Fee's second book will be going up at the beginning of May. In the meantime I've been doing a lot of baby minding for her, so haven't quite managed my editing goal for the month. A few days left still though.

Fee's book has had over 200 downloads now. She's so pleased about it. On the other hand her husband came off his motorbike and has broken a bone in his foot, so can't help with the children now. She doesn't have so much time to be pleased.

My daughter's book is published on Smashwords! I'm really proud of her. It's "Away With The Fairies" by Felicity Knight. I know she's my daughter, but I hope I would have been honest enough to tell her if I had thought it wasn't ready. In fact I think it is very funny - and it's free, so go download.

That's interesting. I never thought of when certain words came to being, like Ok. In writing a period piece it would be fun to research that end of it. I was on a role play team for the 60s. We had someone who was good at keeping us on target. Mainly things I put in were items that weren't of that era. I should have researched.
That's great that you know of the Regency era. That's a lot of info.

Gotta go, helping DH in garage. Boxing things up for thrift shop.

That's it. As for grammar, I do correct it if required, but a good proofreader will fix issues like that. I'm a Regency nerd and also having seen slang come and go I have a feel for anachronistic language - one that always gets me is "ok", which at its earliest aros in mid 19th century America and didn't get to the uk till the mid 20th century, but is always cropping up in Regencies. Though the worst I've come across is a person in the Regency reerring to something as being "under the radar". And inventions that are more recent than you think; eg in this particular book, the stethoscope.

Critiquing though is just a matter of saying what works for you and what doesn't. One famous author said he got his beta readers to mark the bits where their attention wandered, and then cut them.

Think not. Do.

Is this where you critique other people's stories, Doreen? I'd be terrible at that, but it is nice that there are those who can do that. My grammar's not up to par. I'd love to be able to write a story to publish, like a kid's story. I wrote some for my own benefit and posted on in a blog.

I finished the beta read, It truly was dreadful. Her punctuation was minimal, her heroine was a Mary Sue and Too Stupid To Live, she needed a really good proofread, there were historical inaccuracies, and her characters were wooden and all the same. And they, English aristocracy, spoke American. Glad it's over.

Still coughing. I don't know if it's a coincidence, but we stopped taking garlic capsules a bit ago, because Richard complained about the aftertaste. Maybe I should look for the tablets, which don't have the garlic oil in them.

Sounds like everyone is on the road to recovery. I'm not sure how I've managed to not get a cold or flu being so run down and stressed. Plus the COLD weather. Ugh. This weekend I have to finish figuring out how I want the tiles put up in the tub/shower area since there just doesn't seem to be much time during the week after work. Wow 20 is out! Time sure flies!

Hope everyone has a very nice weekend!

I'm feeling a bit better now, my chest is starting to clear itself, but Richard is a bit behind me. He was getting panicky yesterday evening because he was coughing blood, but I'm sure it's just a few small vessels damaged by the coughing. He's not used to being ill.

Doreen, hope you feel better.

Fran, glad dH is out. I never had my DH in but MIL a couple times. A worry and glad when it is all over.

Still have the cough, but taking Musinex and nose isn't running and just an occasional sneeze. Doesn't act like a regular cold so maybe I caught it in time. Don't think it is pneumonia Karen, but will watch out.

Stopping in to say hi and let you know my hubby is doing well after the first couple days after surgery. In fact yesterday he never needed a nap and is down to 2 pain pils a day--so doing quite well. Now I have to do the driving as he can't drive for another week at least. I did finish book 20 and it was fairly good--better than the last one at least I thought. For all my fellow Americans wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving today.

Hi All! I've been really bad staying in touch with anybody lately. We had our basement bathroom done so we could use it while the upstairs bathroom was being redone. What a total disaster trying to go up and down with stuff to get ready for work. I'd forget and leave something upstairs that needed to go down and vice versa. After we had to decide on and go get so many little things along with picking out flooring and tile for the bath shower area, we still don't know for sure how we're going to have him put the tile up on the wall! I started with a light color (12x12) to go with the darker floor and then picked a smaller strip that matched the floor tile to put in the bath tile somewhere just as accent but now we've got 4 colors because we didn't have enough of the floor colored one and ended up getting 2 more colors since the store ran out. I'm almost tempted to forget the floor one cause I like the other two extra ones better. We have 2 12x12's that have 2"x2" pieces that have pretty much all the colors in it but there's not that much room between the tub up the the showerhead! I have to decide what to do and how to do it before the window comes in and once they get that in it's the final tub tile! I think I'm just decisioned out! Wish I had a program so I could see it. Have to use the bed and just do a little area at a time!

Anyway with all this I've had no time for anything. We've still had to navigate through dog gates because the cats still growl and howl at the new cat plus we had to make sure they were all out of the way of the workers - along with going downstairs with no bathroom upstairs! I've just done so little with exercising or communicating online. Hopefully after a few weeks the bathroom will be done and we're not doing anything else till summer!!!

Gotta go. Just wanted to let you know I was still around.

Wishing all a great week,Happy Thanksgiving, fun time - whichever one, two or three suits you the best!

