Totally fell off the wagon, up 6-7 pounds. So I failed this challenge but I will not let it define me. I do feel so much better after loosing ~40 lb this past year. And I want to feel even better. Mindful eating and exercise her I come....

Woo Hoo! This challenge is almost complete - just one more check-in to go!
So, over the last two weeks I have been experiencing the "holiday creep". As creeps go, however, this one's been rather tame: about +2.5 lbs. I clocked in at 178 this Monday. I'm back to more meal planning - including snacks and treats; more time here on SP (I do better when I log my meals as I go - at least 2x/day), and continued commitment to fitness & exercise!

Happy New Year!
Spark on!

I am so very proud of all of you for being in this challenge. There are those of us that haven't went very far on this challenge or have even went backwards instead of forward. Then there are the ones that have excelled in their run for the prize of good health.

Either way you were here.......

You may have been cheering on the other, being cheered on by the others, or just absorbing the feeling of the team and inhaling enough energy from the others to keep going day by day.....

Either way...... you were here!

Getting close to the end of the challenge, but I really haven't done much.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now.
200 plus lbs lost without surgery, crazy diets, or extreme exercise- so have hope!

TRYINGHARD ..... You are awesome! emoticon

Good Morning Team!

We took mom a Christmas Dinner last night and she was so very happy. She sure loves her pumpkin pie. emoticon I dropped off 4 slices Friday evening and when we showed up last night they were all gone. Now picture the fact that she weights about 117 pounds and is a very tiny little 93 year old mommy..... I just laughed and laughed when I asked,
"mom did you eat all the pie and she said I SURE DID!"

We showed up at our daughters house at 6am on Christmas morning to sing happy birthday to Jesus (their tradition every year before anyone opens anything), eat Christmas breakfast, and have a little grandchildren's hugs. I love watching them get excited over their gifts.
Today we head to the oldest daughters for their Christmas Celebration and the sweet 16 birthday of two of our grand daughters.... emoticon

Stay safe today my friends, more storms rolling through ahead of the winter weather gets here. emoticon

Will be weighing in again on Monday for the last time this year. We will be away from the 26th till the 29th and I will miss weighin. I might throw caution to the wind and break tradition with a weighin New years Day, just to start the New Year at an exact weight. ( can you tell I am a bit OCD? LOL )
One of my goals for 2016 is to weigh in and track more often and to visit with my teams more often. SOmetimes I just want to read about what everyone else is doing and when I read some posts, I think my days are so boring that I have nothing of interest to say. I've been told it is not for me to judge what each of you might find enjoyable or helpful. SO I will really try.
Am still doing wheat free and am down about 13lbs from last month. Very satisfied with the losses.

Have a safe and happy holidays and enjoy ringing in the New Year in whatever way you do. I am staying up till midnight this year as we will be having a guest here overnight that night. Wish me luck making it past midnight!!!

Not much to say today, recovering from a low and a fight with apendegitis- inflammation by the colon, very painful. Not to be confused with appendicitis. Lately I've been being very stupid and eating sugar on my cereal, which CAUSES CRAVINGS FOR SUGAR!!!! Being a health and wellness/ weight loss coach, I should know better, and I do! But, I still fall victim to the crazies like everyone else. Today was not my last bowl of sugar ridden cereal, it never is your last anything unless you're planning on dying. Let's ask ourselves how many LAST things we've had in preparation for a DIET. It never is the last... and the deprivation thing is the WORST feeling! So just say "No!" to lasts.

Say "Yes!" to lifestyle change! Changing little things one at a time and making them part of your life really does work. You have to make the changes no-brainers, not tough ones. Like, I will continue to eat cereal, I will just use stevia to sweeten it and not sugar. I'll eat fruit with it for a boost of healthy natural sugar to combat cravings and protein to make it last.

What can you do to solve your 1 issue?

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now.

Morning team !
Raining here but 60 degrees in IOWA in December is awesome... so walked outside 3 miles. Feeling good. Got a new pair of shoes. My old ones were shot. generally I get 3 months or less out of my shoes before they break down and hurt my feet. I got almost 6 months out of this last pair and that is 10K or more steps per day every day.

