Liz, I find that checking out audio books from the library to listen during commuting seems to help ease the stress from bad traffic, especially once the book really gets to the good parts where if I were reading, I'd hate to put it down anyway. My one-way commute is only 18 miles, but what is usually a 45-min commute can sometimes take 90 minutes or more of sitting bumper to bumper.

Praises for those who had good things happen this week. Mine is that my jury duty for today was canceled.

I've only been over 50 a couple of months and I can already say, I don't like it much. Aches, pains, creaking joints, wrinkles - and from what I've seen(read) from everyone, it doesn't get much better. I feel like I am rapidly falling apart. I was just talking with my daughter today about perspective for a similar situation she is dealing with in her family, and how focusing on the negative seems to make the negative worse. My advice to her, which I will try and apply to myself, is to re-shift that focus from the negative to a more positive outlook. Find the positive. HMMMM. so what CAN I say that's good about being over 50....

....still thinking.

LOL! Have a blessed day everyone!!!

Julie

I'm exhausted. Today traffic was bad going in and coming home. As long as I am in training we will work 8-5 and that puts me in the mess of traffic. It took me more then an hour to get to work today, yesterday it was like 40 minutes. Coming home I had to get gas so I got off at 5 pm and didn't get home until 7:05 pm. I don't know if I can handle this. Maybe that is why my husband had the heart attack. He's only about 3 miles away from me. I'll have to leave earlier tomorrow. Last night thunder woke me up just before 1 am. Liz

Missy~ Awesome that you could help out your friend and get some visiting in besides! emoticon on resisting those sweets!

Ann~Hope that modem comes soon!

Liz~Keeping you and your DH in my prayers....

Didn't get a good nights sleep last night so I think a nap may be necessary. Did a bit of clean up in the yard after work.....just tired right now. Only one more work day this week. The party is over, the pictures are up on facebook, and my sister is on her way back to FL... emoticon I miss her so much. DH does not like the heat in FL so it is not likely we will ever go visit her together....but then I would have to stay well to do that!

Ann, Sorry about your computer problems. My husband works with computers all the time and we still get our problems at home that frustrate me. Hopefully you will get the new modem in soon.

Had my first day of work yesterday. I'm exhausted. Besides the drive, I just don't feel well. Now with the water in my ear, I'm dizzy. My blood sugar was up this morning too. I haven't been able to get to the doctor yet. If I do I'm sure I'm probably diabetic or pre diabetic, have high blood pressure and I know I'm obese. When did life get so out of control. I'm praying all goes well today and I can make it through this week. Once my husband and I start driving together I'm hoping it's better. It's such a long drive, 50 miles one way.

My husband has his nuclear heart test setup for July 24th. Liz

Cheri Ann, glad Dan is fine. Mrs. C, you're a good friend!!
And happy to hear that after so much hubbub, all you have to do is replace your modem and all will be well. That is very good news, Ann.

Wishing all of you a wonderful Tuesday. I am off to work and it will hopefully be a busy, productive day.

f it isn't one thing, it's another...

I have been having internet connections issues for a a while and have finally figured out what the problem is. My DSL modem has gone bad. I just spent nearly an hour on the phone with my internet service provider to determine that. The modem has 4 lights on it that are supposed to light up green when it is functioning properly but lately one light, the power light, will turn red and then I have no internet access. I have tried plugging it into another outlet to see if that is the problem but it didn't help. Since the modem has been plugged into the same outlet as my computer which is working just fine, I knew it had to be a problem with the modem. To make a long story short, my internet service provider took nearly 40 minutes to determine that the modem was bad. The tech then told me that they would send me a new modem free but I would have to sign a one year contract stating that I would stay with them for that time period. I told him that I had been a loyal customer since 2000 so saw no need to sign a contract and then asked to speak to his supervisor. The supervisor told me I would not have to sign a contract and that they would send me a new modem free of charge. So...until I get that modem my connection will still be iffy since I never know when it is going to give up. Electronic gadgets can be such a big headache sometimes.

Afternoon ladies! Been running errands all day with my best friend whose car was in the shop. We had a great time laughing together.

Sounds like you all are a great support system! So glad this board is here.

I just tracked what I have eaten today and realize I dont have enough calories left to eat dinner!

Guess I will have to find some energy to hike it upsyairs and get some fitness in.

I joined the sweet tooth challenge last night. Inwas at several places today to buy stuff for my sweet tooth but managed to not buy any of it--so a victory there Praise God!