Weighed myself this morning and I have neither gained nor lost, so the walking, swimming, combined with not eating for about 36 hours all told were enough. And the 3 yr old had a wonderful time. We'll do it again some time I think. The only trouble will be getting myself back into writing mode.

Made the 50k just before going away for a short break with daughter and family - and just as well. Had a great time in spite of coming down with tummy bug on the last morning. Maybe not eating for 24 hours will make up for what I did eat whilst away!

Just failed to make 25k words today, as the exhaust came loose on our shopping trip yesterday and we had to take the car to the garage to have it fixed. Then this evening was the creative writing group meeting, Still made over my target, though. Actual total is 24,647.

Anna, do you ever get blood sugar problems? For example, if you miss a meal, or eat something very sugary, do you start to feel queasy or faint?. If so you might do better eating some protein for breakfast rather than just cereal.

Think not. Do.

Sorry I haven't been around much. Way too busy and finally I think my toe is good enough to go back to the treadmill instead of recumbant bike - that took way too long to heal. I'm all healed from the early summer gallbladder surgery but have to still watch my acid reflux. This is really a bad time of year and all that food being brought into work is just what I don't need for losing weight or keeping acid reflux at bay! Of course I splurge anyway. I usually take a calcium chew in the morning a while after taking the other vitamins (which I take right after eating). Lately been chewing on it just before I go out the door. Notice that I'm feeling just a tad nauseated after having it. Wasn't a problem the last few months but maybe a few things I've been eating aren't helping. It's in the morning though and usually just have Cereal then. Well, will see how it goes. Now to be able to wear my regular shoes without my toe hurting!!!

Doreen have a nice time with your NaNo. Connie thanks for the heads-up on the books. Looking forward to "20". Who's in the other one? I think I need to do a couple miles right now! Been feeling bloated. Will have to do water till I can go out!

Happy Halloween!!!

Last day before NaNo. We're going to the gym this afternoon and will try to keep going when we can. Tomorrow we've been called in for grandparent duty, but I'm going to set up on the kitchen table and pretend I'm not there till I've done a respectable number of words. And if necessary I can always call on my daughter for brainstorming. You may not see a lot from me, unless it's to boast.

Think not. Do.

Hi! I just thought I would check in with you all and see how you are doing. Janet has two new books coming out soon: The Chase and Takedown Twenty. Thankfully I am on the library waiting list for both.

Johnny and I ran our first 5k a few weeks ago. We are also signed up for a two mile run at his work and the A Christmas Story 10k on December 7.

There were five of us at the meet - just a nice tableful, though the organizer hadn't realized it was the University's Open Day. We had a couple of hours' good chat. Everybody seems to be doing a different genre; on the other hand we all seem to like similar things. Like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. We've arranged to meet up once a week on Sundays, in Aberystwyth. And while I was there Richard managed to get enough of a costume for a 3 year old pirate who's been invited to a fancy dress party at short notice. Complete with inflatable parrot.

Think not. Do.

Going to Aberystwyth to meet up with another NaNo person this lunchtime. We may be the only two there, but it will be interesting. This time next week we'll be right into the writing, so wish me luck and forgive me if I don't check in so often. I've already got 40 unread e-mails and it's not even started yet.

It's a Regency Romance, with other stuff, because that's what I like reading. Set in 1816, The Year Without a Summer (because of a volcanic eruption in the Pacific). It's an idea I've been mulling over for years. The previous Earl raised a regiment locally from his servants and tenants and took them off to the Peninsular War, like the Pals' Bridages in WWI, and they all got killed, leaving the village to be run by women, children and old men. Now the new earl is on his way and he's faced with all the problems like failing harvests, no money, and strange people coming looking for him. And what to do about the widow.

Think not. Do.

Getting things in place for NaNoWriMo: collected an espresso machine we bought on e-Bay, and have ordered some cds of writing music. NaNo is free, but these other necessities add up!

Thanks for asking. They decided it was not my gall bladder, and the doctor has prescribed me something to reduce the amount of acid my stomach produces. I take it every other day, and that seems to be enought to keep it in check most of the time. Unfortunately they have also doubled my metformin because my blood sugar was out of control, when nothing else had changed in my life, and that sometimes makes me feel a bit queasy. Nothing I can't cope with though.

National Novel Writing Month. 30 days. 50,000 words. It's a Regency romance, of the traditional kind (no sex) set in 1816, the Year Without A Summer. I have a detailed outline, I've been thinking about it for years and finally after a bit of brainstorming and some research I have enough plot for a whole book. I'm now getting frustrated because I want to start writing it, but I can't because it would be cheating. Oh, and I think I'm going to do "reverse NaNo" where you start writing a larger number of words and gradually taper off as the month progresses. And your inspiration decreases, and the washing starts to pile up. Plus will probably be going for a short break with daughter and grandsons near the end of the month. Not as bad as people I have been talking with on line, a number of whom are expecting their own babies, or have just had them. That I really can't imagine.

My inboxes seem to be breeding - in particular the NaNoWriMo one. I hope that when November arrives and we actually start writing, things will calm down. Though I suspect the threads will then be full of wailing about writer's block.
