Yesterday was very good except carbs and proteins were off with carbs too high and proteins too low. Will work on that!

Awareness is a great pat of the battle for me .
I was not aware that I am popping little peppermint candies in my mouth too often and those are sugar!!! I will not deny them when really needed for throat [a med makes it really dry!] or a little "pick me up" but going to limit them to three a day and drink more water to care for part of throat problem.
Also new awareness of gram of sugar in so many foods...yogurts, cottage cheese, fruits etc - things I think are good for me .
I will always have a wanting for honey and for chocolate - must learn to have them in planned moderations and known , planned amounts.

Thanks for sharing everyone! Good to know others are hard at work out there - on New Year's Eve too. Desserts will abound but I will make sure I eat a healthy dinner and take a healthy non-sugar snack to the party. Since I'm just starting this challange - Day One - I will abstain from the cookies and other desserts just for today. Then I will review each day and set a limit for that day. Lucky for me, host forgot dessert yesterday. Then back at home could not find ANY sweet goodies. There is new ice cream in there but will not open i. Stress and boredom seem to be my sugar triggers.Working on other ways to relieve stress and get more active so less bored. Like reading Sparkpeople boards, exercising, tracking food and nutrition.

I didn't do so well yesterday. I baked some Russian Teacakes for my husband. He likes them at Christmas time. I ate 3 not at the same time. I went over what I wanted to eat. So today is a new day. I am going to bake some pumpkin gingerbread from a recipe on spark. And while my husband eats those I will stick with the low calorie gingerbread and watch my portions.

well I've been having some difficulties too as in stress & anger. I try to focus on me & doing things that I like, so the other day I was angry at not just one but a few things so I did some gardening. I mauled some root that got in my way, but I felt better. Just now I was angry & upset so I did my nails, some Halloween design.
I also try to eat healhier versions of sweets but today I couldn't so I fixed some pancakes. But yummy! Ya'll going to blog about your journey? I'd like to try.

My FIL died, and in cleaning out his freezer we found a box of glazed donuts, which my DH brought home. I was able to resist eating any because I imagined them to be freezer burnt! emoticon

I'm like you SALAM4545 I'm not totally giving up sugar. For me I just need the motivation to not want to eat half a packet of Tim Tams in one sitting or a packet of Arnotts Mint Slice or Griffins Ginger Nuts. Since starting I'm already making better choices.

Perhaps make a sweet treat but a healthy sweet treat that will keep you within your calorie range. Perhaps a healthy slice and cut it up into portion sizes or healthy muffins things which you can freeze and pull out the right portion size for the next day ahead.

That's what I've started to do. it's working for me so far. I also don't have sugar in tea or coffee and would never eat or have natural or artificial sweetener in coffee or tea.

These small tips may help you or others they are helping me at the moment.

We can do it! But only if we really truly underneath it all want to. emoticon

Feeling a need for a little support. I know that on day 4 I'm not altogether eliminating sugar, just trying to recognize triggers to my cravings, but still. I fell off the wagon and sort of let myself down. I am prediabetic and it is really important to me to get a handle on my weight, but when I am stressed food is my first comfort, the thing that numbs my anger and exhaustion. I know I need to find something else, but what? How do I implement the change in my life? I'm feeling overwhelmed by all that needs to be done.

What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals. Henry David Thoreau

Wow, that's just great. Really inspiring. I hope that you continue to do well. :)

Be brave enough to live creatively; the creative place is a place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of intuition. You can't get there by bus, only hard work, risking, and by not quite knowing what you're doing. What you will discover will be wonderful : Yourself!

Feeling alone on this team - except for the daily lines on the challenge - I think that is true in most challenges - short term and no long lasting relationships like on our regular kinds of teams.

Hmmmm needing some support here
I thought I had gone with no sugar then realized that I did have zylitol in my oatmeal this morning ...so do I count that s sugar or as artificial sweetner?...it is a sugar alcohol and does not digest like sugars.

