Just thinking of the prep is disgusting. I asked my GP
to do a Free T3 and he said Medicare has cut it out.
I need to go to an endo and pay for it to be done privately.
Will let you know how I go.

Good Luck Sunday. GoAnna the prep is way worse than the test. when i had stomach issues i had to skip the drink and do a 3 day prep instead. i almost think that was worse. DH said the drink was not that bad. you'll be fine!

Goanna if your labs do not have the T3 T4 and free T3, T4 then they are not doing a full lab just the TSH alone will not tell you if your thyroid is correct. make sure you hold your thyroid meds until after the lab test as they will mess up your lab. Feeling tired and dragging are some of the signs that your thyroid maybe not right. Of course there are other problems that do the same thing to you body. I had to have the colonscopy as part of my last years health plan. Get copies of your lab and keep them as your ranges can be different than what the normal ranges are. I wish you luck on a good tests.

I am starting to feel really tired lately, yet my blood
tests of a few weeks ago showed that my thyroid
is 'normal'...Whatever normal is. Going to have an
endoscopy and colonoscopy next Monday, so I am
already hating the dreaded 'stuff' I have to drink on
Sunday.

I finally got my results from the thyroid sono. They could not find the goiter. Either it has sunk or it has been displaced. I have been doing the Fast Metabolism Diet for a couple of months now and an finally within 3 of my Doctors goal and I want to lose another 5 from that. I have my regular 3 month appointment on the 9th so maybe I can get to the Doctors goal by then. I will need to see what is happening as he thinks my hypoglycemia is from a pancreas disorder. That will not surprise me as I was on 800mg Ibuprofen 3 times a day for 15 years. Plus 2 other high dose pain meds for some of that time. I weighed in at 138 this AM down another 2 pounds from Wednesday when I post my weight on my tracker.

well after a year of not having symptoms of HyPERthyroidism I thought i was out of the woods, but noooooo. the doctor decided now she wanted to do an ultrasound. (something which none of them ever did or seemed to think i needed) and she found what might be a syst on it. and top that off with now two weeks later i started having an elevated heart rate and hand tremors. 'sigh I thought i was done with it. but i guess not. so im back on meds.

Wow....I wonder if you had so much scar tissue that is why he couldn't find it? I had my thyroid removed and the surgery took twice as long because of scar tissue from Hashimotos. Good luck.

I hope he does too. I went to see the endocrinologist on June 4 and got a stronger dose of levothyroxine, 88 mcg. I'm also taking meds because I still have the nerve pain from having had shingles. But at times, I feel very fuzzy-brained, and get dizzy and lose my balance. It isn't a good way to go through life. I'm wondering if the gabapentin or the acyclovir is making me feel that way.

Any advice?

I just had a thyroid sono and the tech questioned me as to if I had my thyroid removed, as he could not find my thyroid, which I have not had it removed, I have had several neck surgeries. These surgeries have moved my tract to the side while they worked on my spine. The tech checked the surgery notes then continued with the sono so I am not sure what he found out. I hope to get the results soon.

I appreciate all of you sharing. I use Thyro-Gold produced for Tammy Lowe, www.naturalthyroid solutions. It's a bovine product and it has 150 mg. every so often when I see myself tired and gaining wait I do the following: i ask Jesus to heal me while going to sleep when I can concentrate and talk to him while the scritures are going on through my ipod. I combine the thyrogold with a bit of the natural sources raw thyroid. I also take about 2 mcg of the levothyrozine at night. In the last week I lost 6 lbs., (had climbed from 116 to 126. ) feel real good. And, I can eat full meals without bloating or gaining weight.

I would make sure your Doctor check your TSH3 and TSH I had several high readings and the Dr wanted to keep me on 200 I suggested to him to lower my thyroid med and see if I came down which I did. Some Dr can get confused with the test results. As I am on a medical plan that will not pay for full strength I have to take the generic meds as I cannot afford to pay the difference. I will see about checking with a Endo Dr soon.

I am on Oroxine(thyroxine) here in Australia and the doctor
changed my dosage from 100 to 75. Nothing is doing anything
for weight loss. I go back on Wednesday to see what numbers
come up after 3 months on the lower dose. I feel really tired
though, so will have to wait and see.

I have used an mail order pharmacy you would have to see if the service has a good rating. I would check them out. I liked the mail order service as I did not have to drive to the pharmacy. They have issues the same as a local service so check it out. also make sure your insurance will pay for it too.

Hi All! I was hoping to get some advice re: Synthroid vs. Levothyroxin. I am currently on the Levo, dose 100. I have heard from some folks that the Synthroid works differently/better, but I get told that its the same medication, just a generic form. Has anyone gone through this or tried both? I'd like to hear experiences. The doc just changed my dose from 88 to 100 and says that it will help boost my weight loss. Since the medicine has never boosted my weight loss in the 7 years I've taken it, I'm not sure why it would now and I'm questioning going to see a specialist and trying to get the actual Synthroid. Thanks in advance!

MZSLEEPE1 - My doctor lowered my meds from 100 to 75 even though my TSH was low.
I find I get more hungry and won't be getting tested again till April. I hope it doesn't cause weight gain. I think I will go to a compounding chemist to send me to a doctor who prescribes the natural meds for thyroid. I hope you don't gain weight. Have a nice day!

