Good day to you all: I have an English Cocker named Mattie who weighs approximately 22 pounds. The picture you see is of my last cocker named Cookie who died from an autoimmune disease a couple of years ago. She also had megaesophagus which turned our lives upside down. It was a difficult 6 years looking after her, however, I believe we gave Cookie years that she never would have had otherwise, and as well she gave us so much more in return.
My husband and I agreed that if we ever got another dog we would feed raw. Mattie has eaten raw from the beginning, although we bought her when she was 1 year old. She is an absolute delight and is spoiled rotten. As I write this, she is reminding me that it's lunch time LOL.
Mattie ate an organic beef burger with pureed beet tops, and her supplements for breakfast. For lunch she will get Smack dehydrated with more vegies. Smack, I believe, is only sold here in Canada. The vegies add fiber; without them she tends to have a difficult time with bowel movements.
I have been good today as well with my eating. Susan

To me it is inexcusable and I feel so helpless about the situaton. People are not altering their dogs, there are strays all the time. We regularly have to call the shelter to pick them up, it is so sad. There is a place that alters dogs for as little as fifty bucks and I have the link on my facebook page. My opinion is do not get a pet that you cannot provide responsibly for or if your situation changes, rehome instead of neglecting them.

I have some really sad stories, but of course we all do when we love animals. emoticon

My kids are lucky and I tell them all the time, but they still only seem to hear "treats?"

I am in Canada on the west coast. Why are there so many wayward dogs down there? Is it the economy? That grinds my gears what with knowing that pets are dependent on us and letting them down when things get tough. But maybe I haven't seen tough. My dogs have always eaten before I did, even when times sucked the bones dry. They are not disposable: They are vulnerable...

Lucky dogs you have! emoticon

We took in a stray last night, was about to head into the street, poor thing. We get more strays around here than I have ever seen. Heck, half our pack was stray, lol, we call one of them a hobo, since we think he was on the road a while before he found us.

The one we picked up last night was full of mats, no tag, not altered, but strangely had a collar with a leash. Gee, sometimes, I really do wish they could speak. The local shelter picked him upmthis morning. With us having four dogs and me taking care of a five week old babe, it was not in the cards to foster the little guy. I have been kind of down about it all day, he had a super personality, I named him Peetey, cause he marked all over the place....

We get lamb necks by the case through our meat people. They come from New Zealnd. Not cheap, but a nice treat now and then!
My poor dogs never know when they're going to eat next. They do get fed twice a day, but when?
I also let them fast for a half day once a week.

My pumpkins are Rotttie crosses...

So thankful to see you here on our growing little team!

Lamb, sounds like a holiday dinner! Where do you ever find lamb? I have not seen it in the stores around us, we are in DFW, TX. :-)

We served pork ribs, they were the spare ribs, but had quite a bit of meat on them, so they are happy. We fed really late today, they actually just finished up.

Heard they may het sick to their tummy if you feed on a strict scheduke and may upchuck bile. Have you ever had this happen? Ick! I have not, but I do not feed a terribly strict schedule, dinner can be as early as dusk and as late as well, 11pm.

Oh, happy day, we just received a blessing from a fellow freecycle member. She gave us four venison steaks and 10 lbs processed ground venison.

This was our first receipt of free raw food! I bet you can guess what we'll be serving for dinner tonight!

I had posted a wanted ad for meat earlier in the week on my local freecycle board. Thta was a really fast response! emoticon

I got the elk from a co-worker last fall. Every September I send out an email asking for freezer burnt or meat they are planning on getting rid of before hunting season. My brother also gives me either older freezer stuff, or things he knows he won't use (antelope). I have some duck in my freezer, but they are whole (as in feathers, beaks, everything). I just need to clean them - I can't do the full prey model. emoticon

Tonight it's the leftover turkey parts from when we got a good deal last year at .39 cents a pound! We'll also feed some pork ribs I found this week, they look pretty meaty and I know they are going to enjoy the ribs. Today's also organ day, so they will get some chicken livers. I've had no problems with them tolerating chicken livers. When I run out in a couple weeks, I'll switch to beef liver.

This turkey was a 20 pounder and was difficult to cut up, I'm def. getting a work out on my arms butchering this meat! It's been interesting to see how they deal with it. Personally, I get the feeling they like chicken more because they just sort of pick at it. They just don't seem as into it, maybe it's because it's enhanced and none of the chicken I have fed has been enhanced.

I was taking my chances serving it, but they are tolerating it pretty well. No major upsets, Buster got a little barfy the first day after he ate it. Today, he's fine and he ate it again last night. Maybe the barfing had nothing to do with it after all.

I like the idea of putting the egg on it for things they do not particularly love.

Since we have 4, it's really fun to see their taste preferences. I have one that doesn't like turkey at all. He usually skips eating all together on those days. My thinking is, if he were really hungry, he'd eat it. I try not to feed the same thing every day, just in case of this issue.

So far, they all like pork. :-) The picnic roast was a pain to cut up. I wonder if I can add activity minutes for all the sweatin' I did cutting it into portions...

How did you get their free elk? Do you also eat elk? We are on the search for look out for some deer come hunting season.

Mack and Minnie got elk for breakfast this morning, along with a farm fresh egg. Minnie doesn't really care for elk all that much, but when I can get it for free it's what she gets! So, I have to mix her egg up with her elk (or deer if I have that). This evening it's chicken quarters. That the cheapest RMB I can get. They get turkey, beef, and pork most mornings and salmon one night a week.

Hi ya'll!

We're feeding pork shoulder today, got a great deal on a large picnic roast yesterday at 1.58 per lb. I know it will probably get lower than that, or at least I hope it will.

What is the lowest you have paid for picnic roast?

Our four have been eating pork for the last couple weeks, we started with chicken in July. We are very new raw feeders, so far so AWESOME! emoticon