For you diabetics, I just read an article. Found it interesting. Something to ponder any way. www.lifelinescreening.com/Community/

Going to go and check Kmart. they are going out of business and there may be something I just can not live without...LOL. I have restrained my self so far. I swear they marked every thing up before they marked it down. Have a great day and remember... every day, every minute is a chance to start anew. Let's do this !!

yay.......I'm pleased!!! This week has been a struggle! I am an emotional eater, and this week I've been incredibly emotional! Not an excuse, it's a fact. Holidays are very difficult for me.

Welcome back to Spark Mimi. Welcome to any others I may have missed also.
Yes, Debbie, God IS good. Were you able to do 1.4 miles before ? Congrats !! I say !
Cat, great NSV avoiding the truffles !

OK, I hear "guilt" a lot in regards to choices made in life. My opinion is that we are all adults and we can "choose" our feelings and how we react to our feelings. I am choosing to not feel guilt as much as I used to. I figure I make my choice and then I can choose to make a different choice the next time around or make the same choice and slow down my healthy journey. I am usually aware at the time if I am binging, eating too many carbs, being lazy and not getting in enough heart pumping action, not getting enough water, etc.

I am trying so hard to avoid sugar like the plague now that I am diabetic because I do not want the bad effects uncontrolled diabetes has on the body. With all the holiday activities going on and working in health care where so many people "thank" us with food gifts, it is so hard. I go all day and do not indulge, I may have 1 bite, or I may be craving sugar so bad, I eat a whole box of atkins treats once I get home. I have not found my "sweet spot", my healthy head spot where I just know I am ok, but I counteract my choices the best I can. If I eat that box of treats, I go work out another 30-60 minutes, or I may bring 1 serving to work in my lunchbox so I can have a sweet treat along with everyone else. My head may be in a good place that day and I can say, I do not need this or that and I do not feel deprived.

Being an emotional eater, every day is different and some days are very challenging. Thing is, this is just my life. It is what it is and I refuse to feel guilt if I make a choice that I have deemed not as healthy. I acknowledge it and continue to do what I feel I can at the time to maintain my health. It is one step, one minute, or one day at a time. As long as I do not give up, I feel I am doing good.

Now I hope I did not come off preachy. I do not mean to. I am just expressing how I have changed things in my head to make my life flow better. It seems to be working so far with 130 lbs off and I feel better and that is very motivating to me to keep up these things that have helped me get here. Like Indygirl, it was not easy starting but it is easier to keep going. I am going to do my best to get to goal wt this year and I am so happy to have such great people pushing right along with me. ((hugs)) TC

Greetings Spark Friends!
Down a pound this week, and cautiously optimistic I may be busting through my plateau!
Showed great fortitude yesterday at work. Throughout December, families bring in little "thank yous" for the staff, almost always in the form of food.

Yesterday a basket of satsumas liberally peppered with Lindt ball truffles arrived. I had 3 satsumas and ZERO truffles! Yay!

Spark On!

Good Morning!

Bright, shiny, and chilly here in Texas....

I am down almost two pounds this week. I almost tripled my daily steps yesterday at the tune of 3800 and a little over 1.4 miles. I know that seems like such a small amount to many of you but believe me, I was in so much pain last night driving home that I was actually on the verge of tears but I do feel energized this morning.

It's going to be another busy day again today. A lot of steps, more driving and being with so many people that I hold dear to my heart ....

Be careful and know that your never alone in your walk!

God is good!

THERESA ..... You are so right! I don't know that it's habit yet but I do know that even though this is a difficult battle, even though I make mistakes and slip occasionally, I am still on the winning side of the slope if all I do is get myself worked off the glutens. Of course I have chosen to leave the glutens, salt, and sugar, out of my diet at one time so if I trip and skin my knee once or twice, then I am still able to get up and go emoticon

MIMI ..... Hey, late is better than never and if you haven't been here all along then your not late.... right? Come on girl, we got this! emoticon

MARY ..... Fantastic attitude! Welcome home! emoticon

2016-ONE-THING ..... HEY...... Yesterday it was my daughters Ginger Snap cookies and her milk. YES, I did indulge and yes, I felt guilty afterward, but being guilty is NOT the plan..... moving forward, learning from our mistakes, picking ourselves up, and getting back into the swing IS the plan.....

