Well, my current dogs are doing great. My diabetic dog, he was a juvenile diabetic and was fed Science diet for years before i knew better. It DID help, because he used alot less insulin. but I think I started the raw 'too late' to help him get to old age. He passed when he was about 8. The dog that had cancer, I believe she ended up having a stroke and the other not really sure, but we believe she may have had a brain tumor. The two girls were boxers and cancer is high in them.

Minnie - well she started with raw when she was about 8 months old (when I got her). She was skin and bones. That was a year ago. Minnie had a vet appt this week and the vet tech said she couldn't believe how great she looks now! Both Mack and Minnie's teeth are great, weight is great! I couldn't be happier!

@whatazoo what ended up happening when you switched to raw? Did your dogs respond well?

You have had experiences that we have not had to endure. Our oldest are six and our two rescues that we took in last year, well, we just cannot be sure of their age, but they seem youngish.

I am also in several really wonderful net raw feeding groups. Reading the daily digests is very informative.

We have only been feeding raw since June of this year, but I can really tell my four dogs are thriving as never before and are very lean and muscular now. Dinner time is so interesting, they are excited abour their mealtime now, whereas before (on kibble) it was just ho hum.

Here are the groups I joined. I can recommend them all, although some are moderated very strictly and may put you off. That doesn't really bug me since I mainly just read and post very little. I am amazed at how generous the seasoned raw feeders can be with newbies that ask the same questions over and over ad nauseum.

The groups are listed in no particular order, the ones with the highest volume of posts are noted as such.

When I first started feeding raw - I was very nervous and wanted to make sure I did everything right. My vet wasn't really for it, but has since been fine with it. I read, read and read some more when I started feeding raw, more than 5 years ago. The reason I started was because I had a diabetic dog and one with what I think was cancer. Needed to get those under control. Once or twice have gone back to high end kibble, but have come back because Mack is allergic to something, either wheat or corn I think. I really like the K9 Nutrition group (they don't mind those that feed kibble, but do advocate for raw or home cooked). groups.yahoo.com/group/K9Nutrition/ I also like www.dogaware.com/ and www.b-naturals.com/index.php?main_pa

. I wish I lived somewhere close to a co-op! But it seems no one is very public about feeding raw here I guess.
