yeah, it should be more, but it's all I can do right now. I guess I am going through a metabalism change, but it's still very depressing.

This is funny...
personally, before joining Spark I lost a sperm whale's brain this year, then after joining I lost an average housecat for a total of a 2 year old child plus a rack of baby back ribs. My total goal is a guinea pig shy of a 2 year old horse!
Thanks for the topic!

Hi, haven't been around much recently because of various unpleasant things. My healthy lifestyle has taken a bit of a wallop too, but I can't have reverted to all my bad habits because despite a month of not really paying too much attention I maintained my weight rather than piling in back on and in the last two weeks I've started losing again :-) I'm not fully back on track - and I definitely need to start drinking water properly again - but I;m getting there.

Anyway - since July I have lost the equivilent of a two year old child and a guinea pig!!! How cool is that?

My name's Lisa & I'm in the UK :-)

Heaviest ever: 95kg / 209 lbs BMI: 35.8

Currently: 84kg / 185 lbs BMI: 31.8

Target: 70kg / 154 lbs - BMI: 26.3

Amanda, I made it a sticky as you suggested. :)

I'm glad everyone seems to like this! I do like the butter comparison that Allison mentioned as well. So far I've lost 88 sticks of butter!

This is great! I really like it. You should make it a sticky topic so it stays on top for awhile

LOL...wow...that really was a funny way to start off the Friday!!

I've lost between a Human's skin and an average newborn (6.5 lbs).

Weight Watchers has a similar, although not nearly so extensive list, and they remind you that 5 lbs is a sack of potatoes and 1 lbs is 4 sitcks of butter. I liked the butter comparison because there is something about equating "fat" with "fat..." if that makes sense

Some of you may have already seen this, but it was posted in one of my other teams. Take a look and see just how much, and what, you've lost!

According to the list, I've lost that spare tire since August, and a human leg since my first attempt at losing weight in 2003! LOL

Enjoy!