Spent the day yesterday cooking since I will be working Thursday Friday at work. Made a enchilada casserole with kale mushrooms and homemade sauce, chicken veggie soup, and eggplant beef lasagna. Lower but not "low" carb so will see if weight goes up this week. Craving sugar, English muffins or cinnamon rolls....LOL !! Avoiding it so far.

Debbie, WTG getting those healthy habits to "feel" like habit !

I will get my steps in today and am trying to motivate myself to get rid of junk. I get so emotionally attached to "stuff" which is not good or normal and I always want something after I get rid of it and can not remember if I got rid of it so spend hours looking for it...LOL ! Getting old.

All for now. Have a great day !

Hi Mimi! Welcome!

I don't think it's at all too late to join the 2016 'a pound a week' challenge! It looks likes the the 2016 challenge and the New Year's (2015) challenge are sharing the board - or morphing, one to the other!

In other news, I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving Holiday!
For my check-in: I met my holiday week goal: I'm still hangin' at 180.
No loss - AND more importantly: No gain!

And even *MORE* importantly - I got through a major holiday eating and socializing responsibly! I had sensible portions; I had dessert: and was satisfied with small, appropriate portions (Yay!!). I did not feel deprived or resentful or left out.

Major victories all 'round!
*Spark On!* emoticon

I woke this morning swollen.....

The first thing I noticed was my hand was asleep, my rings were to tight, and then I noticed my stomach and mid-section was extended... A LOT.

So after feeling sorry for myself and crying on the phone with my friend and diet coach, we talked things over and as suggested and discussed, I am off the glutens, salt, and sugars. To many of the foods I have consumed over the holidays were loaded with salt, sugar, and glutens and my body is really paying the price.

I have got to get a hand on the cravings and when I get away from those three evils, I lose the all consuming hungers that set me in a tail spin.

I thank the good Lord for sending me such an amazing coach and friend like INDYGIRL!

Well I gained 0.2 this week.

I know that sodium is one of the main issues. I have restarted back on the salt on my meals again and I know better....

Back off the salt and pouring on the water.

Big hug Beth emoticon

CETRIARHAPSODOS ..... Come on my friend, we can do this! emoticon

GINI ..... You are such a sweet encouragement to me and the other team mates. TY so very much! emoticon

I'm not doing the BEST on this challenge, but I am trying, that's the point. Keep trying, because you never know when that try is your home run! It isn't that I'm struggling with holiday eating, I'm struggling with pain and stress. They keep me from wanting to move and make me want to nibble. My usual stress busters aren't working any more. I need to research new ones. That takes time to figure out.

Life is happening now, not 10 pounds from now.
200 plus lbs lost without surgery, crazy diets, or extreme exercise- so have hope!

Gini, maintaining weight is ok. gives us practice when we reach maintenance (if you are not already there).

Cat, walking the dog after dinner... too cute. You, my girl, have some funny talent. Loved that !

I am blessed that I really have no food allergies or sensitivities. Maybe I would be thinner if I did...LOL ! I have to watch the carbs now d/t diabetes but really, I am restricting my self because I want to reach my goal weight this year if possible. I really do not know what that weight is but for now, I would love 150-160 after being 324. I feel that is do- able. I am quite pleased where I am right now even though it is still obese. I FEEL better but I am way too close to twoterville to get comfy so I will continue pushing. You all with me ?

All for now. TC

Hey Team!
Wow - Thanksgiving is SOON!
Another week hangin' out at 180.

I've added a "postprandial constitutional with the quadruped" to my day.
Or in less Fancy-Nancy lingo: I'm walkin' the dog after dinner :D

She's delighted! I'm pretty happy about it too!
Spark on!