Hope you all have had a great day! Gonna take a little snooze!

Hello Susan, so glad you are diving right in!

Praise! Dr. says Dan is fine.....just a small variation of normal-and he didn't hear what the nurse heard. He is not concerned at all. Scheduled my pre-op appointment while we were there.

The Christmas in July party was a bit disjointed, but really fun. I think I will have to take a bigger hand in all of these get togethers from here on in. Hopefully with my help they can be a bit more organized ....we finally got done at about 7pm (started at 1:30)...it was a long day but very fun. The photo booth was a success, but very hot! The air conditioning did not reach the room Mom designated for that...we will learn for next time!

Going to try and get a quick nap and then go to a ball game if it doesn't rain....a friend's son is playing ball. That tends to go a bit late as well though-we usually watch the game and then we have to go get ice cream and talk some more. Nice to see the family(the kids call me their aunt) but it ends up being a long day for me.

Reading some of your postings here show so well what a sweet, caring group of women you are. I'm in !!
My name is Susan. I have struggled with my compulsive eating for so very long. I tend to do well for short periods of time and then revert back to eating for pleasure/to soothe pain.
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you. emoticon

I have orientation tomorrow for my new job. Not sure if it will be all day or not. I have to be there at 7:45 so I will drive myself. My husband is going to see if he can change his hours to 6:30-3. Then I could work 6-3. He is doing 7-3:30 now so it's only a half hour difference. It will be an early morning to get going. It takes about an hour to get there. I always feel sick to my stomach in the mornings. Hopefully I can get that to pass quickly. I bought some more fresh ginger. I wasn't feeling well all day yesterday so I had been munching on that quite a bit. Hope I have enough for the week at work. Not sure about lunch. Nothing really around and we get an hour. I don't know if they have a cafeteria or what. I bought some crackers with cheese and those little tuna with crackers kit. I'll see what it's like after tomorrow. Maybe they have a fridge and microwave. Have a great week everyone. We are waiting on the Directv guy to get here to setup the HDTV system box. We had a lot of rain yesterday and it's starting again today. I hope the guy gets here soon. Even though I still don't feel well, we need to go to the grocery store. Liz

Cheri*Ann, Hope you are enjoying time with your family and your Christmas in July. Prayers continue for you and for Dan.

Julie, Prayers for your daughter, Kelly and for you. Maybe you can have some blood work done and see why you are so tired to the point of fatigue. You can do everything you need to for your fitness. Try breaking things you enjoy into ten minute segments and see if that helps. Just do the best you can each day. That is all you can do!!! We have also taken Liam and had him adjust especially when he was dealing with the colic. AMAZING how much that helped him!!!

SADIE, I HOPE THE DOGS ARE GONE AND YOU HAVE YOUR HOME BACK!!! SO GLAD YOU WERE ABLE TO DEAL WITH THEM AS LONG AS YOU HAVE. MAY GOD CONTINUE TO BLESS YOU!!!

Ann, Sure hope you get the raise you deserve! Enjoy all your work days while the lead teacher is on vacation. You do such a great job with the babies!!! Hope they all appreciate all you do!!!

Liz, hope everything works out for you that you will be able to ride with your husband. That would definitely save money and make it worth your time and effort to work. Prayers and HUGS!!!

Peggy, I'll be praying for your friend's daughter...those cancers can be very aggressive.
I've walked a 5K before when I was in Spain...actually it was to do with one of my teams here on SP...we all did them wherever we lived. Was good fun.

Helen, oh poor you and little Liam but I know accidents happen. Glad nothing was too serious.

Cheri, praying for Dan...enjoy the family Christmas get together. Hope you post some pics on fb.

SADIE...THE END IS IN SIGHT...HANG IN THERE!!

Liz, praying you get the hours to suit you and your husband...I can see how you need to synchronise everything to save on $$$.

Julie...sounds like you need the rest at the w/e to refresh yourself. Have you seen the doctor about the tiredness? maybe a thyroid check?
Isn't it so hard to take our burdens to the Lord and leave them there but that's what He asks us to do. Praying for you my friend. emoticon

One more week behind me...and next week the lead teacher is taking 4 vacation days...how will the nursery survive? Seriously...2 weeks ago it seemed I couldn't do anything right, this week the lead teacher has been telling me I work too hard. I haven't changed...so what is going on? It has been a crazy week, though, with 14 to 15 babies everyday. We keep getting more and more parents coming to look at the nursery but we really have no room. This month the tuition was raised but that hasn't prevented people from enrolling. We have a long waiting list.

