I have wondered about calories burned on my wii fit plus. I guess the best indicator of calories burned might have to be pounds lost, 3,500 calories burned to equal one pound lost.

Marigold--I totally agree! I did the 28 day challenge for awhile here on SparkPeople and did the 10 minute YouTube videos a lot throughout that challenge. It blew my mind that I would work my butt off at the gym, pouring sweat for 45 minutes and at the end burned about 250 cals. (And this is with the treadmill at an incline giving it my ALL...for 45 minutes!!) And then I would do only 10 minutes of these videos, hardly break a sweat, and according to the fitness tracker burned a quick 130 cals? I also use the Wii like you do, feel like I'm doing a great job, and then burn a minimal amount of calories by doing a variety of the Wii Fit activities in a half hour. Doesn't seem to even out...

I do like the videos, don't get me wrong. I feel proud and strong when I am done with them. But I really have to question the accuracy of the calories burned for these quick videos.

I have loved the wii workouts. They get me going in the morning. I keep reading that strength training raises your metabolism higher, and for about 2 hours more after the workout than cardio. So I have been trying to do more of that, even though I don't sweat as much. Sweat, you are losing water. If your metabolism is raised, you are burning more fat.

I like the wii workouts as well ... I tried the fitness coach but wasn't nearly as impressed as I am with wii active workouts. The kids even join in sometimes lol

I wouldn't be too concerned about how many calories were burned on a particular workout because it will vary. The main concern is "Are you losing weight". Are you noticing your clothes feeling loose? I've never been concerned about how many calories I burned because there were days that I did the workout but felt I didn't give my full all so the calories weren't burned off as much. As long as you are losing weight, you are doing great. emoticon Just keep working out.

Magicmarigold I was wondering the same thing. I did the 10 min boot camp cardio and 10 min kickboxing one and the amount of calories it said I burned seemed really high. Strange.

Well, I have made it through Week 1 and onto Week 2. emoticon

Definitely is working to have made a written committment and established some goals.

I have to admit, I worry a lot less about how many calories programs tell me I'm burning, and a lot more about whether I moved at all and whether I ate right.

Most North Americans (me especially lol) are so out of shape and eat so badly that just those two simple things (moving, and eating right) make a vast difference and pounds start to melt off.

I lost almost 20 lbs by cutting out soda (even diet, except as a treat once a week or so), high fructose corn syrup (hard but worth it), and anything "white" (bread, pasta, etc). I pretty much haven't changed anything else, and I still use butter in cooking sometimes (though not the gobs I used to). Little things do a lot when we start out.

Hang in there. You're succeeding!

Hello

Well I'm trying to do at least 10 minutes cardio everyday to start with and I'm using a combination of the videos on here, wii fitness coach and my step machine.

I added the sparkvideo into my fitness tracker and it says I burned 130 calories (or there abouts, I cant remember exactly) which I thought was great.

However, I did 15 minutes on my wii which was basically aerobics, was really out of breath, got to the end and it said I only burned 59 calories sob sob

So I was wondering if anyone had found that the sparkvideos over estimate the amount of calories burned each time?

I'm really trying to lose weight this time (been on here on and off for 5 years and I'm the heaviest I've ever been!)

Thanks

Heaviest non pregnant weight = 171 pounds

first goal is back to 145 pounds.

ultimate goal is 135!