I weighed in this morning and stayed the same. That is OKAY!!! with me. DH and I are going to a wheat free diet beginning on Wednesday. Tomorrow is our 43rd anniversary so not the day to start a new diet. Tomorrow is flattened chicken lemon and herb, mushroom, potatoes, and spinach with frozen yogurt dessert. Yummy. We can actually have all of those things on wheat free anyway.

Just a quick note. I am finally feeling like I am well enough to get back on the boards. I will find my starting weight and weigh in tomorrow to see how much damage I have done lately. It is nothing that can't be made better, whatever it is.

Initial post: end of August= If I lose 1-2 pounds per week, I will lose 17-34 pounds by 2016. That would make my weight between 196-213. Being in the 100's by NYE sounds freaking fantastic.

Cat, I would love to be in the 180's. Slowly pushing to get there. You know what to do... now just to do it. LOL ! Always harder.

Debbie, so happy to see you getting your head back in the healthier direction. You can do this !! It may be a slow road but it is a life long road so why not kick back and enjoy this healthy journey/ life. I am giving you a one way ticket to onederland. This is YOUR year ! You are worth it !!

I have been eating more calories but good foods this week. BG has been good but weight loss 0.2 # only. No binging, although I really considered it a few times. My BLC group is finishing up the last week of a challenge and my RV group just finished a challenge and I always mini panic when I am not in a challenge that helps me stay focused. I will have a 2 week lull before BLC restarts winter challenges and not sure how long for Rv group. I will stay accountable no matter what path I choose this next couple weeks. I am focusing on being grateful every day and that is helping me stay in charge of my inner brat that craves sugar & junk. I found this to be an awesome slide show so am sharing. www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/money-ti

Oh, au Plateau?
Greetings Spark Friends! Another week dancing around 180.

Could this be a plateau? Perhaps. I have also been not 100% faithful at recording ALL my food. I have been *picking* more lately. Some of that is seasonal/habitual: I do *tend* to feel myself more hungry in the winter. A good part of it is circumstantial and *Bad* habit: Oh - there are so many goodies around! And while I am doing well resisting MOST of the unnecessary high-cal low-nutrition goodies, I am nonetheless eating more. And having more *unplanned* eating.

Family/friends/co-workers have [insert goodie here]; I have grapes, or figs. Or sugar-free cookies. Or a handful of popcorn. Or a few campari tomatoes. Or..... In fairness and honesty, it's a good bet my actual daily intake is about +200 cal/day from my record the last couple weeks. Time now to re-commit to more *planned* eating, and more complete tracking!

Don't get me wrong - 180 is feeling pretty *Fabulous!* - I'm not complaining. If I could ride out Thanksgiving and the December holidays here I'd call that a roaring success! *AND* now is also a great time to add Core work and even get back to yoga!

Spark On!
-Cat :D

I am so sorry. I could not get the link to work so I did a search on youtube to find again. I hope this one works. it is a 7 minute mediation and I like what he says and he has a nice voice.

I went resale shopping yesterday to get some warm PJ's in a smaller size. The 3-4X were falling off me. They are so warm. Quiet day today since I will be working Monday & Tuesday and those days are always busy. We know for sure our 28 bed unit will get 12-16 new patients from surgery despite how many we already have.

Need to get off here and make some soup. later friends. TC

Oh Teresa...... What an amazing friend you are and I really needed that encouragement this morning. I am forever knocking myself down when I cheer others on. Strange habit that.
I will check the page out as soon as I can and ty for taking the time to help emoticon

I re-started my meal plan again this morning and believe it or not, one of the changes was that I added a salad into my morning meal emoticon

I just decided to think outside the box and start doing things the way I am suppose to instead of crying in my pillow every night about how unfair my life is compared to others. I want a change and ( I ) am the only person that can make that happen! emoticon

Have an amazing Sunday today my friends! God Bless.......