Do others of you really ENJOY your tea with no sweetner? I can force myself to do it but it takes the joy from the eating and drinking...how do we balance this all out??? How do I tell my self that health tastes better than sugar when I really am missing it!! At least honey and some of the other "more healthy" things I have learned to use and really enjoy.

It is not in my nature to complain and see negatives this way but am having a hard time of it the last few days...Is that part of the detox or just a sad spirit?

This challenge seems more individual that most of them - battling the monster sugar one day at a time and know I feel better and blood pressure stays more balanced with no sugar fluctuations.

I am super proud of myself! I have never been able to kick soda for longer than a day or two. So far it's been two days, and I'm still going strong! Instead of reaching for my sugary granola bars like I normally do, I reached for a banana which has natural sugar, but is MUCH better than the granola bars!

Hiking over the weekend was just the key I needed to knock out my sugar cravings. Even though, ironically, I had to eat dried fruit and some other things with added sugar over the two days since we were hiking so far and expending so much energy! But today's Thursday and I haven't deliberately consumed anything with added sugar on account of a craving! Don't break the chain! :-)

HI guys, I am not new to the Sparks scene. A few years back I went from 210lbs to 145 lbs in 6 months thanks to logging in exercise and food on here and doing 21 Day Fix and Shakeology. Well.... time, life, kids (a million other reasons), I am back up to 199lbs. I am 38 and needing to rid this 60lbs for GOOD! I had a hysterectomy 3 months ago and the weight is piling on. I have been back active on this site each day as well as I am a Beach Body Coach....already in 2 weeks doing 21 Day Fix & beast body and drinking Shakeology once a day, I am down 8lbs and 1/5 inch off my things.......would love to start a challenge group to keep me and others motivated!

Keep moving!

Today is my Day 4. I learned a lot doing the quiz about Sugars. It has been a real chore not eating sugary stuff. Before starting the challenge I was mindlessly eating candy, doughnuts, and whatever I could get my hands on. I stopped doing that thanks to Spark and all the support I've gotten from my SP friends. I've been praying too, asking for His help.

The first two days I think I was going through withdrawal I felt strange, had a headache, wanted to sleep more. Today I feel so much better, have more energy, and haven't craved sweets. That's a plus for me. I am hopeful that I continue on the same path....now and for the rest of my life. I really need to get rid of my bulges and become a healthier person.

I really don't have a problem unless my son brings in sweet things. All those cookies and fudge I made over Christmas holidays, I gave away and just kept a few (like less than a dozen cookies for my son & I) and a couple pieces of fudge. The rest were gone. I didn't even make the coconut cake I wanted and didn't miss it. I've only had "sweet things" a couple times this month, so I feel pretty good. Yes there are times when I get a real craving for something sweet and I give in but as a regular thing, it doesn't happen.

Start with small steps and momentum will build. Celebrate moving in the direction of increased happiness now! With a plan and persistence moving towards your goals all things are possible! Adopt an attitude of gratitude. Be thankful for everything you have. It may not be what you want be show you're thankful for it anyway.
Live, laugh, love and find joy in life, Ramona

I am really doing well, with the Lord's help. I have not caved into sweets. I have lost a lot of water pounds this first week of January. (8.4 pounds) I know it will be slow from here out and maybe gain a little of the water back. However, I am here to lose and get healthier.

Thanks SweetPea. Hey, that's wonderful that you've discovered a trigger! How about having a list of FUN special things to have on hand that you'll only use when you feel that way. New upbeat feel-good movies, videos, book, music might help (I have a bunch of positive YouTube songs bookmarked that I use and I move around as I listen) A new computer game or hobby will engage your mind if they are fun. Other people say that they go for a walk or spend a few minutes stretching. The stretching, dancing around to music and a few yoga poses works for me but I've no motivation for anything more sometimes. Good luck finding what woarks best for you SweetPea1399

Since Jan 1, I'm not eating caloric sweeteners but I am eating sugar substitutes. This challenge is really great support! Thanks to you all for posting.
I had 1 cup of sugar free ice cream for the late evening craving worked perfectly to quiet the sugar monster and coke zero for the daytime cravings yesterday. My long term goals are to retrain my taste buds to think things like winter squash is sweet again and to reduce the sugar substitutes and switch to the 'healthier' ones like xylitol.