The tuition raise is to help pay for the increase in wages the director had to give. On July 1st the state minimum wage went up $1 an hour which brings many of the newer aids wages too close to those of us who have lots of experience so our wages had to be raised also. Monday everyone who will be getting this raise received a note stating that we would be notified of how much we will get before our next paycheck which is the 20th. The amount will be based on our length of service, early childhood classes taken, absences/tardiness, job performance, team work, and communication skills. I don't have any idea how much more I will be getting but any more is very much appreciated and needed!

That discussion I have been needing to have with the director has been turned into a nursery staff meeting sometime before the end of this month.

I can so relate to being exhausted and feeling run down. I don't want to do anything. My husband shows it. Yesterday after driving to town for lunch with some friends, I went to the mall to get some comfortable clothes for my new job. I thought I'd pass out from being so tired. Only ended up buying one thing and didn't run any of the other errands I was going to because I was too tired. I don't wear makeup so don't have to worry about that but my gray hair is really showing and I'm too lazy to color it. Stress is a factor for me too. I just got an email from my new job. I am so frustrated with them and haven't even started yet. The job is a 50 mile one way drive. My husband works just a couple miles away. I had specifically asked on the interview if there was any way I could work hours close to his. They told me 7-4 would be okay. He works 7-3:30. I thought great. I told them my old job had offered me a position back but if I could work those hours we could save money on gas. The other job is closer. Now I get an email telling me client needs have changed and could I work either 6-3 or 8-5. I wrote back and told them I had turned down going back to my old job because I was told I could work 7-4. I told them I could probably do the 6-3 but not the 8-5. If I go in on Monday for orientation and they have me sign all the paperwork and then they tell me sorry you have to work 8-5 I will not be able to do it. If I sign the paperwork I sign away my rights to going back to my old job as they are competitors and for working for any bank this company does business with. I have over 262,000 miles on my vehicle. Driving to work before was costing me about $525 a month and this is 125 miles more a week driving. With an old SUV that only gets about 17 MPG I can't afford to spend all the money I would make on gas. I can't afford a new vehicle. Pray they let me do the 6-3. My husband said he could probably work those hours as his company works with the stock market.
I will keep your daughter Kelly in prayer. I've tried drinking coffee and still have no energy. I know I really need to lose the weight, I just haven't figured out how yet. Nothing seems to work. Even when I was really sick I lost a couple pounds and as soon as I could drink water it went back on. Have a good weekend. Liz

TGIF!! Though it was a short work week, I am exhausted and feeling run down. I even left the house for work this morning completely forgetting to put on any makeup. (least I have some coloring from time in the sun on vacation so I hope I didn't look ghastly to my co-workers - LOL) So, Cheri, I wish my energy had lasted. Fatigue and lack of motivation has been a constant issue this year. Stress just kills me and this week was a killer on the stress meter. I'm a momma that takes on her children's burdens (even adult children). It kills me when they are going through some rough times. So please just keep my daughter, Kelly's situation in your prayers - God knows what she's going through and she just needs to be carried by Him for a bit.

In that vein, prayers for both Peggy's friend and Cheri, Cheri's Dan, and all others that I've seen as I've read through posts. Hang in there one more day, Sadie. emoticon I can so relate to what you are feeling. Been there, done that.

Ah, chiropractors - the best in alternative care out there. I love how they can really ease so many issues without the use of medications. I even had my newborn (who is now 13) adjusted when he was so cranky and fussy during the early weeks. He was a posterior delivery, which means it was an effort on both our parts to bring him forth. That adjustment turned his crankiness into peace. He was so calm and slept better after that.

I know I shouldn't but I will probably sleep the weekend away. Please someone convince me that slow and steady exercise will get me past this blahness (is that a word) that just paralyzes me and chains me to an early bedtime.

Walked the dog for a short walk today-for some reason he didn't want to do the full walk, then did some gardening, picked raspberries and started laundry. Balanced the checkbook and am going out to get groceries...feeling productive!

This Sunday is my families Christmas party! LOL Christmas in July. My sister is up from FL and my brother will be up from So IL --it will be a busy day. I have to do the prayer requests for church before I leave since Dan has a dr. Apt. to check out a weird heartbeat that the nurse at work wants checked out. Pray that it is nothing! We can't have both of us down at once!! Anyway I will be taking Monday off so I have to get the critical stuff done after church Sunday!