Debbie, hun, you are NOT a mess. Remember God does not make junk. We are perfect in his eyes but not always in our own eyes. I have a daily meditation from youtube that I found to be helpful when I felt discouraged and down with my progress and slowly I have turned my mind around to a healthier state (most of the time). It really helped me focus on ME and why this is important to ME.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDgF
IFpAswQ&am
p;feature=related

I also went to myvirtualmodel.com and made a model in my ideal image/ ideal weight with my face and I carried that around in my pocket and I made it a point to pull it out and look at it before I started eating. On the back were my reasons why this life change was important to me.

Again, this helped me because my mind was not in the right lane for health at that time. I was 324 # and I just knew I was miserable and no longer wanted to be. I recorded this on my phone and listened to it every AM driving to work. I had to work hard to convince myself but I found as I changed my habits, my habits and stinking thinking changed to support those habits and the weight started coming off. It is a slow road but that is ok because I now know I have to do this the rest of my life. The last time I lost weight, I thought it would just stay off. LOL.... WRONGO BUCKO ! Lesson learned and no more guilt.

Keep pushing GF. We know you can do it. Find that reason that is just for YOU !

Good Morning Team,

Wet cool morning here in Texas and I am loving it! I always seem to get my second wind in cool weather. My joints do not like the dampness but I chose to live here so I take what I get.... emoticon Besides, God answers prayers and I was asking for the beautiful healing rains to help out the drought we have been dealing with emoticon emoticon

Theresa ..... I have tried the smaller plate method but I seem to just pile the food higher instead of less. I always eat slowly due to bad teeth, and I seem to eat WHENEVER.... Lets face it, I'm a mess! emoticon

On a good note, I am down two pounds and just about back to my starting weight in October. I will keep on keeping on my friends

Debbie, sounds like a good plan. Try using small plates & eat slow. I find that works for me unless I am angry, bored, lonely, distracted, etc. I am still following Atkins induction phase as close as I can. I have had 24 carbs today which I think is good, considering I ate when I was hungry and did not plan any meals today.

I walked my hour and did 20 minutes ST. I feel good today. We are going to have low 30's tonight. I think winter Is trying to visit. LOL ! It was a beautiful day though cool 50's today. Great for walking the dogs.

NSV, I fit into a large today and was comfortable. All for now. Have a great weekend. TC

Theresa ..... What a fantastic outlook for the holiday's, and you are right we should make our plans for what we plan to do when the goodies come along.
I try to plan in advance and prepare the things I know will be cooked and to make them the way I need them made. I make my own mashed potatoes with my own ingredients, my own green beans, corn with pinto's, and my low calorie frozen desert.

Then the plan is to keep my portion controls low. Now THAT is my trouble! emoticon

Cat, awesome loss for the month ! I have to keep reminding myself if I do not lose, that it is ok as long as I am doing everything right like eating my veggies & fruits, avoiding binges, working my wonderfully efficient body, drinking my water, and posting. If all that is good, I am confident I will stay healthy.

Debbie, happy for you getting rain and better wifi ! whoo hoo !

I realize I am new here and do not know you all but I always pray for the best for everyone that walks into my life. God does not make junk ! We are made in his image and we deserve to be happy & healthy. The holidays are coming. Do we have a plan ? Do we plan to be weak and gain weight.... again ??? I do not ! I will not ! I am stronger than my inner child that wants the sweets.

Come on ladies, post what will help you through the holidays when that certain someone gets under your skin, or when that food smells soooo good but you have already eaten, or when you run out of time and can not do a full workout, that loving persons says "one bite won't hurt you", etc.

Let's do this !! TC

STEADY AS SHE GOES!

Happy November, everyone, and congratulations to all of us for running the Halloween Gauntlet! I told my daughter she has to keep her candy Outta.Sight, and we're presently working out a buy-back agreement. On the current six-year-old exchange market, Calico Critters have more 'street value' than chocolate... or maybe a trip to Monkey Joe's.

Anywho - a respectable .5 drop this week. I'm *ecstatic*! Not made much progress on the exercise goals yet; still letting life's ups & downs get in the way. Time management is a difficult skill!