I am seeing a Obese Therapist now and we talked out why I ate those cookies and most cookies...it is emotional eating. I came up with a couple of things to do during those times until I can talk to hubby about what is bothering me. Last night I shared with him that I am trying to tame my sweet tooth and he is going to give me support. The scale was kind to me today......... emoticon emoticon emoticon down 2 pounds emoticon

Last night we had a friend over and gave him a big plate of Christmas cookies I had baked earlier in the day. We watched a Christmas movie and hubby and he ate cookies. I got a tiny bowl of raisins, not even a handful, I was happy.

Trailtrodder that is a great idea increasing your water, I'm going to try that. It is really nice with our love ones help us in this endeavor. Keep up the good work!!!! emoticon

I'm doing well. I thought the "no sugar" days would be harder. I've increased my water intake and eating the heck out of fruit, mainly apples (less prep). My wife is wonderful support and I'm checking others to see how they're managing and seeing if I can help as well.

Why oh why did I decide to bake Christmas cookies for our friends. You know me and cookies...I ate a dozen last night. I am giving up cookies for my New Years Res. started it today. I know that if I eat one I will eat a dozen. I am not even going to have the one at Starbucks. They came out with a new seasonal one today and I passed. I had my coffee and a small bag of lite popcorn. Popcorn is my new Starbucks treat.

Well that worked for a short time and am now out of control again and doing the challenge again. I am going to do the daily tasks as they are written. I am not going to do my own things as that doesn't work or I would not be right back here, right?

Am watching my sugar intake and note that it is lower since I started wearing a rubber band on my wrist to snap every time I think of eating any thing sweet

Today I will eat one cookie I am getting a emoticon cookie at Starbucks. First thing this morning, I have a long walk planned, pushing a full shopping cart. My walking buddy is going with me to the supermarket and has a lot to buy. I volunteered to push the cart. We are using my cart because it is bigger. I am just getting a few vegetables but she is picking up among other things two cases of water. Thank goodness I am strong.

Sending everyone emoticon emoticon

I passed up donuts today but did get a treat at Starbucks. I got a seasonal treat and now I don't want anymore of them. Last year I got one every time I went to Starbucks. This year I am just getting one of the seasonal treats I was really the craziest about last year and passing on the others.
Last night I snapped the band all night and did not even want my yogurt ended up having a cup of grapes for desert

It is day 11 for the challenge for me. For the most part the cravings have subsided. I had one last night so I ate a mini tootsie roll. I have done the challenge before and went off sugar for 3 months, then did it on my own and lasted 4 months. I think I end up going back to sugar because I deprive myself totally from it. I am not going to do that this time. Instead of having something sweet everyday, I will have something every now and then.

I love the idea of that band on the wrist. I will definitely try that. I think being constantly aware is key to being successful.

Have a great day and hope you all are craving free today!!!!!!!!!

Kate sending you a ton of emoticon and love emoticon emoticon

Today I put an elastic band on my wrist and will snap it every time I think of sweets. My hardest time for sweets is right after dinner. Tonight I have planned an 80 calorie yogurt. It has added sugar but is better than cake and cookies
emoticon need to keep telling myself that!!!!

We can always stay on the team and support others and get advice from others doing the challenge.

I did not do good yesterday, went and bought a bag of candy. Today I started my day off with coffee cake. And now my half a bag of candy is calling me. I need to rethink this problem. Today I am to exercise when I get the craving.