Hopefully only one more day with the dogs Sadie!

Hope things are going well for you Ann!

Hope you all have a blessed weekend!

Julie~ I hope you still have enough energy to do what you need/want to do!

Peggy~praying for your friend w/melanoma...

Peggy, Praying for your friend's daughter. I grew up in New Jersey and I burned and peeled all the time. Never tanned and we didn't wear sunscreen. Hopefully I won't get any problems. My sister has but she used to do the baby oil and all that.

SADIE, I'M GLAD YOU ARE GETTING RID OF THE DOGS. I KNOW IT CAN BE STRESSFUL ON YOU WHEN THEY START HAVING PROBLEMS GOING IN THE HOUSE.

Helen, So sorry about the accident with you and Liam. Little ones do bounce back quickly and Praise the Lord you got something positive out of it too, breathing! Maybe I need to see a chiropractor. I have always had problems with my breathing. Next thing you know Liam with be walking and then running. My niece's baby just turned 1 and he is on the move. My other niece's baby just turned 1 too. I don't know if he's walking yet but if he's not it will be soon.

Cheri Ann, Keeping you in prayer for God's healing touch.

Ann, Praying for the needs to be met with all of those little ones. Have you talked with the director yet?

Praying for you all. Liz

Hi and welcome July!!! It is great seeing your posting. Hope we get to know you quickly.
It is unbelievable that Liam is crawling and moving so fast that I tripped and fell over him on Monday evening. Since I don't bounce anymore, I have had to go to the chiropractor twice and will see him again tomorrow morning. So glad that Liam wasn't hurt badly...only busted his upper lip on a tooth. It bled badly and was really swollen. Tuesday morning it was healed and looked great again. (At seven months old, he already has seven teeth and cutting another one.)
The best thing about needing the chiropractor is that he also has helped my breathing 250%. He said the nerves to your lungs are also between your shoulders and upper back and since I was messed up there, my breathing was terrible. Even my inhaler didn't help. Now I am doing fine even without needing the rescue inhaler!!! PTL!!!
Peggy, Prayers for your friend's daughter. I understand that she is devastated. I remember my Mom and father-in-law dealing with melanomas. God really does work wonders and gives us continued strength!!!
Ann, have a wonderful vacation and enjoy time just for you...Hopefully time time will go quickly until it starts. God bless you for the wonderful work that you do with and for those little ones.
SADIE, GLAD THAT YOUR BABYSITTING THE DOGS IS ALMOST OVER!!!
Continuing prayers for the needs of all whether spoken or unspoken...God knows them all.
Hoping to go to Ohio this weekend and visit with my sister. Haven't seen her for a while but talk to her regularly on the phone.

Janet, there are a lot of 5k's out there for cancer survivors and I would recommend it- most all you can walk-they are so much fun and you just feel energized when you do it. I know you can do it!!!
Please, pray for a friend's daughter who is in her 20's and was just diagnosed with her 2nd melanoma. I don't know too many details now but I know she is just devastated. This has really touched my heart as I know exactly how she feels-I have had surgery for melanoma 3 times and it is only because of God giving me the strength and help from family and friends that I was able to get thru them.

THE DOGS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HOUSEBROKEN, BUT MAYBE THEY ARE TRAUMATIZED WITH THE FIRE, BUT GINA SHOULD NOT HAVE SO MANY ANIMALS ANYWAY, SHE IS COMING SATURDAY AND I WILL TELL HER NOT TO ASK FOR MY HELP WITH HER ANIMALS IN THE FUTURE, I'M THROUGH BEING USED I JUST DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS GOING TO BE SUCH A NIGHTMARE, I THINK OTHER PEOPLE ARE FED UP ALSO FROM STORIES I HEAR.

Great to see you here Julie...not too sure about the team goals...I always think this team likes to chat the most! But we do have a weekly weigh in...here's the link if you'd like to join us. Just scroll to the bottom of thread and read what you need to do.

So happy to hear you and your family had a lovely trip and best of all that the Lord gave you His strength & stamina.

SADIE SO GLAD TO HEAR THAT GINA'S DOGS ARE MOVING OUT!! I AGREE, WE HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHAT WE AGREE TO...SOMETIMES OUR HEARTS RULE OUR HEADS!!

Ann, my daughter's nursery is about to be restructured, it's not making any money so hours are being cut and jobs will go. She is stressed about it all but mainly about the impact on her staff....

