I have had a really rough week. I've been dealing with a sinus infection, which means no exercise for me. When I'm sick and can't exercise, I just lose it! It's actually the only time that I crave meat for some reason...? Anyway, I'm determined to make today better! I'm feeling better physically, so it's time to get my eating in check.

Did some antsy eating today. My goodness, the urges were strong. Most of it was home cooked food. I'm skipping some foods this month as an experiment and doing even more for a few days as recommended for a retreat this weekend, it's complicating my meal prep. I'm eating foods I do like, but it's harder to make a meal I can really look forward to and hold out for, and that has been an incentive for a long time to stay clear of my dragons. Oh, well. Some people would cut off their right arm to have the food that I take for granted.

My husband has back surgery scheduled in 2 weeks; best way I can think of to plan to lessen stress on myself is to plan, plan, plan. Am talking with him and visualizing what things must be done- I need to prepare to sleep in his hospital room and eat in the cafeteria, and move around during the day to stay at least minimally active without leaving him too long.

One small case of unplanned eating, but basically a good day Talked myself out of looking for discount Valentine's Candy or for getting takeout from Souplantation. That wouldn't have been a problem for my general plan, but I'm trying to get rid of the habit of "scanning" for food whenever I'm out for other reasons. I had and have plenty of food at home, though I will have to get green veggies soon.

@JENNAAW it's ok to have 'selfish' days. We should all have and enjoy them without guilt.


I just finished steaming broccoli and cauliflower. Made a nice homemade tofu sauce to put on my veggies with rice and enjoying every bit of it with a smoothie of greens, mango, berries and banana. Enjoying every bite and sip. Wishing all a wonderful day and me time too..

Been away for a while trying to get myself back on track. Had a couple of good days and hope it continues. Happy and grateful when I wake up in the morning and realize I hadn't binged or overeaten the day before. Putting some extra effort in today to stay on plan. I can do it.

Did a fair amount of unplanned eating yesterday and today. Though I did get some bad news, I cannot link it to that. Found out that my yearly car insurance bill is going to $4,000 a year, up from $750 annually two years ago. Yes, I did have two accidents in the past couple of years. No injuries. All cars drivable. Those rates can last three years, so it seems to me that I am actually paying for all the damages, just spread out. This was not an expense I was expecting to have in my retirement. But I did have the accidents; I did not expect to get off Scott free. I just thought the costs got spread out more. Most of my nearly 50 years of driving have been accident free. Oh, well. On the way home from a friends house, tonight I saw a car completely flipped over onto the freeway barricade. I wouldn’t be surprised if that person went away in an ambulance, so I’m thanking my lucky stars.

6 days out of 9 snack free - am beginning to realise how helpful typing/writing about it is - it is helping me pin point things and see new things. Progress is being made. I think I am going to be spending more time getting alone and quiet and with my journal so I can write everything down that I am realising about my emotions and habits and eating and so I can decide on plans of action. Still working with James Clear's "Atomic Habits" book - very helpful.

Struggling with motivation. Stress is really high and overeating at dinner is the only thing that "makes me feel better." I know it's not really working, but my brain thinks otherwise.

Been doing too much grazing. Will stick to decaf au lait or even lighter beverages between meals instead. Been getting bad (but not terrible) financial news. The insecurity fears can be ignited so easily. Eating is such temporary help and just reinforces the habit. I must remind myself that I can have plenty of delicious food at my meals. My body is made to draw on its reserves when needed. If I want it to use its stores, I have to give it a reason.