Hello, I am new to Sparks.....I had my thyroid removed two years ago and after finally getting my meds (Levothroid) stablized, a few months ago, the pharmacy changed the brand of my my prescription to Levothyroxine Sodium which caused me to experience side affects including more weight gain. I was prescribed Synthroid which I didn't feel bad, but I didn't feel good. Now my Doctor informed me that the brand Levothroid is no longer available.

Yesterday, I was so frustrated, praying and searching the web to see if anyone else had similar experiences and saw a link to this group. This is truly an answer to prayer to be able to talk to someone that understands what I am talking about! emoticon

Ahhh.. a feasible plan and have a way of monitoring it.

There was a Sparkpeople article about exercising..."Small Bits of Fitness Add Up". Your half hour walking will exceed SP's small bit. Your strategy sounds great and doable.

Hi Team! My doc just lowered my meds from 200mcg to 175mcg. Now I'm terrified that I'll gain even more weight and feel more tired. So now it's all me. I have to really eat clean and try to get in some cardio! Walking is something I miss a lot! Just being outside enjoying the birds and the beauty. I'm going to try walking at lunch, yes it's only 30 minutes but better than nothing! Portion control and no processed junk! It's so easy to grab something almost made than take the time to make it yourself without preservatives and added salt! I need to get healthy and stay that way! Start lifting weights for tone ad be good to myself! Fat doesn't turn into muscle but muscle does weigh more than fat without taking up more space. Lift and burn those calories! Thanks for being here! Be fabulous!

I have been trying an exercise bike the last several days and will check my weight this week. I have also had my Husband join and he can see how much I need to lose weight. He has been able to drop about 20 pounds and I have been stuck. With us working together as he wants to lose another 20 pounds maybe we can get there.

I have been trying not to lose weight and nothing I have done will help. I am on limited income so I cannot buy some of the healthy foods and as I get commodities local sometimes it does not follow my diet plans and I have a lot of pasta foods that I need to eat. I started with Spark people several years ago and now I am back any ideas/

I just joined this group... I'm 25 and I commute an hour to school 4 days a week. I'm not sure if I really have Hypothyroid... My doctor tells me I have hyperthyroid, but my endocrinologist tells me I'm normal. But I also show symptoms of hypothyroid.I have a ton of nodules on both sides of my thyroid. I started exercising at school recently and I seem to only have gotten bigger.... I'm not sure if my fat is just turning into muscle or if I'm just getting fatter. I have no support system at home so its frustrating to keep hearing how fat I am... I'm really not that fat looking... But I get a daily reminder that I need to lose weight... I just feel so hopeless at times... I'm hoping that this site and this group will be a positive influence on me.

Hi! I just joined this group. (I cannot remember if I posted here before, though).

I gained about 90 pounds before my hypothyroid condition was diagnosed, then have struggled for about 3 years to lose it. On one hand, I wanted to give up but on the other, I am morbidly obese so I couldn't. I was so discouraged and felt so awful, but kept praying I would find some way to lose weight.

I was so lucky to find The Thyroid Diet Revolution book, which described stories like mine in which the person was doing everything right and couldn't lose weight. I started on one of the three suggested food plans 27 days ago today, and have lost 8 pounds. I cannot put into words how grateful I am to have found this plan.

Here is what is working for me. I cannot go too low carb because it triggers migraines. And I cannot get too hungry because that also triggers migraines. So very low carb is out for me. So I am eating very low glycemic index, low-ish carb, little soy (a big change for me), higher protein, high fiber, high water, "clean" (no artificial sweeteners, nothing with corn syrup like coffee creamers, either unprepared or "whole" prepared foods). I am careful, if I am able, not to snack in between meals or after dinner to allow my metabolism time to absorb nutrients. I eat at least 6 servings of veggies a day - even if I am going to go over my calorie threshold. I am exercising every day. I write down everything I eat. And I cannot believe this weight loss! I feel like I have the slowest metabolism on the planet, but this is working for me. The crazy thing is, my calories are not that much lower - they are just distributed differently.

I am looking forward to participating here, since my thyroid condition is still my main challenge.

i fully agree with denmama1. if you eat a lot of junk and don`t move, weight gain does happen.

I just finished "What Your Doctor Won't Tell You About Hypothyroidism." It does a nice job explaining TSH, T4, T3 etc. It's the first time I've seen estrogen (incl. phyto-estrogens)addressed. Excess estrogen binds up the T3 (I think I've got that right) so eating a lot of soy products can interfere.

My own experience is a balanced exercise program - strength & cardio plus a balanced diet - 30% carb/30% protein/30% fat of really worked.

I was so pleased with myself that I tried "resting on my laurels" and well, it's fairly predictable what happens if you eat a lot of junk and don't move.

Hi everyone- Its been a long time since my last post. It seems Im starting over again. I need to get this weight off. I live in a retirement home now and I love it. There is a nurse that comes in once a week to give blood tests, high blood pressure readings and weight checks. I weighed in at 257. Not as happy as I would like to be, but Im not stressed out over it. My blood pressure is doing a lot better since I cut out the salt. It was 131/71. My pulse was 61 and my oxygen is high. Not a bad week at all.

Hopefully your meds will help. Keep chatting with your doctor if the weight is not coming off to see if your med doses can be adjusted. I hope your Cytomel does more for your weight loss than mine did. Never give up hope!!!!!