Peggy...I see you have another race coming up...what an inspiration you are. My slimming club is going to raise money for Cancer Research and they are planning a 2K, 5K or 10K run....I hope they will also do a walking one. I doubt I would risk my knee to do a run but I would walk a 5K. This will be later in August.

CheriAnn---Praying all goes well with you upcoming surgery.

Julie---Welcome to our team. Glad you were able to enjoy your vacation so well. One goal met...now on the the next?

It's been hot and humid here, but probably not as humid as some of you are experiencing. The heat is supposed to abate a bit until this weekend but then back up it goes and more humidity. YUCK! I have a window AC but rarely use it because it does run up the electric bill so much. I have enough trouble paying that bill as it is.

We are back up to 14 or 15 babies each day now. After having having a maximum of 8 to 11 for so long, it is hard to get used to having so many once again. Most of the new babies are young, 5 to 6 months, and they want to be held most of the time, even when they are napping. That isn't possible with 5 or 6 adults to care for them. We do what we can, make sure their needs are taken care of and then have to put them in a swing or in their crib. Sometimes we might be holding 2 babies giving them both a bottle...not an easy thing to do! I am looking forward to my week's vacation at the end of this month!

Hi y'all. Julie from Texas but I am really a transplant and feel more comfortable saying "you guys." Thank you again for the warm welcome. I had my first day back to work after about 9 days of vacation and travel today. Took the kids and hubby to a place I had gone whitewater rafting over 30 years ago. It was still fun but so much more commercialized than it was. :(
It was an answer to prayer that I had the energy and stamina to do the activities without a flare up of pain or fatigue. That was one of my original sparks goals- to have the energy for the trip.

It is nice to meet so many prayer warriors. You can add me as one to count on for praying for you.

So can someone explain the team goals and weigh in reminders?

I am facing another surgery on August 11th(they just want to make sure that there are no more cancer bits left)...........so I spent the rest of the day (after errands and going out for brunch) cleaning the office. Did a pretty good job. Of course I moved some of it to another room so that I could get projects done....but it doesn't look too bad.

I am back in preparation mode again. The other secretary will be on a missions trip to S.Dakota on the Indian Reservation with our youth group in a week or I would have had it sooner.......kind of glad that I have some more exercise/planning time beforehand.

Loretta I'll be remembering you in prayer about the hernia. I don't think any of us want to have surgery unless absolutely necessary.

Cheri, I know you'll keep us updated.

Liz, thank you for remembering Derek in prayer again. I hope for an update from Pessa tomorrow. They've used 'maggots' to treat his bad heel and if they can they will also do an angiogram to see if they can do anything about the blood flow is that leg. Such a worrying time for them and the family.

Our neighborhood was full of illegal fireworks as well. Hard getting to sleep when they are still going off, and our dog is so afraid we can't even get him to go outside to do his business in the evening hours...

Getting some gardening and some housecleaning done...

Praying for all those with requests and celebrating with those whose loved ones had birthdays. Dan's birthday was today - we went out to eat with two of his siblings and thier spouses last night for dinner. That was nice, we don't get to see them too often. We are going to try and meet every other month. We usually only see them a few times a year and they don't live that far away! Dan is working the 4 to midnight shift on weekends for four weeks. I do hate this shift......he is always sleeping or working! His days off are the only days I work! Oh well-he doesn't have to do this one often.

Can't wait until Tues morning to see what the Dr. has to say!

Belated Birthday Wishes for Joseph.
Glad you had a nice anniversary.
Will keep Derek in prayers. My sisters ex-father-in-law just had to have his foot amputated and that wasn't enough so the had to go in and take up to his knee. Her ex-mother-in-law had died 2 weeks before this. Her ex-husband has taken a leave from work to take care of his father.
I hadn't heard from my friend that lost her son since she told me he died. I had sent her a letter because she doesn't have internet access and never heard anything so was wondering if she got that. I won't her to know about our other friend that died since we all went to school together. I sent her a text message telling her she died. She called me today. She is having a hard time since her son died. Not only financially but her ex-husband is giving her a hard time. She said he is crazy. Anyway she is working 12 hour shifts to make up for all the time she spent going back and forth to NYC and then Ohio. She sounded like she was okay. She was as shocked as I was on the passing of our friend.
Take care and have a good week all. We aren't going out today, at least I hope not. Traffic is backed up for hours because of people returning home from camping on the holiday weekend. Liz
